Yes! It almost feels like SEGA actually read my comments in various threads and spoke to me directly. I'm absolutely buzzing, still haven't come down from that VF Direct presentation.
what I love about Virtua Fighter is that it's so grounded. Other than Dural, everyone is human. No fireballs, no shadow-jitsu. They're actually fighting in a real tournament, if you step out. you lose.

@@Jandro1083 I know EXACTLY what three moves of his you're subtly talking about too. They require spot on execution or they won't come out. Great character to play if you've put in the training.
I love how VF has a lot of "realism" or is very faithful to representing these fighting styles. Or it gives you a sort of hyperidealized version of fighting styles. And then its not afraid to have icons of wiggling joysticks. Its not afraid of being an arcade or video game.
@@fuu6490 yessir! It's pure hands and VF has a good understanding of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it.". The mechanics are a solid mix of offensive and defensive that lets you play any character you like freely your way. I'm excited about what fighting styles will make their debut in VF6
So new Virtua Fighter. I am hype. I want you to be hype too. I know a lot of yall know the name, maybe know some basics about the franchise but in this video let me give you an idea of what VF is all about as a competitive fighting game. What makes it different from everything else you have seen and heard of all the years. Its been almost 20 years since the last numbered title so a little bit of catching you up to speed ain't gonna hurt right? Basically VF is great and you need to be a soldier in Sega's army for the grand new reconquest to come!
Small note. You can KINDA make backdash somewhat safe if you cancel into a evade. But you are susceptible to far reaching full circular mids and lows, or even the opponent dashing up and throwing.
Everyone here looking for a new look, a new game, a new combo, a good fight it’s all meaningless Jesús it’s the meaning of life and real happiness and hope.. you are just wasting your lifes on these games
I never played VF before, but now i’m hyped. I like SF6 and Tekken 8 too, but i got burnt out because of the new mechanics they introduced. I just want to throw hands without supers that take vast majority of our health because we pushed a single button when the opponent moved his toe and didn’t block for 0.1 second. Well, this is mostly a Tekken issue with the insane heat and rage art damage, SF supers are not nearly as bad, but still.
I had too many fun summers growing up playing this series with my dad, uncle and cousins. Seeing a new VF in development alongside Fatal Fury COTW is the gift that keeps on giving. Us old heads (37) weren't forgotten. Lol
@@TehStylishone It'd be nice. I have never really worked with sega before. I hope they realize that I fly the flag higher and harder than anyone else for VF
I have not played VF since I was a kid mashing buttons on VF3 in the arcade. I was always wary of trying to learn the series after putting so much time into Tekken and Street fighter as an adult, so thank you for making this video! Really breaks down the intimidating barrier to entry this series always seemed to have. I genuinely want to get into the older ones now in anticipation of the new installment.

I hope to see Jeffrey achieve his goal. My brothers name is Jeffrey and he only ever played Mortal Kombat with me. But that's about to change! Thanks @rooflemonger for keeping the updates on VF. You are the only one.
When virtua fighter five came out on 360, I remember thinking it looked so amazing. Just water effects, skin and character models. Graphics are always improving in quantum leaps. There's stuff from when the the Xbox one first came out that looks completely different from a game released two or three years later. Anyways, VF Five still looks amazing.
VF5FS, also for 360, is just a smidge better. Though, DLC locks a certain mode behind a smidge of a paywall, but if you have a madern Xbox (a One or a Series), you can still grab it. VF5US (the game shown in the video), is only on PS4 and PS5, and it's... ...arguably, outside of the UI changes, pretty much the same thing. That and also VF5FS is also found in pretty much every current Yakuza game (6-onward, yes, even Judgement.) So it's quite easy to get at the game. for the aforementioned Yakuza games, you just have to reach the point where you have access to the arcade. (also a certain trainer can be used to pretty much play the base 360 version of VF5FS, sans online and DLC) Hells, SEGA Still have the big elaborate how to play video tutorials still on YT for VF5FS. Making it that bit easier to learn. And if you want VF with a bit more... "Pizzaz", there's Dead or Alive by Tecmo-Koei for that. (same 3-button system, attacks have chains, and the guard button can be used for "Holds" which counter attacks.) Hells, in the 5th game of the series, there's even Virtua Fighter characters as guest characters! (Akira, Sarah, Pai-chan, and Jacky.) But yeah, Virtua Fighter has quite the legacy to it.
