When my daughter was young she had a pair of denim overalls and a little cotton flounce top (She was about 4 years old). Every night after she went to bed, I'd embroider something on one of them. I never planned it out, just stitched in the moment. She was always so excited to wake up to a new bug, flower, muppet, etc. on her clothes. They've been lost over time and many moves (she's 50 yrs old now) but she still has fond memories of them.

Slow stitching…so, turns out my favorite pastime has a name!! I’ve been doing this since I was about 8 years old…I’m 62 now. Glad the younger generation is catching onto such a peaceful hobby. My absolute favorite thing I’ve ever made “slow stitching” is a small cloth doll with embroidered face and five sweet little two piece outfits…all that fit all together, onto the space of my open hand. 🤗

When I heard you say "I have fabric every where", I knew I was in the right place and subscribed immediately. It's so comforting to have someone who understands fabric obsession. My piles of fabric bring me such joy and most have old stories to tell. I'll be searching out your past videos and will look forward to future ones. Thank you for this wonderful video. Blessings.

This was so inspirational to me. I saw this and immediately turned off my phone and went to get out my old embroidery stuff. I came back to leave this comment because it’s two days later and I’m committed to the nature journal now. I’ve embroidered prairie crocuses (they bloom this time of year where I live) and a bird inspired by the birds who made a nest outside my window. I just wanted to say that this was such a lovely video about such a wonderful concept. Thank you so much for posting it.

I love to quilt, and do the piecing by hand. I see how this can be worked into a quilt. It’s so peaceful to start with just the choices of colors, patterns, laying it all out. My friends machine quilt, rotary cut, and speed sewing. I tell them it’s not a race. It’s peaceful and creative. This is a lovely channel.

At school I remember doing a needlework project that involved researching different fabrics, and local companies were wonderful for giving me small samples. It was many decades ago, in Manchester, which was a big centre for fabric manufacture and when I was a child it was already an industry in decline, but still a great place to find interesting fabrics. I remember getting a big bag of printed cotton remnants from a little shop near Piccadilly, and they were great quality and colour-fast.

I have just discovered slow stitching. This is more satisfying than a quilt. My sis does machine-stitched quilts. I enjoy hand stitching and this just fits my style as I have made penny rugs which is wool art. Both are relaxing. I haven't sewn for years and gave away all my material when we moved. I expect I will have to hang out at garage sales and thrift store to fine materials. I can't wait.

I've always been a _"the journey is more important than arriving at the destination"_ kind of person, so I really loved this video. Whether I'm crocheting, hand sewing a (simple) garment, mending, or even just enjoying a cup of tea while writing in my journal...using my hands in such slow, deliberate ways always puts me in a state of relaxed mindfulness.
And that state of mindfulness is such a wondrous luxury in this often too-hurried pace of modern living.
Your pieces are absolutely beautiful! thank you for sharing them. 💖

Ivdo crochet & embroidary but never knew what to do with all the fabris scraps I've collected. I don't know machine sewing. I've been waiting for this video. Looking forward to starting working on a bigger piece and taking my time to work on it for an extended period of time, like your year Nature stitch journal. I've been Slow Stitching for a few years now, I love doing it but I always seem to be in a rush to finish whatever I'm working on. So my plan is too use this project to put the slow into my Slow Stitching. To take the time to add fabrics and stitches for the pleasure of it, rather than to finish the project as quickly as I can. My theme for the this piece of work is Memories. Looking forward to watching your future videos.

Do you always pre-wash fabrics, whether bought new from a shop or second hand from a charity shop? Both for hygiene and to test for colour fastness? And also to wash and iron them to get rid of creases? How do you deal with fabrics that aren't completely colour fast, such as intensely coloured velvet? The stretchy velvet I got leaked colour slightly when I washed it in very cool, almost cold, water and bio colours detergent, and its final rinsing water was clear, so I hoped that it wouldn't leak any further colour. Another bit of fabric I had, it was a printed cotton that was mostly red and it leaked colour so badly that I just threw it out as it would ruin any applique it was used in.

Nice to sort of cut away a large eyelet with sharp quilting embroidery scissors. Make an daisy with the regular thread to open your negative shape

So glad I found you. I quilt and did some embroidery as a child. I’d love to the bee. Just start simple. Then move on to the wild flowers you were showing. I will have to get a small hoop, needles for embroidery, I think a piece of linen. Could 8 just get a pattern for the bee and if so where do I get patterns. We use to get them and iron them on. That is where I am but so looking forward to getting started. Thanks so much. Linda

Hi I’ve been looking for a project!!! Did knitting, crocheting so I wanted something different, came across slow stitching. Oley!! Nice way of putting odd pieces of material with stitches. Some of the stitches Iam familiar with. I can’t machine sew 🤷🏼‍♀️. Have watched your video which inspired me. You speak very clearly and explain . I’ll be following you 👏👏look forward to your other videos. I’ll probably do collage, it appeals to me. Will let you know how I get along 😊
