Dave Lee Down Under mentioned that the die-hard fans did love it when it first came out, only to start hating it as the months go by. Same thing happened to them with TFA.
From the description of the video of her spiel which Yesterworld incorporated (see the links in their description above), it says "The actress' name is Stephanie Taylor, a piece of information provided to EndorExpress.net's Brian Curran by Walt Disney Imagineering." If I recall correctly, the website EndorExpress.net did locate her, though her last name was now different and she'd become a doctor since this little acting gig. They reached out to her through a couple of email addresses, but she declined to participate in an interview, a choice which they respected.
My favorite ride. I miss the original version so much! My family went the summer it opened. I was five and had never seen Star Wars...I became obsessed with the ride, so my dad introduced me to the films and a Star Wars fan was born. Thanks, Star Tours!
I became obsessed with Star Wars and especially Boba Fett (who I pronounced "Bobba Fett" at the time), just round Episode 2. So my mom and dad introduced me to the films when they aired on free TV. TPM also aired. I still remember my reaction to Vader being Luke's father... "NO WAY!! THIS IS AWESOME!!"
I'll never forget the first time I rode Star Tours on 4th of July back in 87. Waited more than 4 1/2 hours in line for it. One of the most memorable ride experiences of my life, and 8 years later I rode The Indiana Jones Adventure in June of 95. The two most incredible ride experiences I've ever had.
Yo the nostalgia here hit me so hard. I was lucky enough to experience both versions of the ride growing up, I remember my first time going on the rebooted version when they say “oh, there’s a Rebel spy on board” and they pick someone in the audience, usually a kid. Well I was the kid they chose, and man it was one of the most magical things I’ve ever experienced. Always loved this ride, both before and after the reboot.
I remember going on the last days of the classic Hollywood studios ride with my dad. It almost feels bittersweet that I got to do this just weeks before the renovation. Toy Story 3 represented the end of my childhood, This (and the Harry Potter ride with it's mountains of hype) represented an all new journey ahead, and The Scott Pilgrim movie represented my start as a teenager. I only bring all this up because you sometimes only get to experience things ONCE, and the sentimental ride on Star Tours after seeing it in a VHS I once had many hears before 2010 (the time it was ready to close) feels bitter sweet and this video made it all the more special.
I was Rebel Spy on Star Tours 2: The Adventures Continue in May 2019. How awesome was that? This ride rules! I 💕 it! PLEASE keep these historical theme park ride videos coming.

@@TheGrayMysterious luscas literally says that "jar-jar is the key to the whole movie." Its hilarious how many "yes men" he surrounded himself with on the prequels.
Darth Jar-Jar would have actually been pretty epic, considering his bungling ways woudl have been an easy cover to his true designs... and his inexplicable replacement, Count Dookoo (or whatever) as awesome as his actor was, seemed out of place and contrived, even more so than jar-jar, had he been actually able to fulfill his original role, despite being to many a very much hated character... imagine the impact of that had he been actually instrumental in the rise of the Sith... the hatred woudl have been genuine (story wise anyways) sigh, alas, though it is only speculation not he part of many, i think it woudl have been an interesting way to go. as for the ride, i remember the original version very well. and having just goes to Disney World in january, quite enjoyed the new version as well...
They should bring the original ride show back during the next SW Galactic nights at HS. The last one they did was last summer. Showing the original would definitely bring in a lot of guests
It's interesting to see that even some of the basic sequencing from TAC would end up recycled into still newer iterations, with Kylo Ren ending up doing much of Vader's opening sequence before launch. The more things change...
I was lucky enough in my 2003 visit to ride this. It was my favourite ride in MGM. Loved it. The Star Wars area really was Star Wars Heaven ...the gigantic AT-AT, the speeder bike you could sit on.. ohhhh. Memories.
I am not a Star Wars person AT ALL, but Star Tours was my favorite attraction growing up. I knew nothing about Star Wars, other than what I knew through osmosis, and little me adored Captain Rex. The only thing that sucks is that I don’t recall ever experiencing the queue. We’d always take the disabled entrance because of my mom (even during our most recent trip we had to use the disabled entrance because of my grandmother), so I’ve never seen the awesome main queue. Maybe someday. But I was sad to see the old Star Tours go, however the new Star Tours was very fun. I still miss Rex, though.
This is one reason I will sometimes opt to stand in the main queue instead of going through disabled entrances or fastpass lines, since you can miss so incredibly much in the process! One good example is Fast Track, in which using the single rider line skips the opportunity to design a car.
