Whenever I go back and listen to Permission To Land, I can’t get over how much that album is just pure face melting rock
I think people often forget that and just remember Justin's silly outfits, campy falsetto singing and the sometimes silly lyrics. For all that, they were still (and are) a kick-ass rock band.
Definitely, the tones Dan and Justin get are just freaking incredible
Have you listened to Easter is Cancelled? It's a brilliant album.
adiohead I haven’t, I need to catch up on their more recent stuff
Yes bruv.
Glorious - man Bea nails Justin's lead playing, just wow!
Hi Andy
Hi. Nice. Watching now. Could we have a "Matt & Rabea by Not Busting the Bank" - where you have to replicate your current rig as cheaply as possible? Or, maybe better, where you replicate each others?
Thanks.
That’d be interesting, I’m actually wondering what Matt himself uses
@Conor Winston Matt also plays Chapmans? Cool
1:23 "my name is jeff" in the background
Easter Egg.
Ahhh the White LP Custom- Justin, Jonesy, James Dean Bradfield and probably Jesus even... Therefore Sound Like ( early) Manic Street Preachers - in particular, Motorcycle Emptiness, what a mind blowing tone!
Motorcycle Emptiness was played on his Tele thinline.
ruclips.net/video/5gslKjS155Q/видео.html
It blew my mind but apparently he played Motorcycle Emptiness on Richie's thinline tele. There's a video on YT with him discussing the song and playing it on the tele. Agree tho, the White Les Paul he plays is a monster, Holy Bible sound as well..
@@valemale78 Yeh anno... seen the vid. what I meant was that his white Lp was his trademark... and I want to see it recreated by the lads up above, by any means necessary... oooh with a squire strat ana Joyo 5 watt errrm stack?
!- that's the real fun!
Been Thinking they need to do JDB for ages. He is the most underrated guitarist out there . Got to try to get the tone on Faster!
Had such a massive smile throughout on this one. The Darkness don’t get enough credit for inspiring guitar players early 2000’s. I’d like to see Killswitch Engage next 🤘 Awesome series guys, your uploads make my day!
Les Paul + Marshall 🤤
Oh my God this sound is just awesome !!!
One of the best live rock sounds I’ve ever heard was The Darkness’ first stadium tour when Permission to Land went to the stratosphere.
I've seen the Darkness 5 times and the tone is always fantastic. Deafeningly loud, but also crystal clear. Side note, I think Justin was using a Dual Rectifier at the time of Permission to Land. Fairly certain when I saw them in 2015 it was Marshall and Wizard. In 2018 I think it was Marshall for both guys. Think, as Matt said, they have been adding Friedman to the mix lately.
Exactly what I was about to post. Mesa Boogie for Justin during PTL live era. That gainy crunchy lead was awesome
@Noble Failures if not then it was during recording. But I swear dual rectifiers were on stage
Yeah, I think he had burgundy ostrich skin cabs or something insane. Oh Justin
Find any live video from the golden era of the band - Justin has a dual rectifier. Lazy research by the Andertons guys.
Justin has gone back to Mesa for live sound lately.
Pretty sure the PTL album is all Marshall though, but I may be wrong.
Thank you. Love sounds like, love the Darkness but more than anything I love the sound of a Gibson into Marshall. There is nothing in tonal heaven quite like it.
Until you hear a Fender into a Marshall or a PRS into a Mesa! PRS and Mesa is a match made in heaven. You can literally take any PRS off the shelf, plug it into a Rectifier or Mark V and it’s always perfect!
@@lecorsaire2283 I’ve played all the above mentioned combinations and still to me nothing is as good as Gibson into Marshall.
That sounds amazing.
The Darkness should be the biggest rock band in the world. Their recent output is just as quality as they’ve ever released. Such a consistent display of balls out rock, musicianship and songwriting.
Overrated! Possible even more overrated than the White Stripes and Muse!
It’s not surprising that mainstream rock started dying shortly after they came out!
Best ever “sound like”.
I wish nothing but the best for Matt but I miss this series and these 2 personalities
This is easily one of the best sounding episodes you guys have ever done. Just glorious tones.
i look forward to rabea’s video showing off that les paul that he definitely wasn’t going to buy
That was phenomenal! I especially enjoyed the back and forth cut to each of you during "get your hands off my woman", that was cool as hell.
Never heard of The Darkness. Checked it out on Spotify. You guys nailed it!
I really dig The Darkness. None of my friends like them at all. I don’t think they ever got their due here in the states. The gear today sounds so fantastic. Might have to rewatch this video. 👍
Kolchak357 despite this video they don’t really get their due in the UK here either, when it’s stuff outside of Permission To Land
Bea: someone might buy this guitar... not me.
also bea: This guitar is mine.
Pierre1SwE I didn’t buy it
I wish I had that money hahaha
@@RabeaMassaad Can only hope your mysterious Gretsch Penguin benefactor will make a return visit to Andertons ;)
The problem spending that much on one guitar is that you probably wouldn’t get the use out of it in fear of it getting damaged or stolen... nice to own but it deserves to be played...
