Fun fact: My 8bitdo Zero (gen one) survived a trip through the washing machine to my surprise. They fit in the useless tiny pocket on the right side of most jeans, just don't forget it is in there on laundry day!
I have the first version of this controller and surprisingly, it works well for android but due to its size, I can't game with this controller for more than 30 minutes! It's great for a quick on the go gaming and for me, I gotta have a physical button controller! Good to know that this version is only $19.99 as for some reasons, they jack up the price of the first version to $34.99!
Get the 8bitdo N30 pro It's bigger than these things, but it's still a small controller, the size and flatness of a smart phone so it fits in your pocket, but it's way more usable and doesn't give you hand cramp like this one does. I love them so much I got another one so I have 2 now. It's got these really satisfying clicky buttons. I've even managed to play some FPS games with it cos it has analogue sticks, and while it isn't perfect for that, it's better than using the joycons
I have had/loved my first gen 8bitdo Zero for years. I like remapping the controls in emulators to hold it vertically with one hand. It's especially good for slower stuff like RPGs.
BIG THANKS TO YOU!!! I lost my instructions manual so I went to RUclips for help and after about 5 videos I came across yours and I’m up and running! Thank you!!!
I was a fan of the original SN30, but being one of the first 8bitdo products it had a couple of flaws and was not of the quality of current products and is discontinued. I'd like to see an 8bitdo gamepad with the same design and quality as the Zero 2, but the size of a SNES gamepad and it would be great.
I have the turquoise one that I made a key ring for so I can attach it to my keys. If you are not using the shoulder buttons, it's perfect. It's on a quick release so I can unhook it from my keys quickly. I use it when I want to waste some time at work or school. I got retroarch setup on my phone and I just fire up SNES and next thing you know I'm happily gaming away.
I wonder how repairable/cleanable these things are. I can see them getting gunked up easily due to the small size. Also battery/super capacitor whatever it uses for power replacement could be easy or nearly impossible depending on the way it is built. Can you PLEASE do a tear down so we can get some of those questions potentially answered?
Pouches used to be gangster. You'll read this and laugh... But these and Air Max 90's were uniform for drug dealers. The clip release was ideal for getting rid of shit you didn't want on your person in certain situations.
I got one last month, and it works just fine, but now the D-Pad doesn't work IN GAME but the D-pad works in the menu system. This things is the best to play Pokemon one handed. So if someone lost an arm or a hand this is great for one-handed folks.
Its the Tic-Tac controller👍🏼 Little too small for me but looks good. I have the nes30 pro and the sn30 pro +. Both have served me very well. 8bitdo makes a great product.
Honestly this thing does the job. I only use snes9x on both my laptop and phone so this is great. Gets me doing something when I have free time at college.
Lon. Tv review showed you can when connected to switch, press select and start at the same time will be equivalent to pressing zl + zr at the same time
I have a Zero 1, and I always bring it with me in my pocket with a little case I printed and I love it! Besides the colors and the connection with the Switch, are there other differences between the 1 and the 2?
I used to have the first generation. I still wonder why I bought it, since I am a plus sized male, using the zero was actually hurting my hand more than anything.
I'm >6 feet tall and my hand are large, so I find xbox and ps4 controllers a bit small, i would like them to have larger version, or at least some extension grips.. But.. i really want to buy these 3 8bitdos! All 3 colors! They're so cute))))
Those are cute... should be black and dark grey versions though... or some colors that are more appealing to certain people. I do like pink and turquoise, but not on my hardware.
I have a zero first gen and love it! It is always in my pocket or bag with my phone. When I saw it I laughed because it is so small but is the best for on the go gaming.
