    The spawn system pretty much makes Domination pointless. You don't have a home flag and just spawn randomly and have just jump on whatever flag you're near. There is no more fighting over the B flag which is the while point of the mode.

      I wonder if it's changed for obj modes because I had time were I spawned away from my teammates near our flag a few times if Im remembering right

      I hate to say this, but it was rarely fighting over B, it was spawn trapping at A or C.

    Smaller 3 lane maps definitely need the more traditional spawn style. Large maps play much better when spawns are at midpoints so you don't have to run across the whole map each time. I think spawns should also be primarily enemy based, but I hate when they are too sensitive and you single handedly flip spawns by running around the map

    IW is one of the most stubborn dev teams I've ever seen, so there's exactly a 0% chance we go back to normal spawns from these spawns. If they're reluctant to change the perk system, which I haven't seen a single person say they liked the current iteration of, they're never gonna change these spawns.

      they used to have it in MW19, which caused spawn trapping in places like picadilly if the team managed to get you one side of the map. they changed it

    The only sure thing is that Activision/IW is going to do things their way with seemingly total disregard in relation to user suggestions when it comes to gameplay. They will makes changes to the game like interface and some options but no change when it comes to actual match play.

      @@K_FI_L_Y_P_S_O in my opinion their beta testing is a marketing/sales tactic more than testing. Sure they collect data to improve the game but that’s mainly fixing bugs and smoothing out the post launch product. They’re not fundamentally changing anything the community asked for though. I mean we can’t really complain bc it’s basically a free trial but it’s weird that the franchise keeps trying to convince the community that they’ve “listened” and are making changes based on the feedback bc clearly they’re not budging.

      @@theclamhammer4447 I agree with you. It's less about making the best game possible and more about selling the most copies. I don't think they'll even have time to make big fixes (like the perk system) before launch which is another reason this "beta" is so pointless.

    Map control is the most important part of COD and they’ve taken that away. Gaining it, losing it, taking it back. That’s the COD flow. It’s sad that they are so stuck on this spawn system. I feel like it hurts the game.

      Everything infinity ware has done is the worst. Doors, no dead silence perk, no working minimap, horrible spawn system. I don’t understand how people actually think iw is a good company

    Squad spawns may seem like a good idea at first, but it just keeps a losing team constantly on the back foot as they'll never be able to gain map control.

      No red dots on map, and squad spawn means you can’t get map control or even know where tf people are. They’re all over the place and there’s no flow.

      You'll always get one over-eager player who pushes too far into a spawn which will then reset the map spawns. Which usually gives an opportunity to take map control, depends on how bad a team is doing.

    It actually kinda crazy how bad some of these "design choices" really are, especially when you consider them in conjunction with one another. The spawns are more random and less predictable so it's difficult to know where the enemy is. Then on top of that the minimap doesn't show gun fire so even if enemies shoot you still can't really get any indication of where they are. With these two choices, all of the sudden UAVs become infinitely more valuable because it's the only reliable way to get an indication of enemy positions. So naturally a lot of people if not most people are going to run them as a streak. Which in turn makes most games turn into a race for the first UAV which snowballs into earning perks faster as well. Couple this design decision with the fact that ghost is a final perk unlocked late in the game and you end up with one team getting a UAV first and then dominating the other team for the majority of the game because they have an enormous amount of informational advantage. It's actually one of the most toxic game flows I've ever seen in a CoD.

    I dont think any of the week 1 changes they said they were going to make were implemented. Footsteps sound just as loud and the perks definitely aren't "drastically" charging faster if faster even at all.

      The loudness of footsteps is still the same, range might be slightly lower.
      Perks are still stupid slow to charge. Only played few games today but took half a game domination to get ghost

    I like that you give all this nice feedback, but judging by the latest post from IW, they don’t care and won’t change anything other than bugs. It’s so weird that they are making a game for them, not the consumer..

