    Whether it's really the fastest one or not, I would still take i30N because it looks more athletic, well put together and that exhaust noise is simply unbeatable. Well done Hyundai!

      kmamercy why would I want to buy one, when I can get one already installed from factory. I'm not a fan of an aftermarket tuning. As they are stock as in this video i30N has got more to offer for its price than any other contender can.

    • @Iron883Man
      @Iron883Man 6 лет назад +9

      The fact you call it a crackle map and a gimmick only shows you don't know a thing about it. It's a form of anti lag and it's the only hot hatch on the market that has it from the factory. Any other brand will immideatly void your warranty if you install aftermarket anti lag.

      What I wish they used was the Clio 182 in the car park. (every time the lap driver was on camera) It personifies fun driving and is now cheap enough that you can have that and a nice daily to come along with it. Because how many people are actually racing there new 130N or other equivalent?

    So many salty comments about Hyundai winning this mega-test. Thing is, not a single car here is a dud so it really comes down to personal preference. Meanwhile, with the amount of money Hyundai spent on creating their N division, bringing over Albert Biermann and others, you'd hope their first effort would be good.

      Dr. Josef Blough Ph.D. Who would show up to those events in a Ford, Honda, Renault or VW Golf? That's not the audience they're trying to reach with these cars. I applaud them for recognising how they're regarded currently and bringing 2 very good and surprising cars to the market in this I30N and the Kia Stinger. For the audience you're talking about they have the Genesis brand (in the US) and that has a tougher job against the likes of BMW and Mercedes.

    • @Iron883Man
      @Iron883Man 6 лет назад +9

      Dr. Josef Hyundai and Kia make a name because they are offering better value for money than any EU brand. Can't speak for the Stinger, but the N is just as good as any random hot hatch from Spain, France or Germany...if not better. They have put a huge amount of time and money in developping it and the result is a great product at the same price of a Golf GTI.
      And who would pull up at a World Premier in Holywood in a Hyundai or KIA? I've seen more Priuses pull up there than any other brand lately. At the end of this year Hyundai will launch their fuel cell car (world first production car btw. If that isn't innovating I don't know what is in your eyes) - I recon you will see those Hollywood eco warriors dance around that car as well. You really are nothing more than a conservative blind man spreading 1999 talk in 2018.

      Like it or not, it’s about your personal preference in the end. If you are led by the marketing hype on any new car you are in the majority. The marketing is engineered to draw you in. If you take the emotion out of it you would buy on value, practicality and reliability alone. Another way of looking at it for me is, faster and ugly or slower with dream like looks? Your call, your money...

    • @matthewp9015

      Well cars like the A45 created one.. when you bring out a hatch with AWD and 100+ more BHP than your usual FWD hatch breed, you can’t compare them directly, so you need to put them in a new category. Motoring journos refer to them as such all the time.

    I'm surprised that the Peugeot 308 didn't beat the Hyundai i30N. The french car has the same power, but a lower weight and a better chassis (tuned by Peugeot Sport). Being an older car than the korean, the 308 has beaten the i30N in several tracks as you can check on other comparative videos over youtube. Also doesn't make much sense that the Honda Civic Type R, which can beat all of the models here on any track at any time and has set the fastest times for any FWD in many popular circuits around the world, loses this battle. Then again, I miss the Seat Leon Cupra, which is much faster than its brothers the Golf Type R and the horrendous Skoda but you probably don't have Seat over there in Australia so all I can do is feel sorry about it. Long story short... this looks "a bit" sponsored by Hyundai.

    • @Iron883Man
      @Iron883Man 6 лет назад +2

      You need to look a bit further. The i30 N TCR currently has the lap record on the ring for TCR cars. Since that car uses the same engine and chassis as the regular i30 N. The i30N will run circles around that Clio and Golf on the Ring. It's only slower than the Type R because it has a deficit in hp.
      Hyundai also entered 2 standard i30 N's in the 24h race:
      The #92 car was shared by Vincent Radermecker from Belgium, Stuart Leonard from the UK, automotive journalist Christian Gebhardt from Germany, and Hyundai R&D engineer Jaekyun Kim. In relatively incident-free race, it completed 135 laps, finished 4th in Class, and 50th overall.
      As for the #95 entry, Pieter Schothorst from the Netherlands, automotive journalist Jens Dralle, and Hyundai R&D engineers Youngsun Jee and Jonghyuk Kwon did the driving duties. They crossed the line a further 25 laps behind, 9th in Class, and 95th out of 109 finishers.
      No other adjustments were made than what was strictly necessary to meat FIA regulations: role cage, fire extinguisher, single seat.

