I see you don't get enough comments so let me comment and say : Congrats on your channel. I enjoy a lot the structure of your videos and I hope to see you do an overview of Miles Morales Omnibus. I am new to collected editions and decided to purchase Ultimate Spider-Man Omnibus vol 1 as my first ever Omnibus. Keep posting those videos !!!

Dude. You just made my day. I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos and that they’ve been able to help you, as that’s my goal - I’m just having fun and want to help people explore these books!
Besides that, welcome to collected editions! Ultimate Spider-Man is a fantastic choice for your first omnibus, I hope you like it! I have both of the Miles omnis so I’ll definitely do videos on those books once I’m able to read them :)

I’m glad to hear it, spread the word! 😄 The tone in this book is so good… I just wish the run could have gone on longer instead of switching to the Burnside era…

Great video mate, I been trying to get more in to comics, do you have any omnibus recommendations that are completely self contained stories that I don’t have to have read anything else before or read anything after to understand it please? This seems to fit that criteria so I’ll definitely be picking it up thanks to your video. Thanks man.

First of all, welcome to comics! 🙂 As for recommendations, it depends on what you’re looking for. Are you more into Marvel or DC? Any particular characters, genres, or types of stories you’d be interested in?

@@SuperFlyComicsGuy uh I’m open to suggestions, I like both marvel and dc, the only superhero I’m not a fan of is superman. Big fan of spiderman, punisher and Batman villains though

Okay I can think of a few that may fit your criteria. To keep it fair, I’ll only recommend stories I’ve read and reviewed on the channel before, so you can check the reviews for more info if you’re interested 🙂
      - Ultimate Spider-Man Vol 1
I know it says “Vol 1” but trust me, this is probably the best starting point for Spidey for a newcomer to comics. It was the series that got me into comics! Focuses on a younger Spider-Man in his high school years, it basically takes the origin of Spider-Man and modernizes it, so you don’t have to worry about any continuity at all. The movies have taken lots of inspiration from this series. And if you end up liking it, you can continue the other volumes!
      - Batman by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale
Probably the best “one-and-done” Batman omnibus, while also being excellent for beginners. This is where you’ll find stories like The Long Halloween and its sequel, Dark Victory, two of the most highly praised Batman stories out there. Essentially a pair of murder mysteries set early in Batman’s career. Heavy inspiration for Nolan’s Dark Knight movies.
      - Batman: The Hush Saga
This essentially combines Batman Hush and stories from the Batman by Paul Dini omnibus, both of which I’ve reviewed, into one book. Batman Hush is an excellent choice for a new reader, especially for that amazing Jim Lee artwork. It’s a shameless action blockbuster, so the story has some plot holes, but it’s just fun, and introduces you to lots of Batman villains and supporting characters if you aren’t already familiar.
      - Injustice Vol 1
I know, I know, another “Vol 1”, but this series only has 2 volumes. Essentially a “what if Superman turned evil” story, featuring basically the entire DC universe. I know you said you’re not a fan of Superman, but he’s the antagonist in this story, so maybe that’ll work for you 😛 It’s basically like DC’s Civil War, with Batman’s Insurgency vs Superman’s Regime.
      - Aquaman by Geoff Johns
“Aquaman is lame”. Well that’s exactly what this book expects you to think, and it will change your mind. It takes Aquaman and makes him cool, and this story is basically one big action movie from start to finish, with some spectacular artwork as well. No additional reading required, everything you need is in this book.
      - Venom by Donny Cates
The God of the Symbiotes is coming to Earth, and Venom needs to do something about it. One of my favourite reads of last year. An epic story with breakneck pacing pretty much all the way through. It’s action-packed, but also has a lot of heart, and serves to humanize Eddie Brock, flesh out his backstory and relationships with other characters. If you’re a fan of symbiotes, this story is for you, and it’ll do a good job of explaining anything you need to know along the way, so it stands well on its own.
I hope that’s enough to get you started for now! I didn’t mention any Punisher books because I haven’t gotten around to reading them yet, but I know Punisher MAX by Garth Ennis gets a lot of love, so that might be something to look into as well.
Let me know if you have any other questions, I’d be happy to help! And happy reading!

As a huge Barbara Gordon fan I really loved this run, Gail Simone really nailed it.
The Burnside era was a massive letdown imo
