    If the reason for censoring out words such as "anorexia" and "bulimia" is due to RUclips guidelines, then the guidelines are fundamentally flawed. Creators shouldn't feel forced to keep such important topics out of their discussions in fear of being less favorable in the eyes of potential sponsors or the risk of being demonetized. These are serious topics that we need to confront, and the idea of censorship - which is also done across literally every social media - is deeply troubling. Life-altering experiences such as EDs, mental illnesses or sexual assault shouldn't be something we need to stay silent about.

      @Arterexius 7 месяцев назад +63

      @@SteveDice21 That's why we need to talk about it. They won't start caring if we try to kill taboos with silence. Marketing is honestly really easy to understand, as at the bottom of it all, the advertisers will always go with the flow, meaning that if the majority of online users express a desire to talk about these subjects, then advertisers will follow in quick succession as they want as many eyeballs looking at their ads as possible. So the problem isn't really advertisers, but Google, Meta, Microsoft & Apple

    • @reezlaw
      @reezlaw 7 месяцев назад +15

      @@Arterexius the point is that if they don't want their brands associated with these themes at all, no amount of "desire" by online users will change that

    • @Arterexius
      @Arterexius 7 месяцев назад +27

      @@reezlaw That depends on the amount of money there is to be made. Remember that it is rarely the brands themselves that do the advertising on RUclips. Instead it's usually specific advertising companies who get hired by different brands to promote their products through ads. This means that we won't have to target the brands themselves, but instead the advertising companies that are hired by the brands.
      Of course, if we just give up before actually trying for longer than the lifespan of a viral subject, then we will never succeed with anything, but the internet have already shown, time and time again, that it can absolutely change things.
      As for brands not wanting to be associated with these themes, I find that hard to believe. Another aspect of marketing is a rather crucial aspect. Analyze your target audience, what do they like/dislike. Content like this isn't exactly the type that conservative leaning people will watch and a good chunk of the people who use the internet most frequently, are young people and one of the leading subjects among young people have for the past many years been mental and physical health.
      Having your brand associated with wanting to promote physical and mental health is a pretty solid way of getting eyeballs on your products, hence why I don't think that brands will choose to ignore a literal golden opportunity to potentially earn more money and faster than if they just ignored the topics all together.

    Sometimes i really, REALLY hate the internet. And this whole issue with Boyinaband is a classic example of that.
    I was a huge fan of Dave and his videos - he came across as incredibly likeable, ridiculously intelligent and self-aware and very empathetic. However, it was clear very soon that he had some deep-rooted mental health issues, that often plunged him into spirals of depression and self-loathing. Whenever he went on a hiatus from RUclips, I guessed it was due to those mental health problems. And when the allegations about him surfaced, my immediate thought was "Oh my god, whether it's true or not, this is going to DESTROY him. We may never see him again on social media - and god knows what it's going to do to him mentally." I wasn't at all surprised to see him disappear completely.
    I feel like I don't want to just dismiss the allegations as lies outright (I'm an SA survivor myself,) but I'm not prepared to just believe them either, without more substantial proof than just a bunch of screen-grabbed messages that could easily have been faked. Also the 'letter to his family from all of his ex-girlfriends' seems... a weird way of going about 'fixing' him. Who DOES that? What group of wronged exes gets together and thinks "I know how we can hold this guy accountable - we'll write a letter to his parents, signed by all of us - but we'll post a copy of it to social media!" Surely a better strategy, if you're all supporting each other, would be to go through actual criminal/legal channels? I don't know, it just doesn't add up for me. And I'm not surprised Dave hasn't said anything in response. Unfortunately, I fear this has completely broken him, and nothing and no-one will ever persuade him to go anywhere near a public platform again.

It reflects badly on them as well, so it's an invasion of THEIR privacy when they've done nothing wrong. (Also seems pretty calculuating of the exes that they'd even make a copy of that letter to post on social media - a letter that SHOULD'VE stayed a private matter between them and the people they addressed it to. Heck, do we even know the parents DID get the letter, and that the only 'version' of it they saw WAS the one posted to social media? That would be pretty disgusting.) But even taking all of that into account, if their true goal WAS to 'stop him harming other girls,' then their first port of call should've been the police and other relevant authorities. If you think you've got enough evidence to plaster all over social media and ruin a peson's life and career, then you've got enough to go through the proper legal channels and REALLY prevent them from doing any more harm. And since there's no evidence of them ever doing THAT... that's when I'd start taking anything they claimed seriously.

