Fond memories of my late fathers 1968 1.3 MK1 Escort with Mexico trim. He had it from new and yes it was "borrowed" a few times but always got it back. A drivers car.
Absolutely loved the 'film' because thats the quality of what youve produced. Chopping between talking about the car in the workshop, and then driving sequences was an excellent way of editing. Car is immaculately prepared, I really hope to see them being used, rather than being kept in a climate controlled warehouse as an investment. But.... your face when the back end slid out.... OMG, sorry, but I did laugh at the horror :)
I don't think there's anything I can add that hasn't already been said, but that episode was INCREDIBLE!!! The car itself, the scenery, the camera work and above all, Jonny's manner and style of presenting... absolutely flawless. Love it. Well done to everyone involved.

“Over 3000rpm the rear view mirror is pointless” 😂 Johnny, your content is as amazing as the cars you find and review. Great episode. Have a great Christmas.
Exactly like my 79 Subaru with an EA71S (FJ1600 spec factory race engine) swapped in. The power band is from 3500 to 6500 RPM, and the gearing is set up for 3500-5000 cruising RPM. The flimsy mirror will vibrate out of position every 10 minutes or so on the highway. And looking at it every car looks fuzzy. But the car is so wonderful to drive I'm willing to live with the vibrating mirror.
Loved every moment of this. What an amazing company to bring this total icon back. Everyone I knew had one back in the 70s and 80s and seeing a 'new' one again and the enjoyment on your face driving it was epic. Also hats off to the production and presentation of this film, it just keeps getting better!
Wonderful episode and amazing scenery. It's hard to imagine driving experiences getting any better than that. Beats a gold-wrapped Lambo tootling around Knightsbridge over speed bumps any day of the week

Wow, I stopped noticing Snowdonia and think I now love the MK1 more than the Mk2. Blown away by the MST concept (who needs a supercar when you can have this), LBS production values and the look on your face when the back end ‘got a bit squirrelly’. Chapeau MST, Johhny and LBS team!
These superb classics are part of British motorsport history and must be preserved. I'm not a Ford fanboy, I've owned some though and also Vauxhall's. British motorsport owes a big debt of thanks to guys like this who keep our history alive and kicking 🙂
A mind blowing creation of the great little MK1 Escort. I absolutely love this little beast and I'm not a Ford fan but what an absolute credit to the constructors attention to detail.
Even though i have always loved old fords , especially the MK1,s and 2s escorts , you just can't not immerse yourself enough in Johnny's style of presenting. I would love to get my hands on that MK1. Perfect balance of old and new technology. When I started driving, MK1 Escorts were worth peanuts and so many got scrapped. Crazy to think what they’re worth now.
I just wanted to say this Jonny: I love this channel. The content, the vibe. I have watched a lot of top gear, fifth gear and so on for many years, but this is something else.
Im with Johnny that the Mk1 is the way to go. I’m old enough that I had two of them in the very early 80s when they weren’t that old. A 1300E two door that was near immaculate for £900 and another two door 1300XL which wasn’t that bad for £400. These new ones are of course toys for old rich boys and if I had enough money I’d have one with a full near stock interior no roll cage, sound deadening and some other stuff to make it more civilised so that it could be enjoyed regularly. I hate the modern bonnet latches as well but appreciate that MK1(Escorts) are being made in 2021. Nostalgia!
I might not be 1 of those rich boys but i do enjoy what mst is dowing specialy in this car market. most cars i look at feel boring and these days they try fill the dealer floors with SUV or hybrid junk and ather stuf + they dont realy wane sell people financialy economic freindly cars anymore. And most of those new cars are flavourless or lose value once they go old. + my goverment is pushing for more electricial cars but most people cant afford it and the ones who can afford it start getting annoyed with charging times or battery issues down the line. or they get less and less range out of the car. + once the goverment cheap taxation laws change about electric cars i bet a major group is gone drop em off as unwanted. + they are banning diesels from a serten build year in different citys so thats also very enjoyebale for oldtimer owners. but yeah a body shell of this escort looks like a lot of fun but i dont think i can afford it in any sense this is surely high paid labour with a lot of passion. Maybe one day if i find one (when im older) it might be affordebale but egh these things gone be unicorns for most people. =) Stil very lovely to see. that this kind of work can stil be done to make something different in a crazy time.
@@KnexJunkie it is indeed nice to see re-imagined classic cars either like this or even as EV conversions. Another business in Wales specialise in that. All of these things are very labour intensive and bespoke hence costly. It’ll be interesting to see in 20 or 30 years (if I’m still here!) what 2020 cars particularly EVs are considered ‘classic’ and what aftermarket industries & small businesses have grown up to enable poor people to be able to continue to own run & modify them? Will there be dodgy car dealers selling the Fiat 500E with hacked software and cheap Chinese aftermarket battery packs fitted. Will the technology have improved so much that there will be electric resto mods like a 2020 Porsche Taycan with 2040 motors and battery pack with a 900 mile range that fast charges in 10 minutes and does 0 - 60 in 1.5 secs? I was always a 3.0 Capri bloke back in the day, and owned 2 over the years, I never really got into Escorts, but looking at these Mk1's 40-50 years later, what a car that is, it's tremendous, and who doesn't love a Mk1 'Scort' with Rallye arches, that sounds like it could suck in small mammals, with the induction noise.... bet it's not cheap though, nope... Awesome for a bit of back lane hoonery, but the road noise would start to wear on a long journey, I suspect, I'd have to spec some sound deadening.

