I've embroidered and crochet and knit since I was a very little girl. In sixty five years there is something I adore and it it has never worn off for me. I love the sound of the thread pulling through the fabric and love the little sound of the occasional pop sound when the fabric is tight and the thread pops. Silly I know but it is my little secret treat. I have a cheeky answer when I'm asked what it's going to be for. I confide it's for a gift. What I keep to myself is that it's a gift of joy for me. Thank you darling for adding to the joy.
I laughed when you spoken about people asking you, "But, what are you going to do with it?" I have a friend that asks me that question all the time!! I just tell her that I'm going to "Enjoy" it!!! It's all about the journey, not the outcome!!!!
I wanted to say thank you for giving me the incentive to slow stitch. I lost my dog 4 weeks ago, and slow stitching has been so therapeutic. It's helped to calm me.
Hi Sarah - I just want to let you know how much I enjoy your videos. You always share beautiful things with us and show us how to make them. You are such a talented lady. Thank you so much for all you do. It is appreciated. Hugs! 💕🧵
None of my granddaughters are interested in learning to embroidery, but they like it, so I want to make each a slow- stick book for a keepsake. Using 😂favorite themes & colors.
I first heard of slow stitching during our first lockdown and have been stitching ever since. Your books are adorable and the little one with felt pages might be nice for little samples of lace. Look forward to seeing what developes. Thanks for sharing.
Your fabric stash is so wonderful..l think your lovely little felt page book might be lovely with a flower on each page going through Spring Summer and winter, an idea
Oh, such fun Sarah xx Your lovely voice & enthusiasm sends me off to my craftroom to gather goodies & get stitching xXxX My hairdresser does quilting & gave me a big bag of fabric scraps, after I showed her one of my slow stitched pouches ...... ( she has always thrown the scraps away in the past 😣😣) it was like winning the lottery, just made me sad to think of all the bits that went into landfill ....... but not anymore 😂🤣😂🤣😂Many hours of happy stitching ahead 😍😍Everything you stitch is so lovely xxTFS I have to binge-watch your past vids ...... life & ill health has been getting in my way !!!!!!! Cheers from OZ 🇦🇺😍😍😍😍XXXXXX
I decided to comment again.....I just finished watching the whole video. Your work is so lovely! I especially love the coastal one that tells a story. The story version could be used lots and lots of ways for different people's interests....if a person liked cooking, different pages could include appliques for a person going into an orchard picking apples, going inside peeling the apples, rolling out the dough. Putting the pie in the pan, in the oven, onto a plate to eat. 😋
I love these! I made something similar doing my slow stitching on single layers, and then attaching them to a base of thin batting. The books are squishy and extra-tactile, so I keep them in a bowl on the table and everyone ends up playing with them. My little grandchildren use them for all sorts of things - blankets for their little people, bricks for their roads, or just something to hold while they nap. I also use them as "storybooks" and we make up all sorts of things about what the littles see. BTW: To bind the batting pages, I use the slit/slot method from Kathleen Sundby. She has a cool tutorial!
I love these slow stitch books. The beach huts/sea one is my favourite, the mini ones are cute. I've made a beachy scene fabric book, and a page with a felt seagull with stitching on it. I'd like to make a smaller fabric book though, 5 x 5" , next project
This is a really fun project! I wondered what size your little book pages are since they look very manageable to complete. I don't understand why people think slow stitching has to have a purpose other than creating for the enjoyment of it.
If you need something to do with your slow stitching book it can be an excellent present for a family member or friend with dementia. The tactile nature of these are excellent lap fidgets that help dementia patients to self-sooth. The more texture the better.
Oh my goodness Sarah, all so lovely!! The coastal is gorgeous and I’m heading off to watch your video of the last pink book!! So inspired by your beautiful work, thank you for your lessons ❤
For the felt book pages: I don't know the method but I think you can get photos transferred to fabric. Pictures of Ginger Cat would be so cute slow stitched on each page. A real keepsake, though all your lovely projects are keepsakes!
Oh I love these little books especially your beach hut book, I wonder if you could embroider different bugs/butterflies into your felt book with flowers? Just a thought ☺️
You could embroider or applique shells on the sand coloured pages of that little book Sarah. I've really enjoyed this video and can't wait to make my own books. I want to try each of your methods to see how I get on. Thank you. Love Vera in Northern Ireland ❤
I'd use your little felt book for all the different types of needles I use. Or maybe brooches? I'm intrigued with the third assembly method you shared. Might have to try that out on my next fabric book. 😊
All of your books are absolutely adorable! I like the method of the last book the best. I think it really shows off everything in the best way. Thank you for your inspiring video.
Nice video. I just made a book out of all square slow stitches. I took a long piece of cotton muslin and folded it into book pages and then I sewed all my squares to the pages.
I have really enjoyed this latest video. All the book ideas are so inspiring Sarah. I do rather fall into the category of making something useful with my slow stitch projects. Your ideas will encourage me to make a little book. I am trying to get my 8yr old granddaughter into slow stitching. Hopefully something we can do together.
I love your videos! So creative. For the inside of your little "fat" book Stitches from easiest to hardest might be fun. Thank you for sharing your creativity..
Loving this project Sarah, and as always we are very grateful to you for your lovely tutorials❤ I love the sea book. Your fat little felt book, I would make into a super needle book for all my different types of needles ❤
♥♥♥Sarah, that little Coastal Beach Huts book has grabbed me and won't let go! 🤣That is absolutely delightful and I LOVE how the story unwinds with getting deeper into the ocean. I'm going to use your construction technique to make a book of my own, but this first one will only be a "rainbow" of my favorite fabrics in pink, through red and the rest of the rainbow. I never knew one could make such a sturdy and not floppy book by attaching the pages only to each other (except the first half-page and the last half-page, being also attached to the cover). I can't wait to try. I'm pulling fabrics and plan to take it on vacation with me! Thanks SO MUCH!!❤❤❤
What fun and I'm inspired. Took a moment to grab my fabric scraps and I'm designing right along with you. I just finished a project and was looking for my next one. I have to be working on something and this one is ideal. Thank you, Sarah.
I love your video. As always very creative and inspiring. Would you please expand on how you made the last small felt book, or even the book that stitches are hidden in the folds. I would like to see how the spine is connected to the folded pages. Thank you so much for all tutorials and inspiration.
I just subscribed to you channel, I’m new to embroidery and you have so much valuable information that I don’t want to lose you, thank you for all you information and keeping it simple ❤❤❤
Love your work, everything you teach is so delightful. Your books are wonderful, and love the ones that are a story or a theme in textures or colors. Could you make one of them just for butterfly's, or bunnies, or baby wild forest animals, and one for birds. Would love to see what you create.
I have a relatively small collection of fabrics that I got just because I liked them, I’ve never done any sewing since school, and that was a LONG time ago! However, I’m here watching your videos because I’m interested in slow stitching - I feel it’s within my capability. It’s funny though because I do make art books, just little books of my art, collages etc and my husband always says it’s very nice but what’s it for? My reason for looking at slow stitching though was because I had the idea I could make a cover for one of my paper books - so a combination of art and stitching! I’ll let you know how I get on. ☺️
Hello... i just joined your channel. I am new to sticking, embroidery and journals. I love to see what you do and I am excited to see more! I think you could stitch your favorite stitched your children's or grandchildren names in your mini book ❤❤❤ love from IDAHO USA, JULIE*
Oh how I wish I had known about this a few years ago when my Mother was still alive. She lived into her hundredth year but a fall had her mind declining and her last two years wre mostly bed ridden. I would have made her one of these books with added buttons, clips, beads, etcetera and she would've enjoyed feeling and fumbling. SIGH !!! Currently my massive collection has been stashed in a piece of black felt which was sprayed liberally with starch or hairspray to stiffen
Your sampler scroll is so beautiful! I hope that I can get that good and make something that beautiful one day! I'm wondering how you get the frayed edges? That looks so pretty. You had it on your sampler scroll and also the first book that you showed. The frayed edges make it look so nice.
Hello I am a new subscriber to your channel and appreciate very much your work learning a lot . I have a question do you have a video showing how to make the heart garland behind you ?i would like to do it . Thank you for sharing❤
@@SarahHomfrayEmbroiderythank you so much for the response but I saw all of them and did not find 😱can you please give the link it will be easier to find. Thank you so much
I find it difficult to get my needle through some of my fabric scraps, especially when there are two or three layers. I love this project. Perhaps I wli start to collect some flimsier fabric. Can you suggest which needle to use for this?
Felt book: sew needlelace patterns; interpret 'characters' from a famous book in stitches/fabric/notion additions...say Little Women...a page each for Meg Jo Beth Amy Marmee Hannah....; fuzzy felts come to mind. Oh dear, got to wrench self away from this and do life instead...

