  • I check out online versions of "Hunger Strike" from Temple of the Dog, then did my own version. Had fun on this one. A song that never gets old.

    I think two things about this topic, which are not an attempt to sway you one way or the other, but just share my thoughts. 1) talking about the song is 100% a valid approach. After all, not many people on earth have the perspective you do on these songs. Not to mention if that's what naturally came out of you, then that's perfect. Making a video is hard enough as it is, I tend to think doing whatever comes naturally is the right thing. 2) for me, tabs aren't worth the effort. I think it would 5x my production time and effort, plus as a teacher I want my "students" to internalize playing the guitar. To speak it, so to speak. Having said that, if a song is too much for me to internalize I snap a photo of the tab I made for myself to keep track of things and share it on their website. Someone could make their own tab from what you are saying in a way that makes sense to them. Like you said, it can be dizzying trying to get every. single. nuance. of a song - things happen in the studio that are kind of happy accidents and it's hard to reverse engineer them on the super detail level sometimes, and it's rarely worth it for grasping 'what the song is all about' anyway. Smashmouth! All Star has a fun to play bassline that's rather simple (as I'm sure you know) and it's a song everyone either loves, hates, hates to love or loves to hate. Yes, you would send me your half of the video and I'll splice it together with my half :) I would be more than happy to reciprocate if you would like a video for your channel as well. No pressure on that point, I just didn't even think to offer until now :)

    • @RyanLendt
      @RyanLendt 4 года назад +2

      OR we could do the thing where i teach the guitar half on your channel so folks have to go here too:)

    • @RyanLendt
      @RyanLendt 4 года назад +1

      OR if you want to use this to redo one of your favorite sugar ray choices that would be rad too

    • @RyanLendt
      @RyanLendt 4 года назад +1

      perhaps a brief zoom chat at the top where I can ask you about what you're up to musically (and otherwise) these days so folks can know - or we can just make that part of the video splicing.

      Man I never replied to this. It's such a good comment with so much insight. So true.. to keep things simple. Appreciate your words and support. Yeah I like talking about the songs, because I suppose I've played all over the place and have so many experiences playing with bands and seeing a lot of the songs I'm doing played live by these bands. We did TONS of festivals, just year after year.. anyway good stuff thanks. let's do that video too

    I have to say that this is one of the most beautiful bass lines. I love the contrast of chords. Nevermind that Chris Cornell writer or that he & Eddie Vedder are perfection on this song. It gets me every time I hear it. I loved all your critiques. Awesome tiger shirt!! 🐆

    At 9:09 .....i dont know if Ament does that particularly in this song...but that is a VERY JeffAment thing he does in many songs to throw the harmony melody off for a bit and it fits well

    Such a great tune and album. I love how they all came together as a tribute for the guy who died in the group “Mother Love Bone”. I can’t remember his name (the lead singer). So cool that they did this album to kinda honor him.
    Love these videos Murph, keep em coming and keep rocking.

      It was Andrew Wood.. He was the guy.. super talented.. I didn't know this song was about him.. maybe it was..or the group idea was.. anyway.. yeah some really talented people were happening up there during that time.. a special time of music for sure

      Murphy Karges
      Ya, I was told Soundgarden and Pearl Jam got together as a tribute to Andrew Wood (thanx for name, I recognize it now) after he died.
      I was also told “say hello to heaven” is directly written for him!
      I wanna say, thanx! U always take time to reply to everyone, I think that’s freakin awesome man!!
      Keep rockin!!
      I look forward to watching more videos from u, they are always great!!

      Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament were part of MotherLoveBone and Cornell was a close friend of Wood so they all came together for a superBand Grunge album in his honor....Eddie Vedder was just kinda there tbh- he had nothing to do with MLB or Mr.Wood

    New comment because I know how replies get lost :) Something super easy for both of us - let's teach a song together, i'll do the guitar, you do the bass. I'll spend some time shouting you in the intro and linking to your channel, and we'll do a virtual high five. My channel is highly grunge-centric, but any song you fancy is just great, including but not limited to Sugar Ray

    When I first started learning this song I had found one video and Jeff used a 8 string or something but I can't find it now maybe I was dreaming ? Good video Murphy, from a person that watches a fair dinkam amount of bass cover/lesson/and whatnot videos. update: oh that was jeremy and a 12 string.
