      I think you nailed it, with you comments and review. And look forward to future previews of new generators etc.
      I’m definitely going propane ready for generator’s from this point forward, and I saw your mention of running some new models in series/parallel without mods. I wonder what the limitations on hooking generators together?
      Generator noise is my biggest issue.
      gas has been the source of many of my small engine problems. Propane does not degrade over time(that’s what’s documented) ?
      Electric start ? I’m tempted to put access to the crank bolt so I can start them with a heavy power tool ?

    Totally agree about Champion. Had a minor problem in warranty. Called CS and was connected in under a minute with a native English speaker who took care of everything perfectly after a few preliminaries and a brief description of the problem. Had part I needed in two days. Outstanding! Doesn't get better than that.

    My favorite all-around generator for rving right now is the 3500 watt Predator. I do a lot of boondocking and am always impressed with how quiet they are compared to my Wen 2350. There is something about that tone that makes them blend into the background. I have also watched them perform well in construction. If I need to go bigger in the future, that would be the one I would get.

    In 2008 I bought an open frame Champion 3500 watt generator. I purchased the floor model for $200 at Lowes. That has been the best generator I've ever owned, I don't care what brand, I've either owned them or been around them, and for a simple traditional style generator it is fairly quiet and never fails to start, even after sitting for 3 or 4 years, with fresh gas of course, I cant say enough about Champion.

    Great reviews! Personally, I went with 2 Champion 2500-watt dual-fuel inverter generators and a parallel box. I've only used propane fuel (so far) and piped them both directly to the low-pressure side (11" w/c ) of my 250 Gallon bulk propane tank. I can run one or both as needed to power the house or recharge the battery bank on my solar system. Great little units, and very quiet.

    I also agree that Champion offers a great combination of quality and price coupled with that all important service and parts availability. I own five generators....a 3400 Champion, 3 of the 2000Watt Champions and one Honda EU6500 for home backup. I truly wish the Trifuel 10500 Watt Genmax was available in Canada. I would then sell the Honda and buy that one so I can hook into the natural gas supply in my home AND put some money back in my pocket (the HONDA has fabulous resale value)...makes much more sense than modifying the Honda to work on natural gas.

      It wasn’t horrible engine wear like other tests. Plus I told Todd he needs to change the oil once or twice to remove the assembly grease. This will skew the tests results from black stone labs. Not sure if that’s exactly who he uses but it one of the main ones.

    Two things i consider important but rarely see discussed: (1) can i buy replacement carburetors? Rec90 ethanol free gas isn't available here so carburetor replacement is inevitable. (2) CO detectors last 10 years at best. What is the replacement option and cost when that sensor fails? Will it fail at a time when the generator is most needed?

      The firman brand has a couple good units and a couple that are still problematic like the 2000 watt with the low air intake under the unit. This allowed water and dust to be sucked right in. Prematurely damaging the unit.

It seems like everything they put their name on is gold. Turbos, connecting rods, pistons, etc. from them are cheap and work as promised. Are they as good as the big names? I'm going to buy a new Champion 4650. I found an older model without a CO sensor at a local store, however I can save $130 by buying a newer model that has the CO sensor. I'm not a fan of the CO sensors, having disabled them on my Hondas, and I'm sure I can do the same with this Champion. I'm thinking I should suck it up and spend the extra money on the one unencumbered by the CO sensor hardware. I'd like to know which one you'd buy...thank you.

      I dont prefer them either myself as I know, hey …run the generator far enough away from a home or RV. Plus I have those inside my home and RV. And yea more and more people are finding way to bypass them.

    Hey Johnny
    I was reviewing this video from approx 1 year ago. I noticed that the Pulsar 4K gen did not make this list. Is it just not as good as those that you listed? I'm looking for a dual fuel generator for a truck camper that will run a 13.5k A/C along with a 12v compressor fridge etc. at altitude (to mid 9k range). This camper will have 600 AH of batteries and 800 W of solar on the roof. The gen is mainly for backup but I still want it to be solid and dependable.
    I'm trying to stay with a unit that will fit in the dedicated compartment on the side. As near as I can tell, the Pulsar 4K and the Maxspeedingrods 3500 or 4K will fit. GenMax, Champion and Wen are too tall. I like the Maxspeedingrods but they are not CARB certified so it would be difficult for me to buy.
    I would like to hear your comments on the Pulsar.
    Thank You

    Hi JW,
    Is it right to say Genmax is the ‘ Parent ‘ company, and MXR and a couple of others spring from it? The 145cc engine seems to be common across two or three different brands. I guess Dinking and Goyou build them, and Genmax seems to be the ‘ retail ‘ outlet. Any thoughts on this? They seem to have nailed it with this 145cc engine/3kw class.

