Couple of trivia things about the ride: a) the droids you see of C3P0 and R2 where the exact same ones used in the movies. b) You'll notice a conveyor belt in the ride near the end of the line, if you look closely you'll see parts marked GE (General Electric), those parts are from an old ride taken down from disneyland, you may see some parts from it. c) The 2 droids that talk to you near the end are actually exoskeletons of Goose from an old ride. Check their feet out (they're webbed).
Very nice video. Made me feel like I was there. When your standing in line and being rushed, you don't always get to see or hear everything. Videos like this are helpful.
I know how you feel. That's funny, I went on the same ride just like you when I was a kid. You're not alone. I still have the pins in my black shadow box located above the computer desk in my bedroom.
As many times as i've been on this ride, I still feel like it's my first time, such a great ride. And when the new one comes out, i'm sure it'll be great as well. Also, word has it that there is going to be 3-5 different types of rides, one of course being that pod race one, and others being hoth and etc. Can't wait! :D
I think it would have been nice for fans of the older star tours to include the option to ride this version too, but in 3d. I'm not sure if you were thinking the same thing, but I agree with you.
My favorite rides in Disneyland are Star Tours, Space Mountain, Indiana Jones Adventure, Thunder Mountain, The Matterhorn Mountain, and Pirates of the Caribbean.
@sumbuddyx Supposedly the comets are a throwback to the Adventure thru Inner Space attraction that occupied that space before Star Tours. Also, in the maintenance bay, look for the Mighty Microscope from the same attraction jutting out from behind a control room.
It sure would be nice if the rumors come true and Star Tours gets a new movie. That would really help the ride so much. A day at Disneyland is a great idea. It is something I want to do but I am in the middle of so many edits that I just dont have time right now. Maybe later in the year. Thanks for the compliments!
I get tingles just watching the doors open up to board, just like the first time I rode it on my seventh birthday back in '89...I'm going to miss hearing "This is Captain Rex from the cockpit."
It is being updated. Imagineers announced the new destination of hoth. It's suppose to come out in October 2008 but Disney's reliability is low. They plan to keep the endor express on 2 of the 4 simulators at star tours.
Disneyland in Anaheim had the first one, it opened in 87. The second one opened in Tokyo Disneyland a couple of years later. MGM Studios in Orlando was the third one, and Paris was the fourth and final.
This video is from Disneyland CA and our Star Tours is in Tomorrowland. You are correct, the one in Florida is at Disney Studios (formerly called MGM.) - - RU
Neat trick... it had a soft opening for two weeks in December of 1986 and the official opening in January 1987. But, if you knew someone who worked in Imagineering, it was in development and occasionally tested for over two years.
I like disneyland and disney stuff i remember going on this eide at disneyland i really liked it thanks for putting this on youtube. I'd like to go back to disneyland florida and do the same things that i did.
I've about to captured this classic version of this ride, on my Westgate DVDs camera in Monday 2009. During my mother's birthday, and Ithen Disney's Califronia Adventure at Wednesday. Then return back home at San Diego, California on Thursday. And it was my only hope to catch the 1987 Star Wars ride on my camera, before closed on 2010 for the making of the Star Tours II in 2011!
It's about time we got a new Star Wars ride, I have been waiting 22 years. God, it just seem so outdated in the 2000 decade. I hope it will be on HD screens this time. And the pilot actually goes to the destination and not miss it.
Actually, Star Tours is set after Return of the Jedi. During the queue, C-3PO mentions the Ewoks being impressed with his magic. And if it were the BoY or the BoE, then R2-D2 is in two places at the same time. That's the THIRD Death Star. And if you notice, it blows up just from torpedoes impacting on the surface, so apparently by the time they built the third one, the Empire was REALLY cutting corners.
Pretty cool ride. They're coming out with a new Star Wars related ride called Star Tours 2. It will be based on the Pod Racers from episode 1 and it will feature Hayden Christenson (Anakin Skywalker).
