4K: The Return of Train Horns in Downtown San Diego on 7/30/17

- Before I say anything - yes this is footage from 2017 and not from the past! Last Sunday, I heard over the radio that there was a 6.32.2 in effect in Downtown San Diego, at the 3 main crossings around the Santa Fe Depot. Upon hearing this news, I raced Downtown and was treated with a K5LA symphony that took me back in time to the pre quiet zone days! For those of you who aren't familiar, back in 2012 San Diego became an official quiet zone in the Downtown portion of the city. 12 crossings between Laurel Street and 5th Avenue were "upgraded" throughout 2011 and 2012, meaning trains no longer need to normally blow their horns throughout Downtown San Diego. However, if an emergency or abnormal situation is deemed or seen by the engineer or by dispatch, then horn use is allowed. This exact situation happened this past Sunday.
The 3 crossings at Ash Street, Beech Street, and Cedar Street had crossing malfunctions this particular day, which caused for a horn alley symphony that one particular afternoon. I caught various Amtrak and Coaster trains at all 3 of these crossings, and it just sounded amazing once again to hear horns in downtown San Diego echoing between the Downtown skyscrapers. Most of the engineers as well weren't too shy to make some noise which is of course well appreciated!
I stayed from around 3 PM to 7 PM, also caught the Del Mar Block consist doing its switch work around CP Ash, and coupling to 580's set. It then departed on 591 Northbound towards Los Angeles shortly after.
The last clip shows Amtrak #579 departing the historic Santa Fe Depot back on July 22nd, with the 6.32.2 in effect at Ash Street only. Not as much horn as the previous few clips, but still noteworthy to include!

The K5LA’s must have been amazing in downtown San Diego. Hearing the echo was awesome as it traveled throughout the city.

Nice! Horns in a quiet zone, I love it! Brings me memories of riding the Pacific Surfliner from Irvine to San Diego in 2011, when we got off and on, I heard so many horns, it was amazing!

They silenced train horns in lakeland florida and someone got hit but survived. They should bring back the horns before someone is killed. What idiots.

but I hurd some dome people who live in this town are complaining about the whstle horn actions because they don't like haw it can be disturbing and they don't like haw some night trains can wake theme up like the polar express night train

My question is how do young people afford to live in those condos? If you look at the young people up on the balcony to the top left when 3002 is passing, they have front row seats to horn shows in these rare occasions. I want to know how to afford to live there.
