I have two of those. The best generator in the market. My first on ran almost two months straight after hurricane Maria and performed flawlessly. Now I have my second one and both were used for Hurricane Fiona. Both have few minor modifications: magnetic drain plug, magnetic dipstick. Both run on Mobil One 10W30. The older one has a lithium ion battery and an iridium spark plug. Both have battery tender. Those Powerhorse and other similar ones are no match for the Honda. The powerhorse runs about the same time but, what most people don't realize, the Powerhorse has a bigger tank. So is NOT as efficient. When I went to buy my second Honda, the salesman had a Powerhorse beside the EU7000is. He was going to do the demo on the Powerhorse, he hit the start button, and the blue generator would not start! Right in the showroom! At that moment, I realized which generator was going home with me.

Thank you. Your channel was extremely helpful in picking out the right generator for my needs. Ended up buying the Duromax 4500iH Dual Fuel. I just use it for the odd camping trip, and for home back up. Within my budget. Lots of great features. Fairly quiet. Love that I can run gas or propane in an emergency. Mainly wanted a backup for fridges and freezers. Great channel! :)

Just keep the tank and carburetor pump gas free when storing the generator drain it completely.
Store propane tank and buy pump gas only when you need it.

Just got this unit delivered and tested it today. Firstly it is astonishingly quiet. I can't even hear it from inside the house unless I'm in the room where it's running just outside the window. This is a huge difference from my old, loud, cheap open frame generator. I was worried about it only being 5k running watts but it seems to have no issues running the basic items in my house. The Bluetooth app is cool but a bit clunky, the main issue being that the range is not great. Remote start sounded great but I don't really find it that useful. I kind of envisioned being able to stop and start this generator from inside the house during extended power outages - but you need to disconnect the loads when performing a cold start so I would have to go outside anyway. Overall I generally recommend this generator as long as you don't mind the high price. Sure, it's worth it on paper given that it's fuel injection vs. carburetor, Honda reliability, and SO quiet -- but there are competing inverter generators such as the Predator 9500 that are less than half the price that probably would have also worked just fine.

Love your generator reviews! This honda is one I've been considering for the occasional home outage. I have a eu2000 and love Honda products and their quality, but for me this one is just way too expensive (and a little under powered) to justify for occasional use. And the thought of getting two of these hondas to parallel is what eliminates this as an option for me (cost wise). Been watching your excellent reviews of the duromax xp9000ih and is probably what I'll go with (love the lp option).

I just bought the Honda EU7000is in Canada, it is amazing, for all folks interested in one of these there is a $1250 markup from dealer cost to retail so shop until you find a dealer that will move on the price because in my opinion that is excessive profit on a generator. dealer cost is ~$4525.00 plus GST where I live, luckily I have a very honest and open dealer that showed me his invoice from Honda Canada and was willing to sell me it at $5000 plus GST Canadian $5250.00 out the door. In the USA this would be even lower as your $ is stronger but markup should be similar.

The EU7000 is the new gold standard, to which all other inverter gens are compared to. The EU6500 was the original. Another huge benefit of fuel injection over carb, is fuel stability with sitting/storage. Fuel injection systems are sealed so air doesn't get to the fuel, and it stays stable longer (not forever, just longer). I'm guessing that's why Honda is adding to their new 2200 unit, and probably others going forward. I just checked and the Powerhorse is carbureted, not fuel injected. I'm guessing the "reverse engineering" manufacturers haven't cloned Honda's fuel injection system.....yet.

This fuel injection system is made from some company ( I don't remember right now) it very expensive part of that engine , when you think about you have to add a sensor and some controller , that is why that generator is so expensive

    • @eosjoe565

I have no problem with the carbs as it is so easy to simply drain it with the attached drain outlet that it's really a non issue. I have a large number of gasoline powered units which all need care prior to stoarage ..Honda generator, 2 Champion 2000 watt generators, lawn mower, snow blower, outboard motors. Over the years I have found, here is what needs to be done for all gasoline powered small engines
1- use ONLY non ethanol gas (premium in most cases)
2- Always add a fuel stabilizer to the gas for storage...
3- Always drain the carbs after use or at least before storage.
Remember as well, the Honda generators will maintain their resale value if properly looked after so you will recoup most of the drastic overpricing of your original purchase.

Starting to see A LOT of complaints that Honda is discontinuing many parts making them paperweights. At this price point you need to be able to get parts for many years to come. Right now I wouldn’t buy one because of that!

Love the Honda and I’ve owned 7 of this model. They are undersized for whole house and if Honda wants to compete in this market they had better come up with a predator killer. I’m talking 9k watts running and 11k surge. My predator 9k was 2100 dollars out the door. This Honda is 5k. Wake up Honda your getting your ass kicked by China. Gavin, love your videos.

The two generators do look alike but the Honda appears physically smaller? I'd love to have the Honda but it's just too expensive for me. And, yeah, I know all the Honda owners are going to tell me I get what I pay for. And, yeah, I know the Honda will last 'till the end of the world. But, for now, I'll stick with my cheapo Westinghouse that starts and runs like when I got it over three years ago. I'd still like to have a Honda or Yamaha, just not at those prices.

another thing to consider is that 25 years plus you would be able to buy OEM parts from honda , other generators I don't know if would be the case , and yeah 20 years from now may be you would buy something else buy who knows

    • @eosjoe565
      @eosjoe565 2 года назад +2

@@soulkeeper514 That is a major consideration. There are a multitude of sources for Honda parts including local Honda power equipment dealers. Yes, OEM Honda parts are expensive but at least you can get them. These Chinese made generators have very few if any parts available. Even maintenance items like fuel and air filters are not available. I recently looked at the new Harbor Freight 9000w Predator inverter generator and there are no parts at all available for that unit.

  • @lightpawshird

I ran a rood truck off these generators and I can say they are not the best built generators out there. They break down a lot and repairs are generally the GPU or Inverter which are both over $500 for just the part, nearly a $1,000 repair if you take it to a repair shop. I don't recommend buying these.

If you don’t mind me asking what percentage were you running that inverter and for how long, inverter gens typically like to be ran under 50% if you’re running it at 100% all day it’s going to go out.