      But they are making it for the consumer, just not the “hardcore” CoD gamers that watch these videos and understand the systems.
      The consumer they want is exactly the same as the consumer they wanted for MW19. The ones that don’t care about spawns, don’t care about perks, don’t care about footstep audio, the casuals who want to jump in a shoot at some people for a while.
      Except for some new paint (ok not counting the new perk system debacle and coolish gunsmith changes) this gameplay is exactly MW19.

      @@willallclasses8585 The issue is that if you're not going to cater decisions to the hardcore, long term player (which is ultimately what IW are basing these decisions around, trying to retain players for as long as possible) then what's the point? Especially when it comes to needlessly trying to reinvent the wheel in regards to stuff that didn't need to be changed to begin with, like the mini-map, and the squad spawning issue.
      Casual players will slip in and out of the game and play other games. The long term fanbase is made up of COD lifers, those who generally know what to expect with a COD game and enjoy it for what it is. That's ultimately who IW should be catering their decisions towards - but considering their conduct in people (rightfully) pointing out the problems with their decisions and them telling those people to go pound sand, it doesn't bode well for the long term health of the game now, does it?

    I feel like this spawn system also helps campers. If someone is holed up somewhere, they now have their teammates spawning on them protecting them, or at least making me reveal myself to the camper.

      Double edged sword though. If it keeps his team spawning in the same location, then it will end up being a camp-able spawn for the other team. Or just attract much more attention to his hidey hole than is safe. Plus, with the drill charge being a thing now, dealing with campers once you know where they are is much easier now. That thing is nuts.

    Typical Infinityward listening to our feedback. "Drastically" quieting the footstep audio and increasing the perk progession speed both by 5%. I barely notice any difference from last week, hopefully it's not just me.

I mean, it's basically a meme for Infinityward games to be campfest, outside of maybe Infinite Warfare. They even brought back the 725 shotgun despite it being probably one of the most hated guns in MW2019.

    I also think if they’re not gonna remove name plates above enemy heads, they might as well take them away from teammates. Main reason is, it’s super confusing when there’s multiple teammates and enemies in the same area you can’t tell who is who.

    Excellent breakdown Ace. Sometimes you can just tell the game doesn't feel right, but maybe can't quite put your finger on it. Stuff like this highlights and describes concepts that you may take for granted after years of playing COD.

    Last weekend I literally spawned in front of an enemy but most of my teammates were also in the area
    I’ve noticed how this spawn system impacts domination. In my games it’s seemed like the objectives are kind of thrown in the back seat and become secondary objectives. I really haven’t had a whole match where it’s just a fight for B flag and it’s always around B flag where a few gun fights happen here or there

      yea same. they arent always spawnig directly on your teammate. Its more spawning in near alleyways, behind walls or straight out in the open in thier vecinity. you know that they are near but u cant see red dots or guess thier close spwan point. because they are near; the engagment that would organically happen when traversing the map can happen within milliseconds at times right off spawn. u killed the last guy who came to b flag but, his teammate spawned right to your left near a wall. You will think that u have sometime to cap the flag after all that work but u didnt prepare for the extra guy who didnt exist in that close spot a second ago. You may have even killed him, but the squad spawn allowed him to spawn on his dying teammate in the nick of time.

      na, it will still be the same. In dom, there should be no reason why the enemy spawn in the home flag if nobody is pushing their home flag, but guess what? they do.

      Nope it would be exactly the same Squad Spawns are only good on large multiplayer maps. Because nobody wants to die and have start all the way in the back of the map.
      Then have to keep running all the way back to the middle of the map. Small 3 lane maps don’t need squad spawns at all because the map is smaller so you can get back to fight much sooner.

