Believe me, 8 weeks to fix this is very quick, and for 2 reasons: 1): You are in Germany, 2): You have a RUclips channel about Landrover with a lot of followers, and who likes negative publicity? Many owners in the UK have been reporting this dangerous failure for TWO YEARS whilst JLR were sitting on their hands in denial, and refusing to pay for repairs. Great that you caught their attention so fast, it can only help the many others with this issue. ❤
No need to apologize - of course a recall has to be done at the dealer, that goes without saying. To me that doesn’t in any way change how I feel about this channel or all of the effort both of you put in it. Your transparency is exemplary 👍
Good on Landrover for repairing your car , SHAME on Landrover for not issuing a world wide recall on a problem they know of ..A problem on a British Range Rover is no different from a German or any other country they exported these vehicles to ..Any one with one of these vehicle should be mightily grateful to Christen & Vera ..👍👍
@@arjandelaney You didn't pay attention in today's lecture. A crankshaft failure is low on human risk scale. A suspension failure at high speed would result in death. The law suits could deeply harm Land Rover's reputation and bank balance.
You really must get a 2 litre ingenium engined landrover next Christian to help JLR to sort it out,l have the Jaguar f pace with the same engine.lol.Keep up the good work.
Actually I was wondering when they would contact Christian and Vera, because of the potential consequences of a failed knuckle. I stand with Christian on this; well done for Land Rover Germany to take action👍
I'm an MOT tester in England and it doesn't matter what size tyres are fitted providing they match side to side, are fitted according to the tyre manufacturers instructions, are seated on the rim correctly and don't rub or foul the body or any components. I also find that Continental and Michelin are some of the worst tyres for cracking and perishing after a couple of years or so.
Christian “well, he’s got a second hand”. Vera “Oh my God”. I laughed so much. You guys kill me, what a fantastic channel you produce. I look forward to 9 o’clock on Sunday to get my LR Time fix. Keep it up, guys, you do great work.
Have you guys come across Henning Wehn? The german comedy ambassador to the UK....... he's a fantastic comedian but I think he should watch his back - Christian is hot on his heels! The ranty presentation on risk assessment is utterly priceless! Thank you both. Of course, the factual information in the video is as ever brilliant too.
I find it amazing that Land Rover does not inform their worldwide distributors of serious issues such as this, if the UK head office knew about it then one would have assumed that they would have informed the rest of their worldwide network. That being said this is one of the very best RUclips channels, the content is always interesting, well presented and of the very highest quality, I only wish I had the skill and facilities to run and personally look after one of these amazing vehicles.
When my L405 went to the main dealer for a new rear differential under warranty it took them 3 months to do the work! The experience of having work done at main dealers is awful. I do all the servicing myself for this reason now and also means I run it on 5W40. Fully agree with you Christian about what you define ‘professional’ to be.
Dear Christian your Risk Assessment prosecution was just outstanding, thank you very much for letting people a basic knowledge and understanding in regards of own safety. Believe me, in marine shipping industry we are dealing with a risks on daily basis. A risk is manageable process and can safely many lives. Once again thank you very much!
Apart from having my 18 month old grand daughter spending the weekend with us, Sunday morning with Christian and Vera is the best start to the day. Would be great if you could do a second channel concentrating on some of the older land rovers td5 and Freelander 2 for example. So much admiration and respect for you guys, oh and Germans do have a sense of humour this is why so many people watch your channel. Enjoy your Sunday from Richard in Birmingham just round the corner from land rover Solihull
Simply a REALLY IMPORTANT video in dealing with build quality on your cars and how to get safety issues dealt with. Christian is offering his application process to all who need it, very good man.
Christian & Vera - I have been watching your videos for 6 months or more. Your English is so good, so fluid when you are talking to camera or to each other. It was a shock to hear you speaking in German to the dealer. :-). Thanks for the content!
Are you kidding? LRG may have taken it seriously, but JLR as a whole knew about this for a long time and hid it. That should see the top execs put away for a very long time.
Well done Vera & Christian for getting this reported with JLR in Germany. As you say - for this "safety recall" if it has to go to the dealer, it has to go to the dealer. Marking your bolts, cleaning everything up, writing down the mileage is a good shout 👍
A great Episode with everyone benefiting from the exposure of this problem Looking forward to seeing the follow up episode when you check and show us the repairs from Land Rover.
