4K - Private Car Switching in Downtown San Diego Featuring Amtrak Veterans Unit

Headed Downtown this past Saturday for the day, and found out that 2 Private Cars were heading here to San Diego for a VIP Charter Event. The Tioga Pass and Silver Splendor were the 2 cars, and were to come down on Surfliner train #566, and return back north on train #583 that same afternoon. Upon hearing this, I figured it would be a good opportunity to watch the unique switching operations required to separate the private cars from the rest of the revenue consist.
Amtrak #566 is first seen passing by the Palm Street (Middletown) crossing, with P42DC #122 on point and Amtrak Veterans NPCU #90208 shoving the low level set. Coupled up to 90208, was Amtrak 464 and the 2 private cars on the rear. Now in Downtown, the set is pulled forward to the south side of the station. Here, Amtrak crew members uncouple the consist from the private car consist which will sit in San Diego on Track #3 for the afternoon.
Later that afternoon, Amtrak #572 is seen arriving into the Santa Fe Depot with P42DC #171 in charge of the train. 572's set will become train 583's set which will take the private car train back north. P42DC #171 shortly couples up to the private car set, and after a few air tests leaves heading back up to Los Angeles. I then went back up to Middletown to see train #583 go past.