I liked the OLDER version of this ride BETTER than the NEW version, because it was nice to hear Paul Reubens do the voice of Captain Rex. He took a break in the NEW version of the ride which is Star Tours 2️⃣: The Adventures Continue. I love this ride even though it needed a change. Everyone needs a change now and then. Rafiki always says, "Ah, change is good". It's so sad that Robert Guillaume passed away. No wonder he was good at doing the voice of the talking mandrill shaman from The 🦁 King. 👍🏻 if you agree with my comment about my favorite Disneyland ride which is based on ⭐ Wars.
@mrcoolicool007, actually she can be seen in the new queue video for the updated Star Tours. Right when the kid turns around and takes a picture, she's sitting on his left.
actually they're not removing this ride, they're just adding the podrace simulator to another section of Disneyland. I've discussed this with several tomorrowland ride operators
Interesting fact: Star Tours was originally planned to be based on the 1979 film The Black Hole, which guests would choose their own car route. However, due to the negative reception of the film and ginourmus costs for the ride, plans were shelved. Disney later made plans with George Lucas for a somewhat less expensive attraction based on much more popular material. Who knows what how Star Tours would have looked like if the Black Hole plans weren`t shelved.
i am a huge star wars fan and i absolutely love this ride... i was happy that i knew the names of the droids and the different planets. I told my teacher that i was a starwars fan and he said i was a nerd and asked me if i liked dragons and dungeons, harry potter, and lord of the rings. he is mean...:(
Disneyland also has Star Tours and it is indeed in Tomorrowland. You are correct that WDW also has Star Tours and it is located at Disney Studios (formerly called MGM) - RU
Don't get me wrong i love the old and new Star Tours.... But i wish they had a vitrual ride through of Adventure Thru Inner Space on one of the simulators.
Thanks for taping this. Paul Reubens doing the robot pilot voice = awesome. Can you believe that they got rid of Captain EO, though? I miss So Cal because of sentimental stuff like this.
i love this ride. when i went with my friends to disneyland, we just ate dinner and we wanted to go on space mtn. but we mite throw up so we thought this ride was calm but woah were we wrong (: but i loved it
In "Star Tours" queue area, guest can hear the announcement: "Mr. Egroeg Sacul, please see the Star Tours agent at the gate 3" Egreoeg Sacul is George Lucas spelled Backwards
@rescuehero942 , did they change thier minds when to close the ride.. I thought I had read they were closeing the ride in Oct 2010...I must have read wrong ...oh well...it was a good ride , but can't wait to see the new one.
I rode on this ride last night at Disney's Hollywood studios over in Olando FL. The park was open on Grad Nite nd the place didn't closed down till 2AM.
I was there after visiting a Star Wars convention in Los Angeles. The first ride was okay but the second time you take the ride gets boring. It is cool for some kids and adults. I was there in May 28.
no, splash opened in 1989, america sings opened in 1974... and closed in 1988... all the crocs and birds on splash mountain were from america sings... i heard the robots from star tours will be reused for star tours 2
Compared to the more extreme rides of today, the feeling of falling and zooming forward is a little mild, but still loads of fun! I'll tell you a secret to making rides like this type of ride more fun: don't let your feet touch the floor during the ride. It'll make all the drops and movements feel greater.
@ru42 I guess you weren't able to ride this one as many times to do your usual great job at editing everything. Its tough with the line pushing you to move, but thanks for the peek. I'm going to miss this ride. Unfortunately video can't catch the action you feel moving in your seat.
This ride is awsome, the reason the lady on the screen has wierd hair is because your in star wars universe, thats like saying, "that twi'lek has a wierd head" rofl, good vid :D.
Does the Star Tours ride move - yes. Does it have lateral movement (forward/backward propulsion) - no. The ride is on a hydrolic system, the car can tilt in all directions but no actual lateral movement. The feeling of lateral movement comes from trick of the mind because of the tilting and film. - - RU
The end of another Disneyland classic...January 9, 1987-July 27, 2010. And i was honored to have flown to and from endor 100+ times :)
Very nice video. Made me feel like I was there. When your standing in line and being rushed, you don't always get to see or hear everything. Videos like this are helpful.