Hi guys I took my Toyota hilux into the dealership closest to me ( 3km ) for a service and hear in Thailand they have a guy or girl waiting outside at a desk they check your car over and point out any scratches or dents before they even start , good luck moving forward with this repair and enjoy your vacation, thanks for your content Regards Davy 🏴🇹🇭
Hi Christian/Vera, your explanation on Risk Assessment was on point. I’m retired now but when I did work in industry I was one of the risk assessors on site. The 1 2 3 points you talked about are of course correct and to come to these conclusions you also need to have all the accident data that has been reported in all of the company accident books. Only then you can come to a true conclusion of likely hood. But and this is very important, once you have finished your risk assessment please take a copy of it before handing it over to your Health and Safety manager, because he will (if he feels like it) alter anything he might not like) These risk assessments have your signature on them and what I mean by this is as it nearly happened to me. One of my RA that had been edited was involved as evidence in a fatality. After (there were two of us that signed this RA) the original RA was produced and we did not need to attend court. I really hope any risk assessor reading this do take copies of your work because if you do not please do so, it’s very important to cover your ass. As you say Christian, do not trust anyone and I have lived my life with this notion. Great content as usual.
Stuff like this makes me really happy that I drive an older Land Rover. Once a vehicle is past the stage where you'd consider taking it back to a main dealer, you can go to specialists who are also enthusiasts of the marque and who's only concern is for the customer and getting the vehicle fixed and back on the road.
You absolutely, smashed it with that illustration. Christian, you should become the international chief council of safety hazard. I just love the fact that you are not just a mechanic, but, a very smart Technician. Job well done. By the way, Vera is becoming an expert in the field after listening to the lecture. Lol.
Don't take YT comments seriously, responding to each dum comment would take hours of video when you get more subs & views. In our days we had to be doubly sure when we have to critique otherwise risk being called out to our face, but with the anonymity of internet and no repercussion of being called out or face embarassement if you are wrong, people just comment brainfarts without any knowledge on the subject matter. Your knowledge and experience shows from your videos, and the fact that no one is perfect and we all continously learn from our mistakes, like the trash bag diagnosis (best video), so just be yourself, be happy, we love your videos, really.
I did a risk assessment once and reported it to the county council. It was a loose concrete slab on the bottom step of a three step stair (from the local park) to a pavement/footway a few feet from a busy road. I nearly came a cropper over it and managed to gain my balance by some miracle and i was livid i can tell you. It took me about five or ten seconds to determine that it was a three three on a simple risk scale that i knew and was trained on at the time, but not as good as your example. For example high probability that some elderly person would stand on it and upon loosing their balance would fall heavily on to the pavement probably breaking their wrist or arm in the process and maybe even fall or stagger into oncoming traffic if they didn’t regain their balance quick enough. So i gave it the maximum of three on the scale (high possibility of injury) and another three of (high possibility of it happening ) . I went straight to the reception at the local council which fortunately was only about a five minute walk away and gave them the story. They coned and taped off the offending side of the stairs next morning with a sign . I know because i checked up on it so they were pretty good and full marks to them. A one/one was negligible risk of injury and negligible risk of it happening. Two /two was somewhere in between. So very easy to do for anything you come across, thats for a “reasonable person” of course, as defined by Lord Diplock in one of his cases, DPP v Camplin 1978 i believe. Just want to edit this post to say that a “reasonable Person” if you are interested has been described as “An ordinary person of either sex,not exceptionally excitable or pugnacious but possessed of such powers of self control as everyone is entitled to expect that his fellow citizens will exercise in society as it is today”.
Good morning Vera and Christian! Great news on LR's approach to your L405 case. I hope you will get the Queen back shortly. And by coincidence, I know the dealership where your Queen is. I mean I was there last Friday :) Greetings from Poland/Switzerland!
Good morning and love the videos. I am from India and I can confirm that what you said about safety and factories are largely true. But it iss changing for the good. ❤
Thank you for this video. I had watched your last video and have been in touch with. Transport Canada. I’ve had my knuckles replaced sent them to Transport Canada. It’s being investigated. Thank you very much!
Monday afternoon and now I finally get to see your video! Yesterday evening came back from the Blackforest today the A5 is in the workshop I don't know the problem but is sounds expensive 😂😂, really if you have a LR 3 or 4 it's really quite an easy car to fix yourself😎 with the help from such great producers as these two👍🏻 looking 4ward 2 next weeks video!
I was once involved in oil filter inspections on Lycoming and Continental aircraft engines. Take a hacksaw blade and cut the paper circumferentially, top and bottom. You can then pull the paper free and lay it out flat on the bench, it makes inspection so much easier and more thorough. Be sure to recognise lumps of carbon as harmless - you can crush them with your fingers.
