- Sometimes you have days when it all comes together and everything seems effortless. This was one of those days. I’d had a wild week, chasing mysto waves and getting kegged with mates. Conor Maguier and I had launched the ski, and been awed by the hoards of sea birds taking flight from the cliffs in the dawn light. We got so distracted by the birds we almost missed the tide! But the epic morning combined with the week before had me floating and laughing as I joined the tense line.
This wave was my second of the day. I’d already had a smaller wave so it wasn’t my turn to go, but as the wave stacked up I could see no one was going for it. I put my head down and paddled like feck. I was pretty late, so all my attention was on making the drop and getting my rail in. I didn’t even look up at the wave until I was halfway through the bottom turn. When I did, I was already locked into one of the biggest, roundest and most perfect tubes I’d ever been in. There was a moment of silence as the wave drew breath. The cliffs were perfectly framed by the crystalline blue water all around me. I glided through perfection. The wave heaved me into the channel in a gout of spray. In disbelief, I looked into the whooping faces of my brothers in the channel and stood stunned.

This athlete already surfed that wave a hundred times in his mind. That was just a lot of hard work and sacrifice coming together with the amazing moment of opportunity. Result. Pure joy.❤❤❤❤❤
Just absolutely incredible that wave is huge
Right up there with one of the best paddle ins ever anywhere?!
Beastial!!
Total amazing
I was thinking, damn, I would’ve taken one more stroke because it looked like he was going to get pitched.
He'll be straight to the Pub for a Pinte or ten after that session of heaving surf, your a charger mate, well done 💪🏄♂️
That is one sick barrel!🤙

Wow amazing wow congratulations historical
That's a bomb right there!
Tasty beers after that!
What a perfect huge right ……
adrenaline rush, a bit?
...call it a day.......go home after THAT!
We all love the amazing fotos and video but naming the place is unnecessary and disrespectful. I know, the magazines and surf websites expose everything but it's time to STOP!
So stop.
why is it disrespectful?
Take it easy bro no one's ever in a hurry to take an ice bath 😜✌️
@@alanchoke . Ask a local from a place that suffered/suffers overexposure. Showing great photos and videos, then naming spots, dismisses local surfers' desire to maintain some degree of tranquility and obscurity of their spots. You won't meet many surfers that say "I wish my favorite breaks would get more crowded." The direct ratio between media promotion and crowds is well known. Some photogs like Chris Klopf never name spots. He'll bar you just for asking haha
@@paulc6498 sad little man!
@@Don-du7du You cannot count on the cold to keep crowds at bay. I live in one of the coldest surf zones on earth. With the advent of super effective wetsuits and social media, the cold has done nothing to stop the crowds (except perhaps in deep winter.)
And our surf is lousy compared to the other side of the ocean!
