    I bought one last spring to help during hurricanes but never used it. Here in (Houston) Texas this month (February 2021) we has 3 winter storms with plunging temperatures (7 degrees F) lasting 5 days. This generator saved our lives. It ran the entire house. 12 hours on one tank of gas. The best investment I have made. Thank You HONDA>

    Used well for ~ 7 years. Two improvements : 1. 4 wheels. This rig is heavy lifting on just the 2 rear wheels 2. The hand pull start is tough to pull in cold...almost impossible. So, we start the beast at least every couple of weeks year round to keep the battery charged. Excellent product.

  • @aland8192
    @aland8192 6 лет назад +8

    We have had this generator for nearly 2 years and it has worked flawlessly. Has nearly 1000 hours on it now. Checked and adjusted valves at 500 hours as per manual. Ran over 20 hours on a tank of gas. At 500 hours we have converted it to propane (GenConnex), and it works very well on propane from our 1000 gallon tank. Starts remotely without a problem...sometimes takes a second try if it has been sitting for a couple of weeks...never have had to use the built in priming knob that comes with the propane conversion.
    We paralleled a second deep cycle car battery and 20 watt solar panel to keep it topped up, and this has worked well. Also home build remote control beside generator, with two remote switches at about 250 feet and 500 feet from generator interconnected with ethernet cable. Had to add a couple of 12 volt relays as internal remote control circuit requires that the ignition be on, and therefore drains the battery. In our installation, it can be weeks or months between uses, so that was not acceptable.
    Used a homemade heat baffle to exhaust heat through the wall, and extended exhaust through a car muffler, unit is super quiet in it's metal shed in the bush. And as noted elsewhere, only a tap on the start button is needed, and it gives an automagic 4 second start sequence. Also welded a washer on the door latch to check/change the oil so you don't need a screwdriver or coin to open it.
    The Honda service manual (Ebay) on this unit is very detailed and has great descriptions of how to do any sort of maintenance.

    We have used the ruclips.net/user/postUgkxOTeIs0vv4_9B5hsmnLsk9r930uDQLu_Y for probably 30 hours with our camper and it’s been great! The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!

    We used a pair of these to run a smallish (6 camera) TV Outside broadcast truck. They were absolutely rock solid and never let us down over hundreds of hours of use. We preferred them over mains as they were more likely to be stable. Always ran in eco mode and they coped perfectly with the full truck load including dual aircon plant, production equipment and interior and exterior lighting. Absolutely reliable.

    I got my first fuel injected car in 1989, FI was just getting started and that car worked well but did have some occasional hiccups happen. As FI was developed in cars more it became really nice to work with. It took a while for FI to get into motorcycles, I got my first FI bike in 2002, that was early for bikes but it worked perfectly, now we are seeing FI in even low end Honda small bikes, working beautifully. Its just beginning to show up in some lawn equipment, and now there is this generator, its great to see this technology in this product.

I use it for whole house backup and fully expect to recoup a very large part of my substantial investment when I resell the unit. There is an old saying..."long after the price is forgotten, the quality lives on"....Very applicable with this unit

      Excellent comment. I also owned the 6500 and it is a fantastic machine. You are correct about resale also. 4 years after using it I sold it for close to 80% of it's original price. The Honda generators are amazing in quality and resale for sure. Thank you for watching and the feedback.

      Off topic a bit, but I love all things Honda. I also drive a dream of a motorcycle (2003 GL 1800 Gold Wing) and it is built to the same superb specs as the Honda generator. It too just won't wear out given proper maintenance. Cheers !!

      I have riddent a few goldwings they are amazing machines. You couldn't be more right the quality and attention to detail is unreal. The holder Honda like your 03 are even better. I had some of their scoots, 230 years old they still ran like new.

    • @ericspda
      @ericspda 5 лет назад +1

      I was looking for an EU6500 for a year or so, when I finally caved and got a new EU7000. The resale on those things is too high for me to justify the price, so I just got a new one even though it was more than I wanted to spend. The prices I was seeing were so close to the cost of a new EU7000 for a several year old EU6500, I don’t see who is paying that much. The best price I found for a 6500 was 2K, but it was 800 miles away and had over 2000 hours on it. These are great machines, are well proven, and the resale is absurd. People are apparently willing to pay $3500 for a used EU7000 when you can get a new one dropped at your door for 4000.

      Sounds like you got a good deal. Prices for built in units has skyrocketed in the past few years here. Typical installed prices are $8k-13k. It makes the Honda a little easier to justify. I wish Honda offered a built in option as well, maybe in he future. Thanks for watching.

