*A quiet **Generater.Systems** , love the dual fuel capabilities, camper is 50 amp but the adapter helps and found it still handles the load. Haven't taken a camping trip yet, that's in a couple of weeks. Will see how well it does over a long weekend.*
I am so very grateful to you for making this video. You have helped me tremendously and took my fear away of operating this generator by myself. I had done the first 3 things on my own and just needed a hands-on of what to do next. I'm so grateful to you for showing me just exactly what to do and that all the dos and don'ts on other people's videos I watched created so much fear that I couldn't even move forward. But all thanks to you, I actually ran my generator today for the very first time. It's an amazing thing for me. I have the exact model as yours and this will make a life-changing tool in my van life journey. Thank you, again, so very, very much. ❤
I have that exact generator and use it for camping as you do. The only problem I've had with it is a small amount of oil leak. I run it on propane and it will use much of a 20 lb bottle over a 3-4 day trip using it only for air conditioning and perhaps 3 hrs per day, since most of the time we are outside doing activities, fishing, etc. I usually run it from around 7-10pm, which is when quiet hours start at most camp grounds. It is nosier than I would like. The oil cap on mine was cross-threaded, so I ordered a brass one from Amazon. It has a probe that goes down into the oil tank to attract any metal shavings. Even at age 78, I'm able to lift it into my truck, but I do have a set of ramps that I can use if I need to.
I run this same 4500watt dual fuel gen after my last Yamaha decided to take a shit on me!!! I have over 3200 hours on it and it still runs like a champ and starts up 1st try everytime no issues at all
Useful tips: Starting the generator first, then flipping on the main breaker to feed the load is important because it will preserve a lot of appliances. When a generator is turning over to start, the frequency and voltage are out of tolerances, which can slowly damage voltage regulators, sensitive electronics, motor windings, etc. in many electrical appliances. In addition, it is equally crucial to turn main breaker off before shutting the generator off. Propane fuel does not cause prolong storage problems for carburetors, but gasoline does. I use Stabil fuel stabilizer along with Archoil fuel treatment for storing any gasoline engines. It’s also a good idea to plug up the exhaust to keep moisture out of the engine, in case one of the exhaust valves are open.
Most outstanding video. Thank you for helping me get started with my new Champion 4650 Inverter Generator. Of course now I wish I had purchased a dual fuel!
I was debating between this and the Predator for camping. The propane alone gives the Champion an edge, since I've already got three LP tanks on the camper. This is my next purchase! Thank you for such an informative video!
Thanks for this video. I overlooked the battery "bundle", _with_ disconnected wires, and thought the battery was dead. Even though that's what I came for I enjoyed your entire video, Happy Holidays.
You are my "goto guy" for my Kubota. I recently learned about Champion generators and wanted to learn more. I was glad to see that you did a video on one. I already have Generac, Honda, and a crappy Honeywell HW2000i, and I am pretty impressed with what I have learned thus far about Champion. They seem to have good support and parts availability. I like the dual-fuel models which avoid the risk of old gasoline damaging the carb. due to the use of propane. Thank you for your videos. I used your advice and re-fabricated the loader clamp on receiver for my Kubota. It works great. Ron
You are very welcome. I adapted the front mount screw on the hitch receiver for my Kubota B2301 loader. I' m a retired police officer. But, did a lot of maintenance and repairs and wiring of the police station and cruisers. I have a stick welder and a Lincoln MIG. My neighbor is a professional welder and is teaching me. My weld beads are almost as good as yours.
If you live in the gulf coast area you know the need for a good healthy generator . My little piece of advice for approaching storms would be to save any emptied milk countainers for making gallon ice jugs . Also eat the frozen foods while you have the opportunity.
Thank you for the best tutorial ive seen. I bought my Craftsman 2 yrs ago, its an electric start and just unboxed it today after Hurricane Berl. My 2 yr old Bluetti inverter AC300 with 2 B300 batteries was running low. I like how you showed where the battery was and how to connect it. I read my manual very well. But wanted to see if someone else demonstrated connecting the battery correctly. Thanks for this great demonstration. Its the little things that that help 😊
I keep my fuel tank full of TRUFUEL ethanol free fuel and run it a few minutes after propane. A video of a guy who never ran anything but propane in his and the carb got rusted up and couldnt run it on gas. So maybe just as a preventative approach. I called champion and they said no issue running on propane with the fuel tank full.
