- Star Tours 2 was officially announced at the D23 Expo on Sept. 12, 2009. It will be coming to Disneyland and Walt Disney World in 2011 and will feature 3D projections and new destinations.

@ghosthost100 cause they don't have much more room to do crazy expansions unless they scrap downtown disney, the hotels and the parking structure, they got rid of a parking area to make cars land
However, I am stoked about the pod racing. To be in the middle of that is going to be totally wicked! Ever since I first saw Episode I when I was little, I always wished I could be in a pod race and now I am for real. Whooo!! I also presume that they're refurbishing the ride cuz the current one is kind of worn out and glitchy. But I'm definately going to miss the video before you sit down with those little teddy bear guys and the flight attendants, it had all that 80s goodness to it!
Talk about out with the old and in with the new. That ride is awesome lets hope the new one will be better.
The only problem with the original as I see it is that VERY dated (1986)pre-show. The ride itself still stands up rather well. I have a feeling that Star Tours II will be a mixture of several elements from all 6 films.Glad to see they are finally going to update this awesome ride!
They should show that trailer before every Disney Digital 3D presentation between the rerelease of Toy Story and the opening of the new Star Tours.
In all fairness that is just one part of the plot. Star tours 2 will have about 25 scenes [I am not sure of the number could be higher or lower} and will randomly pick 3 scenes and basiclly will never have the same experience when you ride

From what I have read about star tours 2, there will be many star wars locations than this. So you will hardley get to experiance the same ride twice. Also what I read up is that there will be surround sound and it will be in HD along ith the 3D and 2 other droids in the ship.
I can only imagine how beautiful that would have looked in 3D

Star Tours is probably taking you to Tatooine, then somehow the robot pilot guy gets off course and then you are in the middle of a pod race. bam
We'll see how it turns out. Hopefully Disney doesn't screw up the queue section like they did with Space Mountain. I was just at Disneyland 3 weeks ago, but because of lower back pains I couldn't go on Star Tours. I'm gonna try & get out there again before the 7/27 closure.
I think the simulator part will remain the same. Just in 3D, with a different journey. The previews show the same ship, just painted different.
Hey, If Universal can make a whole theme section based on Harry Potter, I see no problem with Disney making a theme section of everything Star Wars. Star Tours II looks promising.
Rumors had been going around about star tours closing and either a star tours 2 or a walle being open after it closed. I think that's why everyone was cheering because the rumors were true.
I hate that Disneyland keeps redoing everything. Stick with tradition! I also hate how they're going to do the new one in 3D. Why does everything these days have to be in 3D?!?! It would probably be just as good in 2D. With all these 3D movies out, I'm already used to the 3D expirience, so 3D is not going to add anymore for my Star Tours expirience. I am also pissed that they are including the prequel franchise into the new ride because they weren't that great.

i know nothing about that but let me put it this way. I dont have a membership, yet i saw this "exclusive" footage for free here on youtube. If there is anything u truly need to see, pretty much everything is on the internet.
I liked Star Tours (though it made me nauseous) but It seriously needs an update, I went 2 years ago and it felt like stepping into a time machine set for 1980,and there's characters in the ride that aren't even in the movies. I'm going back again (Orlando) this Sept, Wish the new one would be up & running by then : (

Um people, if we are going to be flying in a starspeeder 1000, yes 1000, not 3000, which is a slightly different from the 3000, then you should know that the whole thing wont be a pod race. So dont get pissed off for nothing.

whe he said star tours was going to be closing, everone started clapping. I was thinking, why the hell would you be happy for that? Then it zoomed out and the stormtroopers came out and I went, Oh. Now I get it.
Getting rid of Eisner was the best thing and this is a good example.

Why don't they just have both versions showing instead of completely removing the first version?
I went on "Star Tours 2" last summer... I didn't notice any difference. I always thought it was 3D anyway. lol If I did notice anything it's that my neck now hurts after I ride it because I think the motions got updated and they jerk a lot harder.
But this ride is still my favorite Star Wars thing. Next to the Phantom Menace movie. I loved Jar Jar when I was a little girl. And Anakin (spelling??).

@moger999 Really??? That makes me feel much better cuz seriously, new one is nice and all but they can't ditch the classics just like that.. that ride's been around forever and one of the best, I think I'm not the only person that would be disappointed if they did
I hope they get rid of Or revamp that robot guide...he was hard to see and he talked to quietly.
But i think it is awesome the way they presented this. he could have just said.
"And new stars tours 2, here's the clip, ok moving on!"

IF YOU PEOPLE would follow the disney links....there are 3 destinations in the adventure, not just a pod race. akso it take place between 3-4, not in epidode I....ignorance is not biliss
Honestly.. Episodes 4-6 are what makes 'Star Wars' to me. As much as I've already been on the original Star Tours ride, I always make sure to experience it again and again every time I go to Disney Land. Who really wants a New Star Tours made up of content from Episodes 1-3? That's not the REAL Star Wars in my book.. I wish if anything, they'd at least stay with the Ep 4-6 theme.. The REAL Star Wars :(

-For the Queue, you get to meet Jar-Jar,Young Obi-Wan Kenobi(Monitor),Qui-Gohn-Jin(Monitor) and Young Anakin(monitor).
-For the Boarding Concorse(Riding Point) they will use a new safety video.
-During the queue, they will use the Cantina Band Music.