    Ace, I have appreciated your reasoned and calm critiques during this beta. Your approach has been refreshing compared to some of the more negative videos from other content creators. Even when you disagree with developer decisions, you explain your argument logically while even oftentimes acknowledging the likely reason for the decisions you don't prefer.
    It is clear that the developers are trying to strike the tough balance between hard core and casual players. And the fact that there are more casual than hard core players probably explains why they lean that way more often than not.
    Your helpful research and insight have always been your strong-suit, but your sensible arguments and reasoned tone are very much appreciated in today's volatile social media environment. Kudos.

    Squad spawns were literally so bad in Vanguard they had to remake the entire spawn system but IW saw that and went "nah everything we do is perfect we can't change now" like they usually do

    Infinity Ward needs to stop fighting their customers. At any job wherever, the first thing you learn is not to fight or harass the customers, there is no reason to. What they should want, is to give their customers what they want, to satisfy their customers with their product, and in return, the customer gives the studio what satsfies them, which is money. This is how a transaction works. We are both happy at the end of it. Unbelievable how someone working as a cashier at McDonalds understands this concept better than a multi billion dollar gaming studio like Infinity Ward.

    I feel like it is particularly bad for objective game modes, it seems to ignore the objectives so one guy can get over to the objective then the rest of the team spawn on them it seems

    The funny thing about exploiting spawns and spawn trapping, is that with this new spawn system it felt very easy to get spawn trapped in this game. Because you can get spawn trapped ANYWHERE on the map.
    A number of times you would just spawn in to an enclosed/small space with all of your teammates right there. And the opponents are completely surrounding you. But its just randomly in the middle of the map somewhere
    Spawn system as a whole just feels really bad to constantly be in a group of 2-3-4 teammates

    For me, map control has always been one of those key strategies to good game play, for everyone involved. There's nothing as infuriating as having your team get into a great flow and establishing map control and having it totally thrown out because of random spawns. There's never going to be a good reason you can give me for why my team did their job and won their fights to establish a position and a enemy spawns right on or right behind our established position and wipes us out due to no fault on our part or our gameplay. That's incredible that they would put a spawn system in place that totally negates good game play.

      right on, my exact same thoughts. and like ace explained, lower skilled players also arent helped by random spawns. its sole purpose seems to lower everyones streaks and ratios

    Damn. After seeing everything from the Beta and how IW is “handling” the feedback Idon’t think I can play this game for 2 years straight. I think I might actually not buy the game… Sucks man it’s a few tweaks away from being a top 5 COD just like MW2019 had the same potential too. They just don’t learn from their mistakes or feedback tho

    I agree with you on this. I usually don't like linearity, and I get what they're going for with this spawn system trying to create a more fluid dynamic in combat, but it just isn't working out currently.

      what fluid combat dynamic is it trying to create when the spawn are all over the place including enemies. There are times where you will spawn 20ft from an enemy spawn point not knowing how many spawn there.
      I spawned right next to the enemy spawn with 2 and the only thing between us was a wall leading to a 2v1 situation that wasn't supposed to happen. don't get me started on the middle map spawns, those are great. there is no fluid dynamic what so ever, never was or will be with this spawn logic.

      They are failing horribly at fluidity in combat the flow on every map I’ve played is so wonky and cluttered I see my teammates more than I see enemies and I’m running all around the map actively searching for a enemy and usually when I do I blowed away because they are standing around a corner already pre aimed waiting on me so it’s like the game forces you to play like that campy and ads walking around corners instead running and enjoying the game

    Just played my 1st match on the PC Beta and I can tell it's back because my team played the whole match in the same alleyway leaning around corners

    I might be wrong about this, but aren’t a lot of criticisms surrounding MW2 the exact same ones we had with MW19? Red dots, footsteps, squad spawns, flyover spawn camera. It’s like IW learned next to nothing from the first game

    I really wish IW would listen to the community and just change/fix some of these issues. Even Sledgehammer understood the frustration with the squad spawn system and reverted it back to traditional spawns. Hopefully IW can get passed their stubbornness to do what is right for the game.