@@RabeaMassaad payment plan time 😏
Sound like Prince and The Revolution 😎
Great Job Guys!
They'd have to get Pete in for this
Yes!! I've been asking for this as long as they've been doing this show
Definitely, I always thought Prince was underrated as a guitarist so I’d love to see the guys take him on
Please do already Interpol without busting the bank and Radiohead by busting
The playing here is amazing guys. Great job
Guys this was great to watch you can see you were loving it
The bobbing fro and dancing beard . Cool !
I wouldn't mind a Porcupine Tree by busting the bank.
pocketcheese1 add a keyboard component into the mix given how much ambience is part of the PT sound.
I like when Matt softly said 'OK' when Bea refused to buying the LP.... It's OK Bea, you can refuse all you want, you are head-over-heels in love.
Secretly Bea is like Mike Myers in Wayne's World - "It will be mine...oh yes, it will be mine..."
Permission to Land is in the Top 20 greatest rock records ever. Change my mind.
They really nailed this one
Well that sounded incredible. Great playing guys. Really well done.
Yes! Thank you
Best sounds like yet
For the love of all that's fuzz please Dinosaur Jr!
This
It'd have to be by busting the bank in order to get enough amps to match j
@@caseyking8394 They could emulate his studio setup, he uses a sub 20w Fender and Vox amps.
@@thehowlingjoker good point, I forgot about that. Doesn't he also use stuff like telecasters in the studio?
@@caseyking8394 Jazzmasters, P90 Gibsons, Telecasters, Esquires, Gretschs. Basically if its vintage or in a sparkly finish he has likely used it.
Nailed it guys 😆
Miss you two
Sound like "THIN LIZZY "
They did two on lizzy already
they've already done a without and by busting for it my dude
Both Without Busting and By Busting have been done
I'm sure he doesnt need telling three times.
@@ryanboshell6124 sorry I just missed that episode
Great sounds like, I was smileing & laughing when you were playing at the pure enjoyment of that classic Les Paul & Marshall sound & watching the enjoyment on your faces.
Thank you for an entertaining video :)
Love Permission to Land, but you guys are seriously missing out if you haven't listened to any of their new material since their reformation! Last of Our Kind (the album), to me, is their best release!!!
Such a great band
Muse, then the Darkness!? You guys are just going through my playlist for the last two months.
Sound like the Scorpions... pleasee.. 🙏
The darkness might be up there as the most fun guitar parts to play.
Fuck ME Bea, you were meant to play Les Pauls. Absolutely beastly playing. Just sounds right. The two of you really nail these tracks together, very tight.
Just a thought could the Andertons guitar sound like do a cross-over with the drums dep and do a whole band soundalike? I reckon that would be mad. It could give much more context to the riffs and you can hear how close everything is to the actual song. Anyway love your work guys
Led Zeppelin would be great for that! They have iconic guitar, drum, and bass tones. Bonus points of they can get Pete to sound like Robert Plant
Agreed, Rabea! No scratch plate!
Well excited.
Quality tones, quality playing, quality bros, quality riffs!
But when we going to get Jeff Buckley or Prince!?
I’m neither a Gibson or a Marshall fan but god I enjoyed that.
Lovely work guys, well batted.
You two are such a great team. Hugely enjoyable and I learn a lot about tone and sounds from you both!
I'm a have to study the darkness some a couple of them riffs was badass
White LP Custom thats class
I BELIEVE IN A THING CALLED LOVE ❤️
Sound like They Might be Giants without busting the bank!
Man! Makes me happy to hear that name for the first time in like twenty, twenty five years.
A message for "sounds like " I'd love to see a segment on an under £1500 jazz rig emulating; Wes Montgomery, Grant Green, Sal Salvador etc.
And perhaps one on George Harrison, Ritchie Blackmore or Robby Krieger??
I would love to see a Polyphia sounds like
Chetan Sanghani they use axe fx
With a KATANA!
@GeronimoBiggles NOT THE KATANA! It's the new Marshall DSL40C
@GeronimoBiggles OH HELL NO!
YES!!!! I JUST WATCHED THE OLD ONE OF THESE
Oasis by busting the bank!! :D
Yesssssssss😁
Ah man, the darkness were a huge influence on my playing as well growing up through the guitar players of the early 00's. Glad "black shuck" got picked. That's a great song.
Been waiting for this for a long time! Well done lads it was pretty close!
Saw The Darkness on tour recently and it’s cool to see how their lineup has changed. Dan has lots of pedals now and Justin uses Hiwatt. They’ve started using strats and teles!
Sound like Reverned Horton Heat would be fun to see
Gretsch G6120
Fender Hotrod Deluxe
Keeley drive/boost pedal
strymon flint
strymon el capistan
that's for a by busting, a cheaper sound like would be a G5420, Blues Jr, Boost pedal, cheaper reverb and delay
Wish you could add some bass to these busting the bank episodes. Or do some special “band edition” sound likes with the drums and everything.
yeah, if they got a bass rig for frankie in this video it would've been a Gibson Thunderbird through an orange bass amp
still i'd love to see band edition sound likes!
