Evening Rush Hour at Los Angeles Union Station - Endless Metrolink & Amtrak Trains

  • In the begining of November, I hopped aboard Metrolink and headed up to the Los Angeles area for the day. Towards the end of the day, around 2 hours before my train departed, I hung around Union Station for some rush hour Metrolink and Amtrak trains. During the 2 hours I was there, over 20 trains arrived and departed from the 13 tracks that Union Station offers.
    Usually refered to as the "last of the great railway stations" built in the United States, Union Station still stands after 77 years. Opened to the public on May 3, 1939, this place sure has seen many trains and changes over the years. In its heyday, passenger service was provided by the Santa Fe Railway, Southern Pacific Railroad, Union Pacific Railroad, as well as the Pacific Electric Railway and Los Angeles Railway.
    Today Metrolink, Metro Rail, and various local and long distance Amtrak trains call Union Station home. Destinations can be as close as Glendale, as far as Chicago, or anywhere inbetween.
    Caught typical Metrolink and Amtrak action there, including RBRX 18520 and RBRX 18522 on different Metrolink trains. BNSF and Metrolink's PTC test train was also parked on the far east tracks of the station, waiting for the evening rush hour to end. Busy place to be at this time of day, that's for sure!

    I always came to LAX Union Station to catch the gold line up to Azusa and back. Then i catch the Antelope Line up to Lancaster, California and back. Rode over to Fullerton, California on the Metrolink Orange Line, The Riverside Line to Riverside California, The San Bernardino Line to San Bernardino, The Ventura Line to Chatsworth, California. Foothill Transit to Montclair wherever i wanted to go.

      I take the gold. Purple. Blue. Etc.
      but never took the metro link or Amtrak. I want to go from union station to norco California. Do I need the regular metro ticket I’d use on the gold line. Or does the metro link to norco or the riverside rail line metro, require my actual ID and or more paperwork?

    Its not a busy station. Most trains sit in platorms up to an hpur in advance until its thier time to depart. SB line and Amtrak Surfliner are the more popular routes during rush hour.

    • @Geotpf
      @Geotpf 4 года назад +4

      Easily the most busy station west of the Mississippi. Biggest too, with 12 standard train tracks, 2 for the Gold Line light rail (it can be seen in this video at times), and 2 subway tracks for the Red and Purple Lines under ground.

      That engine is owned by LETX, and is a leaser from GOT. LETX didn't repaint it, as most leasers don't to save money. LETX 18533 has another scheme as it was repossessed from MI Train when they failed.

    Y r not wires, electricity at most of american railways? I m frustrated, because the usa is a modern country! A modern country almost without railway overwires! Only 2 lines, New York-Philadelphia, n Chicago-Michigan-lines have electricity! Why?

    • @Geotpf
      @Geotpf 4 года назад +2

      This isn't entirely true; many cities have electrical powered light or heavy rails (including the Gold Line light rail seen in this video). But for standard railways, most run on tracks that are mainly used by diesel freight railroads. Caltrain in Northern California is being electrified currently.
      Also, trains, until recently, were kind of an afterthought compared to private cars, buses, and airplanes in much of the United States.
