I saw Steve a few weeks back with Joe Satriani. An amazing show! My audiologist would have been so disappointed I didn't wear hearing protection. Oh well. Truly loved the show.

My very first exposure to Steve Vai was back in 1986 senior year of high school. It was The Attitude Song......I was blown away. Next level, crazy playing, innovative. And all these years later....My God...this guy is doing things...techniques nobody can claim but him, and he's perfected these seemingly impossible techniques. He's so innovative +++. Overtly physical over the top bold guitar playing is what I have always preferred. 2 different genres, but I confine my guitar tastes to Steve Vai and Stevie Ray Vaughan almost exclusively. These 2 are the very best. I need nothing else.

Mr. Vai is one of the best. The use of the violins is fantastic. How did Bach and Mozart do what they did? The imagination is a powerful thing. Thanks for the vid. ☮💜🎶

I'm glad because I had the chance to see Steve Vai live a few years ago… He has the spirit and the essence of emotions. First time I see this version, it's amazing how these 3 respond to each other.

Great reaction, as always. Steve Vai (rhymes with "eye") has been called "your favorite guitarist's favorite guitarist". I've been fortunate enough to see him in concert eight times, chat with him a little, and even play with him and his band at one of his Vai Academy guitar "camps" a few years ago. In this performance, that's Dave Weiner on the other guitar, Jeremy Colson on drums, and Bryan Beller on bass. The violinists weren't a part of his regular band, but were invited to join him on this tour. I would have to look up their names on the DVD.
Here's a bit of a long story for whose who care to read it, but it gives a bit of insight into the other magic that is Steve Vai. When you jam with him at camp, you step on stage and he smiles at you as if to say, "welcome to my garage. What do you want to play?" And then you can just start playing and they will all very quickly follow you. Steve invites you to improvise a solo first so he can assess how well you can play. Then he plays a little solo, then you, then him. And if you're not making a complete train wreck of it, he nods his head. That means it's time to improvise together. Then he does something so surreptitiously I didn't even realize what had happened until I stepped off stage. He pushed me to a higher level of playing than I thought I was capable of. It's been five years and I've never come back down. Still gives me goose bumps to watch and hear him play.
    Thank you for that.

Trying to put it into words, well, I believe Miles Davis , though i am not 100% sure it was him (but thats besides the point) , put it quite nicely when in an interview he was asked to explain his music. He said if i could explain it to you i wouldn't have to play it

Steve's guitar is equipped with a "Floyd Rose" whammy bar, like Eddie Van Halen and many other "shredders" which allows the player to play a note then bend it way up or do a dive bomb drop, and still have the guitar remain in tune afterward. It allows for some different expressions than just the regular blues based guitars we're used to in rock.

Interesting fact - Devin Townsend's big break was singing on Steve Vai's album Sex & Religion in 1993. There are vids you can react to.
Fast forward to now and they start work TODAY on their first collaboration since called The Moth.

When you explained how you felt about Vai being "colorful" as opposed to rating his abilities....good for you. Louis Armstrong said that there is only two kinds of music, good or bad and if you like it, how can it be bad?

Vai has the chops but chops in itself is not enough. Vai's compositions are so musical, lyrical. beautiful that instead of the virtuosity taking precedent his extraordinary ability complements the tunes. If ya'll know what I'm trying to say.

Unfortunately, I seem to be unable to do that.... I live in Belgium, and haven't got a credit card. Just wanted to mention that;) sorry, and kind greetings....keep up the greatness

For one of the BEST GUITAR MOMENTS in movie history stars Steve Vai with Ralph Maccio (Ry Cooter is really playing most of his part for him) in a guitar duel at the CROSSROADS for their souls. Steve plays the "evil" guitarist . ruclips.net/video/tXfZtlAPUNc/видео.htmlsi=Wlu7dLbkz1nxOhhn Here is the link to see the whole 10 minute scene.