Much appreciated. I’ve actually run some ethanol free fuel through it and have some in there now. Like my large backup generator, I’ll run this one every month or so to keep it from tarnishing. Thanks for watching. -Ed
I think that something else is going on if the carb rusted up from running only propane. I grew up in the 80s and we had a Case model D tractor built in the 40s that ran on propane. We only used it in the spring and summer, and my dad never had a problem with that tractor. All he ever did to it was change the oil.
Could have rusted from drawing high moisture air through the Carb, the carb is still in play even though not running gasoline as the butterfly and choke on the carb regulate the flow of propane in conjunction with the Garetson regulator. Although usually most carbs don’t have anything in them that will rust i.e. brass and aluminum.
After a break in I would invest in amsoil 10w40 synthetic 4 stroke engine oil or other high quality synthetic.. these units are expensive.. protect your investment..
Good review. Just picked one up on Amazon for less than $700. Mine will be used for emergencies (hurricanes) and to supplement my solar generator when there is overcast. I'm going to test some gas and propane for 5 hours and change the oil today. Seems to be a decent inverter generator. I'll still hold onto my 20 year old B&S beast that has a THD of
We just received ours today! We used your video as a guide, which was very much appreciated! Hooked it up to a propane bottle and it fired right up! Very Happy - Thank You!!!👍😎👍
I just got mine today! So far I am impressed of how quiet it is. I got it to power 2 smaller freezers in the event of power outages and also camping trips. Thanks for the video and I will be checking out more after I subscribe.
I was looking at these at Menards today. Thanks for the video. This appears to be exactly what I need for my small camper(2016 Rockwood Mini Lite 2109s).
So glad I found your channel and review. Mine just arrived I unboxed it and wow because I found you I am confident I can do this!! Thank you!!! Happy camping and blessings😊
Good choice you bought the champ Duel fuel 4500. I have a Predator 3500 that would trip when I use both A/C and microwave. I should have done more research.
Thank you for making the video.I must say that in the beginning with the unboxing and audac c***. You really began to lose me so I jump forward to the import stop.Good information and I thank you for that period.
Hi Sir, I just got the similar 4650/3650 201080 dual fuel model. The choke mode, as per the user guide, is not for starting the generator. One simply pushes the button while the dial is selected to choke for 2-3 seconds and then you move the dial to run mode, depress the button and it then starts/runs. I am very impressed with this unit!! I went to town and got a gentent for it as well because the power doesnt go out on nice warm sunny days with no wind. In terms of sound +3dBs doubles the power of the noise so a few dBs can be significant, however concur these units are quite acceptable for noise (test baby kept on sleeping). :-)
I have the slightly larger 4650 version of this unit. I found that carrying a fuel can and loading the generator empty saved a few pounds. Still, taking it off the tailgate and turning to put it down seemed like more than my 50-something back should be doing. I use loading ramps.
Great video sir, my church bought me the 4650 Champion I haven't even taken it out of the box yet but today ifall goes well I will and get it prepared thank you itwas very helpful.
Hi Ed! Thanks for giving such a thorough review of the generator. I’m impressed with the design and that they include all the tools you need and exactly the right amount of oil. The oil drain hose is nice too. Well done and thanks for sharing!
Just bought this on a great sale from Amazon and love your review and setup. I agree it is heavy but the handle really helps. I’ve been using a 3/4” plywood ramp but am seriously thinking about buying the harbor freight hinged ramps for my pickup. With the $500 off on the generator, I can spend the $150 for the ramps. They fit well in the bed and will allow me to easily get it in and out of pickup and will allow me to get an electric bike up there when I decide to get one. I love that it can run my camper a/c and electrical when needed. Thanks again. Very thorough video (might want to clamp that plywood down on the sawhorses next time though. Lol)
I just ordered one of these from Amazon with delivery expected in a month or two . perfect timing! We just went 5 days without power at our home so i ordered this generator that i can use hopefully occasionally and use propane at least at the beginning of an outage since gasoline goes bad pretty quickly . Having the option of running either gas or propane is great. The inverter supplies power that is as clean as home power and the genny is QUIET compared to an open frame model. Very nice video that covers all the important topics
@@MyClutteredGarage As it turned out, my generator was delivered inly two weeks after I ordered it. Haven't fired it up yet aa I want all the proper supplies for breaking it in. Champion does not provide an actual detailed procedure so between what I have gotten from tech support and articles and videos I will soon spend a day going overboard to do the break in.