Spent a lot of time upgrading the brakes taken from a 3 ltr capri, Internal exhaust and brake lines on taps mounted on the dash so i could shut off the front or rear brakes for donuts, Lowering blocks on the rear leaves, spax, SIX shocks on the rear and the boot contained an extra large fuel tank to balance the weight of the engine, Skid plate underbody to protect the prop. Hand painted matt black. Suspension was from a marc 1 escort van, I remember sitting behind porches and jags on the fast lane of the M1 flashing them impatiently. Wish i still had that little monster.
Great production Jonny! Well done to your team, please keep them coming, it's what keeps us normal guys dreaming 🙏🏼 Never had the pleasure of a Mk1 or Mk2 but these MST beauties are awesome. Hard want!
I love how we see your excitement in the intro-talk. I am not into Escorts, but what MST is doing is really exiting. It sounds like you get a fantastic driving experience that is period appropriate. Which, to me is much more exciting than a modern fast car. My personal sweet spot is more towards the MR2 / Z1 era of cars. But you know, fuck it, I could live with one of these ;)
Boy, does this take me back, I’m from Wales, living in Texas. Father had a Mexico, mother had a 1300 sport, climbing in the back for school runs because, it’s Wales, and pissing down with rain! Beautiful cars and beautifully filmed, I’m now homesick.
This is what I've loved in Caterhams for decades - the old-school experience without the old-school hassles, and maybe just enough of the modern power and handling. Congratulations to MST for bringing that to other types of car - it looks fantastic.
Oh Johnny, I am 63, escorts were my bread and butter starting off with 1100ohv which would still tail slide on roundabouts and its that behaviour that was that addictive rwd era. Alas i was young, insurance was mountainous. always put sports steering wheel on, change the carbs and air filter. Then had 1300…. Wow more power😂😂😂😂. Eventually peaked at 1600 mexico, ridiculously pwerless bhp wise to todays cars but humungous fun. They would take hours of abuse, beautiful gearboxes and never surpassed in looks imo. What happened to Ford? Thanks for those heady days of sliding sideways everywhere. Must be heaven to drive these. I cant believe the Rs2000s the police had in Liverpool city centre were a mere 109bhp but by christ they felt the fastest thing on the road. Thanks for this insight had me welling up. Smashed all mine up usually going sideways without lsd. Later when i became interested in ladies I had a 3.0 capri ghia auto, sunroof, what a beautiful car. What an engine

late brake quickly positioning itself as one of the best automotive channels on the tube. cheers jonny
The arches make the Mk1 look absolutely gorgeous.
The MST MK1 is now my dream car - the looks of the classic Escort but with no rot or rust and totally spec’d how you want it.
You can keep ya super cars, I want one of these!
Best car content ever. No BS, just cars we love. A presenter unparalleled
Got a lot of respect for MST. Have first hand experience of their customer service, products and passion. ❤️
Amazing car and brilliant episode. Excellently shot, edited and presented. How TopGear should be. Thanks

Everyone of these videos is better than the last. The quality is amazing. Thanks Jonny!
Back when cars had character!! Those were the days. The world was a much better place back then too.
Best episode yet Jonny. The cinematography is just epic, and Wales is gorgeous. Nicely done Sir, nicely done.