    It's sad how people are just outright blaming Dave and condemning him without any actual proof. There has been only 1 legitimate female in the case and she came forward saying that they were never together, he helped her make a song and they collaborated on it. People kept saying it was "weird and creepy" how he was helping an underage girl, meanwhile Mr. Beast literally helps children all the time but his career is booming and most of his fan base are literal children. The entire thread was made by a DJ who "knew" Dave, he pretended they were BFFs on Instagram when he posted a picture of him and Dave with others in the picture...but the picture was him sitting on a couch with someone else and Dave was standing up talking to someone else, it was a get-together they were at and he'd only met Dave a few times altogether. He literally admitted to ALL of this on his own social media account before removing the Reddit thread because people found his Social Media from his Reddit (which is how I found him because he literally had his social media all over his Reddit account pretending he was a famous DJ) and he said he had received "threats" while he was actively telling people to go threaten Dave and his family. I'm sorry but there's been 0 evidence to backup or support the claims and the "joke" of him not knowing what laws there are is just outdone and outplayed especially when you're doing it just because you know it'll bring you attention and shows that you're supporting the outrageous witch hunt despite the fact that Innocent Until Proven Guilty is literally a thing in the law.

      The thing is though, Unless a parent is involved. No grown adult should be "helping someone underage". Especially when it's not a life or death situation.
      Mr Beast has been heavily criticized for his type of content and what he makes for children. And what his "helping" actually looks like behind closed doors and sensational videos. Recently got outed for treating other creators like garbage
      So this is comparing apples to oranges imo
      I understand you like Dave and his content. But it Really sounds like your bias is clouding your judgement. Alot of this comment is jumbled defensive mess about a separate irrelevant situation that didn't matter.

      The whole stranger danger thing is so vastly overstated that it has ruined generations of children where 99.99 percent of the time abuse comes from within their own family. It also implies that all contact between children and adults are somehow sexual in nature, it isn't. Throughout my life i've dealt with a lot of kids, from babysitting to helping my own mom who worked with abused children, to running one of the largest wow private servers, and having to desperately search for a child's address and name because they made a threat of imminent self harm, in order to get emergancy professionals to them. At the same time having to keeping them talking about the things in their life that have led them to the point that they were saying goodbye to the community.

    I only really glanced at it once and didn't read too much into it, but if I remember correctly the accusations were really contradictory. There was no effort in linking any of the screenshots to Dave, the OP said she'd keep the victims identities a secret to protect them, but then shared the face and name of the then-17 year old girl without her consent, the only girl who was linked to actual proper evidence, this struck most people as an odd thing to do. She also took down her post, whatever reason behind it is up to debate but it didn't help the authenticity behind her claims, it only made it all seem more suspicious.
    My stance is basically, it could be true, I don't know, it doesn't seem impossible for it to be true, but I'm on the side of innocent until proven guilty, cuz evidence isn't really evidence if it's so full of holes that a child could fake it on the same level.

      @@neila128 There are vindictive people who get all up in arms for those Dave might have ridiculed in his songs, then there are those who are spiteful simply because they don't like Dave for who he is, be it his thin body, long hair, hair color, being British, or simply because he likes rock and rap. Those sort of people do not mind ruining a person's life, just because they don't like said person.
      Then there are the virtue signalers, they'll jump at any mistreatment and injustice be it true or false, not because they care about it, but because they want to place themselves on a pedestal in order to further their career or reputation. Dave's moderators and some of his old collaborators fall in that category. When the allegations hit a high, Dave's moderators were quick to say, "he isn't a good friend, he barely keeps contact with you and we slave away to manage his communities, he would totally do all of those things in the allegations!" and the collaborators would go, "yeah man, he ghosted me and won't do more collaborations with me, he also stole some of my collaboration opportunities! I bet you he did those things in the allegations." None of their claims support the allegations, it's simply virtue signaling.
      When the post was deleted due to skepticism of the lack of evidence, and the OP's refusal to drop any identities for newly submitted "evidence" for their safety, but not bat an eye to the safety of the girls people were already criticizing Dave for, the moderators and collaborators went quiet. If they really felt so strongly about it all, why would they need OP's post in order to continue? Now they've already come forth, there's no reason to back out of it unless they were just virtue signalers without proper substance to their claims.
      I'm sure if Dave was fine prior to the allegations, he will be fine now. By the way, I'm not saying that the allegations aren't true, I'm just saying that OP did not do a good job of converting me, so I will stick to innocent until "properly" proven guilty.

