the compromise you failed to mention was COMFORT. Like everything about gear, its all a trade off - a risk vs reward thing. I would opt for the more comfortable looking but waterproof SIDI, as I'm sure to ride in the rain, sometimes walk around in them and in the .01% chance I wreck, I may or may not pay the price for a less protective boot. All good - appreciate the videos. Keep em comin.
My Forma Adventure boots are comfortable, except that time I broke my fibula-that was very uncomfortable. Off pavement wear something protective. My Forma ADVs stay on pavement now.
I really prefer the Alpinestars Toucan boots because comfort is very important for long days on the motorcycle. There are times when I need to fix the motorcycle, check my equipment, and move around outside of it, so having the right footwear is essential. These boots offer enough protection for off-road riding. While I might switch to dedicated enduro boots when I start competing in off-road events, for now, I am only an adventure rider.
I run toucans if im doing any shingle road trails or any off road, and corizals if im doing road touring. River crossings are no problems in either. Bit disconcerting when the toucans fill up through the vents but never had a wet foot yet. Tried Sidi but they just don't fit my foot shape
hello there....just noticed your post....confort is really important! I´m gonna do kind of 10k miles in Peru and Bolivia in the and of year and wondering about if Toucan would be confortable to ride on road (probably 80% of time) and off road, and if I do need walk kind of a mile in order to see some insteresting sightseeing...i think that to walk a mile maybe Corozal would be better....would u mind to tell me about Toucan in such situation? Best regards from Brazil!
off topic but have you tried the RT 1250, damn what a machine Ive had similar bikes as you k1600gt tuareg etc ... this thing is incredible, try one if you have not, like a GS but handles like its on rails
My Definition of Adventure Riding is up to a 70/30 combination (30% Off Road and Off Road = Non Pavement). My 12 Day trip (Southern Ecuador to Peru) through the Andes is my single best example. All other riding I do (with friends or with my Girlfriend I call "AdvenTouring"). Great Video!!
I recently bought the Tech 7s and I really like them. I also have a pair of AlpineStars Belize Drystar boots....water proof is the important aspect of these, because when the temps went up these boots became almost unbearable. I'm curious if anyone has some long term thoughts on the TECH 7 Drystars? I imagine they'll be just as uncomfortable when temps hit the upper 80's and 90's if worn for longer rides. And as another person commented....'water proof' only until the water goes over the boot......then water proof takes on a new meaning.....water is trapped IN the boot...🤔😔
I have the tech 7 Drystar for about a year now. They can get quite hot. I dont know farenheit, but up to 20 to 25 celcius they are okay as long as you take them off as soon as you step of the bike. You dont want to walk in them when its hot. Also my pair wasnt properly waterproof and have now recieved new ones. Still need to test if they are waterproof, but hopefully its okay. Also, when standing, its difficult to shift and use rear brake for me, because I dont feel the stuff shifting/braking, but im not experienced off road anyway, so might be me.
hello there....just watched your video....sorry about the leg! Really nice review! Toucan allday are great - they are comfortable enough for walking and all day riding...solid protection and waterproof....the drystars would only be riding strictly offroad....not great for long hauls and what you are doing....have fun sounds like a great trip!!!
@lifesjourneyat50 Thats gonna be Amazing. I've made Ushuaia, that is an amazing place to ride down South America. Did 10k miles. Now I'll do Bolivia Peru Ecuador Colombia ...probably more than 10k miles. Thank you, I've really appreciate your return! Have a good one!
For what it’s worth, my two penneth worth. Tech 7s - not sure Drystar is worth it as boots are so big none of my riding pants go over and once the water goes in the top, the membrane keeps it in. Great boots for harder off road - would get the non-drystar if I was buying again. Toucans - best “adventure” touring boot. My pants go over so I have a waterproof system. Sidi Adventure 2 - avoid if you want to stand on your pegs- no midsole stiffness. Sold after one tour.
I do agree on the pants…I should have mentioned that in the boot pants are better with those boots….but agree if water goes in…it’s hard to come out…haha!!! - Thanks!!
My biggest issue is wearing something- I rarely wear much once weather is north of 77F unless longer highway ride. I just invested in BL A3 suit, hoping I’ll put it on more. I can see boots for serious ride, but I’m still not sure… I need to talk to someone with experience
I used to despatch ride and some of us used ex german army para boots. Tough, waterproof all day and cheap. New sidi, goldtop arent cheap but get tough ones with goretex
Not a cheap option, but the Revit Expedition GTX is easily the best combo of waterproof, comfortable and protective. They aren’t a Predator 2, when it comes to protection, but they exceed the likes of the Toucan and Sidi Adventure. They are also comfortable to walk in, helped in part by the Ortholite insoles. For a lower cost option, more on par with the Alpinestars Toucan and Sidi Adventure, there is also the Revit Discovery GTX
You would think with all the money I have tied up I would try a pair of those....but at $950...haha...just haven't pulled the trigger...thanks for sharing!!!
@@lifesjourneyat50 Like all gear, especially high end stuff, you need to be patient and wait for sales. I got mine for $799, which I fully appreciate is still not cheap. The Discovery on the other hand is similarly priced to the Toucan and Sidi and also a solid option. I originally purchased those, but after a weekend of thinking on it, decided that I really wanted the additional protection as an older rider, and swapped for the Expedition
good review, but the alpine tech7 dristar are everything but water proof, in light rain soaking wet feet. You will find reports of them being not waterproof all over the internet. Which is really a pity, cause they been super comfortable. I got them returned and my money back, what I really had preferred them being waterproof, cause they been really good in every other way.
@@lifesjourneyat50 I gave the revit expedition in size 9 and 10 a try, really would have appreciated if they would have fit my feet, but had to send both of them back. 10 not enough hold in the boot and the 9 really hurt. Now ended up with the Leatt 4.5 but just got them the other day. Only had one ride with them so far means there is not much to tell.
Alpinestars makes a waterproofing Compound that l have used extensively on rides with multiple deep watercrossings with no issues. This was always on tech 8 or tech 10 motocross boots. Have friends that sprayed motocross boots with other waterproofing products and had no issues. I have multiple street boots with dristar and have never had any issues in complete downpours. Toucan is a nice boot but still not the level of support of a tech 7

Fair comments....and as you saw the boots that have a lot of wear and tear....they are the more comfortable ones....ha!!!

agree - the Toucan for anything outside riding enduro...thanks for commenting!!!

Love my toucans, can get them really cheap at Bob leisure for $380.
That's an excellent price...thanks for info...

All of my riding pants fit over my Tech 7 Enduros...Klim and Resurgence jeans, Klim Marrakesh and HWK pants. 🤷♂️

Army/tactical boots seem ok until you snap your ankle like a twig in em

What about gaerne dakar boots?
I've never tried a pair...on my list but no experience....sorry - thanks!
If those predators are size 12 and u wanna get rid of them I’m looking for a nice pair of boots ❤.. I’m currently using Thor boots …
Two weeks late...just gave then away....damn...thanks
👀
Motorcross boots are the best bet off pavement. Injuries and time off the bike suck.
Yes...injuries suck to say the least....thanks for commenting!!!!
Worth the trade off for comfort when the bike lands on your leg.
