Star Tours Ride Film [Full] (Pre-Disney)

- Опубликовано: 9 мар 2009
- This is the full ride film played on Star Tours at Disneyland Park at the Disneyland Resort, Disney's Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort, Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris.
This is a post production copy of the Star Tours ride film before it was sent to Disney for further visual and sound editing. Two of the most noticible things that confirm this is the bright tint and shade of yellow on the objects that show up on the screen as well as the dialouge in the video is different than what is played on the ride.
Star Tours utilizes a Rediffusion Simulation (Later owned by Thomson-CSF) hydraulic motion base cabin featuring 4 degrees of freedom. The trade name for this simulator is Advanced Technology Leisure Application Simulator, or ATLAS. The Rediffusion 'Leisure' simulator was originally developed for a much simpler show in Canada called "Tour of the Universe", where it featured a single entrance/exit door in the rear of the cabin and a video projector.
The film is front projected onto the screen from a 70mm film projector located beneath the cockpit barrier. George Lucas has mentioned that the next generation of the attraction will feature digital high definition video and motion bases capable of up to 6 degrees of freedom.

You'll never be forgotten Star Tours 1.
Ah yes, the famous golden star destroyer and death star. Lol
I just saw Luke Skywalker destroying the Death Star in front of us
They should have lightspeeded to Endor instead
I was lucky enough to ride it.
And I didn't hear about the change, and so I was so upset when I didnt see this version again.
Never will forget.
This was my absolute favorite Disneyland ride at age 8.
I went on this ride BEFORE ever seeing the movies. This ride made me want to see the movies.
This was first intro to Star Wars.
1990. When it was just 3 movies on VHS.
Same
This is the real STAR WARS to me... nothing more, nothing less....
Sibyl Saint Mine too.
Same thing happened to me
I was like 3
I still love this ride
Yeah me too
That orchestral sting at 3:30, followed by "Red 24, Red 30, follow me".
Chills down my fucking spine.
Same here! It's the best part I watch over and over
Sounds like Pee Wee Herman

This brings back memories of childhood. The smell of sunscreen and tired feet from waiting in long lines. Worth it!
I went my 1st time a few years ago everytime we go we always ride this alot 😀

This absolutely terrified me when I was a kid, it felt so real, and I felt like my parents were punishing me, lol.
Not me, during the trench run I was head banging.
It is legitimate fact that the battle depicted in this film is not the Battle of Yavin, but a later battle between the New Republic and Imperial Remnant at the Third Death Star, which was possibly created using one of the habitation spheres in orbit around Coruscant, or the earlier Death Star Prototype. Since the Empire was so fractured at the time, no one informed the designers of this Death Star regarding the exhaust port, and it was easily exploited once again like at Yavin. How do I know? Because Leland Chee says it's all canon.
You’re right about that. It most definitely *IS* canon. But here’s the *ACTUAL* in-universe story:
This battle, known as the Battle of Death Star III, takes place in the year 4.3 ABY, several months after the Battle of Endor. By this time, the Empire had fragmented into multiple splinter factions led by various warlords. This battle pits one such splinter faction, the Kaarenth Dissension (later known as the Restored Empire), led by Supreme Commander Ennix Devian, up against the Alliance of Free Planets (the successor to the Alliance to Restore the Republic, and the predecessor to the New Republic). The “Death Star” taking part in the battle, was actually a modified Worldcraft made to resemble one of the other Death Stars, and not a true superweapon. The Worldcraft itself was actually stolen from Coruscant by Devian as part of a feint against the new government. Upon learning of the so-called Third Death Star, the Alliance dispatched T-65 X-wings from Red Squadron to destroy it. When the starfighters arrived, they were met with a fleet of 3 _Imperial_-class Star Destroyers and TIE/LN starfighters. Because of this, the surrounding area was restricted to civilians. At some point during the skirmish, a _StarSpeeder 3000_ , ST-45, belonging to the Star Tours travel agency, unintentionally arrived mid-battle after escaping a comet storm. The droid pilot, RX-24, in a calculation error due to inexperience, inadvertently bypassed its destination, Endor (Star Tours attempted to capitalize on the planet by making a touring route known as the Endor Express), completely due to exiting hyperspace too late from their destination. The ship was then caught in one of the Star Destroyer’s tractor beams, thought it did manage to escape thanks to Red Squadron. Afterwards, the ship took damage from a nearby TIE Fighter. Fortunately, the ship was spared from destruction after R2-D2 (who, along with C-3PO were placed on temporary loan for the company while the Alliance fought the Tofs in the Nagai-Tof War) repaired the stabilizer. After allowing the StarSpeeder to take part in the battle, Red Squadron had finally reached its target: a thermal exhaust port, similar to the one found in the first Death Star (which also doomed the superweapon). Just like Luke Skywalker during the Battle of Yavin, the X-wings fired a volley of proton torpedos into the station which caused a chain reaction, destroying the station and killing all hands aboard. The battle resulted in a pyrrhic victory for the Alliance, though despite the win, Devon had successfully raided several Alliance-aligned shipyards and stole several vessels while the Alliance was distracted with the battle. As for the StarSpeeder, it successfully returned to its docking area suffering minor damage. This event, however, was only the beginning of similar incidents that later forced Star Tours to shut down.

