"If I want an echo I just play the same thing twice, but the second time slightly quieter". Hahaha these guys are all great but Justin really has the Nigel Tufnell jokes down to perfection!
Yeah. He even did the "just that extra little push over the cliff" just like Sir Nigel Nufnell. All three interviews are tres hilaire but Justin's is awesome. Pisstaking feckers lol.
Not gonna lie, I am not a big fan of the Darkness. However, I am definitely a fan of their self-deprecating attitude and I love Justin's Rides Again posts. Always informed and humorous. My best wishes to them all.
Best Rig Rundown - hands down. The Darkness could have their own TV show! Hilarious, humble, self-deprecating. More guitarists should take note. Have some fun!
When these guys first came out with "Thing Called Love" and the stage outfits, everyone accused them of taking the piss, but those guys never actually listened to the rest of the album. Then, you get guys like Brian May putting their name behind them.... These guys legit rock
For being a drummer and a bassist, Dan Hawkins is one hell of a guitarist.....I've always loved watching Dan when I've seen The Darkness play live. Justin and Frankie obviously stand out on stage, but Dan plays like a beast, dare I say he is the.....Heart of Darkness......?
I saw them once by pure chance and this man and his brother went bananas on stage, begin to end. Right then I became a fan of the Hawkins brothers, there has to be something in that gene pool.
Some people: The laquer of the instrument tremendously influences the sound. Frankie: Each time the neck breaks off it doesn't really affect anything once it's glued back together.
Justins youtube chanel is what made me want to give them an actual chance. I remember when 'thing called love' had come out i was super into just heavy music and couldnt be bothered with anything else... but dudes personality on his videos made me love them and now im glad i did give em a chance.
This interview was heating up gradually I must say. Dan was quite relaxed and mostly serious. Frankie increased a degree of awkwardness and fun, but kept it tight. And then, there's Justin who totally had me in stitches. Your interviewer was quite out of balance because of his humor and behavior. One of the most hilarious Rig Rundowns out there.
This is really refreshing in a world of "hi i'm generic man in his 20s, let me show you my kemper" and "let me show you my fender reverb deluxe vibratron twin jr" rig rundowns
As someone who has lived in Suffolk for the best part of 10 years, these guys are weird even for Lowestoft. In a good way obviously, but this whole video feels a bit like a dry, British version of Trailer Park Boys
Usually I ffwd through the bass. I'm so happy I didn't. You don't know if Frankie is bored or is he a tortured artist who finds fault with all of his equipment. You get the feeling he could quit the interview or the band at any second. Great rundown by all of them!
I've watched this one several times and each time Justin has me laughing out loud. I never listened to these guys much before, but for some damn reason they've won me over. Very entertaining.
agreed! I didn’t even know the band when I saw it but now I’ve seen them live twice and they’re one of my favourite. The guns n roses rundown with Richard fortus segment was great as well
What's with all the smoke? am I seeing things? awesome video btw. saw these guys in Vegas at house of blues a few years back. THESE GUYS ARE AMAZING LIVE!!! great show!!!
I have such a love and respect for these guys, absolute gentlemen. incredibly talented and knowledgeable musicians and engineers. love the band since the day they hit the scene. they introduced me to les pauls and Marshall and I love everything about them. love the tone and also Justin's rat box fx pedal usage is iconic sounding and I love them.
I thought he said the band was called "the Piss Takes" and it was just the accent that made it sound different. Piss Takes is a way better name that the Poo Sticks IMO.
@@reginaldperiwinkle Poohsticks is a British game whereby each player drops a stick on the upstream side of a bridge and the one whose stick first appears on the downstream side is the winner. Its from Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A. Milne. The band are from Swansea and are actually called 'The Pooh Sticks' so i'm guessing they were going for the double entendre between the game and poo sticks.
I just watched just again 4 years later and it still makes me hysterically laughing with Justin. "If I want a delay...I play it again...a millisecond later..." It seems he's been 28 a really long time....God did bless him with youth..oh and the face ripping speed of his fingers.
Isn't Justin just fuckin awesome. It's not until you see them live you really get it. He's an awesome musician & entertainer. He's like part Evh part Dlr. and all awesome 🤘
Best rig rundown I have seen. Justin totally Tufnell'd it, but if you watch his channel, he is like that pretty much most of the time. True though. All you need is a face flaying amp, and an A and B guitar. The rest is in the fingers. Quality!!
So many of my favorite guitarists started out as drummers and so many of my favorite drummers started out as guitarists. I guess they end up making more well rounded musicians who attack from a full band perspective.
"Every Les Paul sounds totally different, apart from those 2, they sound exactly the same" Nigel would be proud!
"listen to the tone do you hear it? Do you hear it? DO YOU HEAR IT?. It's the tone. Do you hear it"?
Don't even look at it...You've seen enough of that one.
lol
That's the best line
@@RByrne it's a top contender with "is there anything you do to your guitars?" "... I've toyed with the idea of putting a sticker on them"
"If I want an echo I just play the same thing twice, but the second time slightly quieter".