Well, I am a Star Wars person, and I liked Star Tours, too. I adored Captain Rex. I had an action figure of him (I actually got him BEFORE I went on the ride, like 4 years before. So when I saw him on the ride, I was like, "HEY, THAT'S WHERE HE COMES FROM!!")
Thanks for this deep dive into what Star Tours used to be! Having only been to the new Star Tours in Disneyland Paris, I am a huge fan of this attraction. It's easily the best simulator I have ever been in, especially with the really good C3PO animatronic. The only thing I would critique about it, would be that the randomly generated scenes of the ride can break your immersion as a Star Wars Fan a bit. It's not always easy to enjoy a hyperspace flight from Episode VII to Episode I, completely changing setting and displayed enemy factions. However, this attraction truly is a masterpiece. The queue is simply amazing and as a Star Wars fan you simply have to fall in love with the entire atmosphere and typical comedy found everywhere.
What I find amusing is that they've set the ride between the Prelogy and the OT, with all the weird quirks and unpopular designs of the Prelogy. Also, it feels like at some point they've completely removed all mentions of the previous movies. I recall C3P0 in Paris to have his red arm from the Postlogy for a while, until they removed it.
Love this video! I still miss Old School Star Tours but I still love Star Tours the Adventure Continues!! I love how the 3D Glasses make all of the Special Effects on the Ride even cooler!! Both versions of Star Tours are awesome!!
I would like to see some discussion about the star tours gift shop at the end of the ride. I believe the original shop at mgm studios was called "Endor Vendors" man I loved that shop!
I remember riding Star Tours when I went to Disney World in 2011, right before Disney bought out Lucasfilm. What I distinctly remember being so confused about was the pilot named Captain Rex. Of course, at the time, Star Wars The Clone Wars was on Cartoon Network and I got this robot confused with Clone Captain Rex from the show. Overall though, being a pre-teen Star Wars fan, I absolutely adored the ride and it was my personal favorite from the park.
Hearing that boarding jingle brings me back. The original concept for the ride was to include multiple destinations but due to technology and budget constraints that never happened. Also interesting to note is that the simulators were the same ones used at Body Wars. While the ride did not change after Episode 1 the cast member costumes did. At the DMGM Studios the exit gift shop also changed from Endor Vendors (which had looked like thr RotJ forest bunker) to Tatooine Traders (which looked like Mos Espa). They also began to have Chewbacca and an unnamed Ewok roam the attraction at this time. Outside the building a new stage was built next to the queue line that did a short Jedi Academy show in which kids were trained to use a lightsaber and confront Darth Vader.
As someone who first rode the ride back in 2013, I'd love for a screening of the original film in some way with its full 70MM quality. The closest thing we have now is the recently added Crait scene since, no joke, Rian Johnson based the scene of the ships flying through the crystalline underbelly of the planet in TLJ ON the asteroid scene in the original Star Tours.
Star Tours is probably gonna not last long and will be rethemed. It's pointless having it if you can pilot the millennium falcon in one of the Star Wars attractions when it opens.
I was actually going thru all the channels videos yesterday searching for the Star Tours video. Since you had mentioned making one in that past video and had recently released the Indy video, I figured (logically) that the Star Tours video had to have been already released, right? Thank you for making this. I learned a great deal about this attraction I was not aware of despite previously learning a great deal more than the average park guest or Star Wars fan. Your channel is one of my absolute favorites on RUclips. Thank you for this amazing channel! It really is without peer and I truly hope you are able to continue making such quality content for a long time.
Another Disneyland memory unearthed from this channel! I was lucky enough to ride the original Star Tours the year before they closed and thought it kicked ass. When I went back to Disney a couple years ago, I knew something was off about the ride but I couldn't place my finger on it, I just thought it was faulty memory or something. I think the original Star Tours is probably one of Disney's best attractions and would love for an alternate version of it. Just have C-3PO act in the Captain Rex role, Anthony Daniels always seems to be down to voice that bucket of bolts.
The concrete company my mom worked for supplied the materials for building Star Tours. So she and a few other coworkers got to ride it a few weeks before anyone else. 20+ years later it became my favorite ride.
I was born in 2000 but this was one of the things that got me into Star Wars altogether. I first went to Disneyland in 2005 and rode the original Star Tours until it closed in 2010 (I remember my final flight to Endor). The Adventures Continue is cool and they even added segments from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.