Hello Christian, Hello Vera, Yes, risk assessment a fundamental component for an engineering business to consider. This can take a while. Having agreed the need to replace (and pay for) failed components plus labour, the next hurdle is whether a revised component design is required. Yes, it is a fatigue fracture to a safety critical component. I am looking forward to your next video instalment, and hope to see a revised knuckle design as part of the repair package. You both have a wry sense of humour - So nice from strait laced Germany.
Great news on getting the issues recognised for what it is and repaired! As for risk assessments ......... in my work we had to do dynamic risk assessments where conditions are constantly changing. Nightmare!
Great video, you guys definitely have the sense humour.I applaud you for all information, explanations brilliant news for you .Keeping us all entertained best wishes Nick.
A great summary on "risk". Although I'm retired, your detailed explanation made me think I was almost back at work. I'm so glad I don't have to think that way now lol 😆
Hi Christian and Vera, I had a steering knuckle joint snao while out on the road, managed to get the car to the side of the road, luckliy I was only going at around 30 miles per hour. long story short Landrover said there is no safty concern in the UK, we fixed it our self. still a very worriing occurance.
@@Vera_and_Christian after reading the comments I have found out there is a recall now, this knuckle failure happened over two years ago. I think your youtube content is second to none.
Christian & Vera thanks to your RUclips Channel LR Time, I checked all four corners of my Ranger Rover Velar P400e SE. Thankfully all's good, but fantastic that you guys picked up on it. Such brilliant content, extremely professional videos. Keep up the good work. Greetings from the West Highlands, Scotland
Enjoyed this video and content. I think it’s a miracle that a corporate organisation bothered to contact you. Most of these companies don’t give a toss about their customers and are run by not very nice people whose only concern is to look after themselves. Good luck with this saga and for helping to shine a light on yet another Land Rover design achievement. Land Rover IMO prove the argument that a fool and his money are soon parted. There, your subscribers can attack me and give you some well earned respite. You are great people with a very good channel. I would be long gone if that wasn’t the case. Thank you from Little Britain.
Excellent video (as usual), I really like the factual, comical and sarcastic presentation. You booth appear to work together very well. Your channel almost makes me want to buy a LR ! . Keep it up :)
Wow, this episode was as interesting as the Tdv6 engine analysis you did a year or so ago. In terms of the unpleasant experience of visiting a LR dealer workshop goes (for knowledgeable enthusiasts/home mechanics at least) it's exactly the same here in France. Visited one for the first time in many years the other day - was told I'd have to wait 2 months for a repair appointment and that the 60A suspension fuse I needed was not in stock but could be ordered on a 5 day delay. I got the fuse elsewhere same day and with no specialist nearby and no local garage willing to touch things like the air suspension it's not surprising I end up doing most jobs myself - you have no choice!! LRTIME is a great technical help as well as entertaining! Bravo.
This is fantastic and your dedication to get this recognised in Germany is wunderbar, I’m used to Risk Assessments and you explained from a motor manufacture view point perfect. I have the issue LR are saying mine is not in recall even though it’s 2015, DVSA not interested so as I’ve had to have it replaced in workshop. I’m taking LR to small claims court so they can prove mine is different to a one manufactured and fitted to a model three months earlier! They seem to be in a pickle over this, they should be honest and just replace with the danger risk.
10:56 It is good JLR have responded to you , I have the same vehicle here in UK (2016) and have visible crack but JLR said my vin is not on their list and won’t issue a recall for my one . Now I have to pay out of my pocket to fix the car
Really enjoyed my weekly fix with LR Time hosted by the fabulous Vera and Christian...e very informative video, as it always is every week. Thank you Both for your energy and enthusiasm for the Land Rover brand, I also own one and yes it has issues, from time to time just as any car does, but is a pleasure to drive short or extremely long journey's. Very comfortable and capable vehicles
A great effort and service to the public to bring this safety hazard to the forefront. Missing is the answer to the question are, there records of this issue leading to serious accidents? I'm not expecting C&V to have that information.
To put into context how dangerous this crack is, in the UK, we have the British version of the TUF, called the MOT. If any suspension part is faulty or broken, even an anti roll bar, you cannot fix it by welding it, it must be replaced. One of your best videos, I even understood about half of the German conversation! Christian, when you lay your wheels down as you do, turn them around so the shiny side is up to prevent damage showing. Sorry, Saxon blood in me. I am worse than you sometimes.
JLR Holland is going to check my 2015 L405 after I send them pictures of my cracked front knuckles. (I made pictures of a dye crack test on my vehicle)The costs however of the investigation are primarily for me, but if they are convinced that it is a serious problem they wil pay me back and repair the car. Many thanks Christian and Vera for all the information on this item.