The Starspeeder should make a guest appearance in Star Wars Squadrons and as a gag fighter.
I was in tears as soon as I saw the comets and the crystals. It’s such a strong memory in my brain that it just broke me that this is gone.
Those crystals look a LOT like the space crystals in "No Man's Sky"!
1:21 my stomach dropped just watching this scene again. Amazing memories from this ride when I was a kid.

Fun fact: Captain Rex is voiced by Pee-Wee Herman. I wish they did both the original and the new versions
Well, Rex couldn't be used in the new attraction b/c the original ride was his first flight, and the new version takes place before the original (although that doesn't make a lot of sense b/c it's called "The Adventures CONTINUE", but they couldn't do much else).
True, but I'm saying it would be nice if guests at Disney had the option to go with the original Star Tours or the "new" adventure. As in, one line would go one way and another one would go the other. I'm just a sucker for nostalgia; I like the new ones but I miss the old :-)
Yeah, a lot of people say that. I've never been on either, so it doesn't really matter that much to me. I wish I could have been on this one though.
Savannah Stratton You can make the travel to Disneyland Ressort Paris, we still have the original one. Apparently, the new one won't come before 2017; so you have time ;)
Savannah Stratton I wonder why the people at Walt Disney World and at Disneyland didn't think to do it that way instead. keeping both the original ride and the new ride at the same time that is.
Man i miss this amazing ride. It's been few years i haven't been in disneyland since 2009
When that brass section stinger hits, and you hear "Red 24, Red 30, follow me", you get the shivers down your spine, and you know shit's about to get real.
I remember getting major chills as a child at 2:33. The eerie gradual light music that’s building up, the reassurance from Rex not to worry, then the Imperial March explodes into my ears as some ISDs appear in the window screen. Major goosebumps!

I remember seeing this version of star tours when I was like 8 or 5... God I miss it 😔
Much more realistic than the updated version, far superior! And the music! *swoons*
If memory serves the new version is mostly CG, while this is all miniatures. CG is certainly getting good but nothing beats a well made physical model. At least for now.
Agreed
@Whanakin Crywalker Captain Rex is still at Disney, they made him a DJ
I like to thank George Lucas for creating this ride for Star Wars fans of all ages . I’m born in 1995 and I loved it

Wow. This made me tear up. Nostalgia overload.
Ah. memories. Glad to say I had the honor of working this attraction at Disneyland.
I loved this ride when I was young
I'm so glad you re-uploaded this. Thank you!!
Fun times! I went on this ride at Disney World, it was awesome.
30 Years ago. Thank you for sharing this.
It would've been awesome to see this version in 3D. Paying homage to this classic version of Star Tours.
THIS is the Star Tours of my childhood. THANK YOU! What a trip down memory lane!
Ahaha, this is SO cool! I can't believe they use 70mm for this ride, that's so rare.
had a more emotional/invigorating feeling of adv from the 6 mins of this film more so than the combined efforts of force awakens and last jedi
Outside of the Clone Wars, Star Wars died after the 80s lol
They should bring the old ride back in addition to the new ones. I know it would be successful!!! I never had the chance to say goodbye! LOL I think I was 12 years old the last time I went to Disney Land, but Star Tours was one of my favorites!
I miss this
The good old times...
Man, 11 years later and I still miss this ride. I can also still feel the snappy movements and the effects to this very day, even 21 years after.

