  • Nestled at the foot of the Sentinel on the tip of southern Africa, Dungeons is arguably the scariest, most challenging big wave spot in the world, according to three times Big Wave World Champ and XXL Big Wave Award winner, Grant Twiggy Baker.
TURN & GO takes you into the line-up and peels back the layers on this mythical surf spot, set against highlight sessions from 2023. Along the way we get some candid insight into the world champ’s drive to keep charging the biggest waves on the planet.

Going for the size is a challenge by itself, of course. But you guys seem to have the sharkiest waters, Great Whites! And the paddle out here looks heavy duty.

Grew up in hout bay in the 70s and nobody had considered surfing it then but almost got capsized with my adventurous father on his 18foot motorboat that got caught on a big swell there. Scary moment and lucky to be here to tell the tale

I,ve the chance to cross Twiggy path one time , That was in 1996 in Sumatra , Bawa right-hander , iSwell was very solid and this deepwater point break was known to be like a more perfect Sunset type of wave ( at this time, Earthquake in 2005 change the mechanic of the wave), at 12 to 15 feet it start to be a do or die pit and we saw this young guy with no leash going behind the peak and backdooring those huge barrel where you can fit a truck ,it was a shock to me because this guy was so calm and compose despite his young age , he impressed the all surfers present at this moment and German the owner of the losmen told me he never saw someone surf this wave like him .... many years later i'm still impressed by the line draw by Mr Baker

If your reading this Mr Baker ya got till you're 56.5 years old, after that yeah you can still charge the mack daddies but the mind body and spirit changes, and each year after that changes even more quickly, it's actually quiet trippy experiencing it all... Not saying ya can't charge till your 77, just saying there will be a change, it's just a reality so we all have to get in the prime time while we're in the the prime time. Peace and enjoy the moment

It seems so odd now, considering that big storms can happen just about anywhere and send swell to so many Continents' and Islands coasts. The difference is as stark as the change from analog to digital. It was cool to see the world open up. Cool to see so many people charging the new world.

This story rings my bell 🙂 I'm 50 myself this year and still love what's referred to as extreme skiing, but I think of it as free ride, park and fun 🙂 I can however tell my reaction time is just slightly slower now at my age, I've noticed my timing on really big jumps in park is not as sharp as it once was. Always thought I would need to stop in my early 50s, but just don't want to give it up 🙂 Keep charging!!

@@NowNowMedia And thanks for making this kind of film, I used to surf a bit in off season myself but its too far away now sadly 😞 But I have loads of respect for the guys that paddle these insane waves. Had a day out at Ulus in Bali some years back that was double head at times, and the experience of getting dragged by a couple of big sets at Temples as they were coming up in size does humble you for sure!!