    This spawn system actually helps to reduce the fact that a team get’s cornered as its easier to change spawn location!! Which is really good for a player like me

      they already had a quick system for flipping spawns to eliminate spawn raping if majority of one team abandoned their strong side. if u dont have this kind of system all gets randomized and u never learn to read patterns.

    This spawn system is what stopped me playing after only 2 hours with the beta. Too many games where I just keep spawning in the same spot with enemies around me and unable to do anything as the whole enemy team was camped in power positions preventing us from moving. And this happened in about 3-4 matches in a row

    It is squad spawns and I do not like it either becasue it causes too many spawn flips in Domination. Like to many other things they try to generalize rules and different modes need different rules it can ot be that hard. TDM squad spawn fine. objective modes you need endzones with good outlets for spawn trap prevention. You seem to never be able to set up 2 flags because 1 person pushes.

    Obviously this is to hinder the spawn killing and to get you back in action faster which should be mentioned. But it does suck when you’re running a flank and now half the team spawns on you so there’s a give and take with it

    I also feel they should have both spawn systems, you start with a regular side spawn and if the enemy are in those sections maybe a squad spawn is then put in place until sides can be established again either by flipping or gaining control of your side

    Yeah I totally agree with you. I was just in a game and I was wondering what was going on. Why I kept spawning in a middle of a gun fight. It makes really hard to flank your Enemies. They need to fix that. Thank you for the info

    The thing that makes it hard for me is the lack of consistency. When I respawn, I can’t learn from my previous route through the map, because I’m in a brand new corner with no idea where I am. This isn’t a problem when you’re 200 hours in and know every map in and out, but especially in a new game, it’s *impossible* to learn the frontlines of these maps because there isn’t one :(

    It's the most annoying thing as a flanker/mindless rusher to be running into what seemed like a potential enemy position, just for your teamates to spawn on you.

    I think that’s why maps had more safe spaces in MW2019 think about it. With the spawn locations constantly moving I would bet you a thousand IW noticed the same issues you listed and tried adding zones to the map so that they can essentially create a spawn system that works similarly to the traditional system for map flow but also rotates… idk but to me that does sound plausible.

      To me it would explain why 2019’s maps lacked any real shape and form. Normal maps with this spawn system would probably throw you in the middle of gunfire. So the design had to be a bit more formless to account for this randomized system of spawning.

    The spawn system from 2019 was THE reason I stopped playing. Having someone spawn back into a room after clearing it and shooting me in the back afterwards is extremely frustrating. So is, to a lesser extent, trying to sneak behind the enemy team then having a teammate spawn on be guns blazing and having half the enemy team focus on us.
    On the other hand, successfully flanking the enemy team and getting a pentakill in Cold War was extremely satisfying. Even when I was on the end of the enemy locking down our spawn, at least there was agency in trying to jump shot the pre-aimed enemy, or trying to figure out an other way, somehow slip past and get the jump on them.

    Agreed, flow is not good with current spawn system. Like the old way of trying to hold down or take another teams spawn area. Now you just run around the map like a headless chicken

    People don’t seem to realize that squad spawns is only going to make it easier for players with strong game sense to spawn trap even easier. I get that the point is to mitigate spawn trapping, but if you go up against a good team you’re going to end up in an even worse spawn trap on respawns.

    I agree that this system is ultimately detrimental to the overall flow of the game. Mainly the inability to flank successfully. Rotations seam rough and darn near impossible in certain situations. Hopefully it will improve overtime.

    I definitely agree with you. Specially the flanking "lone wolf" play style is out the window now. In contrary though, one of the most frustrating things is getting spawn trapped by a full squad. But will this now be another reason for squads not to move and stay stationary? So they can somewhat control the spawns and avoid the randomness by the whole squad just staying in one side of the map? If it's exploitable... It will happen.

