DIY Alloy Wheel Refurb For My Neglected Jaguar X-Type
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 сен 2024
- This is the fourth part of my Jaguar X-type resurrection series where i am trying hard to breathe fresh life into a 2008 X-type that i bought sight unseen from auction.
In this episode i am tackling the scratched and deeply dirt engrained alloy wheels.
Usually i would send these out for a professional refurb but as i have given over the odds for a car that required more work than anticipated, this time i don't have the budget so i will tackle the refurb myself, in house!

Bro, I love your channel. I was a huge fan of wheeler dealers. Your channel fills that void.
Keep giving old cars a new lease on life! They deserve more time on the road.
Thank you very much!
Johnny is a fair bit more believable than most of Wheeler Dealers content 😂
Great channel, thanks for the effort you put into the videos.
Probably the best diy wheel refurb in the world
You've made a suberb job of those wheels, just goes to show what £30 and hard graft can acheive. Well done.
Thanks. They’ll do the job here I think!
That colour looks perfect against the red,
Great job mate,
I don't think you need to justify either the way you did the wheel refurb or the end result! They are both excellent 😊
Wheels look brilliant!
Wheel shade looks classy and understated to me. Loads of work there boss, I hope the old girl manages to pay you back some!
Very impressed with the budget wheel refurb. Been waiting for you to tackle a job like this. Like the colour & think they turned out great considering the small amount it cost. I know it's a lot of elbow grease involved, but the end result has proved its worth it.This is the reason i like this channel, you explain things in great detail & i certainly take confidence from what you do, to help me make my cars look better. Cheers Johnny & all the best 👍🏻
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed this one and it may have been helpful! 👍
Wheels look spot on to me, great job
Am liking that satin silver finish. Well done!
Great job. Well done. The Jag deserves the finishing touch
Wheels look great Johnny! Well done
The wheels are spot on. I did the same on my son’s Clio alloys, they were rough and came out almost like new, just need a bit of elbow grease!
Looks top! Very inspirational that it’s possible to achieve such a finish even with a basic DIY method.
Thank you. With a bit of planning and prep, even a DIY job can look very good I think!
They've come up REALLY well! But this takes me back to painting my 04 astra alloys bright pink 🤣🤣🤣
Looks a really cared for example now!amazing difference good wheels make to the end result!
This is the Blue Peter of car channels.
Keep them as is. Go well with each other.
Carlsberg don’t make tyre protectors but if they did they’d be the…. Oh wait ! They do!
good colour on the wheels, they seem to match the front grill!
Jaguar is looking good! Did notice the little scratch and the wing/door alignment as well.
Many many years ago when I used to buy and sell cars I’d use a piece of garden hose and staples one end for covering the valves (reuseable) and then the same as you did with card board for the tyres then paint the wheels.
Overall though, very smart and professional job.
I did this to the wheels on my XF last summer. I looked at a lot of grey/ silvers and settled for a Peugeot silver, which was quite bright. Its possible to get the Jag silver on line at a price. I used two primer coats before spraying the silver and three x 2 part gloss lacquer coats to finish.
Johnny, your wheels look amazing! Has given me the boost to do mine in the summer! I did get mine powder coated but the finish isn't great, and the brake dust has welded to it. Am glad you took our advice. Can I suggest for a next project, a Skoda Octavia or a VW Passat 5.5?
Looks great, great choice on the colour
You made the wheels look very good 👍, would be proud and just call them refurbished wheels in the adv. If you sand them with the correct grids, use a spray gun and use the correct paint/lacquer it's definitely 80% of what a proffesional would achieve. Maybe a keeper for the more value car flips.
Fantastic work!
Nice job and perfect color choice too.
Just cleaning the wheels (including the barrels) makes such a difference I find. Personally I would have taken a few minutes more to remove the old adhesive residue from former wheel weights at the back of the barrels.
Nice job , I tried this before but just ended up rushing it so didn’t look great , more patience next time 👏👏👌
I use silicone tube nozzles to go over the tyre valve
Doing the same to my x type 2.2 sport saloon soon, very encouraging result. Thanks for posting, they look great. 👍
Sensible compromise Johnny. Wheels look great and colour for me looks spot on. Car coming together really nicely now.
Thank you
Nailed it with the wheels 👍
Great job looks realy good tgat colour 👍👍
Brilliant job! My cars the same colour of red, iv been thinking of going a dark grey on my wheels.
Thanks, I’m really happy with this slightly darker than standard shade. It’s grown on me more and more!
Great job keep the good work up loving your videos 👍
Alloys look great, wheels are only clean occasionally so that refurb is 100% better than left as before.
Tyres look perfect mate the colour suits against the red🙌🏻
Mate they look great and the colour is great, very nice looking car, could be interested
Stop doubting and degrading your skillz Johnny, the car looks even BETTER than new god damn it. Keep up the great work, cheers from Makedonija! :)
I just like to keep expectations realistic! I’m very happy with the outcome here though!
Man if I was your neighbor, you would hate me for staying at your garage all the time just bothering you with something silly :) @@JohnnyGetsCash
I paid £450 for my 20in JagXF wheel refurb and they look pretty dam good for £30 and I think suit the chilli red paintwork . Good job 👍
Thanks, the colour of these wheels has really grown on me!
I don't know why ppl give rattle cans such a hard time, for a DIY referb on a budget I think the paint and you did a very good job. 👍👍👍👍👍
I think if applied properly, aerosol paint can be an excellent tool. I’ve done loads with it over the years including body panel paintwork blends and have always been very happy with the results!
Totally agree I too have been using them for years on many projects.
Looking great
I prefer the darker colour
Look good buddy.
Looks great Johnny, definitely added value there
When can I bring my car round so you can do mine?!
Given my current workload you may have to wait a few years! 😂
@@JohnnyGetsCash tut tut....turning down trade 😂😂😂😂😂
What paint did you use? I'm looking for a gun metal grey colour for my wheels. The one I used looks like a blue grey. The Jag is lookin really good BTW.
This was a generic ‘wheel silver’ from Halfords. They offer a darker shade, but in this case I went for the lighter option that they offer (which was still slightly darker than I expected but happily looks quite good!)
Didn't you need to prime the wheels first?
Fair question, I did give the wheels some aerosol primer, but I forgot to mention this in my verbal recap of what i used as I had the primer in stock already. I used less than half a can for all of the wheels so costs were still less than £30 as mentioned 👍
Good god, man. Is there anything you can't do???
No way i would send them to professional refurbishers if they look like that for 30$ 😅... Total waste of money since the imperfections that might be there will never be seen in the normal use of the car...
