GT3s are the holy grail for NA, high-revving enthusiasts like us Honda guys (who later got a Cayman too). That GT3 sound and 9K RPM limiter is the only thing missing from the GT4s
I think you said it best. I bought a 718 GT4 to get a chance at a 992 GT3 allocation, but the more I drive the GT4 the less I want to get rid of it. The only thing that makes me want to move to the GT3 is a 9k RPM with a manual box.
Amen. 981 GT4 owner here. The car is great but just knowing that the GT3 and it's even more insane engine exists, keeps me from being 100 percent happy with the Cayman. In a perfect world I think having both in the garage would be the best but a 997.2 or 991.2 won't leave my mind and heart until I have a chance to own one.
Another great review Fenton. I appreciate that you've stayed true to your original format of exploring the contextual/historic background of the car, while describing your subjective driving experience.
I got my car in 2017 from a Porsche dealership, the dude that had my s2k traded it in for a 911 GT3. I had got the same sales guy that did the deal like two days after the trade. GT3 is like an s2k on steroids!
991.1 GT3 is definitely the bargain of the Porsche world if you ask me. under 150k for pretty much all of them compared to 200k for the 991.2 GT3 and 300k for 992 GT3.
Porsche just builds amazing drivers cars. I got to drive every current Porsche platform at their experience program at Barber last week. Even the Macan was surprisingly agile and balanced. Please tell me you've done PEC LA
Passed on a NC1 for a 991.1 GT3. It’s a better Spiritual successor than the NC1 was to the NA1. The NC1 is about as much an NSX is as a Mustang MachE is a true Mustang.
I know its been 2 years since this vid released and I agree tho I’d say now 991.2 is the best value for money sports car with its 4.0L engine. Lookswise as well very classy opposed to new 992 which is almost like gt3rs 991
How does this compare to a 991.2 ? There's no real definitive 991.1 vs 991.2 video on RUclips, they are quite vague. I mean comparing how the cars drive, power, handling, comfort, steering feel / response, turn-in.
@milo: here in Switzerland you typically take a 2-years Approved Guarantee which you can extend until the 911 is 20 years old. Then she enters the Classic status anyway.
Ive been in the GT3 market for a while. It's such a struggle for a few reasons and surprisngly 991.1 GT3 seems like the buy... 1) 997 GT3s nearly doesn't exist on the market unless they are too prestine and go for nuts $$ 2) 992s go for $300k+ and just isn't worth that imo. I do agreed it's the best GT3 and comes in manual but the freshness markup is too crazy. 3) 991.2 GT3 is the best balance of the lineup. Gets you manual bans the true 4 liter engine but at $200k ish, it IS worth the money but because this car exists.... 4) because 991.2 exists at that price the 991.1 GT3 is around $120k. Sure, the 3.8 is not ideal, and the lack of manual sucks. BUT at that price it's sooooo cheaper for what you get (crazy to think this was even cheaper pre covid). So 991.1 seems like the buy for me actually..that or spend the extra for 991.2. the manual and true 4.0 liter engine IS worth it, but 991.1 def gets you majority of the value for a cheaper cost
I have a 991.1 GT3, it's fantastic for when you want to get out and drive, definitely make sure you have a second "easy" car though, you won't want to have a GT3 as a daily lol, it attracts too much attention for that.
It’s so much cheaper because this 3.8 engine likes to blow off sometimes, now 10 years guarantee starts to end on those cars that’s why price is much Lower than 991.2, so is it really worth to risk with 991.1 I don’t know
Fire sale for all 991.1 GT3 with Original engines as the 10yr warranty is coming up end of 2024. Original engine is ticking time bomb and will cost you over $70K USD to replace so do your due diligence in buying one!!!

Hopefully the Gt4RS gives the 9k rpm the Gt4 was lacking.

I had a modified s2000 (i.e., 2001); I have a 2015 GT3: no comparison. It’s like comparing an F-18 to a UFO (e.g., tic tac).
@@jameskerr2812 Thats cool, I just mean by it being NA, revving to 9k and having a manual. I know its completely different otherwise

I haven't but REALLY want to. The lead/follow track event looks super fun.

How will the 991.1 gt3 holds its value after the 10 year engine warranty expires in 2024?
Always buy one with Approved Warranty, and it covers far more than just the engine until 2034.
@@hmk911 ? I have one with the Porsche Certified program for 3 years, but Warranty until 2034???

Engine issues in the .1?
I found a 2015 gt3, is that a .1?
IMO, the 991.1 GT3 is the best looking Porsche GT3 (and I have a 997 GT3).
Awesome review! I hope you get to drive and review more GT products.
This and the 996.1 GT3 are my favorite GT3s.
I'd love to drive a 996 GT3 someday. Must feel so incredibly analog.
Nice!! Next : 991.2 gt3 with a manual
😏
Man it looks so good in black

I like to think of my tuned RX-8 as a budget budget GT3 (and by extension a budget gt350)...also really want to try the real deal one of these days!
I'm looking for an RX-8 (coming from a third-gen RX-7) and think of it in the same way.
Unfortunately, the one GT3 with no manual!
The PDK is great box but yes, a manual would be my choice. Stay tuned for manual GT3's coming to the channel soon!
Wonder if one could build the 997 to be better then the gt3 for road duties
I think yes, easily. Just throw some Ohlins on a base 997 and it'll be a great road car.
More Livermore videos!
My mans was nervous in the passenger seat 😂
Naw, it’s insured
Time for a track review someday
Now that would be an incredible experience
I have that same exact car in the same color haha. But with the carbon ceramics
So jealous.
Wasn't the 3.8 motor problematic?
Yeah a lot of them were replaced by Porsche under the 10 year warranty. Haven't looked into exact numbers.
A lot is a very vague answer.. there were not “a lot”. Porsche was so confident that they put a 10 year warranty on the motor… hows that for a lot?
The 991 generation was incredible to drive, but I think the new 992 generation looks much much better, hopefully it’s as good to drive
You got to drive a gt3 bro

Yup, can confirm, not a daily driver.