I don't think there's anything I can add that hasn't already been said, but that episode was INCREDIBLE!!! The car itself, the scenery, the camera work and above all, Jonny's manner and style of presenting... absolutely flawless. Love it. Well done to everyone involved.
If you don’t like this then pray there’s someone around to check you’ve still got a pulse. What a talented team.
The face of fear as Johnny twirled the doggy bone grill around the pristine paint work 🤗.
Fantastic show Johnny.
Yep, glad i wasn't the only one stressing about that 😂
Not just me then. I was cringing just watching that guy’s eyes. They were following every move.
Me too, i was just thinking "put the grill DOWN Johnny" lol.
And me 🤣🤣🤣
I thought for a moment he was gone to lay it down on the bonnet of e car.... I’m not sure what he was doing twirling it around, we all know it’s the dog bone grill..... it’s probably £500 on eBay.
When my lotto win finally arrives I’ll be ordering one of each, you can be sure of that!

Johnny, your content is as amazing as the cars you find and review.
Don't think we are going to see many at 85k lol
This or an RS6 Audi tho........nice to have both.
This guy does BEAUTIFUL WORK !!! His attention to detail is fantastic and I am sure that the cars he creates are worth every penny !!!
So glad these cars exist, wish the company every success for the future.
Wonderful episode and amazing scenery. It's hard to imagine driving experiences getting any better than that. Beats a gold-wrapped Lambo tootling around Knightsbridge over speed bumps any day of the week
I'll take the Lambo in Knightsbridge myself thanks.
Amazing, it's going on my lottery list.
That said, the look on Johnny's face @ 24.00 was the highlight of the video.
You bastard, pure gold.🤣

