      Hi! To publish as a hidden draft yes, you would click on Publish after checking the option to hide in store. However, since recording this I've found that you can copy the SKU numbers right off the Printify draft without publishing the listing from Printify at all. As long as you have it saved as a draft in your Printify account, all you need is the SKU number that you can get by expanding the variants section in the draft listing and copying the SKUs from there. I hope that helps!

      Hi! If you have the drafts still on Etsy, yes you can delete those. But you need to keep the Printify drafts so that the SKU numbers will be matched up when an order comes in - as long as they are there in Printify, you can delete the Etsy drafts. I hope that helps! I also discovered since making this video that you can actually double-click on the SKU number in Printify even if it looks like part of it is hidden and copy it, and it will copy the whole thing. So you actually don't even need to publish your products to Etsy, you can just save them as drafts in Printify and copy the SKUs from there if you want to skip that step.

    Awesome video! Thanks! I started to set this up and a couple of the vairants are out of stock through my printify supplier. Normally I would just select the product visibility option to show out of stock items as "sold out". How do I manage out of stock items with this set up so people arent making a bunch of orders that can't be fulfilled?

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  2 года назад

      Hi! With Printify, the option to show out of stock variants as "sold out" only impacts the visibility of the variants at the time you publish the listing to your Etsy account. There is no ongoing/subsequent update to the stock status unless you re-publish the listing from Printify. So even if you use that option, you will still have to manually go back into your Etsy listing when the variants are back in stock and update them to show as being available, or republish the stock status from Printify. With a combination listing, if you only have one print provider for a product (or if all providers are out of stock of that variant), then you will need to go into the listing and edit the variant so it cannot be purchased. You can either drop the quantity to 0 which will show it as "sold out" or you can use the orange toggle button to turn it off, which will hide that variant in the listing. When back in stock, you will need to update the listing again. I personally don't update the stock status of apparel variants unless all print providers are out of stock - I move fulfillment for individual orders to a different provider if my normal provider is out of stock, this way I don't have to edit my listings all the time. But occasionally there is an extended issue with a product and I do update the listing to remove the variant(s) until they are available again. I hope that helps!

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  2 года назад

      Hi! To do that, you would need to create a draft in your Printify account for each design that you want to offer. Each one will have its own SKU numbers that you can then copy/paste into the listing to match the variants for the design choices. That's a great idea!

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  2 года назад +3

      Thanks! To have a reusable template, you create a blank listing from scratch in your Etsy shop with all the product variants and basic product descriptions, pricing, etc. and save it as a draft. Then when you want to create a listing, use the "copy" option from the draft and it'll create a new one for you to publish every time, while keeping your template as a draft. I hope that helps! I can always add a short video showing that process if it would help.

    This was a very helpful video. Question-I like the Out-of-Stock method, so it will help let the customer know that color for a certain size is out of stock. Is there a way to do a multiple listing, copy/paste sku's and it show out of stock on Esty? Just trying to figure a way to save time in the 4th Q, when hopefully more orders are coming in, but I know on the Printify side, risking out of stock color variants. On the fence about listing multiple items in a listing, because of this.

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  2 года назад +1

      Hi! You can use the "disable" option within your listing variants on Etsy to not show any out of stock variants after creating the variants and pasting-in all the SKUs. You cannot, however, use Printify's re-publish functionality to update the stock status for a combination listing. It's important to point out that Printify does not do this automatically for you on any listings - if you publish with the "in stock" option, it will not automatically update the stock status when that changes in the future. You have to manually re-publish the listing in order to update the stock status, so it does not help you catch something that is out of stock before an order comes in. That's why I personally don't use that option, because I still would have to re-publish every time there is a stock update and I find it easier to just toggle variants on/off in the Etsy listing. When I get an order for an item that is out of stock with my primary print provider, I edit the order to have that item fulfilled by another provider. If it's one item in an order for several items that can be annoying, but it still gets the order fulfilled. I hope that helps!

      @@carolelliott3336 Sure thing! It can be confusing because if you've used Printful before, it works differently. The Printful integration with your Etsy account keeps your listings more "in sync" with Printful and they can update stock status automatically. But Printify is like a snapshot in time from when you publish the listing, so it won't update until you re-publish.

    Great video. I am new to POD. Can you give an example of why you would make a combo listing? I'm trying to understand if a combo listing is an advanced technique that everyone should consider or if you are just saying that it is an available option. Thanks

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  2 года назад

      Great question, in my opinion it's definitely something everyone should be aware of, but I don't personally do it with all my listings. I think it's a good idea to do a combo listing if you are creating a set of designs intended to go together, like a set of family Halloween t-shirts or something where there's one for parents and others for kids/baby. I think if you're doing something like that, putting them in one listing increases your chances of making the sale because you're making it easier for the customer. If each one is separate, they have to bounce around to different listings (even if you link to them) and that gives them more time to change their mind. However for a straightforward design on a unisex t-shirt, I don't automatically create a combo listing with sweatshirt, hoodie, etc. This method also works great for doing a couple different mug options in a single listing and it's faster for items like that compared to apparel because it's way fewer variants. I hope that helps!

