  • Has your tumble dryer drum stopped turning? If so it could be the capacitor that needs replacing. Watch our 'how-to' video on replacing your capacitor. Capacitors can be found at: www.ransomspares.co.uk/parts/...

Good one but I don’t recall the part where he explains that the capacitor needs to be discharged before removal.

I followed your guide and got shocked so bad I let sight for 2 days!
I'm joking on this occasion but please change the Title to include the text ALWAYS DISCHARGE THE CAPACITOR! to stop that joke becoming a reality. Lots of people wth zero knowledge will follow this really good guide to the letter. All the best.

    ALWAYS DISCHARGE A CAPACITOR FIRST

Woahhhhhh !!!!!!!! ALWAYS discharge the Capacitor before you touch them!!! It can give you one hell of a jolt if you grab a handful without shorting it out first!

Is shorting it the way to drain capacitors? Odes it damage them or will they be fine?

@@reallycooluleh never short across a capacitor that was done back in the old days on the CRT TV's. Safest way is to put a multimeter onto volts range, a probe onto each terminal (no polarity so doesn't matter) and watch the reading slowly decrease down to 0V. Then you can disconnect. Not always but often you can physically tell if a capacitor is fault by its appearance eg. Split or bulged.

Thanks. For taking time to make the video. I hope all the ones who criticize have videos. Instead of trying to be very smart. And end up seeing videos to fix there own things.

If you have a good multi-meter you can test the capacitor. It is the symbol muf.
If you discharge it and see Sparks than chances are it is not defective.
Usually I know that a capacitor is defective if motor doesn't spin but hums instead.
If you are able to manually spin the motor to give it a little help to start and it starts working then a capacitor is certainly the problem.
The only thing that bothered me is when he took picture of wires on cap and said note how they are wired.
Capacitors have no polarity. There is no specific line or load with a cap. Just pop the wires back on it. You can't mess it up 😜

Stupid question.. but to discharge the capacitor with a multimeter. Do i pull the plugs off the capacitor first and then put the probes on? Does it matter which probe goes on what pin?

Only one important safety instruction missing. CAPACITORS CAN KILL IF NOT DISCHARGED. Please check how to discharge on youtube first. Otherwise this video is very good.

With regard to the capacitor being dangerous is that this one was faulty, so it couldn’t literally have the capacity to do its job, ergo no capacity to give you a jolt......maybe, but safety first and all that!

To everyone saying discharge a capacitor first. This capacitor is dead so therefore doesn't hold a charge.