I LOVED this ride.
I must've gone on it seven times in a row =)
ru42, i LOVE your videos! This one, along with the others, have great quality and show a lot of the details of the ride. Thanks!
I been on this ride before. It was awesome and my favorite ride! Thanks for that vid.
I love this version of the ride, and I miss it!! The new one was pretty fun, but I think they should have included this as one of the ride options...
i love the little robot that was driving the star tours so cute ^^
I love this ride so much! And I also found the Mighty Microscope from the ATIS, which was there before this (7:48, past the tower)
One of my favorite rides.
this is my favorite ride @ Hollywood Studios
Star ⭐️ Tours is a motion simulator thrill ride that records a movie 🎥 film 🎞️ at Disneyland in Anaheim, California.
took me back to my early days, thanks for the upload
i want to cry!!! this has been my favorite ride since i was little!
Can't wait! :D
omg i love this ride i can memorise the whole thing!
You know how Disney is; they NEVER let us down; I bet this new one will be spectacular. Nevertheless, I'm going to miss the old one very much.
I've never been on this ride. Haven't been to Disneyland since '81.
This looks great!
For a first timer, I'm sure it'll be awesome!
I think it would have been nice for fans of the older star tours to include the option to ride this version too, but in 3d. I'm not sure if you were thinking the same thing, but I agree with you.
To me, it's still a classic and I love it!
I loved this old version. It was amazing
omg i love this ride! its so fun wen ur in the front!
During the first two minutes, I think I see Ackbar up in the control room!
Indeed you do
hahh.
it was amazing.
even when you closed your eyes you felt it.
IM SO LUCKY I WENT HERE JUST BEFORE THEY STARTED THE CHANGE. The last time I went there was Aug. 2010 in Florida.
@DCFilmsStudio i also heard that it will have 54 experienses
No. you sit in a special room with special seats that move with picture. it feels real. i love this ride!
i love how the voice of rex the robot is peewee herman XD
WHY ARE THEY CHANGING THIS RIDE?!?!? it's so great the way it is!!!
They're changing it, because everyone gets tired of seeing the same scenes over and over again. I'm glad you asked.
My favorite rides in Disneyland are Star Tours, Space Mountain, Indiana Jones Adventure, Thunder Mountain, The Matterhorn Mountain, and Pirates of the Caribbean.
Man i love how disneyland and star wars are mixed together! its soo awesome!
Love this ride so much, hope Star Tours 2 is just as good!
I love That Effin Ride!!!
@sumbuddyx Supposedly the comets are a throwback to the Adventure thru Inner Space attraction that occupied that space before Star Tours. Also, in the maintenance bay, look for the Mighty Microscope from the same attraction jutting out from behind a control room.

A day at Disneyland is a great idea. It is something I want to do but I am in the middle of so many edits that I just dont have time right now. Maybe later in the year.
Thanks for the compliments!
If it was different movies each time, that would be AWESOME! I'd love to see that
I get tingles just watching the doors open up to board, just like the first time I rode it on my seventh birthday back in '89...I'm going to miss hearing "This is Captain Rex from the cockpit."
Great video! Gotta go back to Disneyland! This is the best ride ever!
It is being updated. Imagineers announced the new destination of hoth. It's suppose to come out in October 2008 but Disney's reliability is low. They plan to keep the endor express on 2 of the 4 simulators at star tours.
Star Tours real have a new concept . 3D ride to Tatorie for the Pod Races and to Corestat . Both opens in May 2011 . Check it out .
Disneyland in Anaheim had the first one, it opened in 87. The second one opened in Tokyo Disneyland a couple of years later. MGM Studios in Orlando was the third one, and Paris was the fourth and final.
I'm miss this, I will come back!!!

"Gasp!" Ludicrous Speed, but sir we never gone faster before.
LOL
@MonorailVideos Good i love that ride
Neat trick... it had a soft opening for two weeks in December of 1986 and the official opening in January 1987. But, if you knew someone who worked in Imagineering, it was in development and occasionally tested for over two years.