      Hi! I go up to 3XL and do get some sales of that size, but 3XL seems to have a little less consistent availability outside of the core colors (white/black/navy/heather grey) in my experience, meaning other colors might go out of stock more frequently. So there can be a little more maintenance there, but it does make some sales.

      Hi! If you receive an order for an out of stock variant, you can change the print provider for that order to someone who has it in stock. If something is going to be out of stock for an extended period of time, you can disable that variant in the listing after creating it until it's available again. It depends on the item but with apparel there is usually another print provider that has the variant available to fulfill the order.

The graphic is printed the same size on larger sizes, but is scaled down for smaller sizes. There are a few providers that don't scale down on smaller sizes and they are listed on the page. I use Monster and Swift POD for t-shirts so I don't apply my designs in the maximum size/width since they won't be scaled down on smaller sizes. Hi! Using this method, for each new listing you create the drafts with the new design in Printify, then copy your listing template in Etsy and enter all the product SKUs, mockups, description, tags, etc. The template listing itself should just stay as a draft on Etsy so that you can copy it each time.

    Hi, great video thank you. Could you use this approach to create listings for the same product, eg a tshirt, (maybe in just one color to keep things simple) but where there are multiple design options? For example, if you had designs that said “most likely to_______” where the blank said something different each time. Would you make each shirt for each of the different options and save them as drafts then ‘tie’ them to your group Etsy listing with the sku numbers? The only way I’ve seen of doing this with printify is by using personalised orders where you give the customer a listing pic with codes/numbers to tell them which one to type in the personalisation box, eg. 1 is for “most likely to drink all the wine”, 2 is for “most likely to drink all the beer” and so on. I know this would be a lot of work to set up but if the listing sold well it would save you having to complete each draft order.

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  2 года назад +1

      Hi! Yes you can definitely use a combination listing to do multiple design options for the same product. First you would create your drafts in Printify of each design on the same product. Then for your product variants in the Etsy listing, you would combine the design option with one of the other variants, I think color would probably be the easiest. So create the size variant first, and then create a second variant by using the custom option and do variants like "Black - Design 1", "Black - Design 2", etc. You will get all the size and color/design combinations as separate variants. Then copy/paste the SKUs from each Printify draft into the corresponding combination of size/color/design. I agree this would take a little time to set up but then your orders sync automatically and no confusing instructions for the customer, they just pick from the size and color/design drop-downs in the listing and they're good to go. Great question!

      @@PODinsights Thank you so much 🙏 I’m going to try that today with a design that has only 7 variants. I’ve been using printful up til now but after watching your videos about combo listings and templates etc I’m definitely going to try printify because it seems so much quicker. I did set up a combo listing in printful after watching your video on that and, although it was pretty easy to sync everything, you couldn’t ‘reuse’ any of the work either by duplicating on the printful side or copying on Etsy. So it was a lot of work for one combo listing. Anyway, thank you again, and I’d like to offer a tip for people who decide to keep listings with the same design separate rather than in a combo - create a design code (eg, a 4 digit number) and enter it at the end of the title of every listing that uses that design, then enter that code in the search box on your shop, hit enter, and copy the entire web address of the search result and paste this into each listing for that design (or into a template as a ‘blank’). That way you can say something like “To see more products with this design click here >> “ followed by a space and the search link. When you do a new design you can simply replace the code number in the link with the code number of the new design. I got this tip from an Etsy seller who created matching wedding stationery digital products.
      One more question, is there any reason why you couldn’t publish the separate listings as well as link to them in a combo listing? For example if you were doing matching family shirts you could list the kids shirts in the kids category, etc and use more keywords.

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  2 года назад +1

      @@miccy6702 Thanks for sharing that tip about adding a number in the title to make a linkable search term! And you definitely can still publish the items separately if you want the same products to take up more "real estate" on Etsy. I know some sellers will even duplicate their listings just to have another one with a different primary thumbnail image. I personally don't do that automatically every time because each one costs you another listing fee, but if something starts to sell a little bit sometimes I do publish the items separately to get more exposure for them. Thank you!

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  2 года назад

      Hi! Great question, unfortunately there is not a way to do this that I know of where you don't have to manually edit the order on Printify, at least on Etsy. You definitely can create a listing on Etsy where a bundle/pack is a separate product variant so the customer can buy multiple items packaged together, but there's no way to "tell" Printify that one product variant is actually several separate products. I'm hoping at some point in the future our print on demand platforms will have a feature like this where you can pre-build a bundle as a single variant to automate it. That's something I usually suggest whenever I get the chance to give feedback or take a survey. I do believe you can do this if you sell through a Shopify store because there are other 3rd party apps you can add to create bundle listings that automate on the back end, but sadly it's not available for Etsy currently.

