Danilo Rodriguez agreed. I’ve also found a cheeky little hack to launch the M140i quickly.. it’s very simple and it involves 2nd gear.
Very true. I was drag racing at Crail recently in my manual M140i and just cannot launch anywhere near as quickly as the autos doing a 2nd gear launch. Launching in 2nd really helps control the wheelspin. Amazing cars though, love mine!

The M135i is more on the A35 level. All about segment share in market. Sorry BMW purists it's not a 6 cylinder rear drive... just a sign of the times. Would love to see all these cars on a track with the 135i in the mix. M140i is a monster hit hatch. Well done BMW

To be honest the face-lift 400 bhp rs3 is in a slightly different price category to these cars and would be an obvious winner, only interesting race for it with these hatches is a rolling race from 20mph with an m140 tbh

Somethings wrong with that RS3, it shouldn’t lose to the A45. I own one and it’s not just because I’m sour. 5 pot 2.5 beats 4 pot 2.0.....
A45 has more power, more torque and less weight 🤷🏻♂️
NickG24 displacement always wins in drag races, BHP doesn’t really matter as most RS3’s sit at around 380bhp (higher than the claimed 362 from factory). Watch Evo’s drag race of them both..
100% rs3 is quickest, I heard some may have a emission regulation which gives them less power
M140i is just a hot hatch monster esp when rolling but that exhaust doesn’t sound stock 😂

Not sure about that. My M140i dynod at 344bhp. They're just monsters on a roll. Mine was running over 450bhp with remap and downpipes. Hilariously quick.

Yeah, I think it’s because the 440 I has 326 PS and with m performance package he has 360. the m140 has this package already. He has only on paper 340 PS

Test drove S3 and a M240i honestly it was no contest in performance! So glad I went with that sweet sounding inline 6 that just happens to blow the doors of everything else come to find out!🙂

Reading the comments there are a few upset current gen RS3 owners. Seeing as the M140i is no more anyway actually having the previous gen RS3 is more interesting together with the old Merc A45.

That being said. In fairness it is the old RS3 and also the old M140i. If you where to compare new versions it would be facelift RS3 vs M135i x drive which came out in September which wouldn't stand a chance against the new RS3

Incredible engine. But it just dont have the good looks of the others.
Looks are definitely a personal thing and I quite like the fact the M140i is a bit understated. A lot of people like the looks of the RS3 but I actually think it looks a bit boring, if I was basing it on looks I definitely like the exterior of the A45 best!
@@gus8840 Yep, i just didnt liked the price of A45. Pump alil more cashflow in, and ull get an M3 for that.. Thats why i went for the GTI Clubsport instead. Which is half of an M3, but look better than a Golf R.
3DFX if I was going down the VW route I would take a Clubsport over a Golf R any day! Good choice 👍

@@donRageme as a meg 3 rs owner i must say they are reliable cars, 3 was bulletproof, 4 is ok. But i also admit a meg rs is not s drag racing car. It's designed with absolute best cornering abilities in mind.

Why would anyone be surprised the M140i won over haif a mile! The only 3 with a chance were the M140i, A45 and RS3 and with 340bhp and 369 lbs,ft torque and being lighter the M140i was always likely to be the quickest.
I’m reality the BMW will never be able to stretch its legs on our roads like that😂
I had a 65 Plate FL AMG A45 and drag raced alot of RS3's ... its all about who gets the better launch, they are both great cars ... The M140i is a beast of a motor but I also drag raced afew of them and never lost ... i think the AMG A45 driver didn't launch it well ... really good video though :)
@M'Load, 1Man Bukkake Baller. Cum hard or go home. - Half a mile, maybe, but the standard quarter mile and its AMG A45 all the way ... My AMG A45 was stock and dynoed 398.4 BHP, i had her from new and run her in properly and only used V Power+ fuel ... my mate has an M140i and he has never beaten me, close but i suppose its conditions etc ... the more recent RS3 would have beaten them all tbf

Yes, but so it should considering its £50k. I'd love an RS3 but I just couldnt justify the premium and there just isnt any good deals on them compared to BMW. I own the m240i and whilst it has its faults the b58 engine is incredible. I'd swap it for an RS though.
Could you please add a comment about tyres ? They can affect performance significantly, and (for example) @ 13:28 S3 sits on Falken tyres... Not having had them, I am unsure if they are as grippy as the stock tyre.... thanks

This deserves more views, you had proper drivers and this video wasn't biased to one brand only. Also because it's half a mile to give the BMW a chance. People on 1/4 mile drags be like the BMW is slow and sucks but they didn't know it catches up. Respect man nice video. I'm a big bmw fan
Credit to organising as many hot hatches in one day. I think we all know that the face lift RS3 would absolutely smash all of them, there are so many videos out there on RUclips that show the facelift RS3 smash the M140i and A45 but it's great to see how the preface lift RS3 does against the existing hot hatches.

