So my best guess as to the reason why the McDonald's signs are missing panels is because of high winds/tornados. And the center of the universes echo is actually due to the buildings surrounding the circle the sound just bounces off them in the right way to give the trippy effect that yall were experiencing 😊
Yup 100% the panels blew away in the tornadoes and other high speed windstorms and were never replaced!
This comment reminded me of that song from the musical: "Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweeping down the plains!!!"
100% on the "center of the universe" thing too - there's a college local to me that has a similar thing going on. It's pretty neat!
Lol I miss Oklahoma and all its windy glory
I was just coming on to say the same thing. They are in tornado alley and the win resistance would cause the signs to be destroyed
Thank you all for stopping by Billy Ray's BBQ and including us in your video. I'm Billy Ray's son-n-law and wanted to let you know what an honor it was to be a part of your Tulsa experience! Even though Billy Ray has passed, my dear mother-in-law still owns and runs the restaurant today. We are a family owned business celebrating our 40th anniversary and we are honored to be a staple in this community. As Billy Ray would always say, "We Appreciate Ya'!"
I do not believe that
@@lukemclaughlin4723Actually his name checks out, Joe Turner is married to Billy Ray Cooper's daughter, Cindy Turner (formerly Cooper), and this guys name when you click through to his profile is Joe Turner.
BAHAHHAHA @@lukemclaughlin4723
I’m so happy you liked our zoo, I’m one of the zookeepers you met. I hope you made it to see the Chinese alligators also. I can’t wait to show this to my kids first thing in the morning. 💚
Ur so lucky to have met these fantastic people
That is awesome! Glad you were able to meet them!
I sent this to Marketing, I'm hoping they'll share this to our page lol hello from guest services!
In answer to your question about why all the McDonald’s arches are missing panels, it is because Oklahoma is mostly tornado alley. We get regular winds of 30+ miles per hour and only consider it a windy day if it gusts over 50 mph. If it is not a tornado doing damage, it’s the straight line winds and micro bursts taking out signs. It is also why we don’t have very many freestanding, tall trees. Clay soil and wind just aren’t great for growing tall, strong trees.
I used to live on a mountain where 50+ gusts were standard throughout the winter and none of the signs there were broken. 🤔 80mph gusts during winter storms weren't abnormal either (you'd still stay indoors when possible but things didn't shut down from the wind)
@@zebraloverbridget, I guess we just haven’t discovered the stronger signs then. The good ones are very expensive and could still get blown away by a tornado. So people just buy the cheaper ones because they are easier to replace quickly.
@@zebraloverbridgetYeah, I live in a beachy area with frequent high winds and our trees even grow kinda sideways due to the wind.
The only tall trees here are palm trees. And our McDs signs aren’t broken like that.
_But_ I can’t think of any signs here that are that tall. There must be a city ordinance that doesn’t allow them to build their signs that tall and I wonder if it’s due to either high winds or hurricane risk.
It just makes me wonder if Tulsa’s McDs signs would stay intact if they were shorter.
except for bald cypress's. cause they are indestructible. i do bald cypress bonsai for that reason
Why do they not damage anything else 😅
My boyfriend took me to the center of the universe after we got done bar hopping and my mind was blown 😂 but it’s due to a combination of the architecture and elevation. Super cool
Liverpool, UK has one too
There’s a mini version on some college campuses. 😂 Had a lot of fun with those at night, with no loud noises, a circular area in the path, surrounded by maybe 3’ walls. The stone echoes the sound back into the circle, rather than having it continue to travel. Also works well for small performances without having too much sound equipment, and those outside the circle don’t have very much sound to deal with. Actually, I think it caused microphone feedback at one point, lol. It’s like the mini version of an amphitheater.
ACU has one a bit different. You can whisper in the center and ppl all around can hear u like ur standing next to them.
Wow that sounds super awesome!!! Any idea what the crashing-planes tower was all about though?😂
Yea what's up with the planes!? Lol
The casually constantly opening the window gag was so freaking funny. I don’t know why but that was my favorite part of the video! Lol
How tf else would one open curtains besides casually? That's how you open curtains.
@@freighter1097 Have you never opened your curtains majestically? You're missing something.
@@Aleonore22 I live in hotels full time. I casually open the damn curtains.
I have no idea why everyone is jumping down your throat for saying “casually” opening window. Geez. Anyway, I agree I also enjoyed them casually constantly opening the blinds
@@andrea-rq1fe It was so casual. I love people casually opening curtains...