Man. . . I really miss this series.
We need new episodes!
gREAT VID BOYS lOVE IT ...KEEP IT UP
Great banter, fun and legendary playing.
My scratch plate came off my LP before it was even plugged in.
Almost Clement I can’t decide so I just let them stay the way they are either way
Weight relief ... Authentic.
I did exactly the same haha
Yep, that was bloody awesome. How about Steve Rothery from Marillion next?
Holy fuck balls that’s some good sounding gear.
LP+JCM=Love. Guys, can you do sounds like Corrosion of Conformity? No budget. Please!
Well and truly nailed the sound and the playing.
Sum 41 by busting
Bang on boys
Ahhh this was awesome. The sound, spot on. The playing, inspiring. Best 'Sounds Like' yet. I doubt enough people would even know who they are, but could you please do a "Sound Like Chevelle' (Pete Loeffler) video?
This might be the closest you guys have ever gotten on a Sounds Like video. It was incredible guys. Love those tones
It's not that hard to sound like a band who has no unique signature tone.
The main amp on "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" is a Dual Rec. Its just an opinion, but if you don't believe me - try it
FINALLY!
please do blink-182 BY busting the bank or angels and airwaves without busting the bank
I'm surprised we didn't see the Studio Vintage so you guys could go with your original JCM and Plexi plan
I loved everything about this video. The content, the presentation, the playing of the Darkness riffs and solos. It really was top drawer.
My only criticism is I would have preferred a bit of diversity in the kit you chose. A boogie or a Friedman would have reflected Justin's rig more. But still mega.
Would love to see you do Rammstein.
The darkness without busting was good but this was just on another level! Really enjoyed this episode and have replayed it more times than I could remember lol...A great Gibson LP thru a cranked up Marshall is still one of the best sound 😍😍😍😍😍😍
Les Paul -> Marshall... done
Ooookaaayyyyy...... So just how much of a discount did you get Rabea??😉
A message for "sounds like " I'd love to see a segment on an under £1500 jazz rig emulating; Wes Montgomery, Grant Green, Sal Salvador etc.
And perhaps one on George Harrison, Ritchie Blackmore or Robby Krieger???
Alter Bridge BY busting and shinedown as usual :)
10:24 as Phil Burnell once said when trying out the Wendy's Chicken Pup Sandwich "Oh my goodness, this is spectacular!"
great sound like guys, very close to Justin and Dan's tones
i agree it was spectacular, and i've been waiting for Justin and Dan for a hwile
I did nothing wrong ack ack snort... I did everything correct
@s r bugged sound like mechanics, nothing i could do
Side note, this is one of the best tones I’ve heard out of sounds like... it’s BEAUTIFUL
1:55 I agree Rabea!
Sound like Mac DeMarco!
Ghost without busting!
Sound like Ghost, please. Thanks, guys.
Rabea is such a beast!
2 great amps
Didn’t Justin use Mesas on PtL?
I think not having a custom (or at least not taking a guitar with the 498T in the bridge) makes a huge difference here. That pickup has a very different character to my ear and feels very different to play than say burstbuckers, custombuckers, etc.
Please consider "sound like CKY"
All of the OC2s
Saw them support The Wildhearts a few weeks ago, might have been an off day but they were pretty uninspiring. The laptop contained too much of their sound and they just weren’t ‘live’ enough ☹️
@@vernonbear that's kind of a bummer, i didn't dig the new stuff either but i love the music they made with deron
Watching Rabea plays Justin's solos only confirm how great guitarist Justin is
Hate to sound like a pessimist, but that's kinda a disappointing selection of Marshall for being on that side of the pond. That's what you'd see in a shop here in the states. Thought for sure you guys would have one of everything lol
Very enjoyable this one, seeing all them Marshall's in all their splendor.... Please could you's have a go at RHCP or The Cult or Killing Joke...? Muchas Gracious....
They've done a Sound Like Frusciante both Without and By Busting, but it would've been cool to have done one for Josh's tones when he was in the band (and also include a rig for Flea)
Need to do some more interesting tones and more metal bands. Crowbar would be cool with a solid state amp, Pallbearer would be cool because they use baritones and a 7, Kyuss would be interesting, Windhand would be interesting, Electric Wizard would be interesting... I don’t think anyone’s getting excited about the tones from a Gibson into a Marshall. We’ve all heard it thousands of times.
Justin: Les Paul Custom, Friedman
Dan: Les Paul Standard, Plexi
"Permission to Land is my favourite and I know it's Marshalls"
Didn't Justin Hawkins play a Mesa Boogie (Rectifier) back in the early days? I know Dan always played Marshall though
I think the rectifires where for live use only, in the studio I believe he used old Plexi's and JMP's, sure as hell sounds like it 🤘