I much prefer the 8bitdo M30 Pro for a small controller. Because its a fair bit larger than this tiny Zero thing, but it's still tiny and flat relative to all normal controllers, it's smaller than a smartphone and it's very flat so it fits in your pocket, even a shirt pocket (although it'll be sticking out). And it has usable analogue sticks meaning you could play Smash Ultimate for example. But at home I've been using the new 8bitdo SN30 pro plus which is a SNES controller with analogue sticks and hand grips, it's basically a PS4 controller, and it works great. I also have the older one by them that is just the SNES gamepad with analogue sticks, but no hand grips. And the 6 button mega drive/saturn style gamepad cos of that fantastic Sega d-pad, and the 6 buttons make it great for street fighter I have no need for all these controllers but I irrationally love this company and can't stop buying them. Got a little collection now. Although I'm gonna buy the Power A switch the controller that has extra buttons on the back, paddles you can assign to any button. I've already got the gamecube controller for switch too, plus the NES pads from Nintendo purely cos they look cool
I’ve been following this company for as long as they’ve been out and I own all of the original controllers the sn30 fc30 and also then sn30 pro and fc30 pros this and the handle sn 30 pros are the only ones I’m missing and I’m actually not worried about owning the handle style ones but these zero and zero 2 are the only ones I’m genuinely interested in adding to my collection. They are so awesome I hate taking my sn/fc 30 and 30 on the go since they go in my backpack and I’ve already had some issues with the joy stick so these would really be perfect to toss in my pack pack and not have to worry about messing up the joy sticks.
Nice review. But one thing that bothers me since i started watching your videos is the sound. Compared to all the reviewers out there i have to really turn up the volume...
Is it possible to duel weld these controllers at once? Holding them vertically would still make the shoulder buttons accessible from what I can see . Probably not possible except in keyboard mode on a pc with a keymapper, but it seems like they'd fit even better in a normal hand vertically. Plus I bet all the buttons are semi accessible in one hand as well.
I own 2 of these 8bitdo zero 2 controllers but they have terrible connection problems with my windows 10 tablet pc (surface go) no matter which mode I power them on in. they're totally failing to connect to my pc now, which really sucks. Yet the larger, older SNES style 8bitdo controller never has any connection problems and is actually reliable on my tablet pc here. They were such cool controllers! what a shame.
Hello ETA Prime, could you please so a video on testing Android emulation with 4 bluetooth controllers? I tried it a couple of times and I think that input latency might be an issue when adding more than one bluetooth devices while gaming. I think it would be a nice idea for a future video. Thanks.
Hope you check out the new Micro. Interested in grabbing 4 of these to keep in my bag for spontaneous party game emulation on my android phone with USB c to HDMI out.
I picked up one of the earlier-model Zero controllers a few years ago. I had to satisfy my curiosity. They're definitely too small for certain things. I didn't find them good for fighting-game move inputs and stuff like that. There wasn't enough to hold onto, in my opinion. You mention these are bluetooth. Are you sure they don't have ability to connect via USB? I know the previous version was bluetooth only. However, I have seen specs indicating that these can connect via USB, which very well may be a mistake. But these are upgraded controllers with new features, so it is possible they added that ability. It would be good to have that clarified.
The 8bitdo website says the dimensions are 73 x 36.5 x 14.7mm. Cut out a piece of paper to get an idea. It's about the length of my car key, and thicker than my car's keyless entry remote. Tiny for a controller, but it would definitely be the biggest thing on my keychain.
That's the main reason, but also they swapped the ABXY buttons around to be like a SNES controller rather than an Xbox controller, and the firmware is now upgradable (which could mean the ability to add support for future systems, for example).
Would love to see some other colors. Maybe a little retro inspired Nintendo black and gray. But this might actually be perfect for Chromebook X2, the Xbox controller is a little too bulky to cram into my workpack with everything else, always afraid I'm going to rip an analog stick off.
Hey prime, this doesnt quite pertain to the zeeo but i use a sf30 pro on my raspberry pi 3, if i change the poll latency to early instead of late, will it reduce the input lag? The lag it has right now isnt horrible but its not great when precision is involved, big fan by the way
I want someone to make something tiny like this with all the same buttons and analog sticks as the x-box controller. I have a Steelseries FREE. It's close, but it only has L1 and R1. No L2 or R2. Also, the sticks are not clickable. Steelseries also made a very similar one for iOS. That one seemed to have most (if not all) of the buttons I want. But it's strictly for iOS (sigh). I know it's not ideal to play on such a tiny gamepad. But it really worked surprisingly well with my Steelseries FREE. Let someone create something like the Steelseries FREE with x-input and all the xbox buttons/inputs, I'll be all over it.