It would be so cool to get a full tour of Wilbanks, the incubator place but the little little clip that we saw was awesome. Yes, Stephen and Emily.
whos stephen
*Ed and Emily, lol. :)
Who is stephen? Ed is married to emily
Who’s Stephen?
lol - bulgogi. At least you tried 😂
That chocolate shop looked exquisite! I grew up in Kansas but never spent anytime in OK, but it looks like there are some fun things to see and do there. Thanks for playing hooky and showing us the town!
Nah nah nah, it’s definitely bologna 😉 lol jk bulgogi so yummy 🤤
And it'd pronounced bul·gow·gee
Glad to see y'all enjoyed Oklahoma while you were here
Edit: 6:57 Okies. For sure Okies
But oklahomies 😢
Aw I liked Oklahomies... But I'm a Ioweenie lol
Some of us *do* like that as an alternative 😉 @@hi_tech_reptiles
@@DeadBeatDingus I do like Oklahomies... I might start using that
Really? I thought it would've been the boring name of Oklahomans. Like I'm a Coloradan. I'm glad you guys aren't boring
I love you guys, been watching since Rex was in the basement trashing her pool and flooding the place!! I watch these videos to chill out in the evening and honestly you guys are awesome
Same I remember when she did that
Yeah, and they got a security camera to spy on her!
@@joannebazeley648 yeah that was so funny!
Same here
Yeah me too… how long ago was that? 🤔
As a New Zealander, seeing them specifically freak out about the Tuatara skeleton was really cool.
Edit: Just wanted to add that I also think it's great that Emily pronounced Tuatara correctly. Most people tend to butcher Maori names or not research them, so thank you for that
Yes! Tuatara are amazing animals. The museum in my home town had a massive habitat for them, and a breeding programme to boost the population. I got to hold one once and it was super cool. these animals can live such a long time its amazing.
@@itmakessenseincontext889 Yesss! Fellow kiwi. I also nearly died of laughter at seeing the "Yes they're real!" sign on it. Like, I can't tell if it's talking about the skeletons in general or like, that they're real creatures and that's so funny to me.
I was shocked to see it.The few Americans I know who don't live in Nz think they aren't real or have never heard of them.
Sameeee
@@itmakessenseincontext889 At the pyramid museum? I got to hold one as a kid too!
1:05 Well, Emily my friend, that is because we live in tornado alley and NOBODY ever bothers to fix em 😂
Yes! Why bother fixing them when the next storm is just going to take them down! I don’t live in tornado alley but we still get our fair share of tornadoes & high winds from hurricanes where I live in Mississippi and we feel the same way!
Ya, we were in Shawnee for an exotic pet show this summer and half the town still looked like the tornado hit that week, not the prior spring.
I’m a simple gal. I see Snake Discovery posted, I watch the video 😌

Bulgogi marinade is pretty easy to make at home, you can use
(for 1 lb of meat)
¼ cup onion purée
4 cloves of minced garlic
1 teaspoon minced ginger
1 chopped green onion
2 tbs soy sauce
2 tbs brown sugar
a pinch of ground black pepper
1 tbs toasted toasted sesame oil
You just slice the meat and leave it to marinate and then cook it up.
Ohhh. This has me excited to try! Thanks for sharing.
@@foxwoodjones9831 if your having trouble slicing the beef thin enough you can also buy "cheesesteak" styled sliced beef and use that.
Yes please please do a video on Komodos! They are my all time favorite monitor and I can go to our zoo here in NM and just watch them all day long. There is just something about them.
the fact that you highlighted those small businesses at the end was just so nice and amazing of you guys
Would LOVE a full tour of Wilbanks. What a great guy!
If you do go back to the Tulsa Zoo, def visit the rainforest exhibit. There is usually a red macaw or two right as you enter. One of them is a show off and loves having his picture taken! Plus you can see a sloth there sometimes!! It's also the warmest exhibit.
The skeleton museum is SO cool!! I went with my aunt and uncle a couple of years ago and they were working on one of the snakes right in front of us while we were there and told us all about the process.... highly recommend!!
Lol we had a vortex like that in my high school band room. Used to drive our teacher nuts and he put a taped X on it to remind himself to avoid it.
Yes! Komodo Dragons! There used to be one at the John Ball Zoo in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Every time I would go, it would wake up. My family had a running joke that it wanted to eat me!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
The answer for the McDonald's signs (at least i would assume, i do live one state away) is tornados/high winds! Run over to Missouri so i can meet you 😂
Go to the NARBC in St. Charles in the fall; they usually come down to visit then.