There are many cases and situations where, even though laws are broken, no one actually contacts the law over what happened or the law itself refuses to take action. It would be even worse in a he-said-she-said situation or if it happened in multiple jurisdictions.
      Also, Reddit is a hub for information and conversation. If you are looking to stay anonymous, but still get the word out, it would be exactly the right place to do it. Problem is, because there is no legal trail and no trail to follow on Reddit, the allegations are unprovable from the jump.

Or, at the very least, shouldn't the accusations themselves be easier to find, as opposed to hundreds of third-parties who are merely relaying what they have heard from someone else?
    I don't know if David is guilty of any of this, but it scares the shit out of me that the "entire" internet knows about all the crap he has supposedly done despite the fact that finding some reliable sources on the matter is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

      That's because they no longer exist on the internet, with the exception of potential screenshots floating around. I think the reason for the post's deletion is quite clear. They got what they wanted and therefore, didn't need to post any proof. The community on Twitter was, and still is to a degree, if you're being accused of a serious crime and you're silent about it, you're guilty. No need to venture deeper into the allegations, the people who posted them, or who the allegations were targeting. His absence is all they really wanted. It's very similar, at least theoretically, to Tobuscus's situation. Someone made a false allegation, he remained silent, and it destroyed his career. He uploads now to varying degrees of success, but he's never going to retain the same level of viewership he once enjoyed. The difference is, no one, to my knowledge so I could be wrong, defended Dave, while some people did involve themselves in Toby's accusations.

Some says she wanted to hide because of Dave's fans sending her death threats but Dave has no fans, just supporters from other youtubers who are their fans. It was also proof for their slander on the internet considering if it blows up, they can just use the words I DELETED THE POST AND APOLOGIZES TO THE VICTIM as their ploy if they ever went to court, and just get a misdemeanor charge which is not crucial. It is always cooked like this in Reddit and Twitter. Nothing new.

This is very much an offline issue now because he's an offline individual right now. I'm usually on the side of believing victims (while giving the accused the benefit of the doubt), but since there isn’t really a "victim" who has been identified, this seems like a really sad reach for attention using someone who isn't likely to show up and defend himself. I have remained subscribed to both Dave's youtube channel and his spotify in case he ever returns. I doubt he will at this point. With how bad his mental health was/is, compounded with all these allegations, I don't think I'd be willing or able to return to a space that was a large source of mental health issues, either. I think his silence on the matter is telling, but in a way that a lot of people might disagree with me on. I believe in "innocent until proven guilty." There is no verifiable evidence at this point. The "telling-ness" of his silence, to me, is that he has completely and permanently put that part of his life behind him. The internet is too much stress on his mental health, even before those allegations. He'd left long before them. He does not, and should not need to come back to the internet and fight to defend himself from allegations to the internet at large when he's done what's best for his mental health. If these allegations impacted his life offline, the only place he needed to defend himself is, indeed, offline. Which he's probably done at this point.
    Honestly, the allegations coming out long after he left the internet feels more like bitter fans trying to force his hand to return. Only it hasn't worked out the way these anons have hoped. Their one thread of "real evidence", R, didn't even want to get involved in the first place and asked to have her name removed from the doc. She was involved against her will. If something actually happened there, she also wanted it put behind her and not dragged out in the open for the masses. It wasn't right for the anons to drag her into what I believe is petty, bitter fans being mad that their former favourite content creator has chosen to prioritize his own mental health over the enjoyment of parasocial fans.
    It also isn't right for so many people to name drop her when covering this when she didn't want her name involved in the first place. I wish people would stop.