Oh man. I took this ride for the first time when I was 4. It was far to high of a sensory overload for my ADHD kid brain that I freaked out, closed my eyes, and held onto my aunt's neck the whole time. She had to go through the whole ride sideways with a toddler clinging to her. (I was on a toddler leash the entire time at Disneyland.) However, in 2000, I rode it again and had the time of my life. :D I LOVED IT! I am a sci-fi nerd, I've always loved Star Wars, and now I'm writing my first sci-fi/fantasy novel. I think back on this ride with fondness and use what I remember to write the space chase scenes. :) Good times. Perhaps bringing a 4 year old onto this ride wasn't my parents' brightest decision. But when I asked them why a long time ago, they said I begged them because I wanted to live the adventure like Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, C3-PO, and R2. Moral of the story: Don't listen to 4 year olds.
I got into Star Wars because all my friends would talk about it, and because of the Phantom Menace hype when I was 3 years old, ESPECIALLY the Lego ads. I thought Darth Maul was badass.
The more I see videos about Walt Disney World and abandoned rides makes me yearn to go to Walt Disney World so bad. I have never been there and never could afford to go. I love all things Disney and cherish all the videos people have made about Disney World. I can't get enough. I also love all things Star Wars. So I find this a great video. Thanks for making it. Now you got me more in love with all things Disney.
I was young when they closed the original Star Tours Down but I remember it thoroughly. I am always fascinated when my parents talk to me about old Disney Rides that have been updated or changed. Now someday I’ll be able to talk to mine about the old Star Tours!
That moment when you escape the ice-stroid field and see a Star Destroyer is that “oh shit” moment that sticks with you. Especially since The Empire’s theme kicks in right as the vehicle gets caught in the tractor beam.
18:11 Man you got me! It's been years since I've been to Disney World, so I thought that could've been true. If it were, I'd have thrown my laptop at the wall.
I worked on this attraction 1997-1998 at MGM Studios Orlando. So much fun, we would have lunch & breaks hidden in the Ewok Forrest trees above the cue, in the control room with the Mon Calamari AND even inside the Star speeder 2000! I’ve so many stories about the fun had working there, I can honestly say that I was in reality part of the Star Wars Galaxy .....though still waiting for my toy figure to come out 🤔 lol
0:43 Captain America's America?! Oh my god.... You can't be serious...... The Carousal of Progress is incredible! You can't replace that with anything!
I have a weirdly distinct memory from when I was 4, and at Disney World with my family, I genuinely thought you get getting transported somewhere because of the Endor Express screens. I figured it out pretty quick, but it made my first time riding it something special.
I absolutely love Star Tours, it was definitely my favourite thing the first time I went to a Disney park. I felt like I'd stepped into the film. In Disneyland Paris they kept the original version much later, it's only recently been updated. I miss Rex but it's cool that we can still see him in the queue. I have a rather large collection of Star Tours toys & collectibles from around the world including quite a few Star Speeder 1000 & 3000 models, Rex figures, and am the Ltd edition Pins. I just love it so m uch. I wish there was some way to get a high quality version of the original film - like out as an extra in a Star Wars Blu-Ray or something. As far as I know there is no version online other than camcorder footage.
I have a few Rex figures, too! Here's a fact: I got the RX-24 figure released in the Power of the Jedi line 4 years before I went to Walt Disney World for the first time. When I found out that RX-24 came from the ride, I was surprised.
I've always wondered, is the "Ease off on your thruster" line a joke about the fact that we're not actually in a tractor beam, but merely accidentally flying towards the Star Destroyer?
my favorite ride. i went on it in 1997. Managed to get multiple rides as the queues weren't so long. That light speed is smthg i have always remembered. u did feel like you were in hyper speed. I was 17 at the time. Happy Days. :)
I still remember stepping out of the original and hearing John Williams' 'Yoda's Theme' while seeing posters on the wall for visiting Bespin. This was before prequels, before the Disney films, back when there were just three classic films.
I was the very last person to enjoy star tour from Disney Land Paris (I did the very last ride of the attraction after they had closed it !) ! They even showed me backstage on how it looked and everything 🤩 This attraction is one of my favorite part of my childhood and I will never forget it 😉
Agree, just from watching this here, I believe the old effects more than the new ones. Everything looks too polished, too plastic, and too perfectly lit. It's believable faults and textures that make something feel immersive, and you get more of that with practical effects.
Really begs the question of just how big the budget was for the post-PT refurb as well as the post-Force Awakens. Back when the ride was first being built, Disney spared no expense. Clearly that did not happen a second time.