BarisM140i I brought my Mrs the new x3 m40i with the b58 engine and it is a pretty strong engine tbh. Using dragy I’ve done 0-60 in 4.3 secs and 1/4 mile in 12.8 in wet conditions

You should’ve done a drag between the S3 and RS3. (Btw it’s unfair with the RS3 as it’s the pre facelift model, so not the newest one with the most power)
The new one is way more expensive than all the other cars so it makes no sense. As expensive as an M4 CP which would win easily over a 1/2 mile I would imagine.

@@93sal yea its overpriced as well. All mercs are overpriced. They have noce interiors but jesus. I drove an E400d the other day. Sticker price was 60k. I'd maybe pay 35k for a new one. 60k is insane. You can get a new 435d for late 30's. 435 is a much better car to drive. Merc have nicer interiors but not worth the extra cost. Madness.

Juan Covilla I own a Cupra 300 and recently out paced a 2019 JCW Clubman 306 BHP which I believe has the same engine as the M135i. I have also outpaced an S3 and Golf r, I am not saying my car is the quickest but it certainly is not as slow as the one on this video. My car is stock .
@@Bobbajobb956 I own the new 290 wltp cupra dsg (stock) and I know what you mean. Fastest I've had a go with been a Ranger Rover SVR 575PS the new one. We were neck and neck all the way rolling.

Personally been owning the GTI Clubsport for over 2 years (with same engine & turbo as the Golf R.) And all the power it have i can just tell you for everyday driving youd be hard pressed to feel that you need more power than that. ALSO id like to say, not everything is about power. For me something i lack in the Golfs are as comfortable seats like in a Volvo. Really wish it had that.. Not to say the seats in Golf are bad. Theyr good, just not as comfortable as example a bigger Volvo.
3DFX it’s not all about power all these hot hatches are all faster than u ever need day to day. For me cars have gotta sound good too which rules most of them fart boxes out. RS3 all round is the best daily simple as that
Automatics against manuals is just unfair these days, they are so quick in a straight line but so lame on a track or twisty road.
Good vid but should have pitted the automatics against one another and the manuals against eachother.
That's the hole point of the video, where is the fun in doing manual against manual and auto vs auto, its good to see a auto beat a manual and visa versa
@@tonylyons1274 no that is not the point of the video at all. Any of the autos in this test would have beaten any of the manuals as is shown in this video. Saving half a second in each gear change is too much for the manuals to contend with.

Track Time Videos It’s not only a factor of time to shift gear in a manual, the ratios are different too so they can claw back some (if not all) of lost distance. Manufacturers only state the times for auto gearboxes as ~0.1sec to 100 less than a Manual, but put in an extra gear (say 7-speed auto vs 6-speed manual) in order to cheekily convince the customer the auto is “faster”, as the price premium of the auto is up to $2500 extra, and possibly extra repairs over time, depending.
@@joebloggs5629 that's just not correct. Over a 1/4 mile the autos are not getting into 6th 7th or 8th gear, it's not just the time taken by changes but also the momentum lost. The comparisons between auto vs manual Golf R, M140i, S3, M2 etc show that the differences are vast. What manufacturer state as differences are incorrect much like their mpg suggestions.
That B58 engine is brutal, But I thought a little unfair throwing that 3.0 B58 in against the others I know some are pretty dam quick but when I saw the list of cars I was 90% sure who was going to come out on top.
M140i has a proper engine in it. That's all the difference versus these overblown four cylinders. It sounds all the better for it too.
Not hugely unexpected to me I’ve had a Golf R and M140i. Thought it’d be close with the A45 but M140 owners regularly report 350bhp+ on rolling road. That torque and gearbox makes it hard for rivals to live with!