One thing I've always loved about Virtua Fighter, even more so than its stepchild, DOA, is the simple and intuitive movement. Maneuvering the stage feels so natural in VF. It's not the slog that Tekken feels like. It's that simple stuff that makes learning the game so much nicer. And this game is just as cinematic as every other 3D fighter out there without needing all the extrenuous bells and whistles.
Tekken doesn't have true 3D movement. VF and games that are more inspired by it like DOA, Soul Calibur, Tobal and Kakuto Chojin have a more natural movement system since you can actually move 360 degrees without sidestepping.
@@ThrashMetalWolf666 That honestly never occurred to me. I just figured 3D game should equal 3D movement. Whenever I play Tekken, I feel like I'm fighting its mechanics more than I'm fighting the other guy.
After all of these years of playing VF5, I am still learning new things about the system. I didn't know that throws can be broken by blocking, then holding a direction. That is so cool!
As somebody who's aware of Virtua Fighter but never actually looked at the gameplay, from a watchability standpoint this looks way more fun than Tekken.
VF2 on the Sega Saturn was waaaaaaaay ahead of its time! Grounded combat, no powerups or flashy effects made it so realistic. And the 60 FPS at that time was mind blowing! But my favorite has to be DOA especially DOA5 featuring some of the VF characters and the ever so captivating Mai Shiranui from the KOF series. ❤
One thing I'm curious about is what they'll do with the aesthetic. So, RGG Studio is working on it, so maybe it's just gonna have Yakuza's photorealistic art style, but one thing I've noticed in recent times is that, whether due to people looking at ASW's output or just people wanting to one-up themselves, all the new big fighting games are trying real hard to have a distinctive aesthetic that nails what they want their game to be "about." Like Guilty Gear of course is going in hard on ASW's patented anime in 3D witchcraft, Capcom finally decided to make Street Fighter feel more like Fighting In The Streets with the paint flourishes and soundtrack, City of the Wolves is going in with a bright comic book aesthetic (possibly to enforce a more American feel for the mean streets of Southtown?), Tekken 8 keeps up with those character-specific hitsparks to give everyone a definitive This Is Who Hit You thing, etc. What, if anything, would they do to have people look at VF6 and think immediately "Oh, yeah, this is Virtua Fighter," if you get what I mean? It'd be interesting if they punctuated counterhits by having wireframes show up like this is a simulation and it just can't handle how awesome you are in that moment, or maybe they would keep on with their understated style now because being grounded and unassumingly elegant really is Virtua Fighter. Regardless, I'm looking forward to it.
Personally I’d want them to just stay true to the straight forward competitive martial arts vibe the series has always gone for. That said, I get that it might not be the most marketable, so I also think an old school Hong Kong martial arts movie presentation could work as well (film grain, title cards, sound effects, camera angles, and other such things taken from those movies). If Dead or Alive was still an active series, I might’ve said that’s a better fit for that series, but since it’s more dead than alive nowadays, I’d say it could work as a fresh coat of paint for VF instead, and allow it to still keep a bit of that competitive martial arts presentation, just with a bit more flair. If Yu Suzuki was still heading the series, it actually feels like something he’d do, so if any change were to happen I think this is one that’s make sense while still feeling like VF.
VF best art style was in the VF4 era and then VF5, I actually think these two games look better than VF5US/Esport, I'm not dissing the Yakuza games, but I hope VF6 is not that art style, I would love if they could some how translate VF Remix promotional art into 3D.
I'm hoping for classic "SEGA aesthetics" if that makes sense. The trailer of the new VF5 version kinda had vibes like that. Daytona music, tropical palm tree vibes, etc. It's what Sega games were known for back in the day. I think that vibe could work and it would certainly give the game an identity of its own when compared to other fighters.
