Think I will stick to my 62 plate L322, it has only done 87K miles so should be OK for several years yet. It is a must to keep money back for repairs, mine is a tow car, nearly 2 ton caravan and 2.5 ton loaded trailer, in fact I would say that 50% of my miles are towing. Averaged just over 25mpg last year so for a big car and considering how I use it that was not too bad. As for break downs I have only had to replace a windscreen wiper motor, which at £350 was bad enough, all else has been standard wear and tear. Although the high level rear brake light has stopped working and getting into it is a plastic cover off job and I always break the retention clips so not looking forward to that job. Good video though, I suspect as you already intimated this car has been towing heavily loaded horse boxes hence all the wear on the suspension system and breaks. Keep up the good work.

What was the rattle in the end? Were your master mechanic skills on point? Lovely cars. Usually the cheapest Range Rover is the most expensive Range Rover. Glad to see this isn’t one of those.
Obviously what made this car such a bargain was the fact that the previous owner had been willing to spend as much money on it as it needed to keep it running properly. It just needed new tyres and some minor cosmetic work and it was job done which I bet was a refreshing change for you! A lovely car and a great prize for someone - sadly I don't think I could afford the running costs though🙁
I vowed never to buy a JLR product but watching too many of your videos since lockdown……. I bought an L405 V8 Diesel last year. I ABSOLUTELY love it, what a wonderful car to drive. But it has cost a lot to run and has spent a lot of time inside the workshop. A lot of time £££££😮
I remember looking at the L405 when they started to drop under 25k, then I think it was Harry's Garage where he basically said words to the effect of 'this is a 4x4 Bentley, expect to pay maintenance bills with this in mind' and sadly at this point in my life with two expensive kids... for that reason I was out, someday maybe! 😆👍🏻
I know what you mean. A wiser man than I once told me that if I couldn't afford to buy an exotic car new, then I definitely couldn't to afford to run/repair a used one, when everything starts wearing out.

I think the rare leather colour is a real selling point, it gives it a much more exclusive look. The Range Rover Arabica or Espresso (both look the same to my eyes) is the best colour of all from a luxury / wear perspective. Delicious.
The big question with Range Rovers, particularly the newer ones, is ‘does the rear seat fold down flat’ - so you get a flat load space. For instance the Velar doesn’t - crazy I know!!!

Nice Matt! Glad you kept the wheels black, prefer that. I've a bit of an eye....looks like its missing the trim around the rain and high beam assist sensor, reckon that was what was in the glovebox 👍 What alot of car for the money too!!
Quite like this example though I probably would’ve gotten rid of all the things that were blacked out and made it silver, Apart from that I’m pretty impressed.
I had a friend in San Diego had one of these. It would have been an early 2000s model. He said it was an expensive nightmare. He had a factory just across the border in Mexico and had to drive back and forth every day.
There was a program on commercial Dutch TV about the english traffic police and they complained about the Range Rover. The car did not meet the high police standards. Especially the engine often gave problems. They switched to a BMW 5 SUV AND THAT FULFILLED THEIR REQUIREMENTS. Especially the engine was indestructible. Nevertheless, the Range Rover is a beauty. Truly a classic
That car is absolutely stunning, would much prefer yours Matt but in Black with tan interior, but that car is an absolute bargain and it hasn’t been dragged around on bare bones - quite nice to see!
Nice job. Personally i'd have done the wheels in silver & replaced the badges with fiull silver text versions. The murdered out look really doesn't suit these IMO
Well thanks to you, I bought my L494 a few months ago. It’s an AB and even higher miles than this and I do a lot of miles, some might think that’s just recipe for disaster but hasn’t missed a beat and I service my own cars so it didn’t put me off. Please feature more of these on channel. I did find the channel when you released the grey RRS video by the way.
Btw; A common fault with all 405's are door sensors. Alarms going off for no apparent reason & refusal to lock, faults on dash' etc. Dealerships will charge around £180 per sensor or complete mechanism replacement. Don't bother. Simply spray WD40 (or similar product) behind the door catch every 6 months. It acts as a basic contact cleaner. The door seals aren't great & let dust in. You'll notice they freeze shut in winter.
