    I can see why the Sharks didn't go for the veggie ice cream. A full serving of veggies is in one container of ice cream. The package says the container contains 3.5 servings of ice cream. So to get your serving of veggies (the whole container) you need to eat 595 calories! It's not worth it!

      I think part of that is also that they don't have giant factories to do it, everything costs more when you are doing it in small batches. If any of these got really popular, they would be able to make them cheaper.
      That said, yeah, I wouldn't buy any of them for myself because of the price.

    • @ThatSoddingGamer
      @ThatSoddingGamer 2 года назад +36

      @@shanethrelfall416 It's the lack of large factories and existing footholds, as well as high up-front costs (they have to pay off the cost of acquiring those factories somehow). That, and the specialization needed in the production which is added cost. A lot of products can just slap on a small 'may contain allergens' warning and they're good, but most of these products are aimed at people who need assurances that the food is safe for them. All of this adds to the production cost.
      There is also the thought that at least some of these product might contain higher quality ingredients than run of the mill snacks, since they'd need to rely on their base ingredients tasting better, as they can't include as many additives to artificially improve the flavour, since again these are aimed at health conscious people, and some people are sensitive to certain additives (like MSG. That's a perfectly safe ingredient unless you're one of the unlucky people who have a bad reaction to it).
      Basically, every aspect of production of these products is of higher cost than more common alternatives. It's not like they're expensive because they think ripping people off is a good business strategy.

    • @scaper8
      @scaper8 2 года назад +10

      Although you're almost certainly right, the problem of marketing it that way is than no one wants to admit (usually even to themselves) that they're the kind of person to eat a pint of ice cream themselves in a sitting and nary a vegetable in a day. You'd "insult" your customer base and get next to no sales.

They don't carry all the flavors, but if you subscribe to their text messages, they always hand out 20% off codes for the website. Our favorite flavors are the lemongrass coconut, the lavender cucumber, and the cactus Rose, the peppermint watermelon just doesn't do it for us. I don't know if Walmart has a Sam's Club version of flavored sparkling water or NOT, but their sodas are good, so I'd be willing to try them if they're available. La Croix is ALSO a really good brand, but it IS a bit more pricey than the store brands. But honestly, Bubbly $u¢k$, even their flavorings for the Soda Stream do.

    I feel like unless you have extremely picky kids you could get them to eat one serving of vegetables if they were promised a pint of ice cream afterwards. That's probably a lot cheaper.

    With vegetable ice cream, they choose vegetables that don’t have much flavor. They do the same with shakes, like with a Vitamix, you pack it full of spinach, because it doesn’t have much flavor and it’s flavored like the fruit you mix it with

    This was tons of fun to watch! The only tiny bit of advice for something I would have enjoyed hearing about, would be a brief overview of the "hook" or appeal of each product. Like what is the big pitch/angle on each of these vs their competitor? Especially for P-nuff, is it a low calorie snack? High protein? Same with the egg chips, i assume they are lower calorie, but was thinking a brief comment on what is a major draw to each of these would be fun. Food for thought :D

    Yeesh... the shamelessness of some of these brands. I've definitely had mushroom "jerky" before, but it was from an asian grocery and was not especially pricey. But like... eh... as an example, I used to work at Sbux. One New Year's, we had "champagne flavored gummy bears" on the shelves. If someone was interested enough to pick them up, they put them down when they saw the price. Kept them around until they expired and we had to toss them - like those $5-$7 protein cold brews too, which I thought were drinkable, but most other employees and customers didn't. People would order one, we'd keep an eye on them, soon they would wander up to the counter and apologize and we would tell them, would you like a frappuccino instead? Yes they would. But supposedly those foods did great in test markets... with rich people in Seattle. If a food is on the champagne-gummy-bear or protein-cold-brew end of the spectrum, it's not a good thing.