    Reminds me of when I spawned and some guy was already pre-aiming where it was going to be at and then instantly dying milliseconds after spawning. I couldn’t even see him when he was right in front of me.

      yup, the spawns are all over the place, you find a spawn point in a place where there is not much traffic and you get free kills. ask me how I know.

    I have what I know is a hot take, but I prefer squad spawns, I feel like it speeds the game up, because often times I'd see matches end up becoming "attackers vs defenders" where 1 team is defending their side of the map while the other team pushes it until spawns flip and then the roles reverse, and imo not a fun experience, squad spawns make the match much more dynamic, neither team has a "safe zone" and I like that, I feel like it speeds up the flow of the match having you basically dropped right back into the action
    does this system take getting used to? absolutely, but I personally prefer how it shakes up the gameplay, you mentioned that false sense of security, I like that, I always found it boring having to run back into the fight after I spawn, in a way that sense of safety after I spawn
    I think a very big reason I prefer this spawn system is my absolute despise of spawn controlling, I'm of the opinion that spawn control is a bad thing in COD, my spawn isn't something I want my enemies in control of, and yes it is a skill, but I believe the strength of spawn controlling (granted this varies by game) heavily outweighs the skill needed to do it
    I personally hope IW sticks to squad spawns, and my biggest reason for that is it gives IWs games their own flow, 1 griped I've always had with the COD community (not pointed at you necessarily) is that they complain the games are to similar but then complain when things change
    I think it would be cool to see each COD dev have their own flow, IW has squad spawns and no gunshots on the mini map, treyarch has the more classic spawn and mini map, and sledgehammer....well it'd be nice for them to just make a good COD
    and if you personally prefer the old spawn and mini map then you have treyarchs games, where as us who prefer MWII style of gameplay have IWs games (as to why I like the mini map of MWII, well my main playstyle is flanking and it makes that style stronger)

    While playing Domination in the MWII Beta I have had the game spawn me next to or directly behind a teammate who is actively in a firefight, causing me to die instantly without even being able to move. I can understand this sort of thing happening in small maps like Shipment, but it makes for an incredibly frustrating experience on these larger maps in the Beta.

    I could tell immediately that squad spawns were back. Had two players that were AFK in Dom on Farm 18. They went AFK on the right flank around the corner from C. I spawned there 7 times in a row along with the rest of my team as 4 enemies were engaging and battling over C. There was another enemy inside the shoothouse at B, and the last enemy was on the roof on the A side spawn. Even after me and another guy killed the guy on the roof to push out and cap A, it still spawned us in the middle around the corner from C. I pushed out again, took B, then went back to defend A, then flanked around to attack C and died, and it still spawned me around the corner at C despite the whole enemy team being there. Eventually the two AFKs were kicked, and as soon as that happened, it spawned us at A. It was ridiculous that the squad spawns refused to let us out. Both teams were spawning so close to each other you can hear the audio queue of enemies spawning in. It was a spawn trap despite both teams having open flanks. 75% of the map wasn't being used.

    we need traditional spawns like older cods because certain modes that have you holding zones become useless if you don’t have a home spawn and your just constantly capping other flags it completely messes with the flow of maps and modes

    Once I figured out that Squad Spawning was happening, I made gameplay adjustments and enjoy it much better. Now on Domination, you can no longer just face one direction ADS, meanwhile you have that one teammate deep in the enemy spawn....shooting everyone in the back on respawn. It. essentially eliminates spawn trapping. I like this unpredictability aspect of the game. You really get to see what players gun game is really about. The Perk System does suck tho!!!

    Every video from every RUclipsr keeps telling me this game has this problem but we just have to deal with it. Yeah the game is fun, but the devs don't give a crap about what we think. Why in the world would I buy this game? It doesn't make sense to allow a company to say the hell with what you think, you have to play this or you're not playing anything at all. Being honest we shouldn't buy this game and let them know if you're not going to listen to us you're not getting our money. Biggest problem is you can't tell thousands and thousands of people to just not buy this game. I've been having a blast playing it, but just saying you have to deal with it is bull. I don't have to deal with it, I don't have to buy it.