Been looking to buy my first RR and this one looks amazing, can't believe you got it for the price you did. I would be worried about buying at £18.5 k but I'm now going to have a few goes and buy some raffle tickets......thanks Matt.
Matt saw the car on raffle shack and bought a ticket. Then just seen the video had a chuckle to myself. Superb idea and a great car. Plus I would never buy one by love to have one. Lol. Keep the dream alive thank you.
Must. Not. Spend. Life. Savings. On. Raffle. Tickets. But that's a real bargain for a lovely truck. Just shows though how regular servicing etc really prolongs the life of a car. I've been taking your advice with my cheapo L320. Had immediate gearbox service and all other oils and filters etc. Now got her booked for body off. Get everything that can go wrong sorted before it does go wrong. And corrosion proofing. That is a big outlay compared to the original cost of the vehicle. But I'm adopting your approach of just considering the total price. By the end I'll be into her for around £5K; inc the 1700 I paid for her. There are quite a few nice L320s on autotrader for around that price; but they'd still be risky. But this way, for the same price, I end up with a near mint truck that has a good 70,000 miles left on her at least. I will now though be rushing forward the tyre purchase. Never occurred to me what my ill-assorted Chinese Labour Camp Pirelli clones were doing to the diffs.
Absolutely beautiful specimen, perfectly brought back by those tyres and alloys. Great job and ticket bought…love that idea. Please keep up your great vids, quality content and love the frank honesty 😂👍🏻
Wow what a car cant believe its 10 yr old, looks newer then my 2018 evoque with it having all those extras. I actually like the colour of the interior so much better than a plain black panels, dash and seats.

I vowed never to buy a JLR product but watching too many of your videos since lockdown……. I bought an L405 V8 Diesel last year. I ABSOLUTELY love it, what a wonderful car to drive. But it has cost a lot to run and has spent a lot of time inside the workshop. A lot of time £££££😮
Scrap dealers haven't collected the Citroën yet!
Brilliant preparation and honest presentation. Quality allround. I'm getting a ticket tomorrow.
Evoque perhaps?
@@jibbyjabby7499 deffo an option, my father in law has a last of model Freelander 2 HSE
.. I lent it a year or so and loved it. Not 💯 sure a Evoque doesn't feel like the model directed at females. .. if that makes sense. (Everyone I know who has one is female 😆)
Literally a few touch ups, wheel refurb and a good clean and it looks newer than most 1-2 year old cars on the road 😅😍
Good video...enjoyed it..and I'll buy a raffle ticket...but that music when you unveiled the Range Rover after the work was megastrophic!
Mileage dips a bit. But yet car vertical has an ok tick for mileage. 🤷🏻♂️
Can't help but notice the hilarious C4 in the background, opposite end of the spectrum compared to the RR....
I love my L405. 4.4V8 diesel and about as stressful to drive as having a hot bath
I think the rare leather colour is a real selling point, it gives it a much more exclusive look. The Range Rover Arabica or Espresso (both look the same to my eyes) is the best colour of all from a luxury / wear perspective. Delicious.
Great channel mate
You can beat the driving position of a range rover it's called a landcruiser.
Jammy... that's a lovely car matt and you always do your cars proud
good to see some quality kit being worked on rather than 10 year old Corsa's
The big question with Range Rovers, particularly the newer ones, is ‘does the rear seat fold down flat’ - so you get a flat load space.
For instance the Velar doesn’t - crazy I know!!!
Still in shock it's raffled had to buy a ticket, how kind of you to give one of us a chance to own such a well prepared specimen.
Just been over to Prestige Wheels myself this morning for a refurb. Great set of guys.
