Nice review and can’t wait to get mine. If you like SRPGs you will love these. We really need more PS2 games brought over to modern systems. So many games like Wild Arms, Xenosaga, Shadow Hearts are all locked to old systems.
Just emulate them on pc or put the hack your switch if you have the first version and you can play the old titles and download the new titles as well. You can play snes, n64, ps1, ps2, psps, ds and more games.
I love soul nomad and wish there was a 2nd game. It reminded me a lot of ogre battle which is another game i loved dearly for the n64. I replayed it many manu timea. Soul nomad had a very mature and not very sensitive tone which i loved and found it refreshing in a game.
Im not to fond of phantom brave since i didnt like it when i first play it a long time ago. But i love soul nomad. So still gonna buy that collection. I just hope i'll enjoy phantom brave this time cuz i remember weird but nice idea with the battle mechanic
I hope its priced apropiately at least, personally i'm ok with barebones ports to modern platforms and a fair price and of course mostly if they are games that are hard to get for their original platform. I haven't played either so definitely getting this.
Is this Phantom Brave different from the one previously released on Steam? They seems to be near Disgaea, substituting the rot of being grind based for being dated instead, so should still be worth playing.
Important question!!: If these games are a test to see what the creators can do then what would you recommend that is a great game from NIS because I love these games?
Same! But to my understanding. There are issues with the Makai Kingdom name or something. There were a bunch of issues with the psp game that was never released and another project involving it.
I played both of these games in my early adult years and I think their good games. Of the two though Phantom Brave is definitely the better of the two in terms of story and game design. The story of Marona and her companion Ash is heartwarming as all Marona wants is friends and a place to call her own and what lengths she'll go to protect both. Soul Nomad however sounded good in concept but it's rather unbalanced in terms of it's tone and storytelling for me, not a bad game but certainly a nobel effort.
The two games are so different in terms of gameplay and tone. Soul Nomad's evil route made some headlines back in the day for having some pretty messed up content...like non consensual relations with your sister after her mind was altered.
Yea! I could have made the whole review about the different routes and how Gig would be cancelled today :P dropping F bombs and hard Rs all over the place
I haven't played these games but like a lot of other NIS games, but your review leaves me wondering if they're worth the money :/ sadly switch games rarely get cheaper so it's not much use waiting for a sale..
I think its releasing at time where we don't actually need a collection. I think if this were to release around Christmas it would do better. Such a nice Christmas vacation game hah

I can't wait to get my copy as well! I preordered it on Amazon.

Soul Nomad is one of my all time fav! Glad to see it finally remastered

I wish these were separate releases. They're like that on the Japanese eShop. And I've already played Phantom Brave on the Wii.
I heard Soul Nomad had lots of bugs/glitches in this version have you encountered any?

Nice! Phantom Brave is definitely worth it. Both are super unique SRPGs
I think it's $100... yeah
60 usd.

Hopefully it's the expanded version. It received bonus content during one of it's ports.
oh wow I remember trying soul nomad long ago thinking it was just another disgaea but it was nothing like it
Noisy pixels do you have a review of triangle stratey yet?
No :(

I feel like they should've swapped soul nomad for Maki kingdom since that and phantom brave play similarly
Same! But to my understanding. There are issues with the Makai Kingdom name or something. There were a bunch of issues with the psp game that was never released and another project involving it.
@@Dr.Moogle that's dumb ....jt wasn't bame changed back then why now?
I would like it because I only played like 2 hours of Makai Kingdom on PS2 lol I rented it

Is there a reason why you say this is the definitive edition of PB when the pc version is essentially the same?
Currently playing Soul Nomad. I experienced 2 crashes already. Screen will freeze mid battle. Did you experience that in your playthrough?
Yikes, that doesn’t sound good
I hope that the Makai Kingdom/ZHP is done a little better than this one! Makai Kingdom was so much fun!
Well off the bat it's the PSP one we never got, so more content.

I just got my physical version
....Ouch.
And Soul Nomad is actually pretty interesting too.
Especially if you know about its connections to Phantom Brave...
What a let down.
Yea, if you're trying to get into a weird game with a pretty dark narrative, I think Soul Nomad is a good pick up.
Nis better not be charging full price for this obvious cash grab job, but given how much they've been hurting for money lately...
I think PQube is selling it for $19.99
why do they always have to fuck remasters up with ugly ass pixel filters
It can be turned off for soul nomad at least for both the backgrounds and characters. I agree looks much better without
OVERPRICED...
NIS is just badly managed.
'feminine/masculine' gender choices means they went back and butchered the story cuz politics....
