He looks like he is annoyed with the sound man for not getting his volume right, but did the show anyway. Maybe the rest of the band was tired of being outshined by their singer and messed with his volume, this was a later concert after they reunited. It seems more like a lack of volume then effort. Not like all those old timers were out there banging their heads anyway.
You can tell he’s applying some sort of voice lesson applications. He’s easing into that head voice, not tightening that throat, sounds a little extra ‘crow-y’ but relaxed, and not as much distortion like in the badmotorfinger album. This is honestly the most consistent I’ve heard him live since his loudlove era.
He "missed" a lot of the high bits. Obviously on purpose. Maybe he didnt want to risk his vocal chords or just wasn't feeling it who knows...sure he could have still gone higher. Oh well still amazing. Wish he'd done some of the higher bits though.looking at him and mannerisms he didn't seem totally right so maybe it was that
Who else would you place next to Chris.. Me? Judas Priest's Rob Halford. Sabbath's Ronnie James. And mayhap Queensryche singer.. or the Disturbed fellow. But CC is first imo.
The fact is that he has such a complete domain of the beat, that he knows exactly where and when to make the hit. That's why his songs are difficult to hear, because he is not beating the shit out of the drums, what he does it's a complete balance of not playing too high and not playing too low
When he hit and held notes like the one at 3:47, there is something awe-inspiring, empowering and uplifting about it. The fact that there are so many performances like this, is something that people who admire the man and his music can be grateful for.

Christopher John Cornell (né Boyle; July 20, 1964 - May 18, 2017) Written by Soundgarden lead singer Chris Cornell, this is one of his more personal songs. It deals with the extremes of his personality: how he can feel like he's on top of the world one moment and in the gutter the next. The line, "I am looking California but feeling Minnesota" became one of the most memorable Soundgarden lyrics. Chris Cornell came up with that line when he was in a dour mood and looked at himself in the mirror. He was wearing his typical outfit of baggy shorts and a T-shirt (high fashion in the '90s), and realized that he looked like a carefree beachgoer, even though he didn't feel like one. Live performances of this song always included the "Chris Cornell Stomp," which became one of his signature stage moves. The band wasn't happy with the clip, which was directed by Matt Mahurin - he was also working Metallica's "The Unforgiven" at the time, and Soundgarden thought they were getting short shrift. Guitarist Kim Thayil was particularly frustrated, since his solo was edited out.
Seen him a year before his death Went to the upper most row in the corner of the amphitheater for a smoke and my friend and I couldn't believe how powerful his voice still sounded....in fact I was right in front of the stage in 96 when they played lollapalooza and he sounded way more powerful the next time I saw him 20 yrs later
As a Millennial given Badmotorfinger in 10th grade 2008. Later Audioslave, then Temple of the Dog. And holy shit I never would've thought 6 years later I'd see Soundgarden (w/ Nine Inch Nails). One of my most appreciative shows since Cornell is probably my favorite vocalist. Like I comment on every video with him, he's the Robert Plant of our time or his voice is Plant esque IMO
What on the surface looks like a laid-back or lifeless performance, is actually a soulful and powerful mike-drop. The longer it went on, the more I felt like they conveyed “we give you this much - because imore would be vulgar display of power.” Brilliant session.
