- The Staten Island Ferry is a public transportation service that operates between Manhattan and Staten Island in New York City. It is a free ferry service that runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and carries over 22 million passengers annually.
The ferry departs from Whitehall Terminal in Lower Manhattan and St. George Terminal in Staten Island, with trips taking approximately 25 minutes each way. The ferry offers stunning views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the Manhattan skyline, making it a popular attraction for tourists and locals alike.
The service has been in operation since 1905, and the current fleet of ferries includes eight vessels, with the newest ferry, the "MV Empire State VI," added in 2001. The ferries are operated by the New York City Department of Transportation, and passengers are allowed to bring bicycles and strollers onboard.
The Staten Island Ferry has been featured in various movies and television shows, including "Working Girl," "Spider-Man: Homecoming," and "Mad Men." It is also a symbol of resilience, having continued to operate even during times of crisis, including the September 11 attacks and Hurricane Sandy.
Overall, the Staten Island Ferry is an essential transportation link between Staten Island and Manhattan, offering both a practical means of travel and a unique sightseeing opportunity.

Enjoyable Staten Island ferry ride 😎It was nice to see the Statue of Liberty 🗽even from the far distance 🙂Thank you for sharing this nice premiere A K 🙂👍!!!
It was so nice to see the Statue of Liberty again!
Woohoo for another Staten Island Ferry ride! It was nice to see the beautiful Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty on a sunny day. 😍 🗽Thank you for sharing this relaxing scenic ferry ride, AK! 🤗⛴
You’re welcome! It was fun to ride the Staten Island ferry again
The best thing about the Staten Island Ferry is that it is free! One of the best bargains for any tourist visiting NYC as you get a free ride across the NY harbor with great views of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline which is particularly beautiful at night.
Glad to see you back in New York I love your new videos no does them better than you kid
Great video. Having been to NYC only a couple times and briefly, I forget how big a role the water plays in its landscape. Hoping to get out that way this summer for a longer visit. Thanks! -H
Awesome! I hope you make it out here too
Good Friday Morning My Friend IAM Hoping That You Are Having A Faithful Day This S I Boat Ferry Ride Is Phenomenal Thank You So Much For Inviting All Of Us To Ride The Ferry Along With You Much Blessings And Love Always Ms British Gray From Tampa Florida 😊
You’re welcome! Hope you have a good day too.
In 1987 l spent 2 weeks in Staten Island, one night we took the Ferry, it was windy and. cold but l still remembered the thrill of seeing the Statue of Liberty and the lights from Manhattan. What fond memories!!!. Thanks AK.!!
You’re welcome, it was so nice to ride the Staten Island Ferry again!
Thanks ultra much for sharing that dominating premiere my nyc friend ActionKid! You're the best! :) 😊
You’re welcome!
Lived in Staten Island in the early 60s, my Aunt lived there from the 1940s to the 1980s. It was always fun to ride the ferry boat to and from work down in the Wall Street area. I am sure they have better radar in 2023 but back in the 60s if you ran into heavy fog at night the boat came to a slow crawl or stop, sounding their horn repeatedly with the crew outside looking for a possible approaching boat.
Both Jersey City & Hoboken have made a complete turnaround & are great places now. Back in the day, you would think twice about walking around there. Bayonne was my original stomping grounds…that’s how I remember.
They’ve really become great places to visit and live
I used to work for MILITARY SEALIFT COMMAND out of BAYONNE NJ- AWESOME 😎
Thanks Action Kid for recording this experience. I was curious if this boat does a back and forth from Manhattan so that answers that for me!
Hi from Bloomington Illinois first subscriber 👋🏾
We loved the Staten Island Ferry when we were in NY in 2020. We loved it 5 or 6 times , lol
That’s great
So cool water ride! Thank you, AK! ❤
This was wonderful! Do you plan a trip to the Statue of Liberty soon?
Thank you so much! I’m not planning to visit the Statue of Liberty anytime soon.
Fantastic trip, came in on the Qm2 in2019 ,brings back loads of memories.
Hi AK so glad to see you back in NYC.
Thank you, Action kid, very impressive video.
Thanks AK for another visit to
staten island I'm born and raised there to the age of 12 now living in Pennsylvania I would luv to visit and ride the ferry ⛴️ myself when given the chance it's been years
My pleasure!