@@rebeccahahn6172 I didn't think about that lol thanks!
Totally could hear the echo when the camera was facing away THAT WAS SO COOL ❤
1. Definitely need a whole video on Wilbanks.
2. Awesome that you highlighted your classmates's businesses!
3. I'm so jealous of anyone who lives in the US and can order Glacier chocolates. They look absolutely scrumptious.
Yes, come back for a full tour of Wilbanks, and come while there is an Expo in Oklahoma City.
wow, I've live, in OK for close to 20 years and I live in Bristow, which is about 35 minutes from Tulsa, and I have never heard of Glacier chocolates. OK, next time I'm in Tulsa I'm going. Thank You Miss Emily and Ed. We are called Okies. Yes would love a full video on Wilbanks... Next time your' here I'd love a chance to meet Y'all.
FOR KBBQ: get the pork belly, lettuce, rice, and add sauce or kimchi. put everything into the lettuce leaf and eat it in one bite!! it’s called samgyupsal and it’s amazing!!!
Okie here! (Yes we call ourselves Okies) I had no idea Wilbanks was in OK and that they did so much breeding! The museum of osteology has a taxidermy center next-door and my first buck skull I got done through their company. They put such great detail and care into the bones they do. And yes, our McDonald’s signs are all messed up due to wind, hail, and tornadoes and corporate not caring enough to fix them. Next time y’all come to Oklahoma, you have to try Braum‘s ice cream. It’s local made and the flavors they have are incredible. Cappuccino chunky chocolate is my favorite.
Not surprised most of our McDonalds signs are missing pieces. We are in tornado alley after all! Lots of strong winds and tornados. A few months the wind was so bad to took some covering off the patio where I work.
Okies! It's the wind that makes it colder then it should! Born and raised here and I'm still not use to it haha
I'm gonna get myself a box of chocolate for my birthday because OMG, they all looked amazing!!! Also loved the windows session lol
I love the travel vlogs from Snake Discovery. Everything looked so fun. Yes I need another video, full tour of Wilbanks.
I live through these videos!! Since
I don't live in the US I miss out on all the fun stuff!!
I love that they opened the blinds someone closed them and they reopened them the next morning😂😂😂😂😂
The curtains actually work as a kind of insulator. Great way to keep your home warm & save some electricity in the winter :)
I love your guys videos so much! I suffer from depression and PTSD but your videos always brighten my day.Keep up the good work love you guys ❤
Hell yes, I want a full tour! Just lobe you guys, and love when you show other selllers.
I would love to see the Wilbanks video
If you ever go back to the Tulsa area, you should check out the Oklahoma Aquarium! it's a cool place (and my sister works there and also watches your videos)
My sis used to volunteer there!
15:35 That looks soooooo good! My mouth is watering.
IKR!! I got SOOOO hungry watching this; first chocolate and now a great looking supper?? I am STARVING so I'm gonna go get some Gummi worms rn 😂
You guys opening the blinds in every clip is so good 🤣
LISTEN IF YA'LL GO TO TULSA AGAIN YOU HAVE TO VISIT THE AQUARIUM! THEY HAVE A PAIR OF ALBINO TURTLES ON DISPLAY! They also have a good showcase of amphibians!
WOW that sounds TOO COOL! Albino turtles? Those are very rare and awesome ❤ also amphibians RULE (especially frogs!)
Ture ture
@@GrumpyLemur Ye! And if you end up in Tulsa Oklahoma, it's literally just called the Oklahoma Aquarium XD They have a ton of cool stuff and a gift shop you can go through ^-^
Emily is literally an adult version of me (I'm 13). My top favorite foods are Mac and Cheese and of course CHOCOLATE. Then the snake loving part is obvious. 😁
Thank you for featuring Glacier chocolates! I just got my first job and I might treat myself by ordering some of their chocolates with my first check, I want to do something special with it and I'm a huge chocolate fan so I'm definitely interested!
A tour of Wilbanks would be cool. I love your videos.
Dang wish I knew you was in Oklahoma! So a lot of our signs are damaged because of straight line winds , hail storms we have , tornadoes and yeah WINDS. Welcome to the plains !
I lived there just south of Tulsa, that is tornados that took the panels out. It takes out the billboards too. Okies call themselves Okies for the most part LOL
As an Oklahoman (we call ourselves Okies but the official term is Oklahomans) this video is wild to watch 😂 I’m glad you guys enjoyed our fly over state!