Although I am not an owner of any Land Rover vehicle. I own a VW Golf TDI and I am in Canada. I like the approach you took to identify the defect and it is applicable to all vehicles regardless of manufacturer. Good work .👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Well done Vera & Christian for bringing this issue to Land Rover and also top marks for Land Rover for fixing your knuckles 🤣 Loved this video xx🏴
Then, after the risk assessment, they get the accountant in and cost to check the recall cost against death and injury claims. Lowest price wins, probably?
I am really looking forward to part 2, when you assess the work following the repairs! “It’s not that I don’t trust anyone, but I don’t trust anyone” is my favourite line. Let’s hope, for their sake, the LR technicians follow this channel and perform the work to an appropriate standard to pass the LR Time test! 😂
12:31 and I assume a technical service bulletin would follow after listing this issue in Germany? Would be very interested to see if the superseding part is the same part number AND supplier or a new part number with a stronger design and what the design change is.
Thank you for your interesting recall lesson on Risk Assessment. I am retired but I was used to compile risk assessments charts for every bid (at least to or three times a week). If you were our assessor, maybe many of those beurocratic meetings would end very soon with no space to useless discussions with accounts and non technical people... Anyway, I don't think here in Italy the MCTC Motorizzazione Civile - the government agency entitled of transportation safety - would accept a private initiating a safety claim process. And pretty sure that no producer would accept a full warranty covered intervention in a used car with 160.000 km. The least they could accept would be a significant customer participation. if not a full charge repair... Thank you again for your amazing videos.
Love my L405 but it’s a 2017, but I’ve checked and looks good. Personally I’ll never take her to JLR point A, 200£ an hour compared to my local specialist 80£ hr. B, last time I took a Range Rover to JLR MD, they spent over 2hrs not to find the issue. Took it to my specialist found the issue in 15mins. C, I like to do some repairs and services myself. Keep up the good work and thanks for what you do
Love content involving the queen. My little advice for you is don’t waste your time and energy responding to dumb comments but use it for entertainment purposes for the channel.
Given the serious nature of your issue, that was a really quick and great result. So pleased for you and also for others who should follow your lead. 👍Can you imagine how good it would be if the snapping cranks on D4s could be considered a safety issue too🤔
Just think if we would have been on board from the beginning.😅With Christians experience and very diplomatic negotiations in the automotive world, he would have made that recall happen😅👍🙋♀️
Your explanation how the warranty process works was enlightening, I thought the laws of precedent would have been sufficient given the sheer numbers recalled in the UK, well done.
Nice work both of you, I hope the recall or testing of the suspension parts is now adopted by Land Rover but in any case, let's hope no one has an accident because of this problem, that is known to Land Rover and I'm surprised that, once they issued a recall in the Uk, they didn't think to pass this information to all international dealers.
I love this channel and you are very intelligent person not only do you know what you are doing. You are capable of fixing it all yourself. I have a range Rover evoque Which I love driving and I repair myself as well as service I know range rovers have things that go wrong but so do a lot of other cars. I have a Ford transit look how many problems for have with transit and fiestas
I have a problem here, Christian. At least 10 times in this video I wanted to agree and cheer you on with a "like"! Problem is RUclips only allows me to do that once per video and that's clearly not enough! We need more options, RUclips!!!!
Wow, congratulations on winning your case. 👍🎉 I'm not surprised it's such a painful process. Great video! You had me laughing so many times, I can't even begin to start posting quotes. Great job.
Well done glad you got it recognised and they are fixing , good to see your point re the system ! Sad about the tyres but you got it covered 😊 enjoy your short trip cheers guys
Well done Christian and Vera! A first victory for all the other broken or potentially broken top knuckles on all the Germanic Queens! By the way my 2008 L322 4.2 supercharged had as standard 255 55 19 tyres on it, but it was an uprated Overfinch model with 22" wheels which were shod with 285 35 ZR 22 so 3 cm wider than standard but with a lower aspect ratio, and that is not a problem here in the UK as far as the vehicle MOT test is concerned ( the equivalent to your Tuv (f) ? Inspection

Hello Christian, Hello Vera,
Yes, risk assessment a fundamental component for an engineering business to consider.
Nightmare!
Nice work, thanks Vera and Kristian for the hard work, and keeping positive, despite the desktop mechanics!!!
That sucks, because there is a recall in place in the UK. 😳🫣🙋♀️
@@Vera_and_Christian after reading the comments I have found out there is a recall now, this knuckle failure happened over two years ago.