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  2 года назад +1

      Hi! As long as the products come through in the same order, Printful does some unique shipping calculations that can be a little hard to predict (though it's in our favor so I shouldn't complain) and I've seen a couple different scenarios on orders. If the products are the same, say both Gildan 5000 t-shirts, then you will get the "additional item" shipping rate for the second item. If the products are different but they're still in the same shipping category, you still get the "additional item" shipping rate - for example that would be like a Gildan 5000 t-shirt and a Bella+Canvas t-shirt in the same order. If your order has different product types in it, you would think that you'd pay the "first item" price for each, but that's not always the case. Printful seems to do some type of calculation based on whether they can package the products together (I'm just guessing). For example, I created a test order for a t-shirt (shipping price $3.99) and a hoodie (shipping price $7.99). That should cost $11.98 for shipping because they're in different product categories. But the shipping charge on the order was only $9.99. Printify absolutely will charge you the full price in that scenario - but it seems Printful is giving you a better rate when they can. As long as you built the "first item" price into your product prices or charged that rate, then you get a little extra profit on occasion.

      Yes, you can do that! In fact, I made a more recent video showing how to do just that with mugs. I actually do it that way when there are fewer product variants involved. The only thing to be aware of if you're doing it that way with an apparel listing with lots of variants is that when you edit your variants, Etsy will wipe out the variant details that were there - meaning the SKUs, price and quantity might disappear on you, so you'll have to copy/paste all of them anyway. But there's nothing wrong with doing it that way if it works better for you!

      Correct, you would create each product draft in Printify first with the different designs, and then copy the SKUs for each of them into the Etsy listing so they are all available in the same listing. To create the variants for them, you can add the design name into one of the existing variants like the color. For example, instead of one "Black" color, you would create 3 of them, one for each design option: Black - Design 1, Black - Design 2, Black - Design 3. If you do that for each color, you'll have an option for each color/design and size.

When you add two variant categories (size & color) and check the box "SKU varies" for both of them, then the Etsy listing will have a SKU number field for every separate variation of size & color, which is what you need for orders to sync to your Printify account. I actually use Monster Digital for most of my t-shirts, sweatshirts, and hoodies now so in a combo listing with those products it will be the same provider. But if I do use different providers, I just use the zip code for the provider that is most centrally located in the US. Etsy uses the origin zip along with the shipping method and the customer's location to estimate the delivery date. If the origin zip is located roughly in the central US, then if the real origin zip is more East or West it won't add a significant number of days to the delivery time, and in my experience it doesn't seem to have much impact on customer service. I've changed print providers for products at various times and haven't bothered to update the origin zip code on some of my shipping profiles, and customers have not noticed or asked questions about where the shipment came from. Thanks for the video! I was wondering how you sort out the shipping fee in that combo listing for those customers that might order 4 different items for instance? I asked Printify and they will treat each item independently as they are separate items and the provider will be shipped separately even though the same customer buys multiple items. Does it make sense? I saw many videos on how to make combo listings but I didn't find what happens when someone actually purchases items from those listings.

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  2 года назад

      Hi! It does depend on whether the items purchased are the same type of product or different products from the Printify catalog. For example, if the customer buys two different size/color t-shirts from the listing, it works the same as a regular listing and you will get the shipping price on Printify of the first/second item where you pay a reduced amount for the second item. But if the customer were to buy a t-shirt and hoodie, even from the same print provider, you will pay the full shipping cost for both items. Because of this, this strategy of combination listings for apparel works best if you offer free shipping and build the cost of shipping into the item prices. This way you're guaranteed to be collecting enough to cover the shipping cost for any combination of items that the customer purchases. Because you can only assign one shipping profile to each listing, charging a shipping fee on a combination listing means you will have to set your shipping rates carefully and probably will have to set your additional item charge differently than a regular listing. Having a combination listing also may increase the chance that your customers spend $35 or more in one purchase if they decide to get multiple items from the listing, so if you're opted into the Etsy Free Shipping Guarantee then they will get free shipping anyway, which is another reason doing free shipping to start with is less complicated. I hope that helps!

You will need to make sure the prices work out for all included products (unless you do free shipping) and for the origin zip code on these I just use the one that is the most centrally located in the US out of the providers that I use, unless it's the same print provider for all products in the listing. You can also just create a new shipping profile from scratch on Etsy if you find that easier - the only difference is that the one from Printify will have the fields already populated, but if you're going to have to adjust most of them anyway it may not save that much time. Once you have it created, you can reuse the same profile on all combo listings that have the same products. I hope that helps!

