    Thank you so much for these brilliant tutorials! I have an old AEG Electrolux dryer. To run it i have to manually spin it at first and then close the door hoping it takes off on its own which it sometimes does. When that works it spins regularly for a while and then stops again. Could the motor capacitor be the problem?

    hi, my dryer only spins one way now. when it reverses it spin it doesn't move, is this a capacitor issue? thank you some much for your great content, very much appreciated!

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  7 лет назад

      Thanks for the comments. The problem is likely to be the capacitor but could be the timer/module. We would suggest replacing the capacitor as they fail more frequently.

    Any idea what would cause the dryer to work fine for 7t% of the cycle then when it stops to change direction it turns very slowly creating a buzzing sound?

  • @ElliottHerron

    I somehow missed the part of the video where you actually diagnosed the capacitor.

    Had a progressively louder humming/vibrating noise from behind the front fan on a Bosch condensing dryer. Fan is fine but last night it popped the main fuse mid cycle. Took sides off, two capacitors situated behind the fan. All clean. Not an old machine. If I disconnected each capacitor one at a time and went to run a cycle would you expect the main fuse to trip at the consumer unit immediately? It does. Regardless of which capacitor is disconnected or if both are connected as normal. I’m struggling to know if it’s the issue. Certainly sounded just like other capacitor issues posted online

    hi i placed the drum shaft and back bearing in my indesit tumble dyer myself took me 2 hours but i did it . very proud of myself .. but when i put everything back together i found that the drum was turning slowly than normal when i put clothes in drum.. it was turning and rotating then it would stop and making buzzing sound i double checked the belt and thats perfectly fine nice an tight but i am just wondering would it be the the capacitor ??
    any tips to what it may be ?

      Hi Frances, sounds like a faulty capacitor so try replacing as they do fail with age.

      @eSpares  7 лет назад +1

      The reason why we titled the video 'How to diagnose' is we try and show how to tell that the problem is due to a failing capacitor as well as replace it.
      We hope you still found the video useful.

    • @cherryturbojames
      @cherryturbojames 7 лет назад +2

      oh yeah the video was useful it shows how to change it ! i assume that if the motor fails to turn or is very slow to start turning then more than likely the capacitor is at fault. if thats right then maybe put this in the video description to help people out. i always come back to espares i still have the pen fridge magnet and toy van you sent me

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  7 лет назад

      The script says" Now motor capacitors can be a real issue with condenser tumble dryers. As the machine ages the capacitor can fail progressively causing start-up issues when turning or not starting up at all. They can also short causing a loud buzzing noise and no rotation."
      To test correctly you would need a multi meter with a capacitance range like: www.espares.co.uk/product/es1741061/
      If you have any of the symptoms above it is the most likely cause of your problem.

    Hi, does it matter which way round the wires are connected to the new capacitor or does it not make a difference ? Thanks

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  6 лет назад +2

      Hi John, not on these capacitors as they pass AC current so are not polarised.

    • @bigjohn3618
      @bigjohn3618 6 лет назад

    On my Indesit IDV65, when I press the button to start the drier going, it just produces a brief hum and the machine does nothing. The hum quickly fades away and pressing the button again doesn't produce any sound. If I come back later and try again it produces the same hum briefly. Does this sound like a capacitor problem, or a burnt out motor? Thanks

    • @eSpares

      Hi Carpil, it is more likely to be the capacitor than the motor but check both.

      This error suggests a faulty heater assembly (probably caused by blocked filter/condenser or stopping when hot). To replace the heater see our video:

    Hi, My Drier only works ONCE every week or so. It will do one load, when it stops after completion, it will not work again, there will be no power light to the programme section. If I leave it a week or two - put clothes in then plug in it will work but only the once, if I open the door during the cycle it will stop and not start again and no power light to programme section but power on light is on - any clues to what is going wrong?

    • @eSpares

      Hi Malcolm, it would depend on the type of capacitor on the machine, if unsure use a pair of long nose pliers to check before removing.

    got a whirlpool cabrio dryer everything works but rhe drum doesn't spin. ive checked belt thinking it was that, belt is fine. replaced the thermal fuse. could it be the capacitor or the motor

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  7 лет назад

      Hi Jeff, you did not give a model number so just check if there are two belts on your model as the motor belt may have failed. If the motor does not run the fan the likely cause is the motor capacitor as these often fail. For more info see our video: ruclips.net/video/u6614TVugVc/видео.html

      MOD: WED6200SW1 there is one belt around drum.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  7 лет назад

      There does not appear to be a motor capacitor listed for your model.
      If the motor has three or more electrical connections and no brushes it is an induction motor and will either have a motor capacitor fitted near the motor or be supplied directly from the control board that may have failed.

  • @BonStark86

      Hi there, oddly shortly after this message it started working! After pressing the start button and hearing a short buzz and then nothing (this is what it did before) I thought either the replacement capacitor was faulty or it was something else, however after about 20mins it just came on and started working again! (I think the on switch must of been left on when I thought it wasn't working). Is this normal? Would the capacitor need 'warming up' in any way prior to use?

    if there was four wires that came off how did you connect only two????

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  7 лет назад

      two wires are connected to each 'part of the capacitor, usually they are connected to one terminal and 'piggy backed' together. If your capacitor has four connections there will be two sets of two. Usually there are only two colours of each so join red to red and black to black then connect the reds to one connection and the blacks to the other.

    hI, i WAS WONDERING WHY YOU DID NOT SHORT OUT THE CAPICATOR???

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  8 лет назад +1

      Thanks Sal for your comment. The capacitor is connected to pass AC to the second motor winding and discharged by the motor so will not hold a charge.

    Is there a centrifugal switch in the motor? My motor has a switch but only one capacitor. Why is that?

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  4 года назад

      Hi no avail, on the one in the video it didn't have a centrifugal switch but it does depend on the design, tumble dryers generally only require one capacitor to start the motor.

    • @lJUSTwanaCOMMENT

      @@eSpares -- Thank you for your reply. yes, I have learned it is a capacitor-start motor. I'm so used to working with 3-phase and cap start-run motors i had a bit of tunnel vision.

    Hi there, I've changed my belt, pulley and capacitor and my hotpoint aquarius TCM580 and it still isn't working, could you help me please

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  6 лет назад

      OK Emilya, so does your dryer heat or buzz when you press the start button and what is the model number?.

    • @emilyevans961
      @emilyevans961 6 лет назад

      TCM580BP(UK), yes it buzz's and I can feel heat, but it smells

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  6 лет назад

      Good now we can be clear that it sounds like a motor problem. It will smell and damage the heater if it is left on without the motor running so when testing turn on only for a few seconds before opening the door to stop it. Can you turn the drum by hand? and is the motor buzzing continualy when start has been pressed?.

    • @emilyevans961
      @emilyevans961 6 лет назад

      If I turn the drum by hand it will start, yes it carries on with the buzzing noise

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  6 лет назад

      If the drum starts with a push you have a faulty capacitor.

  • @ianwilliams4787
    @ianwilliams4787 6 лет назад

    Would be an idea to discharge it first..😢

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  6 лет назад

      Thanks for the comments Ian. It is generally a good idea to discharge capacitors before handling them.
      If you look at any circuit that uses a motor capacitor you will find it is supplied with AC voltage and across two motor winding's that will ensure it is always discharged.