Bahahahaha! I love that you used footage from the cold war comedy "Spies like us." That was also one of the funniest scenes in the movie. My father broke down laughing when they got in the g-force simulator.

Thank you for such a kind comment, so glad you enjoyed it!
Now all that's left is the "How Michael Eisner saved/destroyed the Magic Kingdom" video!
In all seriousness, this was a fun video.
9:59 that sound alone yoinked me back all the way to 2006
That news footage from those die-hard fans waiting to see the Phantom Menace... That was painful.
Dave Lee Down Under mentioned that the die-hard fans did love it when it first came out, only to start hating it as the months go by. Same thing happened to them with TFA.
To be honest, I loved it when I first saw it, but I was around 11...over the years my eyes have been opened.
@@raphaelmarquez9650 I saw when I was 5, I was bored by it.
Than you just wait for the new Star Wars theme part made by disney! You gona wish that one back I absolutly guarantee it!
Phantom Menace was the first movie I ever saw in a theater, and it's still my favorite SW movie. I will defend the hell out of it.
Am I the only one who is curious about who the woman in the original safety video really was and why she couldn't be found?
Juichi I loved her hairstyle
Wait what?

Wait in line for the next line
The fact that they didn’t call it Star Tours Episode 2 is such a missed opportunity
Robert Nove Ssssh, rich people aren't as creative as us!
That sound at 9:59 brings me so much nostalgia and happiness
I was Rebel Spy on Star Tours 2: The Adventures Continue in May 2019. How awesome was that? This ride rules! I 💕 it! PLEASE keep these historical theme park ride videos coming.
I was the spy a few months later. I got Jakku and Geonosis.
2/10, didn't use Lord Farquad's face for Eisner
Darn it! I will 200% keep this is mind, mark my words, you will see Eisner as Lord Farquad eventually...
Katzenberg deserved to be fired though! So I agree with Eisner's decision to give him the boot
David Jensen agreed he’s always had this egotistical arrogance in practically every dreamworks interview I’ve seen that is something I completely agree with Eisner doing
@@quietdemon8138 Katzenberg was the reason why Robin Williams refused to return for The Return of Jafar.
Robin agreed to do the role of the Genie in Aladdin for a few thousand dollars (which was far far less than what his normal salary was at the time) as long as they didn't mention that he was going to be the voice of the Genie and they didn't use Genie as the central focus of the Marketing campaign. That way his kids would be surprised that their dad did a Disney movie when he took them to it. But as I am sure that you already know Katzenberg did the exact opposite and instead made sure that EVERYONE knew that Robin Williams was going to be starring in the new Disney Animated feature
Thanks for the credit on the boarding video clip used! Even before I spotted my name in the lower left corner, I recognized my own handheld footage. It's very nice to know you found my archive worth using. Keep up the great work. Oh, and I'm also one of the editors at EndorExpress.net, so on behalf of the crew there, another thanks for the shout out in the description.
By the way, I am not entirely sure if a couple of your clips of Rex were the original voice. They sounded like someone doing an impression.
Star Tours was my first ever simulator. I got dizzy the first time but now I can ride back to back simulators without even taking dramamine.
We went when I was a teenager in 1987. After waiting in line for 20 minutes or so, I’ll never forget the ominous sign that said “Ride is 3 hours from this point”. 😮
20:24 Yes Jar Jar is there, but is that Stan Lee pushing him? It looks a lot like him.
I didn’t realize how much I missed the original version until watching this.
“A special effect without a story is a pretty boring thing”
-George Lucas, the king of proving this point the hard way
Dude... the DVD special features for episode one have so many cringe worthy moments from George Lucas... some comedy gold in them.
Well, he TRIED to put a story in the prequels... it's a messy, hammy, overdramatic and silly story, but I guess it IS a story.
@@TheGrayMysterious Yeah. Tho not as good as the sequels, the prequels are still pretty damn good
@@TheGrayMysterious luscas literally says that "jar-jar is the key to the whole movie." Its hilarious how many "yes men" he surrounded himself with on the prequels.

Fancy meeting you here 🤖
They should bring the original ride show back during the next SW Galactic nights at HS. The last one they did was last summer. Showing the original would definitely bring in a lot of guests
It's interesting to see that even some of the basic sequencing from TAC would end up recycled into still newer iterations, with Kylo Ren ending up doing much of Vader's opening sequence before launch. The more things change...