Thank you for the very good review. Amazon has these for $1360. Which was about $500 more than I wanted to spend. But I liked that is fairly quiet. So maybe its worth it.
Thank you for sharing this presentation, by far one of the best. I never thought about using the milk crate for keeping the propane tank from tipping, like why didn't I think of that...great video, Thank you !!
Thanks for the review! Decided to order 2. Dual fuel IMO is the way to go. Received the Parallel kit now waiting on the Gens. I plan on putting in a 50 amp connection at my homes panel. No more sitting in the dark and plenty of power while boondocking!!!
I was thinking about buying one of these for a backup at my house only because my grandpa always had a generator in his garage and used it a few times during storm power outages. Wouldn’t wanna power my whole house but would be nice to plug in freezer or stove
Great vid Ed. Concerning gas vs propane. Gas has an energy content of about 116k of BTU’s while propane only has about 84k, giving gas more kick over propane.
Hey Ed, I have the model made before this one--a little less capacity, but basically the same thing. Anyway, I replaced the start battery with a Shorai LFX14A4-BS12 lithium battery. Now I never have to trickle charge it and it starts right up, even after months of sitting. Just thought I'd let folks know that a lithium start battery is an excellent upgrade! PS, that pull-start was impossible for me. Maybe I'm too weak ;)
I had that same generator and sold it with my last camper. I tried to buy it back before buying this one. I really liked it a lot. Even though this one puts out a little more juice, I was completely happy with the other one.
Very nice video really appreciate all your hard work on it just one suggestion you might want to read the manual on the item you're reviewing so you don't have to guess as to how to operate the machine
Really enjoyed this video. I'm glad you took the time to do a real practical usage video as opposed to a simple unboxing and startup. As it relates to the difference in power between the gasoline and propane, that's because gasoline is more dense from an energy perspective than propane for the same quantity of fuel. I recently purchased one of these generators as well and expecting delivery soon.
You should follow the manufacturer's break in procedure. There are various takes on this, which may be better, one way is to inject some oil in the spark plug hole, reinstall spark plug, run 60 minutes without load, change the oil, use some oil conditioner. Restart, and vary the load up to 1/2 capacity and run with and without ECO mode to vary RPM for several hours. Change the oil again and it should be ready to use.
Nice review Ed…I went with the RV ready champion 3400 inverter for our Jay Flight. I love the remote FOB for starting it and shutting it off while you’re in the camper. This one definitely has some improvements over mine.
This was a great review for me. I am looking for a generator to run my trailer. I have the exact trailer that is in this video. It seems quiter then I was expecting. Thank you for video.
@@MyClutteredGarage I ended up going with the westinghouse 4500dfc. A few reasons :1 when shutting down the fuel in the carburetor is used up. 2 it comes with a battery charger so I don't have to use a battery tender. 3 remote start. If it gets hot in the middle of night, I don't have to go outside to start it up.
Thanks Chris. I used it for the first time camping a few weeks ago. Really pleased with it! Hard to beat that Honda 3000, but the extra watts are nice to have. Not to mention the dual fuel capability.
Any long term update on this Generator? I have had several Champion generators and have had zero issues with them and am considering the 4500w inverter next.
Thanks, Mark. I'm still very happy with it. I recently went camping and boondocked in parking lots at night. I used gas in it and it ran my camper air conditioner for over 7 hours on a single tank.
You can definitely save some money if you don’t need it as quiet. I wouldn’t recommend an open frame generator for public camping. Thanks for watching.
I picked up a Champion 90014 open frame inverter generator. It has the same running watts as this model. Because it is open frame and doesn’t have electric start it is only 79lbs instead of 103lbs. It is also dual fuel but only is 3 DB louder than the enclosed model which I think is negligible. The weight shedding is more worth it in my opinion. Plus it’s easier to access for maintenance tasks. Pull start is super easy. Champion makes nice generators so you cannot go wrong either way.
