This is a year later but I'm so inspired watching this. Thankyou for doing this. I'm not that well currently so enjoying these small projects that can turn into gifts.
After loving hours and hours of your videos and finally getting back to embroidery at the age of 77, this landscape slow stitching one has really spoken to me. I’m someone who has to touch fabric or just stare at it. I’ve just been in my closet looking at things I know I will never wear again and are too out of style to donate. Pieces of them will now come alive in a landscape!
Hi my name is Janet November and I live in Pennsylvania. I am 68 years old and my Mother taught me to embroider when I was 12 years old. I got away from it for a while but I am back at it and loving every moment. This video is a true inspiration. Your work is beautiful. Thank you for sharing all of this with us here on RUclips. My 2 youngest granddaughters 8 - 9 have started to embroider and I am thrilled.
Nice video. To anyone who doesn't have much of a selection of embroidery threads I thought I'd share my tip. My local thrift had a bin of old embroidery kits for 25 and 50 cents each but nothing that looked cute to actually stitch. I bought ten of them and when I got home I took out all the thread and tossed the rest and it gave me a big bowl of thread with nice variety. A few did have some nice fabrics also and I just turn them over and do my designs on the back.
Thank you for an inspirational video again. Not having a stash of fabrics I love the idea of finding children’s clothes to use. On the subject of silk ties my other half has told me I can’t cut up his beautiful Hermes silk tie… he’s such a spoilsport 😉
@@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery I’m going to start with scarves I have that I don’t really wear but are to good or expensive to throw out. Then I’m on to my mom’s closet…heh heh heh
I am so pleased that I have found your channel 😊 Your content is so inspiring and the way you teach is just a pleasure. Thank you and have a wonderful weekend 👋
I bought a book called "Applique Art" which is a similar discipline. The projects are detailed but your ideas are simpler and more achievable. Many thanks.
Your amazing, this channel has brought out an artistic embroidery desire in me. Not looking for a specific stitch. I have wanted to feel more artistic for many years. Thank you for the very calm and thorough videos 🎉 Nam Myoho Renge Kyo ☮️🙏
"Just take a photograph if you want realism" 😆Wonderful! A joy, as ever, seeing your creative process, Sarah, and I hope you had a fantastic trip to the fjords (which always make me think of Slartibartfast!)
What an upcycling QUEEN thank you so much for always guiding me to become more creative using thrifted/worn fabrics 💛 I always appreciate your thoughtfulness and free education on hand embroidery I have learned so much Sarah. Thank you :)
I went to a museum about an hour away from me that had embroidery and sampler pieces from the 1700's and later. Only one piece was from the U.S; the rest were from Europe. There was a gold work piece there that was beautiful. I took lots of pictures. The curator said the museum considers the collection their most prized possession. It is a smaller museum. The landscapes you did are pretty.
@@SarahHomfrayEmbroideryIt was in the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe. It's kind of late tonight, but I'll see if I can get some pictures off my phone to email to you if you want.
Your pieces turned out so pretty. I like how you emphasize that this should be fun, and to just enjoy playing with all the different fabrics. Thank you for another wonderful video. Take care, Arleen
I just discovered your channel and so surly enjoying it. So easy to follow and understand. Give me lots of thoughts of next projects I can start. Look forward to seeing more.
Thanks a lot for your videos! It's a great pleasure to listen to you - I usually listen while doing something else. I've subscribed to your channel. Hello from St Petersburg, Russia. ♥️
Your holiday sounds lovely. Another great place to get varied bits of fabric is to find someone selling sari scraps. I get mine on Etsy, but there must be other places to find them too.
I love it Sarah! Slow stitching is the prescription for stressful project work. I've just frogged out a motif on a project for the third time. Now all I want to do is slow stitch. Off to the charity shops today anyway!
I cannot put into words how much I look forward to, and appreciate your Friday videos, Sarah. They really do inspire so much! Thank you. I've had an idea for a landscape piece from a favorite photo and I've attempted to start it. But it just wasn't coming together right. I think a slow stitch method (if you can call it that) is the answer.
Thank you Sarah, really enjoyed this video and I am glad you enjoyed your holiday. I do hope ginger cat was speaking to you when you returned or are you still in the dog house so to speak. You have had me looking in charity shops the past few weeks with a different focus and I have picked up quite a few bits and bobs lately . There is something satisfying about deconstructing small garments like ties and the satisfaction of finding small pieces of interesting material. I am on leave from work the next 2 weeks and I intend to slow stitch for some of this time so this video was timed beautifully.
Both cats forgave pretty quickly!! I bought a really horrible shaped top in a charity shop and felt I had to explain I was going to cut it up for the fabric!!!
Thank you Sarah! My Dad went through his wardrobe last year and gave me all his ties. They've been sitting in the corner for months now as I wasn't sure what to make with them. A landscape is a great idea 😊
Hi Sarah, it's lovely to see a new video from you after your well deserved break. I'm in the middle of a piece of goldwork with beads and cabochons for a deadline next week (!), so it was great to rest my eyes for a while and enjoy your slow stitching. I think a bit of sorting through old holiday photos, fabrics and threads sounds like a real treat for my next project. Regarding finding odds and ends of fabric if you don't have a stash, I have bought several sample fabric books from a local store that makes curtains and upholstery - they are really glad to get rid of them for a few pounds and I've had some gorgeous fabrics in them.
So glad to hear that you two had a lovely getaway. I look forward to trying some slow stitching soon, and I'm especially glad for your tips about building a stash of fabric and materials...very helpful! Thank you!
Enjoyed watching, am planning on making a wall hanging only larger, I think. Love your channel, so relaxing to listen to and watch, thanks so much for sharing.
Thank you Sarah, glad you both had a nice holiday, sounds like a very inspiring trip, and just love the two lovely landscapes, I've always wanted to see how this kind of thing is done, and once again am in awe and envy of your buttons, beads and trimmings stash - divine little sheep and moose!!. Usually it seems I am the sort of person who to try and 'let go and relax' to stitch something actually causes me to get very stressed instead!, it must be that lack of planning that you've mentioned previously yourself, however having recently worked on the background scene to 'Gerald' the bear, I did find it was extremely liberating to not have a clue how to put something together and just throw stuff at it instead, so your excellent influence and teaching is very much rubbing off, thank you
I like the planning part but sometimes it's very liberating to just throw some fabrics together and stitch really instinctively!!! I challenge you to try a piece! Don't show me up though...🤣x
I really enjoy your videos, and I am going to attempt slow stitching, I just hope that I can get as creative as you in making the fabric pieces into a masterpiece!
I always give you a ‘like’ before I watch because I know I will.
Same 😀

I love what you show me and appreciate all for slow stitching and landscape!!😊
I think slows stitched landscapes would look great sewn onto cloth bags.
