    I agreed to repair a friend's rear speaker grills on his 2002 Camry, but I only imagined it would involve this much work to remove that peripheral panels. Thank you so much for the insights here; you saved me a lot of guess work and headaches!

    very helpful on my 2006 Camry, thanks! As another viewer mentioned, there is a 10mm bolt under the SRS airbag cover. Also, when removing the side of the seat after removing the 12 mm bolt in the beginning, go gently and lift it far enough; I cracked the plastic clip on the seat and had to superglue to fix. Also on the plastic philips screws, turn them 1/4 turn and try to pull the head about 1/4 inch out with your nails. If it comes out, it's released. If not, turn another 1/4 turn and try. Otherwise, you can crack the screw case. Finally, a 10mm socket worked really nice to push down the metal retaining clips on the new speaker cover.

    I tried the "easy" method but it didn't work for me. So I bit the bullet and followed these instructions. Taking everything out and putting it all back worked like a champ. Just take your time and be organized. It really wasn't that difficult. Took me about 2 hours start to finish. Now my replacement grilles look great. One note: my 4-door 2005 Camry has a small cover in the middle of each of the top-side panels that reads "SRS Curtain Airbag." That covers a 10mm bolt. Pry up on the side toward the front of the car and remove the bolt with a socket wrench. Otherwise the two top-side panels pry off and snap back in place as described in the video.
    Thank you so much for sharing this how-to video.

    Very well done. So many Do it yourself videos are poorly done with the camera bouncing all over the place. You explained what you were doing and the camera angle allowed me to see well. I was actually looking for a video showing how to get to the top strut bolts and since my speaker covers also need to be replaced I can do both jobs at the same time. This was very helpful. Thanks for taking the time to do it right.

    I just pried mine up from the top, pushed the plastic crap through the holes, and snapped in the new ones. Took me maybe 30 minutes tops. This seems like serious overkill to me.
    Having said that, this is a good demonstration on how to disassemble the back panels in case you need to replace other components. Inside the right rear pillar you can see the keyless entry receiver. Some people's go bad and that's it right there for anyone who needs to replace it.

    • @artsnow8872
      @artsnow8872 Месяц назад

      Yes, when I pried my plastic speaker covers up, to remove them, the plastic pins broke; which seems unavoidable. The broken pins are no problem since we are replacing the grills, anyway. If you are replacing the speakers, the method shown seems best.

    Thanks for the detailed instructions and video. I replaced the grills as described no problems due to detailed video and tips..... great video. I did not use the drill, just used the blades from utility knife to shave off the melted plastic works great. Also did this work on a hot summer day in the drive way...the heat made it easy to work with all the plastic panels, clips and molding..something to remember if you are having hard time with the plastic parts.

    What you have watched was my 2006 Camry speaker grille covers being replaced. This is a labor-intensive replacement but the parts are relatively inexpensive. You can do it yourself but it takes time. I found this shop to be quite helpful. The heat of the Florida sun seems to cause speaker grille covers to deteriorate and the crumbs from the old grille covers if not replaced will affect the sound. Six months later the replaced covers look like new.

I have a 2006 with side curtain airbags, so there is a small cover on each upper side piece that needed to be pried out and a bolt behind it that needs removed. This was a great video. I just did it myself yesterday and probably saved a bunch of money. Thanks - would not have even attempted it if I had not seen this.
    However, I found that going into the trunk and completely removing the black seat back panel at time 4:25 - 5:00 was unnecessary. I just removed the top four plastic clips and pulled the back seat panel back far enough to be able to remove the top deck panel that holds the speaker grills. Also I used a 1/4" drill bit to drill out the holes.

    Use a drill to round out the holes after you get the covers off. Then the posts will go through with no issue. The clips won't go on easy so use a 10mm socket and extension shaft. Then push down on clips and rap with hammer a couple of times. The clips will then seat tight.

    The whole back panel area looks completely different on my 2002 Camry. I also have an itching suspicion that there is an easier way to access the speakers without removing the panel from the car. I’m just too scared of breaking stuff to find out

    The 1997-2001 range is pretty similar, from what I can tell. There might be some slight differences but it's essentially the same job.

    If this video isn't gonna be edited to accommodate removal of the 10mm bolt hidden underneath the SRS AIRBAG cover plate that holds the rear C pillar covers in place then you should take it down. Failure to make note of this combined with the confidence the viewer may have in your knowledge and thoroughness could very likely lead to them damaging their vehicle. Outside of this very big detail, it's overall a very good instructional video.

    I need to get access to that door control module on that side panel. Is an air bag there? Do I need to disconnect the battery? Thank you!