      @@SilverCymbal I couldn't pass it up Lowe's financed it and made recommendations on who to install also the natural gas was a good deal Columbia Gas installed their line through my property making it a right of way the install for my gas was free and anybody here can get that if they are within 150 of the main. I got the Generac 20 KW it has activated a few times and my boxer pup likes the mouse it makes anything else and he hides from it. Funny pup. As long as you take care of the maintenance as required you shouldn't have problems. I am interested on what the house is under load with this Honda. I haven't put a decibel meter near mine under full load but with top down you can carry on a normal conversation 10 feet away.
      Good luck with your Honda :-)

      The typical Generac residential standby generators are very different machines from this. They are just fine for the typical use they see as a whole home backup. Most of the time they just sit there, and when they run it’s usually not for long. They are designed to last a few hundred hours of runtime, and that’s just fine for most people. They are loud, inefficient, and cheaply built. This Honda unit is an ‘inverter’ unit, with a proven engine that will run thousands of hours. It provides more stable output, and can run at varying engine speeds to be quieter and more efficient when it’s not fully loaded. But it’s very expensive for its power output. There’s nothing wrong with a typical whole home standby residential generator, but they are built with light use in mind. So it kinda depends on your use case. I wouldn’t try and run off grid with a ‘guardian’ series Generac.

    I am a believer in the Honda 7000is series of Inverter/Generators they are by far the best portables you can buy.
    I purchased an EM7000is during the FLORIDA hurricanes season of 2004-2005 when four hurricanes hit FLORIDA in only six weeks during the 2004 hurricane season. Then after an amazing four hurricanes (Charley, Frances, Jeanne, Ivan) hit Florida in 2004, you would think the following year wouldn't be just as bad. Well, then Dennis, Katrina and Wilma all made landfall as hurricanes in Florida during the 2005 season.
    My Honda will run 14.5 hours on 4.7 gallons while set on its ECO-MODE. I have a dedicated transfer switch connecting 10 breakers which powers quite a bit in the house except the 220v appliances.
    I keep the gen-set maintained by running it with a load once a month and use REC 90 non-ethanol fuel during the off-season storage. After shutdown I open the drain screw at the carburetor bowl and drain the bowl. The unit has over 250 runtime hours without any problems. This new 2019 EU7000is looks like another great 👍 product. They are pricey but, will outlast many of the big box store cheaper units.

    Nice video. I hope Honda come's out with the Parallel Kit soon. I found with both of mine you don't have to hold the start button in to start it. I just have to press it once and the computer goes into start mode with the fuel pump powering up first than it cranks. Honda generators hold their value well.

    The older EU6500 has a quick way to drain the carb after each use. Turn a small screw and it drains down from the attached hose to the ground leaving the carb completely empty. End of storage problems and good thinking on the part of the design engineers, as these units "sit" for long periods of time.

    No doubt the Honda Inverter is best. The price is an issue. I only want a generator for power outages so I purchased a 7000 Surge Master with a 390 Honda engine, $4000 versus $6500 . I have had several Honda inverters including the 6500 when I lived off the grid now The surge Master is my backup . Beware of cheap generators , you need something that will last the test of time and work when you need it.

      I completely agree the Honda is not inexpensive. From my past experience though I have had excellent history with Honda generators of several lasting 20+ years and still getting amazing resale value. Upfront very costly but over the time of ownership I feel they are a great value.

    • @624Dudley
      @624Dudley 3 года назад

      A few years ago I saw a video from Honda’s facility in Georgia, in which this generator was started using the recoil with the battery removed from the chassis. I can’t seem to find it now. In any case, the EU7000is maintenance manual says that there is enough energy available from the windings, when using the pull rope, to drive the throttle to the start position and to fire the ignition. Therefore it should start with a dead flat battery. I haven’t tested it myself - yet.

      The microwave and fridge would be no problem. Additionally it would run your TV, lights, and other small appliances. As far as you oven goes, You may be able to run 1 burner, maybe even the oven by itself. If you look your oven is on a 50 amp breaker. It would take 2 generators just to run everything on your oven.

    I understand the name Honda means quality, but I've had a generator for 3 years now that is 9500 starting and 7500 continuous watts output. It has a starter like the Honda, it is not fuel injected and it cost me $700. The Honda is 6 times the cost. The generator, the transfer switch and all other accessories combined cost about 1/4th the cost of the Honda. I just don't know that a price that high is worth it.
    My generator is approaching 75 hours of use. It fires up every time. All I've done is change the oil, clean the air filter and change the spark plug.
    Generac makes some of the best generators on the market, and their 7500 watt model is $1000.

    • @SilverCymbal
      @SilverCymbal  5 лет назад

      Unlike a lot of others on here I am no generator elitist. If it gets the job down that is the most important thing. For me that extra run time that you get with the inverter and fuel injection was worth it since I need 12 hours sometimes if I can't be home to refuel. Now for me this generator was a bit of a bargain, because compared to a whole house built in, this is 1/2 that ones price. So in some cases this is a best deal but it sounds like yours is working for you exactly hw you need it to so thats awesome. You can see any generators I have reviewed on my channel with some new ones coming too that are much more affordable.

      That's the biggest question of all. Honda says yes it must be protected (someone can correct me if this has changed) but in practice most of us are using these in bad weather. You have to make your own call on what you feel is safe and you should always follow the manual.

    • @SilverCymbal
      @SilverCymbal  3 года назад

      Be careful of going too big, if it runs on nat street gas, then you won't run out. But if its LP be sure you realize running a huge unit like that can drain a tank in 3 days. Generacs seems to be popular and I would probably pick that over the briggs but you may be able to use a 12-15k unit. That's a lot of power by itself.