Thank God. I have been going on this ride since before I can remember and it is high tide for a new destination.
I like disneyland and disney stuff i remember going on this eide at disneyland i really liked it thanks for putting this on youtube. I'd like to go back to disneyland florida and do the same things that i did.
Yo estuve ahí en mi adolescencia: ¡Vaya viaje! Que la fuerza los acompañe.....
Indeed
At first, i was really nervous to go on this, but after the rise was over, i thought "Again! Again!" I loved light speed, i can take it anyday. =D
I've about to captured this classic version of this ride, on my Westgate DVDs camera in Monday 2009. During my mother's birthday, and Ithen Disney's Califronia Adventure at Wednesday. I get goosebumps every time the ride jumps to Lightspeed.

Change happens
Oh this is one my FAV rides! ive been on it twice las year! wen i went on it i was like STAR WARS!!!!!
I hate to admit this, but the first time I rode this, I cried; it was that good :-) The best ride at Disneyland! mz
I wonder what the new one will look like.
@mrcoolicool007, actually she can be seen in the new queue video for the updated Star Tours. Right when the kid turns around and takes a picture, she's sitting on his left.
Thank you
im going to miss this classic version of this ride, but will be interested to see what they bring us..

@rextony22 She's not there anymore, but that has no bearing on how the new version is; it was GREAT!
i am a huge star wars fan and i absolutely love this ride... i was happy that i knew the names of the droids and the different planets. Thanks for the video RU, I'm going to Disney in a couple of weeks!
@Countjustinrowe 2 of the geese in America Sings were taken out of the America Sings attraction and used to make the long-necked robots in Star Tours.
Don't get me wrong i love the old and new Star Tours.... But i wish they had a vitrual ride through of Adventure Thru Inner Space on one of the simulators.
Now that would be interesting
that takes me back to the '80s when I went there and Star Wars had a bit more dignity than it does today
Thanks for taping this. Paul Reubens doing the robot pilot voice = awesome. Can you believe that they got rid of Captain EO, though? I miss So Cal because of sentimental stuff like this.
i love this ride. when i went with my friends to disneyland, we just ate dinner and we wanted to go on space mtn. but we mite throw up so we thought this ride was calm but woah were we wrong (: but i loved it
favorite ride hands down
BEST RIDE EVERR!!!!! love disneyland! im going on the 24th!!!!!! yay me!!
How they are making the new one sounds very exciting, but it is gonna suck real bad that they will not keep this classic ride along with the new one.
8:19 - 8:53
MAGNIFICATION....MAGNIFICATION....
I say that every time at that part.
In "Star Tours" queue area, guest can hear the announcement: "Mr. Egroeg Sacul, please see the Star Tours agent at the gate 3"

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh ok I see it. Thanks!! We were searching that lady's hair the whole video!! haha
I think on the new Star Tours, there should be 6 rides for the new star tours and 6 rides for the old star tours but refurbished
That would be nice
@ru42 I guess you weren't able to ride this one as many times to do your usual great job at editing everything. Its tough with the line pushing you to move, but thanks for the peek. I'm going to miss this ride. Unfortunately video can't catch the action you feel moving in your seat.

I hope they don't get rid of star tours... I want to go on it one more time atleast!
That's interesting the Black Hole uh? I remember a similar ride that sort of resembled a black hole theme ride back in the day.
that robot has sort term memory loss, he keeps on thinking this is his first flight. haha. jk. i love this ride.
Awesome ride! I LUV IT!!
it's still open? wow, I haven't been to disneyland in YEARS...but, I'm going TOMORROW!!!!
Rest in peace, to Paul Reubens, the voice behind Captain Rex.
i remember doing this when i was younger and really into star wars. i felt like an expert. i was all like, "i wanna go to hoth instead!"
@Hottelio120 - um, I'm not dead yet. LOL. Just the way you wrote it makes it sound like RU42 is RIP and not the ride.
i LOVE this ride.