FYI, Champion doesnt provide a detailed break in procedure for this genny. I have contacted tech support and the most theyve told me plus what little is in the manual is that you should break in with the supplied 10-W30 oil for 5 hours with the option of running a full synthetic 5W-30 oil after that. Breaking in using eco mode is OK with Champion. MY process is going to be - Squirt a little Lucas Oil Conditioner into the cylinder after pulling the spark plug. Fill with 10-W30 (including a little Lucas conditioner) and cap with a magnetic dipstick. 10 slow pulls on the pull start before replacing spark plug to prevent a dry start. Run for one hour on eco mode with a 100-200 watt load. Change oil, fill with regular 10W-30, run for one hour with eco mode OFF and a small load under 500 watts. Change oil again, run with eco mode on for one hour at 500 watts, a second hour at 1000 watts, alternating with eco mode on and off, run a third hour with a 1500 to 3000 watts with eco mode on and off. Change oil and fill with full synthetic 5W-30 oil.
I think it’s just magic. I think it’s odd that there is no switch to choose the fuel. I don’t know the answer, but I’m thinking that propane would be the default fuel, since it is pressurized.
These gen seem amazing , looking for a unit to run my 15,000 btu AC on my camper with doing other stuff , i have heard the yamaha are king of the hill ! The price is very high but buy one cry once Our camper is 25 foot with basic stuff Do u have a good recommendation or just break down and get one of these babys Honda does not have one one in this size that will pull this load i am asking without getting to big and are the yamaha fuel injected , this may be the way to go when u get up in the moutains Thanks for input The cheaper ones have alot of options but will they last
I’m no expert, but I think this generator will run your RV just fine. I don’t know anything about the Yamaha, but fuel injection sounds nice. I’m still happy with this one. 👍
I just bought one of these and did the break in process on it. It's to bad the duel fuel doesn't get the remote start that's a neat feature to have as well. I wonder if it can be easily added or if it's built into the inverter block itself
I know while in the military we were not allowed to use electronics or even key a mic around diesel or JP8 fuel. It could cause an explosion. It may be the reason but I really don't know.
My 30 amp RV has a 15k btu Coleman Mach A/C. I want this generator to run my A/C and 12v fridge for at least 12 hrs if there is a power outage. Will this work?
I’m no expert, but considering that this ran my 13.5k AC and the microwave at the same time, with room to spare, I’d say it would run it just fine. Thanks for watching. -Ed
Does anyone know if it is better to plug in the extension cord before starting (making sure nothing is powered on yet so not under load) rather than after?
I don’t know officially but if it’s not under any load, there should be no issue plugging in the cord before starting. I generally start first, then plug in though.
Very nice generator! I agree propane is probably the way to go on a generator due to the crappy ethanol gas these days. That stuff will mess up a small engine in no time if left sitting for very long. Oh my you just about lost thing off the horses 🤦♂️! If I needed a generator I’d probably most definitely get one of these, I like it!

I love that it can run my camper a/c and electrical when needed. Thanks again. Very thorough video (might want to clamp that plywood down on the sawhorses next time though. Lol)
Thanks so much for your kind comments! 😄
Lauri, may I ask what price u got it for? Thinking of putting this on my black Friday or prime day shopping list!
$750. At the time when I was looking, Amazon was at $1200 for the 4500 watt dual fuel one so when they discounted by $500 felt like a good deal.
Great review! Our family is going to try the 4650 and run a TV too. We will see how that goes. Thank you for a great review!
Thank you. I'm sure that will work out great! -Ed
great video, just bought this for our crazy weather here in North TX and our unreliable power grid, thanks!
Nice! I’m still very happy with it!
Grid is fine in TX. It's the PUC members who don't even live in the state calling the shots.
Gracias muy buena reseña aunque mi idioma nativo es español fue muy gratificante ver cada paso como poner a funcionar el inverter generator...GRACiAS
Easy to follow thanks for the help. After hurricane Milton Tampa
Good luck! I hope you’re ok!
Good tip putting the propane tank in milk crate, should make it a lot less likely to tip when transporting.