He's probably not lying lol. John 5 does the same thing
Yeah. He even did the "just that extra little push over the cliff" just like Sir Nigel Nufnell. All three interviews are tres hilaire but Justin's is awesome. Pisstaking feckers lol.
MrTommyTownshend being a cheap bastard i do the same when playing i ran
"it's the tone do you hear it?. I said it's the tone do you hear it? DO YOU HEAR IT?. IT'S GOT TONE!'
"...but the Wizard is the nuclear fission that flays the skin from the face and leaves it danging behind the audience"... But they're still smiling xD
Not gonna lie, I am not a big fan of the Darkness. However, I am definitely a fan of their self-deprecating attitude and I love Justin's Rides Again posts. Always informed and humorous. My best wishes to them all.
This is the funniest, most Spinal Tap Rig Rundown we've gotten in a while!
Yes, the smoke machine running the entire time - hysterical
steel panther? haha
I want to like this, but it's at 69. so consider this a like.
lol
Love that face close-up at 38:12, very Spinal Tap!
Sometimes it’s hard to put your finger on what makes us British but our sense of humour is definitely one of our great unifiers
"Plug it in, turn it up loud, and just get on with it." That is such a beautiful statement.
Dan Hawkins is a killer rhythm player ,plays concise solos that fit ,and has GREAT tone as well.
Best Rig Rundown - hands down. The Darkness could have their own TV show! Hilarious, humble, self-deprecating. More guitarists should take note. Have some fun!
And as if by magic... Justin hawkins rides again youtube channel
Justin Hawkins rides again... agaaaiin!!
So spectacularly eccentric and dysfunctional. Makes me proud to be British.
When these guys first came out with "Thing Called Love" and the stage outfits, everyone accused them of taking the piss, but those guys never actually listened to the rest of the album. Then, you get guys like Brian May putting their name behind them....
These guys legit rock
And then the main connection they have to Queen being Roger Taylor’s son Rufus is the band’s drummer
The horror...
I saw them once by pure chance and this man and his brother went bananas on stage, begin to end. Right then I became a fan of the Hawkins brothers, there has to be something in that gene pool.
I totalt agree, about Dan!
He' s a very good guitarist!
Some people: The laquer of the instrument tremendously influences the sound.
Frankie: Each time the neck breaks off it doesn't really affect anything once it's glued back together.
IMO, a very British, stiff upper lip reaction. “Well, if it still works.”
Make do and mend British attitude
@@mofo1739 Frankie's Irish - but ok lol
@@Jamesfoofighter Wrong - he's INCREDIBLY Scottish, that's an Edinburgh accent through and through. So, British. "but ok lol"
@@OfMaceAndMen so Scottish, but ok lol
After watching this I'm now officially a fan of the Darkness, simply because these guys are a crack up!
Now to listen to more of their stuff 👍🏻
Justins youtube chanel is what made me want to give them an actual chance. I remember when 'thing called love' had come out i was super into just heavy music and couldnt be bothered with anything else... but dudes personality on his videos made me love them and now im glad i did give em a chance.
Love the zoom in on the 42 year old man's face as he says he's 28.
Rig Rundown - Justin shows his left hand.
Pure gold. I could crack a beer and watch this again.
Justin is just hysterical. His RUclips chanel is a hoot.
Justin: "When you get to my age--28..." Spoken like a true rock star!
Well, since many haven't lived past 27, he's not wrong...
Justin’s brain is in perpetual comedy mode and he filters 90%. My kind of guy.
The British humour is strong in this rig rundown .
Justin is intensely hilarious at 34:44. I absolutely love his dry sense of humor. ✨😆👍
Not to mention he ROCKS‼️
have you been to his channel?
Justin's mode of expression is a delight.
'Fire is fuel plus oxygen'
"Can we see the back up guitars?"
"This shouldn't take long.... they're exactly the same as the other guitar"
gold! love Dan. just plays it.
Two years ago I went to Rams Head show in Baltimore they sounded amazing loved Dans Thin Lizzie jacket their tone is awesome
Justin is absolutely hilarious. I have watched this before and he is so funny in this interview. I love this guy.
Most important elements in a good rig - sense of humour and disinclination to take yourself too seriously. Excellent!
I love Frankie’s thoughtful and considered answers between Dan and Justin’s dry silliness. A wonderful Rig Rundown, many thanks. ✌🏻❤️🇬🇧
Justin is a Treasure! Love how he play's up Nigel from Spinal Tap to the T. Too Funny!
Justin's sense of humor is amazing!!! Love this band!!
I love Poullain's dry humour, seems great. Very cool bunch, down to earth lot.
The most American person ever interviewing the most UK band ever
So many people shit on this band but I don’t understand why, I think there great! Great vocals, riffs and rock n roll.
