    update: just finished a 1300 mile 4 day offroad trip. the boots preformed perfectly. wore them 10-12 hrs a day w/o complaint from the feet. saved my foot/ankle bones several times (bike fell over on foot once and a couple 30 mph rock/stump kicks). w/o the boots it would have been a visit to the ER and quick end to the awesome trip.
    thx for the well in depth review. just the boot I was looking for. I bought them through Rocky Mountain sadly. If I didnt have enough to almost cover the price in RM cash, I would have gotten them through Atomic Moto.
    Keep up the non-biased reviews and I'll tell all my friends that I got my awesome new boots from you guys.

    I got back into riding in 2018 at age 67. I do not do off road. I bought a 2018 Harley Davidson Fat Bob FXFBS. I have dropped that bike 4 times. The last time I dropped it was on an East Coast trip at age 72 from Texas and it happened in North Carolina. My soft pannier grabbed my foot. It took 3 months for my ankle to heal. Long story short - I now own a Tiger 900 GT Pro and will be riding it from Texas to California. Although I won't be doing any off road I did buy the Gaerne Fastback Enduro Boots all black. I want to protect my feet/ankles just in case. It seems to be a good boot.

    After a little crash in the woods I decided to upgrade my boots. I called atomic moto and Brian was generous with his time and advice. If the SG 12 enduro was in stock I probably would have ordered them, but these are so much more protective than what I had been wearing. (Alpinestars Corozal). They are by far the stiffest and most protective boot I have ever owned. The boots were delivered quickly and well packaged. I bought the fastback enduro.

    I'm actually planning to procure this for touring purposes with mild offroading. I ride a RE Interceptor 650, hopefully it shouldn't be a problem with operating the vehicle.

    • @taherajna
      @taherajna 2 года назад +2

      Did you buy these? Honestly these would be a bit overkill in my opinion just for mild offroading. You are better off buying a nice pair of goretex adventure/touring boots instead for that price.
      I have been using the TCX Explorer evo gtx for about 4 years now, and i have dropped my Himalayan quite of few times on my foot by now and they work perfectly. My point being, you don't have to sacrifice comfort for so much protection when all you will be doing is mild offroading on your interceptor.

    • @dudefromcbee
      @dudefromcbee 2 года назад +1

      @@taherajna Hi Taher. That's how I started my search/research looking for basic touring boots and when I tried few, I wasn't convinced to pay for boots which would become like sneakers. With more reading and reviews, I ended up thinking about purchasing the Fastback. I haven't purchased it yet. Just that few of my friends stories have made me focus more on protection than comfort; MX boots might not be comfortable out of the box but eventually it would break-in and you will get used it. It would last longer too. But I get your point, perhaps Gaerne Dakar or SIDI Adv2 would be a better/comfortable alternative...

    • @taherajna
      @taherajna 2 года назад +2

      @@dudefromcbee yes definitely understand where you're coming from.
      The gaerne g dakar gtx is on my list as well, and they would be super comfortable to walk it because the top half of the sole is pretty flexible and the bottom half is rigid.
      I personally am looking to buy the fastback for just one reason, the overall rigid sole and a little bit of comfort that comes with the hinge system.
      Mind you protection is a priority as well, but personally I've found from experience that if you have decent enough adventure or touring boots they do just fine protecting.
      The only complaint i have is the missing rigid shank sole that makes my feet fatigued after standing for too long on the bike off-road. Hence the fastbacks.
      You could consider that as a major factor as well.

      You could watch this video too for a comparison between Dakar and Fastback. For my bike and riding which is possible in a INT 650, Dakar might be the best option. Fastback will certainly be more protective, but not very practical especially without Goretex ..

  • @benjaminolson2858
    @benjaminolson2858 2 года назад +4

    which do you prefer, the fastback enduro or the sg-12? is there a difference in comfortability? I only ride trails, most of which are single track with a lot of rocks. I like the flex and mobility of the fastback, but don't want to skimp on materials like padding or quality. Is there a big difference with peg feel on the bike?

    • @AtomicMoto
      @AtomicMoto  2 года назад +2

      There is a big difference in "security" and "quality" feel, in favor of the SG-12s. They just feel awesome and invincible. The Fastback does have an advantage for "peg feel" but that is more perceived than an actual lesser amount of range of motion. What we can say is, if you are on rides where you will be banging your feet off rocks and logs on singletrack, you'll probably feel better and more confident with the SG-12s.
      FYI they are available in an ENDURO version now:

    I've been into motocross all my life and these Gaerne Fastbacks are by far the most protective boots I've ever worn, the quality is top notch and the fit is true to size, the "plastic" they refer to is actually a tough nylon that won't crack like plastics do, Gearne is also the only Italian boot still made in Italy, IMO the Italians have always made the best fitting highest quality motocross gear in the industry, my only complaint is the Fastbacks squeek like crazy! it's embarrassing, but worth it.

They've gotten extremely comfortable and I've beaten the crap out of them. They've saved me on more than a few occasions and have the scratches to prove it.
      I've had one strap split partially on them, no big deal though, it never fully broke and a whole pack of 4 replacements was ~$10, they fit anybody in my riding group's Gaernes.

      @jarridangloher Here is my experience. Wearing in most footwear, I am the 42.
      In this boot, I bought the 42.
      If your foot is truly *wide and a 42, I would recommend a 43!
      If your foot is on the edge of regular width and wide foot, a 42 will work.
      My foot is a wide,and measure a smidgen over the threshold. I ended up buying an aftermarket foot sole insert, and I cut it to SUIT me. The insert was both more comfortable than the OEM, and it allowed more room in the foot box.
      Hopefully this answers your doubt. If NOT go 43 you can ALWAYS add a thicker insole and thick sicks to take up the space in the foot box. In short, I love these boots. should I buy them again, I will opt for a 43 - which is a size that I never have purchased in anything previously.