Great walk seeing all the newness. My dad used to ride the lightrail from time to time. Views of NYC are amazing too.
Thanks for watching! The Light Rail is very convenient!
Thanks for taking me for a ride with you! That was amazing
Much appreciated!
Ty.Ak❤😊
I went to that Staten Island Outlet Mall twice. The Kings Plaza and Atlantic Terminal mall are busier.
The Staten Island Ferry was featured in an episode of I Love Lucy . It was one of the few scenes done with only Lucille Ball and William Frawley and no other cast members .
Really cool
I went to the Outlet Mall twice by the Staten Island Ferry. It is good experience to see the harbor view, but shopping experience is so so .
Cool boat ride 😎🗽🙌
Great! Love it! That is a LOT of people tho! lol
Can you still buy food 🥘 and beer 🍺 on the ferry? Was on it 30 yrs ago and it was fun! Steven from Boston Ma! 🇺🇸😎⚓️🍀
That duckie at 5:49 seemed very unbothered by the boat. lol. Was more focused on whatever fish he was divin for! 😊
Oh, still in NYC. I was hoping to catch you in the streets of Miami. I was there last week. Maybe next time I'm in Miami I will see you out & about 😊
No way I was back in NY in early April, rode the ferry out to SI a couple times. Can confirm this is what it looks like!
28:47 I did not realize the NYC Harbour ferries also served Staten Island too.....unless it was a charter cruise.....you should take the small boat over to Staten some time if they have a regular service......I guess the big ferries are a novelty tho.....
wOW AK, those were some powerful shots you took of the skyline of NY and NJ, man.
FUGGABOUTIT😲🤌
Did do the same in January 1995. But no people and 25 cents return fare
A tour of Staten Island would be interesting. My understanding is that it's the least urbanized of the boroughs. I've read proposals for subway connections never happened because of cost.
I’ve done several videos and live streams on Staten Island before. It’s really a large borough with much to see!
It’s the greenest borough and a nice change of scenery from rest of the city, from what I’ve read.
Staten Island Ferry is perfect to see the Statue of Liberty if you don't want to go the base and crown
What is the tall building with the round facade at 6:10 in the video named? Thanks for another awesome show.
@@xww.. Thank you so much.
Get a burger at Shake Shack right there at the outlet mall when you arrive in SI or take the bus down Bay Street to Lakruwana Sri Lankan restaurant!
I have only seen the Statue of Liberty from the air
🎉
I wonder how many cameras and phones are under that water?
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Where is AC?
It's too bad you got stuck with one of the older boats without the outdoor deck.
Many years ago they all had the outside decks that went the length of the boat. Was wonderful in the spring, summer and fall to sit out there.
Super super super 🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🤩😍👍👏💋💋💋♥️
The ferry is a big bugger, isn't it.
Why you are not talking in this video?
Anyone saw the one World Trade Center?
wonder what % are tourists ?? 80% ??
Well, during rush hours it is mostly people commuting to the city to work and home again.
Other times during the day? Who knows?
I hope you now realize moving to Miami was a big mistake. Where are you going to get your content? Come back home.
It is your wishful thinking that he made a mistake moving, but AK is proving you incorrect as he is enjoying his travels to other cities. Are you saying he can't find content to create from other places in the WORLD besides NYC? 🙄
AC can still travel all over the place and still be home base in MIAMI! Plus he won’t have to deal with the winter weather everyday Steven from Boston MA!😎🇺🇸⚓️🍀☃️
Have you ever been to SOUTHERN FLORIDA ? Plenty of content and I do mean plenty?🇺🇸
@@stevegiblin270 AK has been doing a fabulous job covering different parts of Florida in Miami, Key West, St. Augustine, Tampa, Orlando, and etc! 😎
@@stevegiblin270 Lived there from 1969 to 2020, will take the NYC area anytime.
The Staten Island ferry is awful. A wave of tourists push and shove in order to get a window seat instead of paying for a proper sightseeing tour. The Staten Island ferry is free to ride, so there are plenty of mentally ill homeless people walking back and forth asking for money. Outside the ferry terminal on the Manhattan side, there are plenty of drug addicts and aggressive tour guide ticket sellers as pushy as used car salesmen. Now, when you reach the Staten Island side, the ferry terminal is inundated with homeless people loitering everywhere.
Very relaxing except for that screaming kid