      @@MetalBansheeX It surprises me to no end that in a lot of cases "certain" people seek abusive relationships, fail to identify them as such, blame the abuser later and end up in the same situation shortly after. It seems to me these people seek misery. And also it's never hard to make them out. Be it from them talking, the way they behave or how they look. I tend to stay away from these people and I have been rewarded by never having to deal with the sorts of problems they constantly seem to face. Maybe, just maybe these people just reap what they sow by acting a certain way, dressing a certain way or engaging in certain acticities.

      @@sackgesicht4371 I mean and intend to hurt people. I get thanked for it.
      Bad things happen in life. Just don't pretend. Most people do. It's the "nice" people trying to claim a moral high ground that aren't being honest. When they hate. When they resent. When they push away because of that. That's beyond abuse at that point. It's cowardness. Very few people want to be a coward once they realize that.
      It also helps that I teach people to fight back. People want to know they can do things themselves. Other key moves to make. Present options. etc. Most people drop the ball. Try to be a "nice" person when nice guys finish last. Think I'm going to coddle someone when they're making mistakes? Or thinking of offing themselves? That's not how I get them to see reason. If all you do is wallow and think of yourself then that's the problem. At the same time no one acts without self interest. Being selfish isn't the problem. Pretending to be a saint is.
      Take mods that abuse power for example. RUclips cenership. There's "abuse" then there's "suffering in sielnce" and "hiding the truth". There's "Push people around" but then there's "teaching cowardness". People that are pushed can learn to do better. But they can't learn like this. Not wih cenership. Not with hiding the truth. This is much much worse then anything any honest bully would do. It's why people off themselves if anything. Any opinion that isn't "allowed" is silenced. So people don't get to have one. It's "wrong" to have a strong opinion.
      I'm a sadistic monster, but even I'm taking issue with this. And people not only "allow" it, but worse, encourage and enable it. Where is peoples courage?

    Wasnt there a similar situation - where a good ticktoker who used to act as a COD character(a imaginary character-forgot his name) he used to make tictok and a lot of people enjoyed it, but he was internet bullied to commit suc*de on live stream, with wrong allegation about grooming (the girl said that she was not underage and directly approached him , even when he said her he wasn't interested) finally when he started to accept her she and 2 other people started to leak their messages and basically told others that he was grooming her{she and the 2 other(3 in total) were planning this wayy before the girl even meet him, and then she became a editor for him, from there she started to approach him and finally it ended with the guy commiting suc*de live stream on tiktok )

    Great recap! I only heard about BIAB during the fallout and I appreciate that this is an objective summary rather than part of the pile-on. Since their stated goal was to stop the guy, I'd understand if they posted the allegations during his channel's growth or when he was active--but posting it a year after he already went offline and quiet is incredibly suspect.

    Innocent until proven guilty > Guilty until proven innocent. Everything that is a violation of the law and has not been processed through the appropriate legal channels automatically appears very suspicious and dubious to me. There is no need to make an online post about it; one should simply go through the proper legal channel.

      It teaches you how to learn, if you actually pay attention. If you analyse current events within the framework that you used to learn about history, that's when you begin to think critically. You have all the knowledge of the world in your pocket, if you know how to learn and what questions to ask, you can learn anything. It isn't communicated well to students, but it is about giving you transferable skills, so that you can adapt them in this ever changing world.

    The thing that ticks me off is that people have been memeing the hell of Dave being the bad guy before these reports were even confirmed.
    So much of RUclips controversy is a they did/they didn’t argue fest, and it’s almost always stupid because issues like these should have been handled in real life, in an actual court, and not spread over the internet where a bunch of people can make assumptions off of evidence that isn’t supported.
    They say, “We didn’t want to have to do this” to try and draw sympathy, but what evidence is there that they actually had that conflict? We don’t know these people, their evidence, nor the other side of the story and yet millions of people are taking a stance.
    Honestly, this is just reminding me about what I hate about RUclips: *Unsupported allegations, controversy without a purpose, and bringing people’s private lives and reputations to the hands of people who aren’t trained in law nor looking at evidence fairly on how to handle this.*
    So thank you for giving a non-biased analysis that doesn’t make assumptions, and unless Boyinaband ever returns to address this, stop sending me memes on controversy that is unfounded and unresolved.