You joke, but you just spoke Captain America’s Carousel of America into existence.
All I can see now is Chris Evans singing "There's a great big beautiful tomorrowwwwww...." on that rotating stage.
I was lucky enough in my 2003 visit to ride this. It was my favourite ride in MGM. Loved it. The Star Wars area really was Star Wars Heaven ...the gigantic AT-AT, the speeder bike you could sit on.. ohhhh. Memories.
Man I miss OG Star Tours!
Oh, Rex, how I miss thee for your misfortunate but lovable characteristics. That little guys holds a special place in my heart.
That little chime at 10:00 hit me hard in the feels
Same
Thanks for this deep dive into what Star Tours used to be!
If a fan of the attraction, would recommend you look up the previous attraction "Tour of the Universe"!
@@kevinw729 thanks Kevin, will do!
This ride held up for so long because the live action footage was so good
Lucas without beard...how strange.
It’s actually the third Death Star, made with the Empire’s last funds
Love this video! I still miss Old School Star Tours but I still love Star Tours the Adventure Continues!! I love how the 3D Glasses make all of the Special Effects on the Ride even cooler!! Both versions of Star Tours are awesome!!
I would like to see some discussion about the star tours gift shop at the end of the ride. I believe the original shop at mgm studios was called "Endor Vendors" man I loved that shop!
Bret Phelan That place was changed to another STAR WARS themed gift shop!
It's called Tattooine traders now in Florida.
I remember both!
I remember adoring this ride as a kid. I wanted to ride this thing over and over when we were at the park. Ahh, memories.
I don’t know if I ever went on the original Star Tours, but that’s why I got Yesterworld. Great vid

Wasn't that the show where the little girl wanted to join the Dark Side and kneeled before Vader?
I both like and loathe the new Star Tours. I like all the details and sequences, but I loathe it taking away the classic Star Tours
They should give you the option or make it a random selection on which "tour" you get to take.
I guess it's because it would look jarring next to all the other new ride films with CGI. But I think doing it as a special event would be neat.
Star Tours is probably gonna not last long and will be rethemed. It's pointless having it if you can pilot the millennium falcon in one of the Star Wars attractions when it opens.
@@bigredjanie I didn't even see the crait scene at hollywood studios when i went 3 weeks ago
Thank you for your kind words, these kind of comments really mean a lot to read and am so glad you find what I do worthy of such praise!
I always loved bursting through that ice comet. This is a fantastic little piece of nostalgia. 💙
The concrete company my mom worked for supplied the materials for building Star Tours. So she and a few other coworkers got to ride it a few weeks before anyone else. 20+ years later it became my favorite ride.
I am living for that jab at modern star wars movies. Bless u.
This was my favorite ride as a kid
The opening day stage show- all I could think of was Star Wars Holiday Special II. LOL
I thought of FunTime from the Origami Yoda series.
I like the new narrator, but always good to hear your voice too.
You remind me of my buddy kyle who lives in Orlando. Lmao
1996 here -- TPM hype got me into Star Wars. Especially the Lego ads.
Oh man. I took this ride for the first time when I was 4. It was far to high of a sensory overload for my ADHD kid brain that I freaked out, closed my eyes, and held onto my aunt's neck the whole time. She had to go through the whole ride sideways with a toddler clinging to her. (I was on a toddler leash the entire time at Disneyland.)
However, in 2000, I rode it again and had the time of my life.
My aunt was a secretary for Disney Imagineering and was good friends with the guy at 13:25 😊✨
I was young when they closed the original Star Tours Down but I remember it thoroughly.
Oh PLEASE do share your stories! I LOVE hearing Cast Member stories and tidbits, they're always so fascinating!

@@YuukiTakemoto1996 That must have been really cool to see him "in real life" after owning the figure :)
I've always wondered, is the "Ease off on your thruster" line a joke about the fact that we're not actually in a tractor beam, but merely accidentally flying towards the Star Destroyer?
Dude I wish we could have had this. I mean there was no reason the new Star tours couldn't have included this storyline as well.

I still remember stepping out of the original and hearing John Williams' 'Yoda's Theme' while seeing posters on the wall for visiting Bespin. This was before prequels, before the Disney films, back when there were just three classic films.

The use of models, practical effects and actual film was a billion times more effective than the CGI in the new ride. I miss the old ride.
@@SirBlackReeds this-it feels cheaper somehow: watered down. Even the queue us nowhere near as charming as the original.