I felt like I learned the essentials of 3D fighting games thanks to VF4's tutorial. No other game in PS2 came remotely close to both the tutorial and the unique systems of the game. The whole side step attack into grab / defense was mindblowing. General safe vs unsafe moves and use crouch punch to interrupt the enemy attack could be applied to other games too. It felt genius.
I’m gonna summarize VF’s spirit with a Paulo Coelho quote: “Elegance is achieved when all that is superfluous has been discarded and the human being discovers simplicity and concentration: the simpler and more sober the posture, the more beautiful it will be.”
Never played it but damn am I sold. I love Tekken and Street Fighter but I really love the concept of just two fighters going at it. Stages being the main player but not an explosive wall that can go off because I got guard broken sounds so good damn fun. The Lows, throws and evasion look like a better triangle for me. Damn this looks good
The ring out is the best comeback mechanic I've seen in a fighting game. It's dangerous to use, can be used against you and your opponent can actively do something about it. If they refuse to come near the edge with a life lead, you don't get to use it. It is the most elegant comeback mechanic I've seen
What i love about vf is how each of its characters is completely unique gameplan & mechanics wise like take shun di, lei fei and vanessa for example, they all use stances, but shun's gameplan is much more about getting those drinks in, while lei fei is about flowing from one into the other while mixing you up to hell (kinda like lei wulong), while vanessa is about switching back and forth from aggression and defense
its all it takes. Lots of the tekken 8 changes were to make it more like vf, like tracking throws and steps being better. That said neither are as good as VF still.
I played the first Virtua Fighter on a cabinet at a local pizza joint back over 20+ years ago now when I was just a kid. I never had any idea what the hell was going on but at the time it was crazy how impressive the 3d models were. After getting super deep into fighting games with DBFZ and Strive, I'm really excited to come back to this franchise
Bro i cant tell you how excited i am. VF was one of the first fighting games i actually became obsessed with. And the games only seemed to get better with time. Crossing my fingers for Vanessa and El Blaze main roster
Thanks for making this video! As a long time fan of the series and someone always trying to think of the best way to explain Virtua Fighter to someone new to the series, what do I think Virtua Fighter is all about? Virtua Fighter is a speed guessing game. A round on average takes 20 seconds, but can end as quickly as 5 seconds! All characters in the game share a subset of moves that is fundamental for play, but because of the large move set it allows players to express themselves differently from other players. Not just by playing different characters, but playing the same character differently. Also I think you can successfully play the game with a very defensive mindset...maybe a better way to say it...playing an active defense versus a passive defense.
I would argue Dead or Alive is a lot more influenced and similar to Virtua Fighter than Tekken. DOA has almost the same button layout, which is how they were able to incoperate VF characters in DOA.
Virtua Fighter is probably the most “grounded” fighting game in terms of its characters. Sure you have Dural whose a robot, but for the most part it’s just “muay thai guy” or “jeet kune do guy” I hope VF6 continues that, although I do think Sega will try and tap into the craziness that Tekken has and add like “just a penguin” or something. And any guest character (which you all KNOW will happen) will probably be pretty wild too, whether it’s knife wielding Mad Dog Goro Majima, Devil Gene infused Kazuya Mishima or Power Dunking Terry Bogard… When they do a guest I hope it’s someone decently normal like Heihachi or Ryo Hazuki or Kiryu (even if that last one is unlikely)
All your videos have been successfully in getting me excited for VF’s comeback! I’ve never played VF before, but your content has me pumped for the next game.