I am getting my first Land Rove next year. Thanks for all the knowledge
Matt at his finest... In full RANGE mode... LoL, I can literally feel your joy!!! 🤣🤣🤣
showing so a lot of knowledge about everything in it! No doubt that you love these cars... You even forgived the all black!! 😉😉
Mass Air Flow sensor Clean fixed it im gessing it has a MAP sensor in conjunction with a mass air flow sensor as well . Good job on the rest of the work you done 🎉happy spannering and a good new year i hope 🙏 😊
Brown leather is the best colour!! I'd spec that colour if buying new. You know you're a high roller when 18k is cheap! ✋🙂
Haha cheers
When you said you will be taking it to the Mechanics i literally said 3 WEEKS before you did and i wasn't wrong either.
Cheers Mate!
That duel view was so cool, I've never seen that range rover is just great 👍
Nice Matt! Glad you kept the wheels black, prefer that.
I've a bit of an eye....looks like its missing the trim around the rain and high beam assist sensor, reckon that was what was in the glovebox 👍
What alot of car for the money too!!
Yes that’s right. I need to clip that back on
Nice score, Matt.
Guessing the last owner was desperate for money when he sold it to your acquaintance, who then gave you a nice bargain on the price.
Can't beat a good Matt & Rangie vid.
Matt I just wanna say thanks for the great work and wonderful videos you do!
Thank you for watching
noise is parcel shelf, mine had same issue easy fix. love my L405 even though I have spent a lot on it haha nothing like them
Any chance of adding a few raffle tickets??? This is a dream car for many Range Rover fans, hope a few more willl be made available:)
BMW has since stopped supplying police cars to forces across the UK.
That car is absolutely stunning, would much prefer yours Matt but in Black with tan interior, but that car is an absolute bargain and it hasn’t been dragged around on bare bones - quite nice to see!
Matt , is the Range Rover missing a cover over the internal mirror ? - a brilliant video as always . Thank you 😊
Obviously 😉 - what’s missing are the parts in the glovebox 😉
Lovely car. Don’t forget to replace the trim under the rear view mirror to make it perfect!
I will. I forgot all about that
In the past, you've nearly, nearly convinced me that getting one of these would be ok if I spend say £3k less than my budget. Not a chance now! 😁
Great choice! There’s nothing like them
knuckles are where the wheel bearing lives and driveshafts shocks go into
Beautiful. Been well cared for. No tickets left which is a real shame as I’d have loved to have been in the draw.
Gutted to miss out on entering the competition - those tickets must have flown out! Good luck to everyone who entered😊
Plastic around rearview mirror is still missing. Well not missing. It's in the glovebox I believe
Yes I need to clip that back together
Btw; A common fault with all 405's are door sensors. Alarms going off for no apparent reason & refusal to lock, faults on dash' etc.
Dealerships will charge around £180 per sensor or complete mechanism replacement. Don't bother.
Simply spray WD40 (or similar product) behind the door catch every 6 months. It acts as a basic contact cleaner.
The door seals aren't great & let dust in. You'll notice they freeze shut in winter.
For that price I was half expecting you to roll back the sunroof blind and find a crack in the roof glass.
Its a beauty, love the chocolate brown leather it takes the Undertakers edge off it.
Been looking to buy my first RR and this one looks amazing, can't believe you got it for the price you did. I would be worried about buying at £18.5 k but I'm now going to have a few goes and buy some raffle tickets......thanks Matt.
Went to buy my tickets today and they have already sold out, sold out in just 4 days...I'm guttered.
That is a solid bargain for the level of car you're getting. Incredible
If suspension parts often need replacing it's not because "it's a heavy car", but because the manufacturer didn't make them strong / heavy enough.
Lovely example defiantly, previous owner did very well to keep everything maintained :) shame missed out on the raffle!
Matt saw the car on raffle shack and bought a ticket. Then just seen the video had a chuckle to myself. Superb idea and a great car. Plus I would never buy one by love to have one. Lol. Keep the dream alive thank you.
i want someone to love me the way mat loves range rovers
Must. Not. Spend. Life. Savings. On. Raffle.
Alright guys, how's it going? Welcome back!
That’s a good example of rnge roer. For 18-20 quit I’ll get one for myself all day long. Good catch!
Wow what a car cant believe its 10 yr old, looks newer then my 2018 evoque with it having all those extras. I actually like the colour of the interior so much better than a plain black panels, dash and seats.