This one was way better than the new one.
Idon't think the new Star Tours is that bad at all. I like how they had combined all 6 films together into one whole ride.
I loved it. One of the only rides I went on when I was getting over my fear of roller coasters back in 2008 (Or 2007)
THIS is the REAL Star Tours! What Disney has done to it is inexcusable!
At 1:27-1:30, look to the lower right in the launch bay, and you'll see the Mighty Microscope (looks like a ray gun)--which pays homage to the previous attraction where Star Tours is-- "Journey Through Inner Space" (which I'm sure you can find on RUclips in CG form).
Hated it as a kid becasue of how real it felt, but ive grown more used to rides like this so if it were still around i would like it way more
thank you posting this bring great memories as a kid
I loved the 'come back soon' spiel that Threepio gives on this early version. Much more excitable.

I remembered riding this when I was little. Awesome ride
I remember getting so car sick the first time I went on this... but still good memories :D
Great rode this ride at Walt disney studios i was 13 in 1997🎉
This brings back some really bad memories. Got REALLY MOTION SICK on this thing!
You just gotta love practical effects. I went on this back in 2007 and it was still impressive. It looked 90's to me at the time, but now I am floored this was done in 1987!
Ah the good old days.
gives me goosebumps every time
This is one of my fave rides, me and my brother use to get off and get on again 4 times we did this lol, this ride and body wars were me fave rides:)
The guy that voices Rex...none other than Pee-wee Herman himself!
We went to Disneyland for my seventh birthday in 1989 and this was the highlight of the trip.
(Especially given my mom contracting food poisoning from the Hungry Bear Restaurant)
In hindsight it's kind of weird going on a space tour where, after a few accidents and along with everything else that happens, your pilot starts killing people. Like intentionally putting himself in a situation where he has to shoot people.
He is defective, after all.
I like to think maybe it’s R2 doing the shooting..
I can just imagine the Imperial Remnant starting shit, trying to find retribution for the events of Return of the Jedi. And we barely get out with our lives thanks to the Rebels.
Not like now where R2 just immediately opens fire on stormtroopers in the hangar bay, and blows up at least one Imperial ship before even going to lightspeed.
Well, what's the point of having laser cannons on the ship if you're not going to use them?
Ahhh, the good ol' days

this film is officially a memory since yesterday :'( Paris one has closed it's door for the update
In case anyone thinks that the droid captain sounds a lot like Pee-Wee Herman, there's a reason for this: both Pee-Wee Herman and the droid captain were played by Paul Reubens!
Luke Skywalker and R2D2 No Pee-Wee
Wow. Nice upload.
I remember we rode this back in 1994, me and my family first time to disney
RX-24 is returning for the new ride, but it's unknown whether or not Paul Reubens will voice him again.
ah. memories. i miss this ride. i only rode it twice when i was 8 but that was epic. i need to go back.
I remember I was so scared of the drop in the beginning, but it was so worth it with the dogfight at the end
Watching this without the sounds of people in the ride (or the noise of the motion simulator itself), I can appreciate the little details that I never caught while actually riding. My favorite has to be that right before you fly into the comets, Rex legit makes the 'fasten seatbelt' noise play as if you were merely hitting turbulence.

Fun fact: @ 1:29 you can see on the right side a ray gun looking thing. This is the laser that turned it's riders into molecules [I believe the ride was called The world of Molecules or Molecule Man]. George Lucas decided to cameo it because it was the ride that was decommissioned in the same spot Star Tours opened and replaced in Disneyland.

I went on this ride in 1999 and 2005. Both times were magical but I wish I had the same respect I have now for when I experienced it then. 10 in 1999, 16 in 2005, 31 now.
I've been on both and they are both great

thanks for that
I'm glad they are updating it. I went to disneyland about 10 months ago, and love going to this ride but it totally took me out of the fantast when you could see a line in the middle of the screen, it looked like a film scratch or something. With lucas inserting actors who weren't even born in 1983, and his prequels, at least he could digitalize this or something. I hope he does, make it the same but on digital film.
