I used to live on Staten island for many years and watching this video bring back profound memories. I used to ride the ferry every day to and from work.

Lived in SINY for 25 years graduated from Tottenville HS, remember bus routes, Staten Island Ferry, High Rock in Richmond, Boat Captains, SUNY, CUNY, Upstate, Subway, airport, bridges, tunnels. Retired US Army and currently still working and seeing this is an accurate experience from Manhattan to Staten Island. (2020) (Then about the same 1981-till)

I had a great ride on the Staten Island Ferry in 1998. With 3 friends we stayed near wall street and woke up to walk to the ferry and take it over to Staten Island. It was a beautiful day and I got good pictures of the Statue of Liberty and lower Manhattan. At Staten Island we boarded a bus that took us to the Verazanno Brigde and we ran the NYC Marathon. Great day. Only time I have ridden the Ferry.

New York is a fantastic city to visit. So much to see, so much to do. The Staten Island ferry is one of the things we didn't do 2014 when we where there...
Thanks for sharing your ride from March 2019! Greetings from a rainy Gothenburg and wishing you a nice weekend!

The trip to Staten Island is free and is something I do every time I go there, if you ever go there I recommend you spend some time on the island and visit some of the places along the railway

The ONLY ferry that has a chime before announcements, and check out those 80s multicoloured seats.

I could do without the singer. I used to ride the Staten Island Ferry all the time in the old days (my old young days) when it was a nickle each way. In the winter time, a hot coffee or chocolate and a hot dog at the on board "snack bar". Best cheap entertainment in the city. Best view of NY, Brooklyn and the Statue of Liberty. Amazing.

I used to ride the ferry as a child and teen all the time just for the fun of it, it was only a nickel (though I understand it's free now). There are great views of the harbor, Manhattan skyline, Brooklyn, New Jersey, Governors Island, the Statue of Liberty etc. It's great on a sunny afternoon or late at night or in a snowstorm. Very fond memories.

Do they have wifi on the ferry?
In the late 60s the terminal at Staten Island was pretty Spartan. Busses met commuters.

Are the only open decks at either end? You certainly get a good view, but really? 6000 passengers? How crowded do the terminals get for heaven's sake?

Amazing how it is still so cold that late into March, you can even see the sun is relatively high in sky, yet it still looks very wintry and bleak. Also some videos mention how tourists can be scammed by touts selling tickets on this ferry and most are African American.
