Thanks for your helpful video which I followed to sort out my noisy HotPoint drier. Getting the old fan out was a struggle though - the drive shaft was a bit rusty and the fan didn't budge after several minutes of patient pulling, prying and WD40. I finally resorted to carefully cutting it off out with a hacksaw......
I have AEG condenser dryer that makes a noise which is not normal in its cycle. Also it dose not vibrate with the abnormal noise, as explained in your video. Like previous post comments, your video would be more informative, if you could have demonstrated an example of the sound. I found the video very helpful in demonstrating on how to change condenser fan part. Thank you
Hi Sandi, thank you for your post. We are glad to hear that you found this video useful. We agree that showing the sound would have been more helpful, however the dryer used in this video did not have a distinct noise.
My suggestions for a possible free fix: I had the same problem with loud noise coming from this fan. I found out that the axle of the fan worn out the hole of the fan. This caused the axle to slip inside the fan without moving the fan (or much slower), and this caused the noise. I put some Teflon tape on the axle and put back the fan on it, which now had a very thight fit. I had to apply much force by hand to get the fan moving very slowly to the back of the axle. Instead of putting back the retaining clip (which didn't have much retaining force (anymore?) to it imo), I put two tie wraps on the axle and pulled them as thight as possible (and cut them short afterwards). If it doesn't hold up (I think it will do fine, it's holding up for a few weeks now) I'll try some other retainer like a small hose clamp or something similar. Thanks eSpares for the usefull video! It pointed me in the right direction. Though I couldn't detect any warping of the fan like you mentioned.
+Chris Shackleton Thanks for your comments. The noise is a very distinctive 'drone' but this one was not showing the problem. The noise can increase when warm as the fan then flexes more so going further out of balance.
You should have the noise on this post...telling us what it sounds like to you is subjective, we cannot go about ordering parts willy nilly or we would not be on this post desperately seeking an affordable way to do it ourselves. I highly doubt a professional would be on this post at least we certainly hope any professional has had proper training then shouldn't we?
Hi Tamara, we agree that showing the noise generated can be useful. However the dryer we had did not show this very well as the fan was not far of balance. We therefore new it was important to describe the problem and how to resolve it even though we could not demonstrate the noise. Noise can be subjective and unless it is very clear could confuse, if the machine is vibrating and noisy as it is turning the problem almost certainly will be this fan.
I have the loud noise to start then it goes away after a few seconds , also when I start the drier it sometimes doesn’t spin , I have to manually spin turn it then try again, or turn it on empty then stop and quickly put clothes in and turn back on again
Hi Awesome Gary, check the motor capacitor first as that would stop the drum from spinning, the noise could be coming from anything so you need to try to isolate where it is coming from which should help find what is causing the noise.
Thanks for the reply. Its a Hotpoint TCM580P. It was making a rumbling noise and took the cover off and saw the fan was still spinning after the drum stopped. There was no clip on the fan and the teeth had worn away.
Here we go after a year I am here again. This time I have very loud banging noise and scratching noise, the fan goes around fast but out of balance. Loud banging noise is not constant, I had to turn the Tumble Dryer off immediately as it sounded really bad. Is this a fan problem or something else?
Noise induced by fan vibration are fairly common on all driers as they tend to be made from plastic and can distort with heat. Banging noises tend to be bearing related , either phosphor bronze bearings or drum support wheels ,depending on the make and design of the drier.
@@eSpares Thanks for the reply. The noise was caused when the belt split and stuck on the tension pulley. I had to cut it from the pulley. I found the belt was a bit loose but still put together and everything was ok until I came and checked the washing inside was still wet then I realized the drum is not moving. I ordered a new belt to see what happens. I'l update.
Hi Andy, as the dryer is not completly sealed you may get some air coming out as the vent is at the front right hand side, if you are getting nothing coming out from the vent but just from underneath then that is a problem.

That’s a shame you never demonstrated the sound before repairing

Hi Jerome, thank you for your comments and we hope the repair lasts as well and remember to like the video.
Mine doesn’t have that donut thing l. Hoping that’s not a problem..
Would have been to have heard the noise before and after. But ty for video.

@@eSpares Is there anything else could cause the loud noise part from the fan?

very very thanks
Hi Dezső Nagy, your welcome.
Hi there, should the Recirculation fan on the back have one of those spring clips on also ? Cheers.
Hi Simon, it does depend on your model but usually, the back one has a nut rather than a circlip
Thanks for the reply. Its a Hotpoint TCM580P. It was making a rumbling noise and took the cover off and saw the fan was still spinning after the drum stopped. There was no clip on the fan and the teeth had worn away.
Hi Simon, looking at the diagram it does show a clip not a nut so you will need to replace it.
eSpares great stuff. Thanks for taking the time to check. Will get one sorted cheers.

@@ajb5114 Good luck!
I don't have the fan cover?
Hi AJB, your model may be different but the video should be similar to help with the repair.
Mines 2 weeks old and it's started making a whine
Hi Andy, That's not a good start but at least it's under gurantee so have it checked out and let us know how you get on.
@@eSpares can I just ask, my drier is a indeset idc8t3 , is air supposed to be blowing out underneath on the right hand side ?
Hi Andy, as the dryer is not completly sealed you may get some air coming out as the vent is at the front right hand side, if you are getting nothing coming out from the vent but just from underneath then that is a problem.
used to be fixing meant fixing not replacing....just being passive agressive I guess. Just miss the qualities that are clearly missing in modern man.
