It is a little different to whip because there is no rotational inertia that a gas engine has but otherwise it flys the same. Once you get used to it there isn't much of a difference. The one thing I think it does best is handle in the turns. It does really well compared to the other bikes I have ridden. Producing batteries has an initial upfront environmental cost but over the lifetime of the bike it more than makes up for that, particularly if you charge it off of grid power which I mostly do.

By its design, an IC engine can only reliably spin up to a certain mark, around 7,000rpm for the average petrol-powered road car. They also only make useable and peak torque in a narrow rev band. Thus, a gearbox is used to vary the effective torque and speed as required by differing driving conditions.
Clutch is pretty self explanatory as well.

I predict 2023 will show us production EMX bikes. You learn how to jump electric with the power flat kind of like a 125. There’s no way to judge speed (no gears or noise really) so it makes you really good at timing. The hand brake is kind of awesome, but it got me in trouble a few times when instincts kicked in, so foot brake went on. My left hand is bad too. I’m going to fab some parts so I can run both though, it’s killer to slip the brake for hard pack corner traction.
H8rs will hate, but I bought a KTM due to being in business still. Map 3 on the KTM would be perfect on this track, but it doesn’t have enough juice to clear that table-table. Any bigger of a track and it would be worthless until we can figure out how to overclock the motor. It’s flat at basically 40mph. Like being stuck in 3rd on a 250F. It’s about Map 2 Alta equivalent. They’re insanely fun. Volhand and Musquin ride them. I just had a full suspension job (needs it) for MX. Can’t wait to get back on (injured). I was without a gas bike for a few months and never missed them at all. I got Ryan Hughes on it and he had a blast 🤣

No such thing as truly clean energy, electricity is in most cases 'cleaner' because even if that power comes from fossil fuels it's more a more efficient way of delivering power compared to a mechanical transmission in most circumstances. It's a non issue with bikes as they are absolutely tiny portion of energy consumption. A "dirty" motorbike is still a much better form of transport for the environment than just about any car.

Personally, I think it was a mistake of Alta to go after the motocross market alone. Were they competitive, certainly, but without the actual ability to legally race them with gas powered bikes, it was a useless experiment. My belief is that they should have gone after the enduro and trail rider market. Many people buy these, by the great amount of KTM/Huskys out there, this segment is proven to spend the money for a quality bike. It would have been good all year for those areas that adhere to sticker seasons, and maybe even allowed in areas that normally close due to fire dangers in the summer. AND, you could still take it to the track as you can any bike if you wanted to. The problem is I never saw the battery longevity issue discussed in depth. It was suggested they could run a long time but it's like Alta was afraid of being considered a non-competition bike and so they ignored we trail riders. I personally would have loved to buy one if it was proven it could last a day riding/racing enduros/hare scrambles, etc... Even their test rider, Kris Keefer is a moto-crosser at heart and almost always discusses bikes, setup, EVERYTHING as a moto-crosser, not an enduro/trail rider. This is jut my opinion, yours may differ.

Imagine having a electric pro category in addition to the AMAs 250 and 450 series one day. Hearing the Riders shout and making noises on TV while battling mid-Moto xDD

That was a great review ! It covered all the things i care about (both in engaging discussions and in the "on point" video of challenging track conditions). And i really like what i saw. I want one ! I guess in 5 years battery life is a nonnissue. Driv to track in yur tesla pickup, supercharge the bike between motoa drom the truck. No more generators 👍. Good job guys 😁

Thanks!! That’ll definitely be me in the Tesla pickup and Ebike. I’m ready! 😬

@@AjCatanzaro Do you know that in case of an e-car only the production of the battery uses as much energy as an average car running average miles uses in 8 years? The same energy is enough to run about 200.000 km, that's arround 125.000 miles, with a small gas-powered car. That all without the e-car having moved for one single inch. Surely you've heard about the problems of the extraction of the needed lithium and cobalt for nature and people. The politicans like to keep silence about these probs cause the only big advantage of e-mobility is it keeps the smoke out of our cities. The immens pollution caused by the energy production needed alone for the battery production is kept quiet about. All experts know hydrogen will be the future but it still will take some time to get it usable for everyone. Selling e-cars and bikes is big business but in ten years they will tell us we all need hydrogen cars. So to me all of this e-stuff is no good idea at all.

@@AjCatanzaro Btw I got no idea if any of these batteries will last for 8 years but I'm quite sure it never will run about 125.000 miles.

@@mxrider4222 It won't. Not in real world usage. Working with some Zero bikes and E-scooters, you can be sure that present battery tech does not hold up to it's promises in most cases. In 15 years, who knows. But like you wrote, EV industry has allot of back stage issues that people like to ignore.

@@mxrider4222 Your numbers would be spot on, if you're comparing an electric Hummer battery to a Fiat 500 ICE car.
Once they start going, the electric Hummer gets somewhere around 75+ MPGe, compared to a Fiat 500 getting 28/33 MPG.
Oh, and that electric Hummer battery will last for over half a million miles with no significant maintenance, unlike the Fiat 500 with which you'd be lucky to last 200k without serious engine work.

I really really want one even tho they sound really .... underwhelming. Even if it sounded smoother I could dig but that grinding electric sound isn’t my thing. Sounds clunky tho I know it’s not. I’m sure it sounds different in person?

I wonder if Alta was too early, or if they just got bit by being a small mfg when the housing crisis hit.
Would be very cool to see them come back, or a new company buy their tech, and run an SX-E series.

Why do I feel like Karen next door would still complain even if we all had electric bikes lol .
Sound is one of the biggest reasons many purchase motorcycles/atv's/cars/trucks .
Seems like they're taking the soul out of the vehicle by going electric. Also, going electric doesn't appear to be a "green" or "enviromentally' friendly as the governement and media is letting on to be.