Thanks very much. I must have gotten lucky, because mine was delivered in less than 2 weeks. I appreciate your kind comments. -Ed
@@MyClutteredGarage
As it turned out, my generator was delivered inly two weeks after I ordered it.
Thank you. You don’t need it to run on propane, the gas-only model is very quiet too.
@@MyClutteredGarage ah! Thank you again. Good information
@@Bergarita Home Depot sells them for $300.00 less than Amazon.
@@BonnieBlue2A I know that now. I recently bought one! Thanks :)
I keep my generator on a lawn mower frame. Easy to push and back up to a dirt bank and load it in the truck
Thank you for sharing this presentation, by far one of the best. I never thought about using the milk crate for keeping the propane tank from tipping, like why didn't I think of that...great video, Thank you !!
Thank you for your kind comments. Glad you enjoyed the video. -Ed
Thanks for the review! Decided to order 2. Dual fuel IMO is the way to go. Received the Parallel kit now waiting on the Gens. I plan on putting in a 50 amp connection at my homes panel. No more sitting in the dark and plenty of power while boondocking!!!
Very nice, Bryan! I have no experience using the parallel kits but that sounds awesome. Thanks for watching! -Ed
So they talked you into posting it
Those dual fuel generators are nice
I give in too easy 😄
I was thinking about buying one of these for a backup at my house only because my grandpa always had a generator in his garage and used it a few times during storm power outages. Wouldn’t wanna power my whole house but would be nice to plug in freezer or stove
It would be great for any 110v appliances. 👍
Great vid Ed. Concerning gas vs propane. Gas has an energy content of about 116k of BTU’s while propane only has about 84k, giving gas more kick over propane.
Thank you, Robert! That makes sense!
Thank you. I can’t dispute that! 😄
I enjoyed this. Thanks, Eric
Thanks Eric. Much appreciated. -Ed
Thank you for your kind comments AND for the LP vs gasoline lesson. Obviously I’ve barely used it, but I’m definitely impressed. Enjoy!
Thank you for this video! I was looking hard at this exact same generator and now I have it ordered!
I hope you’re as pleased as I am! 👍
Thanks bud, think I've made my decision, gonna follow suit, cuz of the propane feature
Thanks Mike. I was really torn between dual fuel vs remote start. That fob would be nice!
Will 3400 run everything in a 30 ft camper with 2 ac units??
This was a great review for me. I am looking for a generator to run my trailer. I have the exact trailer that is in this video. It seems quiter then I was expecting. Thank you for video.
Thanks, David. I’ve been very impressed and happy with Champion products.
@@davidroberts677 I do wish the propane champion had remote start! The gas model does.
Really appreciate the review. I have an older Honda 3000 inverter. I think I'm going to add the generator and your video to my collection
Thanks Chris. I used it for the first time camping a few weeks ago. Really pleased with it! Hard to beat that Honda 3000, but the extra watts are nice to have. Not to mention the dual fuel capability.
Hi, thanks for the video, please, do you have a video where you extract the gasoline from the generator for storage? Thank you
Thank you. I don’t, but maybe that would make for a good topic.
this thing is looking solid as far as features. Just bought a Honda lol
You won’t regret that!
Excellent video 😎
Thanks very much!
Great review, thank for sharing.
Any long term update on this Generator? I have had several Champion generators and have had zero issues with them and am considering the 4500w inverter next.
It has only been used moderately, but it works great every time!
Great video!
Sold! Put one in the basket today!
You won’t be disappointed!
Great video. I think this is the one I need to buy. Thanks
Thanks, Mark. I'm still very happy with it. I recently went camping and boondocked in parking lots at night. I used gas in it and it ran my camper air conditioner for over 7 hours on a single tank.
Just bought one on Amazon 730 dollars be here Saturday with propane and remote start
Great deal! I didn't think remote start was available on the propane versions. I'd confirm before it ships!
@@MyClutteredGarage your right
4500? I want to get one, but Amazon is over a grand. That is one heck of a deal if so.
@@grth3929 it didn't have the propane hook but everything else 730 dollars
Champion has this generator in a open case that is much lighter, but not as quite. The tank on the open is much larger too.