Liverpool, UK has a similar structure setup as the 'center of the universe' spot. Tons of fun to sit close by and see people that pass by as they talk suddenly get surprised.
Ooh if yall like Mac and Cheese there is a restaurant called Mac Cheezys in Joplin Missouri which is only about an hour and a half away from Tulsa. Their entire menu is different types of Mac and cheese.
There’s a place local to me that has a menu made up of only mac n cheeses and poutines! (I’m in Canada, in case that wasn’t obvious. Lol)
I need to go to this place
Where is it?
@@Thurston86 I'm in Ontario. Is this place anywhere here? 🥺🤤😉😂
I never even imagined there was a place like that but now that I know I feel like I need to go!!! 😂 YUMS ❤
I was literally in Tulsa just yesterday!!!
Also, the building Ed pointed out was the BOK tower. It was designed by the same architect that built the original World Trade Center in NY. And he basically halved the plans for one of the towers.
23:19 "It Echos!" That was truly the best part. :3
Native Oklahoman here! We call ourselves Okies most the time, and our mcdonalds signs are all tore up cause of the wind! Glad you enjoyed my home state as cold as it was❤❤
Yall have to go to the Tulsa Aquarium! Giant sea turtle, largest oldest logger head snapping turtle, electric eel they feed and they monitor the electric shocks it puts out into the water, and so much more. Very cool and one of the coolest Aquariums for exotics.
You need to come back to the Tulsa Zoo on a warmer day! They have an indoor Komodo exhibit in the lost kingdom that’ll knock your socks off. You’re 5ft or less from the dragon if it’s on the heat rock
23:41 As an Okie, I live in the Tulsa area, I am glad you had a good time. We have a lot of high winds which caused a lot of damage to signage. I wish I could have met you while you were here. I have been a viewer of your videos for years. I am 69 yrs old and have always been afraid of snakes. You have changed that for me. I am currently caring for a Western hognose in my home. His name is Hedgehog and a very good eater. I never thought I would ever keep frozen mice in my freezer, but here I am! Love you guys.❤
You guys are so much fun to watch it's like watching two kids
TWO MINUTES!!! (i've litterally been waiting for this all day)
Same
I live in Tulsa, and if you ever come back and need time to kill, I would love to see your reaction to The Gathering Place. It's a large playground area that spans 66 acers (will be 100 after plan c) that supports all ages. It's chocked full of natural native fauna and they try to put on small exhibits from time to time. The last one was a Native art exhibit from each 5 large tribes. The one they had recently was a sports exhibit.
It's a fun place if you need time to kill and want to just have fun.
16:58 - HECK YEAH TUATARA LOVE
can't see it on the video, but their teeth are basically a part of their skull, not just inci(dental)ly attached like ours.
It's funny because in NZ we have a lot of cold weather species in the Wellington Zoo, so in 2008 when it snowed there, they got a bunch of amazing shots of the animals being way more active than usual. -6°C is probably a bit chilly even for them though
I wonder if you two would like Mongolian barbeque - the way that's done is not allergy friendly tho. You choose what meats and veggies (and sauces) you want from the buffet lineup, then the massive grill is used, and it's like a cast iron pan where everything is cooked on it and it's seasoned from all the cooking.
I love how they keep opening the curtains. You know some worker is wondering what the heck/who the heck keeps opening them. xD
Also we are called "Okies" but if you have Oklahoma friends (and are young and hip) then we do use oklahomies 😂
Perfect timing for your nightly video it's starting to snow where I'm at we are getting another snow storm . I got my heated blanket, hot chocolate and my red iguana while watching your new video
Ooh a red iguana?! How beautiful ❤
The fact that they were on Oklahoma and I missed seeing them. What a bummer.
Oh my, YES. A tour of Wilbanks, please! 😻
First, yes I cannot wait for the big Wilbanks visit!
Second, the comment at the end about cats, yes I live that daily and loooove it.
So much fun seeing Oklahoma through your hooky playing eyes!
Good work!
I 100% want a full tour of Wilbanks! I also want some more green trees video's! They are gorgeous❤
As a Texan, I am VERY proud that Ed put us for better BBQ. We are the south of the south, the yee of the haws. And I love it.