Very nice 💐🧵🪡
Me too I keep them for myself 😊
Wonderful information. To address the what’s it for issue, I tell people it’s for my heart and the celebration of fabric.
Celebration of Fabric!👍😍 Yes!!

Love this simple way of making little or even larger books. Can't wait to give it a go. Thank you ❤

Love all the books, but especially the coastal huts.
Love your videos, love your cat, love your projects. I’m so glad you showed up on my UT feed!
The sea story is so wonderful. Hmmm it's given me some ideas for even more projects!!
Great fun!
The little blank book- how about stitching seeds that gradually grow into flowers ?
These make good book marks. 😊 Smallish, thick, squidgy ones with felt pages make good distractions for fussy infants and toddlers, too.
idea for the felt book, seasonal flowers, 4 spring, etc.
lovely books by the way 👍

Lovely! Thank you for so many great ideas.
Tea drinking and dying are two of my favorite look for using and making my journals!
I love making books. Thanks so much
On the blank book, you could make it a needle book and put a label on each page for the type of needle.

Your sampler scroll is so beautiful! I hope that I can get that good and make something that beautiful one day! I'm wondering how you get the frayed edges? That looks so pretty. You had it on your sampler scroll and also the first book that you showed. The frayed edges make it look so nice.
Thank you
Thanks!
💕your sea story book
I LOVE the little bags/pouches can you do a video on how to construct these? Thanks
Oh I see you mentioned you do in the video, thanks!
New here ❤❤❤
Lovely little books. What about 1 flower per page for the thick tiny book.
I am new to your lovely channel! Thank you for your inspiration. As for the little book you made, you could make it into a stitch sampler?

Hi Sarah, the white broderie anglais pages, love the dyed splashes of colour. How/what did you use?
You could maybe use watercolours if you don't plan on washing the books after creating it.
Pleased you mentioned the basting , I could see me stabbing myself a lot otherwise. Hehe. Very interesting thank you,
ЧУДЕСНО! ВОСХИТИТЕЛЬНО! НО КАК НАЙТИ ПРИМЕНЕНИЕ?
How about BIRDS, BUTTERFLIES, AND BUGS for the little felt book?