Best rig rundown ever. Saw them live a couple of years ago and they are killer on stage too.
“This colour gold is pleasing. It goes good with my outfits!!!” -Frankie. You can’t help but think Spinal Tap!!!
"I'm offended by noise gates". This guy is hilarious!
I laughed my ass off at that comment !
Justin definitely has a Nigel Tufnel vibe to him and it's great
that knob joke from dan was very david brent-ish
Haha :) not sure the interviewer got it though.
“I’m always going for the knobs” 😌 the presenter laughed but I don’t think he truly understood the Brit wit there
Spinal Tap in full effect here hahaha!!!!!!!!!!
Shows full pedal board after talking in detail about all of them- I just play in clean mode all night.
This is really refreshing in a world of "hi i'm generic man in his 20s, let me show you my kemper" and "let me show you my fender reverb deluxe vibratron twin jr" rig rundowns
"I'm offended by noise gates!" He had the chance, and he took it 🤣🥰x
Frankie is such a legend. Love that guy
As someone who has lived in Suffolk for the best part of 10 years, these guys are weird even for Lowestoft. In a good way obviously, but this whole video feels a bit like a dry, British version of Trailer Park Boys
“NFN” - Normal for Norfolk.
Really impressed with his knowledge of sound. He is what this series needs more of.

That was cool. Dan and Justin both quite funny, Frankie sort of out there and Justin just eccentric lol! Great band!
My wife got me 'Permission To Land' for my 30th b-day right around when it came out. She's a keeper. The wife and the album.
These guys are the real deal.
they have been my favorite band for quite a while, solely due to their sound which is great! but their sense of humor here was just awesome!
I've watched this one several times and each time Justin has me laughing out loud. I never listened to these guys much before, but for some damn reason they've won me over. Very entertaining.
Justin Hawkins is such a pisstaker xD I feel sorry for the presenter, our humour is clearly alien to him.
This is the best rig rundown so far, gotta love the attitude! This is rock'n'roll!!!
Frankie is one interesting man could listen to him talk for days
"It's called Dune" -"Why is it called June? After the month?" -"After the David Lynch film..."
then continues to call it June.
Brian Schmitt The man’s not daft if he doesn’t know Dune. Chill out.
@@quadrod that’s how brits pronounce dune
Thank you. Glad I'm not the only person to catch that.
Hahah..
These guys are always entertaining to watch. Brilliantly hilarious.
"when you get to my age.. 28.. you appreciate the rawness" - lmfao he's 41
It's a running gag.
i like how after he said that the camera zoomed in on his face as if the video editor was saying "as if, mate"
I was just watching this not knowing the band before :D I was a bit confused.
I will say it again....I could listen to Dan Hawkins 24/7 on any subject...The Darkness are the greatest band !
best rig rundown ever
agreed! I didn’t even know the band when I saw it but now I’ve seen them live twice and they’re one of my favourite. The guns n roses rundown with Richard fortus segment was great as well
Love the close of up Justin's face towards the end, like the camera man and editor caught on to the Spinal Tap vibe! XD
one of the most entertaining Rig Rundown episodes. Thanks!
Wow man !!........The Darkness !!.....I'm glad they survived !!..
Welsh Ray. He played with his fingers
Pretty good grave stone quote
"When you get to my age... 28, you start to appreciate...." and the camera immediately cuts to closeup of his road worn face lol
Justin is brilliant!
What's with all the smoke? am I seeing things? awesome video btw. saw these guys in Vegas at house of blues a few years back. THESE GUYS ARE AMAZING LIVE!!! great show!!!
Great guys, great gear. And the overall gear philosophy is right.
Dan is so modest "I play guitar like a drummer"
bassist interview best rig rundown interview ever !!
Great player! I didn't recognize him without the Thin Lizzy t-shirt. ;)
that bassist is just too cool. he'd have me in stitches all day long. funny blokes.
Scott Mac he's so dry.
Dune, is that because its the name of the month you got it in.Classic interviewing skills.
What a great bunch of musical lads!
Those T-Bird bass pickups with the three-screw mounting are made by Bartolini.
‘’Aesthetically it’s just unpleasant”” the most British thing I’ve ever heard 😂
"If I want an echo, I just play the same thing twice, but the second time, slightly quieter."
"Don't touch Anything on the way out"
Frankie Poullain is a national treasure
Funniest, coolest dudes ever. Not my jam music-wise but now I am going to hit their show when they make it round because they're badass.
Justin is a trip...LOL!!!! And Chris is right there with him. That was the best part of the interview BY FAR.
One of the most funny Rig Rundown I've seen! Those guys are incredible, lol!!!!
Best rig rundown ever! Nothing but respect and love for The Darkness. Cheers.

Best rundown ever. Dan was such a treat to listen to
this shade of gold on the bass goes well with my outfits
Watch "Justin Hawkins rides again", Justin's channel. Serious, sarcastic, funny, big brain-energy music talk!