Yeah, I didnt like how they changed the lines for some of the rides at disneyland. I work there and cutting the line in 2 separate halfs is just stupid. They did the same thing for Indiana Jones. I hope Thunder Mountain doesn't get that change.
I would like to read a "Star Wars: Expanded Universe" novel, where they refer to the Star Tours Ride.
I can imagine Imperial Stormtroopers saying aloud, "Hey, who are those guys? This is a war zone!"

i hope its more than just pod racing.hope they go to other world and alot of space flight like the old startours.hope the expand the startour area and have a star wars diner too like the cantina .gotta blow those harry potter fans at universal away!
@DisMupPix010 Yeah, we're going down there from june 20th-27th, so we're JUST gonna make it. I'm still a bit sad because that's always been one of my favorite rides, and I didn't really like the pod racers in the first place.
I asked the other week about this when we visited as it had just closed gutted!! thankfully i have been on it before. The guy i spoke to said he couldn't say much, but he did say that if you were to go on this ride 25 times in a day you would get 25 different experiences, i asked which era it will cover & he said it will cover both trilogys, books & somthing else, he only smirked when i asked other questions, but it sounds like there will be multiple ride/screen types
@ElNoahLoco Many people are complaining that they are including episodes 1-3 but if u think about it, the younger generation was raised on 1-3, not 4-6. So, in order to please the younger generation, they would have to include things that They knew like pod racing and such. HOWEVER, I highly doubt they will not include 4-6 stuff. From what I hear, the story will take place between 5 and 6, and only the pod-race will be from 1
the original ride makes me really sick, i can never go on it. i know it's iconic, and i wish they would stick with the original theme but the actual ride part needs a face lift.
original star wars movies are better than the new ones old star tours will be better than the new one they are fucking up the rides like pirates and small world the rides are fine the way they were and i better no hear that they want to change the alice in wonderland because of the new movie or add aliens to the indian jones ride sorry im just realy upset right now
i'm with you on this. It better not just be pod racing....or just the prequels. Sure, the ride as it is now is a little dated, but that's the Star Wars tha I love. I hope that they include things from all the Star Wars movies...with that AND the 3D it would be cool. IF its just based around pod racing from Episode I...I'm sorry, but that would just suck!

@AttractionsMagazine it opens on june 3rd but on may 20th is was just a special preview, but later the 20th and also some of the 21st they have "soft opened" it. Soft Opening means they open it a few hours a day to test on the public, the have it closed today but it was opened yesterday.
@AangelKataang Most likely. They said 2011, and if it closes July/September, I'm guessing it will only be a year. So, it should be back open sometimes maybe Mid-September or early October. Then again, they might try to have it done by the summer, more people usually cause of school break
@AangelKataang At the D23 Expo in Anaheim, it was announced that Star Tours at Disneyland and Disney's Hollywood Studios will close in October 2010 and re-open in 2011 as Star Tours II-wikipedia The Little Meemaid ride will open spring 2011 and Cars Land and the Buena Vista Street Will open mid 2012.
NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, and not that it's changing, but that they're doing it on the pod race. I mean, I hated that movie, and we want starships in space not on freakin' land. I mean, i respect that they're changing it, but by god, why Star Wars episode 1?
I'm afraid the new one is going to be ruined by crap from the prequels. I mean, we saw pod racing - that's a good indication that it may be. The original had that classic 80s nostalgic feel that Star Wars of today no longer has.

Pod Racing isnt nearly as exciting as a space sequence.
The presentation was done nicely though. All those Storm Troopers must have been awesome to witness. My inner geekness is being awakened!
Yep, they still have the Country Bear Jamboree in Florida, but they replaced it with Pooh in California. You aren't alone in disliking that change - there were many, MANY people who wanted (and still want) the old bears back - and I am one of them!
@trooperman dude at one point when I was taking a look at this I was thinking the same idea have the Cantina be lunch and diner, Dex's diner be like a breakfast place and the night club from episode 2 can be a night club.

The really need to accept Star Wars as a media phenomenon and treat it respectfully. Who wouldn't want to eat in a replica restaurant of the Mos Eisley Cantina? With a live/animatronic band?
@indyjake210 its not all gonna be podracing, i read somewhere that theses gonna be a combination of different rides, like one would go to endor, hoth, tatooine, like star tours now says you can go, but really cant, haha
Have you been on Toy Story Mania? I was really bothered by 3D as well until I went on that - they have really improved the technology - and more importantly, gotten over using cheap 3d tricks - in the past few years.
I agree, I think it's probably good to include the prequels (yes the Star Wars fan in me just threw up a little typing that) because kids are more familiar with those three movies, but the originals are -classic-
I really do this is awesome but I can't believe they knocking of the PlayStation 2 Star Wars Racer game from 1999, Disney can do so much better then this! I mean the game is 10 years old, do something new for crying out loud!

All I can say is, it's about damn time. I loved the original Star Tours, but after 22 years, I have to say it's a bit dated. Glad to hear they're ramping up the SFX the way only Disney can.
Could be interesting. Since I heard that the "tours" are generated at random, it will be a different ride every time. Hopefully the ride will include all the space battles from Episodes 4-6.
I just don't get why he focuses way too much on the prequel films which were absolute garbage (with the exception of Revenge Of The Sith).

Goddamnit... why do they have to get rid of everything from the old ride? Why dont they just leave ONE of the motion simulator pods the same while updating the rest, so some people can experience the classic old ride?

Not too entirely set on the new Star Tours. Excellent press release by Disney something Universal wishes they could get down.
the original star tours ride is very very dated. i went on it last year and it just feels out of place compared to other rides. its about time disney revamped it.
the only thing that made it new is the fact it is in 3D. thats it. why cant they make it a real roller coaster. NOW that is something NEW

Yeah its true! My friend works in Disneyland at Star Tours. Check out for the name Justin. Oh yeah and by the way the story is loosely based off Episode V and VI. Only the pod race that is based on Episode I.