The only time swearing it is completely understandable and forgiven. lol.
Typical, test driving a rear wheel car and it bloody rains 🌧️😟
Wow, fantastic video and took me back to my first car, although was a Mk2 Escort. Great content Johnny and cameraman/men.
Mine was a mk 1,so much fun
Check his video on the Mark 2 version it will blow your socks off especially if that is your fave mate
Two things that tell you that the work done by MST is supreme, 1. Jonny on his knees licking the tyres. 2. Jonny stopped talking when he was driving. Well done MST for the vision.
That Car is a thing of Beauty
How this channel doesn't already having at least a million subscribers is nuts! Your production quality is on another level. Not to mention the content. 👏 👏 Keep it up Jonny
It's quite niché
Too busy watching clowns like Russell Brand
Cracking car, cracking road (Llanberis Pass, North Wales). Perfect. Saw it at the NEC last month. Thanks Jonny!
British motorsport owes a big debt of thanks to guys like this who keep our history alive and kicking 🙂
what a collection of mk1's and mk2's...My family vechicle Mk2 for 25 yrs.So many memories
Once again the Late Brake Show knocks it out the park. Epic content and superb filming in beautiful North Wales.
Oh ffs the sound of that twincam. The look on your face when the back end lit up!! Bilstein is entry level... the stuff of dreams
It's a skill very very few presenters have and knows what his audience wants to hear and be made aware of when introducing another vehicle. Let's hope businesses like MST continue to be successful for many years to come and Johnny continues to impress us all.
I don’t even bother with Top Gear any more - why do I want to watch 3 blokes thrash and wreck cars when I can watch The Late Brake show which consistently delivers awesome and diverse content that respects all forms of automotive pleasure! Always waiting for the next alert Jonny! Thank you and merry Christmas!
The car looked good in Manchester but you've really shown what it's about in this episode. A faultless video with great chat and camera work.
The Road Test....gotta love the induction noise and the bit that looked like a Terry Harryman 'dear God' moment just needed some drone footage. 😂😂
New pants please.
Keep doing what you're doing Jonny and hope you and the Team have a great Christmas.
I would love to get my hands on that MK1. Perfect balance of old and new technology. When I started driving, MK1 Escorts were worth peanuts and so many got scrapped. Crazy to think what they’re worth now.
Thank you Johnny for bringing more Escort dreams for us to enjoy & this vid like the others was amazing for every minute. This made my day.
I just wanted to say this Jonny: I love this channel. The content, the vibe. I have watched a lot of top gear, fifth gear and so on for many years, but this is something else.
The production quality Jonny!!!!
The first 2mins of this film are INCREDIBLE
Johnny keep doing what your doing.....this is the kind of content everyone needs!!!!
Nostalgia!
I think the Mk1 looks more beautiful but the Mk2 is still a lovely looking car.
Stil very lovely to see. that this kind of work can stil be done to make something different in a crazy time.
Only time will tell!
@@markbennett6658 i realy wonder if a budget freindlyer version could be possible of this. I mean i own a 1.6 sport suzuki swift. Those have 125 pk on paper but these 2007 till 2010 ones are devalued stil these engines are chain driven (inside engine block) FWD. I wonder if you rotate the engine and get it to become RWD + juicy up the enige to a 1.9 drill out competion its a easy 200PK / als from what i could find this engie can hit 250 pk++ depending on mods. (It might not be totaly mst spec but yeah just thinking). Also it would be a fun way to reuse what we have. I do enjoy the sounds it makes. (The car i do own) But yeah i dont realy see much happening for me. Im passioned about cars but so far ive been struggeling to find a job and if i do work for somebody they wane keep screwing me over =( + if i do get hired work a few years with my handicap pay / then ask to be paid a normal sallary i just get attacked / bullied out of a company... im currently in a nasty situation with a employer who made me sick (due of stress im totaly bald) so yeah im never gone be 1 of the rich boys. Since i recieved my first handicap pay ive felt cursed by societly. Maybe 1 day things get better but its been more then 10+ years fighting to get somewhere... or to even own a car... im realy worried about the whole EV idea's also i dont realy see them be viable for social rent housing comnunitys in any logical sense. 🤔
@@KnexJunkie oh dear it doesn’t sound like you’re being treated well by life at all. What country are you in? I’d say don’t worry too much about EVs taking over petrol and diesel ones will probably be hanging about getting old until at least 2050. Those Suzuki Swifts are tough little things. Just enjoy it for what it is and maybe do some simple mods on it that don’t cost a fortune. Look for future classics because stuff like these old Escorts are never going to be that affordable now. There’s not enough of them left!
MK I always has a special place in my heart. Gorgeous car and epic scenery. This would be a perfect daily driver to negotiate the bad country gravel roads to my property after having fun through the canyon run. I just discover this channel. Thanks for the great episode.
I am late to the game here. Was a faithful Fifth Gear viewer. Then suddenly the show disappeared. Really missed you, Vickie, Tiff, and Jason. But now, here’s Johnny!!! I’ll be here for a while! I’ve always loved your analytical tech nerd fanaticism in regard to specs and features of cars. Here you are, again, dishing out the excellence! 🙏🏻

29:40 Yes, I did really enjoyed this episode. Johny, your content, knowledge & enthusiasm is pure class & well above other content providers. As for the car itself, absolutely beautiful, thumbs up to MST for bringing these to life, even though they are well & truly out of my budget.
If they started making Capri's if have to consider a career change robbing banks
I had a mk 3 capri but only the pinto 1600.However put a weber and suitable manifold on it and twiddled the cam timing a bit and it was so much fun.Happy days when cars could be alot of fun.

I had a marc 1 back in the day when i was a boy racer, Dropped a rover SDI 3.5 V8 in it with an adapter plate to a bullet box and shortened prop.

Having spent 51 years "ADORING" the Ford Cortina Mk.3, and the past 45 years owning one, I understand & love Carwyn's passion for Escorts, and making them brand new, I wanted a perfect 100% rust free Cortina and so set about the restoration of my 1974 car, to the highest standard possible, it has taken years of work, with international parts searches, for super rare panels, but the as brand new shell now looks stunning, MST build the "perfect" Mk 1 & 2 Escort shells, and I have done that with My Cortina, so I really admire their work. and really enjoyed this video, .
