To truly appreciate Stevie, you have to watch , not just listen. He is the whole package. It is his stage persona that you can't take your eyes off him for a second. I can't even imagine just listening to a track.
Studio albums more controlled than live. This version is amazing. Close if not equal is the show in Daytona Beach. Best blues ever😎🔥🎸 When he’s not singing, the guitar is singing
🤠His brother, Jimmie Lee, said, "Stevie never plays a song the same way ONCE, much less twice!" When asked about his playing style Stevie responded by saying, "I play like I'm breaking out of prison!" 😂😂😂👍👍👍🎸🎸🎸
Mate that’s the funniest quote of all time both of them hahaha doesn’t play the same way once 😂 I can relate only I’m shit. And he actually does play like he’s breaking out of prison man he has somewhere to be he’s strapped for time 😂

HiddenInAHoodie After Stevie got clean and sober, he’d do his little talk, like he did during Life Without You, and he’d often add, “I know I’ve been given a second chance , and I’m living on borrowed time...”

Aha my favorite SRV song...I love this version, because of the genuine smile he shows after his solo when he hears the applause from the crowd....it shows his humble spirit, plus he wrote this song.
You can see him without his hat on a video showing him in the recording studio in Memphis, Tennessee working out the sounds on his guitar & in the sound room listening to some of the tracts. I don't think many people would recognize him without the hat & some of the flamboyant clothes that he wore on stage. Thank you for great reactions to SRV!!
I forgot one: ruclips.net/video/2HmLFyvFxTc/видео.html This is Stevie Ray Vaughan & Jeff Healey - 'Look At Little Sister'. Jeff Healey was a blind guitarist from Canada. Jeff was another great guitarist and he was more into jazz but that blind man could PLAY!
Yeah, SRV never played the same song twice in the same way...This comes from his band, Double Trouble. So, props to Double Trouble for picking up on Stevie's cues. Stevie is @ his best live as the music just flows through him..." He's like an open channel..." Clapton. There is no is lip sync- auto tune etc. What you get is just straight up Blues & awesome guitar playing!
He preferred live. He never played a song the same. He went with what moved him. The recordings are great, but really need to watch him to get full effect. Albums were: Texas Flood, Couldn’t Stand the Weather, Soul to Soul, Live Alive, (all before sobriety) In Step, then with his brother, Jimmy Vaughan, Family Style. Jimmy put some great songs together of Stevie’s and Double Trouble in a posthumous album, The Sky is Crying. Great album. Others came after.
Enjoying your discovery of the dinosaur legends that I grew up with. Another SRV point of departure thats more "rock" as opposed to blues is a song called "Change It". It was a rock radio hit in mid 80s. Shows him away from a 12 bar blues chord structure and a little more vocal melody. I've done a lot of studio and live work with his keyboard player Reece here in Nashville. And that flat microphone is a Sennheiser 409. Usually referred to as the "Pink Floyd" mic in music circles because of PF using them extensively in the late 60s/early 70s. And btw... you could easily pass for Pete Townshends grandson and could play young Pete circa 1964-75 in a movie biopic. Keep rockin'.
Haha sick a young Pete Townsend lookalike what a great compliment you’ve made my day haha. Thanks for the comment I will watch change it eventually ✌️😊
Good question about Stevie's playing live vs studio. I've seen many SRV videos and own quite a few. I've seen multiple versions of the same songs live. I've seen him play live and be note-to-note true to the studio versions and some not so much. I think it just depended a lot on the mood he was in during a given live performance. Let it be known that if he was in the mood to play true to the studio version he could do it with any song he ever recorded.
I think he takes his hat off in almost every video of "Love Struck Baby" that I've seen. He hangs it on the mic stand and plays behind his head. There's a video of that song at Daytona, and it turns into an extra fast version of Rude Mood as well.
You must listen to, the Lone Star Cafe interview 1/1/1985. Even if its just for yourself, not necessarily for a reaction. Its a 4 part interview. I didn't want it to end. Enjoy!!!!

Hey 😊. Thanks for your comment I appreciate that you enjoy it. Thanks for your suggestion as well I’m gonna wack that on this beautiful SRV list I’ve conjured up so I can get it down in the near future.
No. He’s strumming behind his back and singing in Texas Flood. He plays and sings in most songs. He doesn’t have backup singers so he’s different. YES that’s Number One. Stevie always takes off his hat to sign out
The short answer to your studio album question is, no. Stevie never played a song the same way twice. The studio and live versions are very different. The studio versions had flavorings of what the record label wanted him to produce, whereas the live versions were his personal masterpieces. 🎸🐐
R L Stanton this is true when he is playing and has his eyes closed he was listening to how his Guitar sounded and played the way he felt he said he played every time like it was the last time he played so he gave it all
An interviewer remarked to his brother Jimmie that Stevie never played a song the same way twice, and Jimmie said, “Hell, he never plays it the same way once!” It was endlessly fresh and newly created, even a song you’d heard 100 times. The albums actually sound a little flat in comparison.

Stevie was a little more consistent on live performances than jimi, jimi said it was hard for him to remember notes because he was always getting new ideas. Stevie once said " i do the best when i listen for when im trying to go with it. And where it CAN go, if i just go with whats in my heart and let it come out, then im okay"
It is rare to see SRV without his hat on, I saw a video of him during outtakes of a studio session and he removed his hat. Lets just say he was really thin up top. Don't know if that is why he always wore the hat but you have to admit, the hats he wore only SRV could pull them off, everyone else would look ridiculous in them.