I think your youtube content is second to none.
Great video ! Glad you got the resolution you were hoping for. And great work to Vera for biking 25km home 😤
Great video. I can’t wait to see the review of the red paint. I am a bit behind watching videos following a holiday!
Oh man I just found this channel and what a treat it is😂
Top work Christian and Vera, as always. Great video
Bravo.
👌👍💪🙋♀️
Great news that LR are fixing it for you. It is bad that you have to instigate the recall process though. Great work and content as usual.
👍👌🙋♀️

It is good JLR have responded to you , I have the same vehicle here in UK (2016) and have visible crack but JLR said my vin is not on their list and won’t issue a recall for my one .
Great Video, you two are fantastic , I love the sarcasm and witty delivery. 😂.
Never too much the mention of how good and important - and entertaining, mind you - your work and videos are!
Wow. What an effort.
Have you also contacted your department of transportation, safety department? Hope you can convince them. 👍👌🙋♀️
I also give a shout out to Land Rover👍👌🙋♀️
Christian, those tires are fine.. Here in the USA you can get that size option on the petrol version supercharged
Thanks
Then, after the risk assessment, they get the accountant in and cost to check the recall cost against death and injury claims. Lowest price wins, probably?
I am really looking forward to part 2, when you assess the work following the repairs!
“It’s not that I don’t trust anyone, but I don’t trust anyone” is my favourite line.
Let’s hope, for their sake, the LR technicians follow this channel and perform the work to an appropriate standard to pass the LR Time test! 😂
This video is part two. Next one will be part three. Thanks for watching. Christian
@@Vera_and_Christian Ah yes, my mistake! I guess I failed the LR Time test…… 🥺
Your channel is just the best. Love you lots.
Keep up the good work and thanks for what you do
200 is crazy. Christian
What a great and informative Video, great work both, look forward to the next one.😃
You guys are amazing , period! Instead of long replay to You, just saying God Bless You Vera & Christian.
🤗🙏🙋♀️
LR Time, saving Rovers and lives, one vehicle at a time.
You guys are great love the channel, ex supplier to Land Rover for suspension and roll control systems
Great video guys. A great outcome so far. Really looking forwards to another update. We hope you enjoy/enjoyed your trip to the Alps.
Risk assessment was a big part of my working life being involved with explosives. This explanation is brilliant. The risk is nigglybubble in any case!
ANOTHER Great video love Christian sence of humour great, a good channel to watch Best wishes to you both
Love content involving the queen. My little advice for you is don’t waste your time and energy responding to dumb comments but use it for entertainment purposes for the channel.
Great video as usual . Very informative. Showing me all the things I need to look at when buying my LR. Hopefully that will be soon
Good morning LR fans 🏴🏴
I am a fan of Landrover, but they are high maintenance, a bit like the Mrs 😉
Where I am, yes, it is morning. Good morning to you!
Well done guys wonderful news, so happy for you.😊
Given the serious nature of your issue, that was a really quick and great result.
What a great explanation of risk assessment!
Next time I hear someone discuss risk I will instantly picture "Choppy" Choprah feeding his machine 😅
Your explanation how the warranty process works was enlightening, I thought the laws of precedent would have been sufficient given the sheer numbers recalled in the UK, well done.
Great work & a superb outcome on the L405 well done, most of all I’d like to say a big thank you for your channel 👍🏻
👍👌😀🙋♀️
Great video guys and also good news on the “queen” Enjoyed watching. 👍🏼👍🏼
I have a problem here, Christian. At least 10 times in this video I wanted to agree and cheer you on with a "like"! Problem is RUclips only allows me to do that once per video and that's clearly not enough! We need more options, RUclips!!!!
😅🙏💪🙋♀️
Wow, congratulations on winning your case. 👍🎉 I'm not surprised it's such a painful process.
Great video! You had me laughing so many times, I can't even begin to start posting quotes. Great job.
😅👍🙋♀️
Just love your passion around your subjects. No more Risk Assessments though, I retired last year to get away from those😂😂. Love your channel
Lol 😂 👍. Enjoy your retirement.
Yet another sparkling video. Thank you, both!
Iam looking to buy a 405 ( in the UK) anybody have experience in the case this happens.
And to both of you… my fully respect forn what you doing.
Well done glad you got it recognised and they are fixing , good to see your point re the system ! Sad about the tyres but you got it covered 😊 enjoy your short trip cheers guys
I think in Australia we are allowed a 4 percent increase in tyre size with no special certification. Another great video thanks.
Inspection