You can definitely save some money if you don’t need it as quiet. I wouldn’t recommend an open frame generator for public camping. Thanks for watching.
Open frame vs insulated inverter generator are apples and oranges
Good evening ED, I will look it tomorrow ( going to bed right now !!! ) Cheers
When he talked to Siri my phone responded to it. 😅 thats freaky. Anyway, Good video 👍
We must sound alike! 🤣
Nice addition for your camping trips Ed!
I used it a lot while camping last week. I love this thing!
MY process is going to be -
Squirt a little Lucas Oil Conditioner into the cylinder after pulling the spark plug.
That’s quite a break-in process!
Pop!! Ohhh! My back!!😂😂😂😂 I’ll continue this video at a later date! 😅
🤣🤣🤣
Yay! Thanks for publishing today, Ed. Watching later tonight. :)
Nice Video thnks , just a question if you tried how many hours can work continuously? Happy new year also
Thanks. I’ve run it overnight with the RV air conditioner running. That was like 8 hours on gasoline. I haven’t tried a long run on propane.
Good review keep it up you just talked me into buying one picking it up today 💪🏾💯
Thanks for your kind comment. Enjoy! -Ed
If the tank has gasoline in it & also hooked to propane which fuel becomes the default ?
Is there a switch to go between the 2 fuels ?
I think it’s just magic. I think it’s odd that there is no switch to choose the fuel. I don’t know the answer, but I’m thinking that propane would be the default fuel, since it is pressurized.
The choke does not need to be used when operating on propane.
Just ordered one 👍
These gen seem amazing , looking for a unit to run my 15,000 btu AC on my camper with doing other stuff , i have heard the yamaha are king of the hill !
The price is very high but buy one cry once
Our camper is 25 foot with basic stuff
Do u have a good recommendation or just break down and get one of these babys
Honda does not have one one in this size that will pull this load i am asking without getting to big and are the yamaha fuel injected , this may be the way to go when u get up in the moutains
Thanks for input
The cheaper ones have alot of options but will they last
I’m no expert, but I think this generator will run your RV just fine. I don’t know anything about the Yamaha, but fuel injection sounds nice. I’m still happy with this one. 👍
@MyClutteredGarage firman has a decent one , guess just pick one , thanks for hitting me back
Thank you
Well done!
Thank you, Mike!
Can I use it to run by 14k dtu window ac through the summer
I’m sure it will run it, but that’s a lot of fuel through the summer!
I just bought one of these and did the break in process on it. It's to bad the duel fuel doesn't get the remote start that's a neat feature to have as well. I wonder if it can be easily added or if it's built into the inverter block itself
That would be nice indeed!
I know while in the military we were not allowed to use electronics or even key a mic around diesel or JP8 fuel. It could cause an explosion. It may be the reason but I really don't know.
Nice little generator Ed, noise level is pretty good 👍🏻. I like the fact it’s dual fuel 👍🏻. Have a great week 🙂🙋🏼♂️👍🏻
Nice Review
Thank you, Ken! -Ed
Good video
I live in Canada and our cold would kill the battery. Will the pull cord start the generator?
Hi. Yes it starts well with the pull cord. Thanks for watching.
-Ed
It will run it but you will have to refuel most likely. Under heavy load it won't run 12 hours in hot summer temp without refueling
thank you so much for this informative video. one question. what if i dont remove those brackets from underneath? how will that affect the generator?
Thanks for watching. I’d say it would vibrate pretty violently if you left those brackets in place.
Does anyone know if it is better to plug in the extension cord before starting (making sure nothing is powered on yet so not under load) rather than after?
I don’t know officially but if it’s not under any load, there should be no issue plugging in the cord before starting. I generally start first, then plug in though.
A good Video...
Thanks pops
Good video. Thanks
Thank you!
That is a nice setup. That is sooo quiet. The open ones there would have been no way you could have talked during your closing. Thks
Thanks Jeff. I’m definitely impressed by how quiet it is.
Even with the exchange and picking it up at the border this will be a good buy. Now I just need a reason to buy it! Good job Ed. Cheers Mark
Thanks, Mark. Do you REALLY need a reason to buy a back up generator? 😄
@@MyClutteredGarage according to my finance department as Tim would say.