Also... even if you are near Texas, that is nothing. Texas is HUGE. You are near the north part of Texas. Where it is cold and snowy. Do not forget the vastness of the state- it has everything
Also, go to Houston! The Houston Zoo has komodo dragons n such :)
Oh I can’t wait for your next Oklahoma adventure video. I would recommend you going back to the OKC Zoo they have Komodo dragons, the Tulsa aquarium, and try out a place called Martin Nature Park it’s not big and fancy but very pretty. Also I would love to see a Wilbanks video. There is also a brewery called Rough tail brewery. Also Okie.
The Atlanta Zoo in Georgia has a Komodo dragon and everyone is quite nice. You might be able to make a video on the komodo and their awesome reptile house! You could make use of your time there and explore other cool places like the Atlanta Aquarium and the botanical garden which are both absolutely stunning. There's also the world of Coca cola which is fun and has some pretty interesting stuff in it including a tasting room. There's also quite a few museums around that you could look at. I personally prefer the Fernbank Museum as it has an amazing nature walk and just various different things including an exhibit they change out often. They had a t-rex family tree exhibit for a little while and it was awesome. And if you want a creepy honorable mention check out doll head trail. It's exactly as it sounds.
Lol I love Ed casually opening those curtains. 😂 My family and I went to the Kansas City zoo in the middle of winter, everything was covered in snow and it was like 20 degrees out, we were the only people there, it was wild! A friend of mine took me to that bone museum a while back and yes it's so cool, I bought a set of shark jaws.
Omg, I always look forward to your videos and when I saw you were in Oklahoma it was a pleasant surprise. I've lived in and and around the Tulsa area and this video helped me learn a couple things even I didn't know about that I must check out for myself! TY Emily and Ed for sharing your adventures with us!
Also, the "we're above Texas it should be warmer in here" truly resonates with me. Oklahoma weather has a wacky mind of its own.
Congrats to all fifteen of the first people!!
As a Oklahoman/Okie who lives near Tulsa, it’s cool to see you visit familiar places.
I got to the Tulsa Zoo a lot, and I can 100% say, even when traveling, it’s still my favorite zoo. It could be a bit bias but it’s buildings and animal variety makes it stand out. Even comparing it to zoos like the Denver zoo, I still think the Tulsa Zoo is better.
Thank you for the great vlog=3 Have a nice weekend, Snake Discovery=3
I love snake discovery time. 🐍
The coldest weather I’d ever experienced was back in 2018 in Oklahoma. It was winter time and I was at Fort Sill during Basic Training for the Army, the temperature dropped to like 10 degrees with wind chill and me and the rest of my group huddled in the laundry room with the dryers on and the dryer doors open while wearing triple layers of clothing just to stay warm and that winter the base got completely snowed in and even hit with an ice storm
Yes we wanna see a full tour of Willbanks
Love the video! You getting excited about everything makes us excited about it. I totally would watch more like this!
Really fun to see you guys explore my old stomping grounds. Glacier is amazing and I've always had a special place in my heart for the zoo.
I live seeing your reptiles! I was always a big reptile fan and your videos make me so happy!
I love you guys ❤ you should check out the North Carolina Zoo
14:11 the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is usually pretty good with outreach programs, and they /do/ have Komodo’s. (At the very least you can get closer to them than you could here)
I'm proud to be an Okey from Muskogee
I went to the OKC zoo when it was 18 degrees out, weren't many animals but it was so nice being there with o little people! I prefer the herpetarium when they aren't packed with kids haha
Hi emily and Ed. Love your awesome work
Yes to the full tour! Thanks always for the great video.
It was so cool watching you guys visit another zoo and talk about the animals and their habitats and so on. Definitely something I have never seen on the channel and I really enjoyed it!
Cool to see you guys visiting my 2nd home state where my dad and his family live! They live in Southeast OK in the Ouachita Mountain area. Great area for herping! You can find rattlesnakes, copperheads and water moccasins all day and night! I grew up handling them... I lived in OK but I was a Florida man at heart.
Helloooo Finally new video, I recently subscribedd but used to watch your videos on and off 3 years ago!!! i'm amazed at how far you have all come and i like seeing that Ed is now out of his shell hehe
Excellent. Laughed and talked back to the computer through nearly all of that. Well put together video...and links too, very nice. Sending thanks to the the entire team for the consistent amazing work.
Next time you guys go to Florida you should try to check out Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay! It's a really popular amusement park and zoo. They have a Komodo Dragon exhibit and a bunch of other reptiles, as well as like 200 different species to check out!
Okay 4:37 all of these chocolates I have to say are GORGEOUS