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  Год назад +1

      Yes there are a few manufacturers that supply most of the off brands we see. Genmax being one of them which is Dinking power. They have made generators for years and came out with the Genmax line. Gouyo tech I’m not sure about because there are several. So tough to keep track. But there are some that are better than others.
      And yea so far I think they nailed this 145cc engine. So far it seems to be doing well.

      I haven’t on that specific but most all are so close in that range because they all use a Yamaha mz80 clone engine and the muffler is really the only difference. And when it’s middle to upper loads it will be a little louder but you need to buy the right gen for your use. And it’s only 1800 running but that’s only once in a while.

      @user-pg8js8un8j the Honda will always be the quietest but the little champion does a good job on the low loads to mid lows then around the middle you’ll notice it but it’s not harsh.

      @MusicMike747 3 месяца назад +1

      @@timellis3336 First step in deciding which generator you need is to add up all the watts of the devices you want to run. Check the manufacturer nameplates. If only amps and volts are listed, multiply them together to get watts.
      My fridge is 310 watts. My window ac is 900 watts. Total is 1210 watts. Add 20% as a cushion (multiply by 1.2) and I get 1452 watts. So no less than 1500-2000 running watts is what I need.

    Is Simpson2200 watt inverter generator a good choice?

  • @BigRiverLabrador
    @BigRiverLabrador 8 месяцев назад

    Our family has used Yamaha generators since our weekend cabin was built in 1986. One of which I still use to run power tools from time to time which is an early 80’s Yamaha 1200 and if the generator does not start on first pull, it’s either out of gas or gas valve not turned on. From late 90’s to now we have used both Yamaha and Honda inverters ranging from 1000w to 2200w for weekend use both summer and winter in northern Canada and while none of these generators are made to operate every weekend for approximately 50+ hours straight. The Honda’s will start to burn oil and need piston ring replacement long before the Yamaha’s of equal size. Sometimes a full year prior. Again, none of these portables are designed to run 50+ hours non-stop per week so naturally the Yamaha’s eventually burn oil as well and need rings replaced. I often wonder if small diesel units existed would they be better suited for such constant use.

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  8 месяцев назад

      Would love a small diesel but everyone manufacture says the same. It’s no longer portable because a small unit is heavy and then they are also much more expensive. And more maintenance.

      They make a lot of units all the Genmax is there line. They make a lot of the pulsar units and some DuroMax as well. They build lots of generators for customers I guess. Been around since 2012 like I mentioned in the video when I went to vegas

      No the Gx is super new and no long term history.

      Nice let me know how it does. Change the oil after the first 30 mins to one hour..👍🏼
      A battery tender is nice as well if you doing use it often.

    Inverter, dual fuel AND remote start is very hard to find. I want to power our off/grid home using bulk, once a year fill tank and start and stop without going outdoors. The SUA3800iED seemed to fit this bill. But it had a number of problems. First, right out of the box it wouldn't start on LP. Turned out to be a defective spark plug and the integral resistor that's cast in the porcelain. Replaced with a NGK brand. Then after a short while running solidly on LP it suddenly stopped one night. Appears that they had used an intermittent rated main LP shutoff valve. The electric solenoid coil completely fried into a full short circuit and even blew the main battery fuse. Replaced the fuse and disconnected the valve to run on gasoline only. That only lasted a few days and fuel started running out of the air filter box from the carburetor. That was probably a carburetor "sinking float" problem. So back to Costco it went for a refund. I'm just playing the waiting game to see if the deficiencies have been resolved in the next shipment. I like the overall design if it weren't for the flaws.

      Yes need to move up to a larger unit like some of the Genmax 6000 or 7250
      Or the Genmax 3500

    Any decent review of generators would include comparing the engine displacement and the rated output power. Some of these are very optimistic on their rated power, given that they are saving money and skipping by putting crappy little small engines inside the box.

    I'm wondering why you did not include the pulsar 4000 W generator. I read that it is very quiet, dual fuel and RV ready

      It’s a great unit so far and I have recommended many. It’s the same as several others in a way. But this video is also a little old and those units were newer and not proven.

      @@johnnysweekends we're regarding the pulsar do you know if whether or not it is noisier than the champion 2500v or champion 4000? or westinghouse? noise is my biggest concern. thanks!!

      @movingtorichmondva I have not tested champion 4000 to others yet but on the list. Nothing will beat the Honda in the low mid range but the pulsar and maxpeedingrods rods do better at 1800 watts. But they have bigger engines and more power so more noise.
      Im working on another quietest video but will be a couple months.