      Rudy Oeyen WTCC cars use that same unmodified chassis and same engine. How is laprecord for WTCC cars not comparing against other WTCC cars? When you level the playing field in terms of power that N chassis is faster around a the ring than the others. So why would it be slower around the ring against cars with a deficit in power like the ones he mentions? Those cars are very exciting on a sheet of paper or on PlayStation, but in the real world they are nothing more than stock bonds being traded. Can it get more boring than that?

    I can only comment upon the Honda and the Hyundai,having owned both over the last 9 months. I owned the Type R from last December until May this year and was hugely impressed with its grunt and capability, however, it just doesn't really involve the driver as much as the vastly cheaper Hyundai or provide a similar grin factor. I am not a Hyundai shill, simply giving my opinion of the two. The Type R is a fantastic car that I was delighted to own, to the i30N disparagers I simply say try one before you comment!

    • @johnwilhelm
      @johnwilhelm 6 лет назад +8

      schumifan78 that just goes to show your lack of knowledge on the topic. VW DSG are extremely robust just ask anyone who has one tuned. Mine is a APR Stage 2 that has been tuned for coming up on 2 years. As far as your opinions are concerned you can have them just make sure it is coming from fact and not your biased opinions. If Paddle shirting technology is so bad then why does F1 use them. Performance that’s why. Again your options are your opinions. I’ve driven a few ST and think they are cheap hence why you don’t see many of them in the road. As far as VW GTI’s go they must be doing something right because everyone continues to try and copy them and fails. I actually like the Type R but it’s not worth the money when for $700 you can tune a GTI that you can get for $23,000 and make it faster than the $35,000 Type R. As far as the Hyundai i30N is concerned again I like it but it needs to stand the test of time. To put it in perspective the i30N Performance is Hyundai’s top N car which puts out 278hp/260tq and it runs a claimed 0-60 in 6.0 seconds per Hyundai. The stock DSG GTI with 210hp runs the identical 0-60 time. So take the GTI PP DSG with its more hp, Golf R brakes, bigger rear sway bar and LSD. You can see the point I’m making. Best bang for the buck in its class hands down. Brand new I got my 2017 Sport GTI PP DSG with 24 miles on it for $22,470. Now I’m running with APR Stage 2 340hp/390tq all at the wheel for just over a $1,000 put into it and I still haven’t come close to the price of a Type R. VW is doing something right and that’s what I will stick with.

    • @johnwilhelm
      @johnwilhelm 6 лет назад +1

      soundseeker63 your key word being most. If they are going to allow one other car to use it then they should have included all cars that had it as an option.

    • @soundseeker63
      @soundseeker63 6 лет назад +2

      Why should they? To please DSG fanboys? Some of the cars only offer manual and some only offer auto, while some offer both. It wasn't possible for them to all be the same no matter what options were chosen. And yes, we know DSGs are quicker, yet many drivers still find manual more involving and offering better control for track driving so what makes you think the outcome would have been much different with a DSG?
      In case you didn't notice the GTi and the more expensive more powerful AWD Golf R got beaten by a 1.6 liter FWD Peugeot so clearly they not as marvelous performance cars as you (and a lot of people) like to think. And sure they are tunable but so are all modern turbocharged cars and if you have to spend $$$$ on a Golf just to make it a match for rivals that are stock that just proves how lousy they are stock rather than how great they are when tuned.

    As proven on almost every other comparison anywhere in the universe, in track conditions, and road performance the Civic Type-R absolutely TRUMPS anything in its path.
    The i30N is a very good car for the money you pay, but only comes close to cars like the Civic R, Megane RS etc on REALLY, REALLY tight circuits where you can't actually use the full potential of bigger cars.