Printify does not have a continuous 2-way sync with your Etsy account like Printful does, so once you publish the listing you either have to re-publish to update stock status or just go into the Etsy listing and manually enable those variants. So i use one not hidden listing , add the other variations and I add the SKUs from the hidden matching product on printify. Does this make sense? Or is this totally wrong ? I don't understand when you get the SKUs from etsy. I am sorry for my english and i hope you unverstanden what I mean.

      You are correct! To get the SKU numbers for all products, you only need to create them as a draft, and then copy the SKUs into the one Etsy listing that you are going to publish.

    This was an outstanding video! Thank you so much. I'm new to your channel. I'm wondering what your thoughts are on not matching sku's or even creating that particular product in Printify until we get a sale. OR just doing the adult t-shirt in Printify and putting in those sku's and then when something else sells backtracking it? I ask because obviously many designs and /or products in the listing may not sell. Thoughts?

      Great question! There is a "back end" sync that you can do in Printify, where you go to the "other orders" tab after an order is placed, match the product to a variant in your Printify account, and then import the order. When you do that, there is an option to "always import" orders with that SKU and variant, thus establishing the automation. Instead of putting in all the work up-front, you're putting in the work when orders come in for each new variant. You could certainly do a kind of compromise where you publish the listing with the adult unisex variants with SKUs and leave the other variants blank and wait for orders to come in to set up the automation. The only catch is that you have to remember to look for the orders on your "other orders" tab and import them. I don't trust myself to remember LOL but if it works for you, go for it!

    Where do you find the SKU numbers? I must be missing something. If we saved the sample hidden in store, how can I see it on the second window in etsy?

      Hi! After publishing to Etsy with the "hide in store" option, you can find it in your Etsy account under the Draft listings. If you go into your listing view, look on the right side of that screen and you should see radio buttons for "listing status". Select "Draft" and you should find the un-published listing so you can find the SKU numbers. I hope that helps!

    Can u delete your drafts on Etsy after your grab the SKU from those ?

      Hi! Yes you can, as long as you keep the drafts in your Printify account. In fact, I recently discovered there is a better view in Printify to copy the SKUs directly rather than publishing them as drafts to Etsy - you just need to resize your browser window with your Printify product listing and it will give you a nice clean view of the SKUs. I made a short video to show that: ruclips.net/user/shortsckwgE4m9vx0?feature=share

      @@PODinsights I noticed that today. The only problem I see is that it will show ln printify as unpublished and might risk deleting because if I see something has been published or hidden I don’t delete at all.

    What do you do about shipping since a tshirt may have a shipping cost of around $5 and a Sweater of around $8?

    • @PODinsights

      Hi! You essentially have 3 options for shipping with combination listings:
      1. Free shipping - easiest for you in terms of setting up the shipping profile. You build the cost of shipping into the prices of each item, so no matter what product the customer purchases you are collecting the correct amount. This can, however, push up your prices to the point of looking less competitive. But one upside is that Etsy always shows the lowest priced item in search results so customers will already be in your listing before they see prices for the more expensive products like hoodies.
      2. Charge the highest amount and adjust prices - Set your shipping charge to $8 to cover shipping for the sweatshirts/hoodies. Then reduce the price of your t-shirts by $3 because it only costs $5 to ship the t-shirts.
      3. Balance the shipping & product prices - this is like #2 but instead of charging $8, you charge a more "reasonable" average price for shipping, say $6. Then you subtract $1 from your t-shirt prices, and add $2 to your sweatshirt prices to balance out their costs with the shipping price. Same result as #2 but the product & shipping prices might appear a little more reasonable.
      I hope that helps!

    I had to rewatch the video because I’m a little confused on how you list the shipping. If two items have two different shipping costs, what do you make your shipping profile for that listing?

    • @PODinsights

      The best items to combine into the same listing are ones that you either already were planning on doing free shipping for, or that have at least somewhat close shipping costs because you can only have one shipping profile assigned. If you have multiple products combined into one listing that have significant differences in the shipping cost, the safest thing to do is use the shipping profile for the highest cost products. For example if you charge $4 for shipping t-shirts and $7 for shipping hoodies/sweatshirts, use the hoodie/sweatshirt shipping profile. If that makes the shipping charge for the lower-cost items in the listing seem too high, you can always raise the list price of the products a little bit and then back down the shipping charge to prevent abandoned carts (ex: reduce shipping charge by $2 and raise item prices by $2). But ultimately, products that have vastly different shipping costs won't fit well together in the same listing (extreme example: t-shirts and framed posters). Personally, I do free shipping on all apparel items so the cost of shipping for each product is already baked into the price - that sometimes makes the price look less competitive but it sure saves a headache in these situations. I hope that helps!