    The spawn system is so wack, whenever i take a building sometimes theres sometimes that 1 enemy in a corner and ive seen 1-3 enemies spawn right beside me and kill me so trying to figure out the spawn is kind of RNG in a way, and the perk system is so terrible, early game UAV's promote heavy camping because no1 has ghost so no1 wants to be surprised

    I like the spawns, I hate dying and having to go far from the action. With that being said, it’s a new game and it seems allot of players want an identical game to mw 19 and Warzone but with new maps lol.

    Instead of looking to lock down power positions, I've mostly taken to staying within sightline of my teammates, at least for TDM. Gives enemies someone else to shoot at first

    Several times I would randomly spawn next to an enemy. This could hurt and help me. I’ve spawned next to someone who was holding down a lane, I randomly spawn right next to him and get a free flank kill basically.

      @@bradenmchenry995 ur comparing free for all with no teammates to a teammate respawn gammode. they arent spawnig directly on your teammate. Its more spawning in near alleyways, behind walls or straight out in the open in thier vecinity. you know that they are near but u cant see red dots or guess thier close spwan point. because they are near; the engagment that would organically happen when traversing the map can happen within milliseconds at times right off spawn. u killed the last guy who came to b flag but, his teammate spawned right to your left near a wall. You will think that u have sometime to cap the flag after all that work but u didnt prepare for the extra guy who didnt exist in that close spot a second ago. You may have even killed him, but the squad spawn allowed him to spawn on his dying teammate in the nick of time.

    SPAWNS COMBINE WITH LACK OF RED DOTS WHEN ENIMIES FIRE MAKES IT EVEN WORSE. IF YOU COULD SEE ENEMY GUNFIRE ON MINI MAP IT MAY HELP IN UNDERSTANDING WHERE ENEMIES MAY BE SPAWNING AND PUSHING. AT LEAST THEY SHOULD TRY THAT

    Getting spawn trapped is one of the most negative experiences for bad players like myself. I feel like squad spawns prevent that large negative and spread out the bad experience throughout the game. So overall gameplay experience is slightly worse but you don’t end up ragequitting while spawn trapped. I would prefer traditional spawns though

    The recent spawning system has been a big reason why I haven't bought a cod game in 3 years. I hate that the design of the game is favoring everyone being able to get free kills, instead of rewarding players that took the time to learn the maps and the ins and outs of the game like in previous titles

    I was spawned next to a teammate who was being killed. By time I dropped in he was dead and I was next. Easy double kill for the enemy.

    I must be one of the only people who believes game developers shouldn’t make changes based on community crying. We went from boots on ground then jet packs only to have people cry about wanting to go back to boots on ground. This community will never not find something to cry and bitch about. Don’t like how they made it then don’t play it but people need to stop acting like they never listen at all. Well keep on crying about how you want them to change the game to please yourself. All people do everyday is cry and bitch. SMH what a joke.

      Making changes based on community feedback is usually a positive occurrence. But this community never knows what it wants and will complain even when they get what they want. (If they ever figure out what that is.) In fact that's the case for a lot of these long-running franchises.

    Does anyone actually know what the catalyst was for these core gameplay mechanics being change with MW2019? I don’t remember. All I remember was early on in that game there was no mini map and spawns were goofy and then I guess I went brainless on shipment and just accepted how it was. But who WANTED these things?

      These decisions were made to reduce skill gap so lower skilled players dont quit to retain a high playerbase and the spawns are becuase of ground war i think.

    Ace, how would you feel about protected spawns (designated areas where the enemy can't enter) like Battlefield, and I think what ground war had in MW2019? With how every cod game has bad spawns, I've thought about it before. The main problem being it would be hard to motivate teams to leave spawn in TDM if the enemy can't enter.