    Hey guys - You're a professional brand so not sure why certain things are in issue - If you want to increase your channel success, a video like this should be about 25 minutes long, you're looking at a LOT of cars and each one gets such a small amount of air time, I'm sure you got enough footage on teh day to make a longer video, and youtube will rank you based on viewing time. You should constantly have over exposed footage on light coloured cars, and underexposed footage you had to stretch so it's full of noise - Makes it look unprofessional, yes WHEELS is a succssful Australian magazine - But it makes the whole thing look amateurish.

      Nothwithstanding it doesn't mather jack shit how big a company is. A Golf GTI or even a Golf R is far inferior as a driver's car to a Focus RS, Type R or an i30N. VW became boring as soon as they started using the MQB platform for every possible vehicle they could come up with. It's a platform that is 100% focused on ease of assembly and pleasing the masses (who demand comfort rather than entertaining driving dynamics). Just look at any hot hatch. Almost all of them have completely reworked or newly developped chassis. Non of the VAG ones do and are ultimatly still focused on daily drivability rather than track focused driving dynamics. That's fine if you are looking for a daily drivable 'hot hatch', but not of you're looking for a car that can hold up on a track.
      For informational sake:VAG consists of 12 brands - VW, Audi, Skoda, Seat, Porsche, Laborghini, Bentley, Bugatti, Ducati, VW Commercial Vehicles, Scania trucks and Man trucks.
      General motors unites 8 brands.
      Hyundai unites 3 brands (Hyundai/KIA/Genesis).

      Mgoblagulkablong Not every track is the same. The i30N is actually faster than the Honda on this kind of track (Narrow, no high speed sections, tight turns) because it has a much shorter wheelbase. I agree the Honda is the better track car for an average GT type of track. But it’s not the better car overall. I would have bought one over the i30N if a) it didn’t look like a complete joke and b) if it offered just a bit more for what it costs over an i30N. For me, the difference between the 2 is just too small to justify spending 10k AUD more...even on a track. The Civic is more efficient and more powerful, but the i30N is more fun and the N custom mode is just priceless. You’ll never drive that Honda in Sport+ mode on public roads. The N solves that problem by letting you choose your own setup, and that is huge factor in how fun it is to drive ALL the time and not just on a race track.

    • @Mgoblagulkablong
      @Mgoblagulkablong 6 лет назад +5

      Compare it to the 308 GTi then. Especially on tight tracks like in this video the Peugeot has proven to be much quicker, it is a lot lighter and the tighter the track, the bigger the role of the weight advantage of the Peugeot becomes. If the Hyundai is significantly slower than the Peugeot in dozens of tests and then suddenly it is faster in this test on a track layout that clearly favors the Peugeot even more, this test is obviously fishy.

    • @Iron883Man
      @Iron883Man 6 лет назад +18

      The 308 has a 1.6l. 200kg is not enough to make up for the loss of displacement on this track. It's clearly a track that favours shorter wheelbase (why it beat the Civic) and torque (why it beat the 308) + the i30N has stiffer suspension and a chassis that has no problem coping with that added weight. Not a single car in this range will be faster than every other on every track. They each have their strengths and weaknesses and apperantly they chose a track that favours the i30 N. You don't know hot hatches if you think there is one superior for every situation...there isn't.

      TheDudeInTheRedHotHatch actually they both have stuff suspension and yes the i30n has a bigger engine but it's got more weight to pull and not even the displacement doesn't matter since those to have the same power. Lightness is always the key for the track, you can't say that the 308 has a bad steering since it got a "3r"d place but obviously Hyundai is paying them, but come on faking lap times? In any track the 308 is 1 sec and above faster let alone the type who should have gotten the 1rst place

    • @Iron883Man
      @Iron883Man 6 лет назад +5

      _Alex_samaYT_ The 308 isn’t faster in every condition. Stop being a fanboy. I owned a 308 and now own an i30N. I know these cars very well and no, the Peugeot does not have anywhere near as stiff suspension as the i30 in track mode. And no, they don’t have the same power output. The Power in the N is available way earlier than in the 308 and across a much wider range in the rpm. For every track you can find where the 308 is faster you’ll find another one where the N is faster. For starters, the N is faster around the Nurburgring, where is was developed.

Weight balance? Power curve/tuning? Displacement advantage? Fuel rating requirement? Driving controls and their intuitiveness? Does the car inspire confidence to wring out all it has to offer? There are alot of reasons why one car could be "better" than another. You need to consider the overall package.
