    Great work on the paint Johnny, sills look much better. As I've said before I think the car looks much better on 17 inch wheels but i understand sticking to stock is the way to go for most folk on older cars. I'd buck the trend.

      @@PB200559 I actually agree from a personal standpoint point. If I was keeping this one, I’d dial the coil over ride height in, space the RS7’s out a few mm and call it perfection, however the real value in this one is its originality and as a sale car, I need to play to what dictates the top values

    Ah, I was a bit late commenting on the last video. The car and paint do look great, but the black line along the bottom of the sill is how it was originally from factory/showroom spec--it wasn't body coloured past the lower line. Not that it matters since the rust needed doing and it's not exactly hard for the new owner to paint it on if they were particularly fussed about it.

    Great job. I’m glad you are keeping it original. I thought you would use your lift to paint the sills? Would have given you more access

    • @JohnnyGetsCash
      @JohnnyGetsCash  2 месяца назад

      Funnily enough in this scenario the lift would’ve made the job more tricky. Having the lift arms in the correct place would mean I’d be unable to lay down longer, consistent gun strokes, so having the car on the floor and fully accessible was the way to go (although it does call for some awkward body positioning!)

    Perfect smart repair paint job. Another Johnny gets cash car getting some love and looking as good as it does, just goes to show the effort is well worth it. I agree loosing the black painted sills was the way to go. Looking forward to seeing the next episode when it’s back on all four wheels to see how much better it sits.

      @@rstezza Sure, it’s absolutely no different to spraying with a gun, just on a smaller scale.
      I use professionally made base paint (made to manufacture’s paint code by a local paint shop), mixed 1:1 with high gloss thinners and then applied in sympathetically weighted coats until the correct coverage / blend is achieved 👍

      @JohnnyGetsCash I wanted to buy one of these exact models (130bhp si), but all the ones I found were rusty dogs or had a dodgy past. The only good one I found turned out to be in "my mates" name on the V5, even though the guy had it for 4 years! I gave up in the end. 🫣

    I think that black paint line at the bottom of the sills is there to take your eye off the fact that the sills are thicker/deeper than normal (because convertible/ structural rigidity) ? As such, I sort of preferred it.
    Anyway, good call on painting the top section of front bumper entirely. 👍👍

    • @JohnnyGetsCash
      @JohnnyGetsCash  2 месяца назад +1

      This is potentially the case however given the few minor rust spots on the lower portion of the sills, they certainly needed addressing and re-painting. For me Zinc yellow throughout was the way to go, however if someone ever wanted to visually lose the bottom of the sills and re-paint it black, this would be very easy to do (and would be going over a totally solid and rust free sill!)

    Great smart repair. I’ve got a yellow Porsche Boxster and my front bumper is also a different shade to the rest of the car. I thought it was just a poor repaint spray but maybe like you say after 9 years it fades differently on plastic but then why on your and mine the rear bumper is pretty much the same shade of yellow, a bit odd?

    • @JohnnyGetsCash
      @JohnnyGetsCash  2 месяца назад +1

      Sometimes it's not the case and the rear bumper will be just as bad as the front. In the case of this car i can only assume that whilst it lived in a garage, the front bumper was more prone to sunlight exposure than the rear (?). Yellow paint is always tricky!

      It varies depending on the repair but for the smart repairs here, which were done with an airbrush, I use the airbrush to apply the clearcoat as well. It’s simply a case of doing a wider blend with the clear vs the size of the colour blend 👍
