D23 members and guests were invited after hours on September 7, 2010 to ride Star Tours for its final flight to Endor (or not) before it "powers down" to get remade into Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, reopening in 2011 in 3D.
Stormtroopers from the 501st Legion escorted guests to and from the attraction, even riding in the Starspeeder 3000.
I remember seeing this ride for the first time on a Disney Sing-Along video as a kid and being completely blown away by what I saw of it.
Tearing up right now, my childhood memories suddenly came back to me...

Damnit, I missed this ride...
We arrived at Disneyland just as it was getting refurbished into Star Tours 2. Absolutely gutted! Didn't even get to ride either of them!

this almsot makes me cry cause when i was little this ride made me feel like i was part of star wars and i would be like whispering to my self come on r2d2 we can do it!!
Funny thing is, in the actual canon this WAS the last flight before they went Chapter 7.
I wasn't there that day. I wish I was. I would be able to tell everyone even the stormtroopers about I feel about being it's final flight. I miss this version. I hope I will ride on Star Tours 2 someday. Until then May The Force Be With You.

I loved this ride. I also miss it. I still believe that when we are in tracker beam by the Empire we see a Rebel pilot on the small screen on the right.
The Classic rides are disappearing alot in Walt Disney World, but I hope Disneyland didn't close some Classic rides in the future.

This is awesome, how come disneyland couldn't get storm troopers for their last flight to Endor? I was there the last night star tours was open and we didnt have anything as cool as that!

@ztslovebird Well they got to remake the set a bit... repainting... A little rebuilding (replacing captain Rex with C-3PO, or so i heard, then they got to reprogram the WHOLE RIDE... then rebuild the set more, train the cast members... Then Release partys then done.
I would like to respond to Dragonrider, however and ask him: do you honestly feel that the new ride is more realistic than the previous? My feeling is that the CGI in the new ride made it feel like a play station video game, the 3D is unnecessary--and unimpressive, and the fact that they replaced Rex (the original pilot from Star Tours) with 3CPO just plain doesn’t make sense ... . . . Furthermore, the actual simulator movements seemed a lot less realistic to me, and the plot/s of each of the different versions of the ride are a lot cheesier. Overall, the quality of the new version of this ride, I feel, has been significantly diminished-as has my respect for Disney (sadly).
After reading some of the posts below I want to make sure that I didn't offend anyone who likes the new version of this ride--or the new movies. Everyone is entitled to an opinion ... (continued below)

It made me tear up a bit when the cast member said "Last flight to endor" :(
I think they should have just extended the building and put the new Star Tours ride with the old one instead of just getting rid of it :(
i hope they do something like this for the great movie ride that ride deserves a proper sendoff after 28 years of movie magic

question: will they be building the star tours 2 at disneyworld? basically, are they just saying goodbye to the old star tours before they open the new one? i think i'm going to disneyworld this summer and would love to know the answer :D
It didn't close. It got refurbished and updated. Because quite frankly, as awesome as it is, the ride was starting to look a little dated

Thats because the actor voicing the robot is Paul Reubens who created the persona of Pee Wee Herman
When final flight goes wrong
I miss this ride SO FREAKING MUCH! The new one is alright but it just flat out sucks in comparison. The idea is nice but no combination feels as fun as this classic, the 3-D CGI effects don't look anywhere near as good as the ILM effects here. Not to mention, the new one has too many continuity errors to count!

AWESOME!!!! BTW, will the Star Tours ride be done by summer 2011? 'Cause, technically speaking, the ride is only a video and a moving simulator. Shouldn't take more than a few months to change the videos for the simulators, the moving programs for the simulators, maybe a new script for the driver, and do some test-runs to make sure it won't crash or something. And as long as the videos are already done, I don't see why it should take more than 6 months.
My last flight was the BEST! Everyone was screaming, laughing, putting their hands up, o it was a party Ship! They made the trip let me tell ya! I can't WAIT for the new version! :)

You could tell this ride was old but that was part of the charm behind it. Everytime they change these things they remove another part of my childhood. Thumbs up if you don't like change!
I really wish that I could have been a D23 member when they did the last flight at Disneyland. I was there the last day the ride was open and I would have loved to have done this :(

I sure do miss the original version of the Star Tours ride, but I still like the current version because so much more was added to it over the past decade of the 2010s and I like how all 9 films had been combined into one whole ride, even though some of the destinations are separate.
I wish the people who runs the Disneyland park in Anahiem, California and the Disney Hollywood Studios park at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida would still have a bunch of guys dressed up as First Order Stormtroopers as people go in and exit the ride.

@TheAirborn Yeah, but it still shouldn't take all THAT long if they already have the video and the programs for the simulators done. Be kind of silly to close the ride if they haven't even started on the animation for the on-ride videos yet. Not to mention cruel to all the Disney/Star Wars fans.

I love the old one but the new one keeps my interest since I don't know which place I'll be going to next. I went on it twice last week and it was a blast! The old one will always have a place in my heart but you should ride the new one and give it a chance..you may never know who you may find while walking through the line!

I love this ride, and DisneyWorld, Star Tours is the bomb, and this ride makes memories forever, i will always remember that i went on this ride as a kid.
Awesome video! I was there that night, except, working… I crossed Hollywood Blvd. and ran into a herd of Stormtroopers and a few Star Tours stragglers snapping pictures of the empty park. I was surprised, to say the least :) I'm gonna miss old school Star Tours, and look forward to what the future holds. Keep moving forward, right?

My parents and I went to all the Disney parks in Florida in February of 2010, and we made sure to go on this particular ride. I will always remember Disney World for the moments it brought into my life, especially the ones I will never forget.

I hated this ride I almost threw up, not enjoyable
It says you have to be free of motion sickness on the ride! I rode it recently and it was great! I rode the new one and it was perfectly fine! Just don’t go on it!