I'm a DOA preacher at heart, but VF is the other 3D fighter I've been wanting to come back. Funnily enough the announcement came out the day after I hopped back on to learn a new character, almost like it was fated. Excited to see how VF6 turns out 😌
Yeah: 1. DOA, 2. Tekken and 3. VF (all 3 games are good, but have different strengths and weaknesses. Tekken has the best system that every button is a limb, and interesting characters and lore. but juggling and that the possibility that you cant do anything against your opponent and just have to look your character got juggled around (or kings chain throws) and get destroyed etc (unfair gameplay) makes it bad. VF is grounded and in a way the most impressive in realism fighting but in my opinion some mechanics like Guarding with button is outdated. The Tekken approach is kind of better. And sadly VF has no real content and offers only the basic fighting experience (no story etc) And also some character designs are really cool or unique but other ones are a bit too boring or not so great. DOA on the other hand brings all the good things together. Its technically fair, easy (you dont have to main a character because you can easily play everyone) was since DOA2 the most advanced and most impressive game (where tekken sometimes still lacks behind) and also have done a good job with presenting the story etc…The only downside maybe is that its the one less complex and less competitive game (because Tekkens 4button system is more unipue and most addicting) i would say DOA is the perfect game for casual players. But overall DOA has the most strengths and the less weaknesses what makes it number one.
I remember playing Virtua fighter in an arcade and I was mind blown by the 3d graphic and the realism they tried to make back in the days it was something new and now they still keep make us happy.
Loved this video. I've hardly played Virtua Fighter over the years but I knew there was something about it that stood out. Thought it was just the characters and the martial arts they used. Now my eyes have been opened.
Virtua Fighter is simply the TRUE king of 3D fighting games. Nothing more nothing less. Basically the appeal is: Seemingly ordinary martial artists with extraordinary fluid techniques duking it out!
@@THR33_Dizzle Either guard or move. Make a decision instead of relying on the game to hold your hand and block for you while moving (or while not even holding the controller, good lord).
@spiffythealien guarding while moving isn't hand holding, it's fckn fighting, maybe it was originally like that because of hardware limitations, but either way, Sega needs to catch up
@@THR33_Dizzleno they don't "need to catch up", their system is way more elegant and cleaner, and incentives an aggressive gameplay WITHOUT resourcing on busted moves, meters or supers, nor literal glitches (kbd)
@Radec_G kbd is emergent gameplay, saying it's a glitch is outdated, just like virtua fighter, I didn't mean catch up with only gimmicks, catch up with movement, sound design, story, character design, net code, etc. Now I'm not saying ANY game is perfect, but VF is falling further and further behind with how little they've released
The fact that Virtua Fighter is nothing like Tekken is why I like it. Never been a fan of Tekken. I see why other people like it, It's just not for me.
Honestly if Tekken 8 didn't have the heat system at all, it's fighting flow in neuch would be would be very similar to Virtua fighter. A lot of up close battles. It's just that in T8 when you get launch you corner carry and activate heat then mix so it could be over fast haha but slower game before I think is similar
And it’s the reason why I can’t get into VF lol. I’m super happy for VF fans though, finally getting a much deserved new entry and a seat at the table during this current gen of fighting games. Competition is best and really hope it helps make the 3D fighting game genre even better.
I’m sorry to inform you, but VF has probably the biggest disparity between high and low level of any fighting game series. It’s why it got its reputation as being the most complex fighting game out there. Not because it’s actually complex (it’s incredibly straightforward and easy to pick up, especially in its inputs), but the almost infinite amount unique situations and matchup specific interactions that are possible means it’s Knowledge Check: The Game, and so veteran players will always outplay a beginner.
@@CrossfacePanda I disagree. VF revolves around its system more than most other fighters. Arguably, its strongest inputs are shared amongst all characters: P, 2P, 6P, G, and throw. If you know the triangles like attack > throw > guard > attack > etc., you know most of the game. If you know that P is +2 on block, then 6P or throw to follow, you know the fundamental neutral and can deduce the rest regardless of what character you choose and who you're fighting against. Anything character-specific has more to do with frames and is not as important as understanding the flow above. And even then, there are only several recovery frames to remember: safe, throw-punishable, P-punishable, and launch-punishable. And those are universal too. Characters are more often differentiated by their access to the system, rather than unique interactions between characters. For example, Akira has no full circulars; Eileen has weak throws; Kage has strong ring out potential; etc. The only character-specific info that might be important to a beginner are juggles. But even those are more generally bucketed into 3 weight classes (save for Taka who exists in his own weight class) and foot stances can be ignored for a while.
Shame when most people only know tekken when virtua fighter comes way before it. 90s was a time where 3D fighting went really hard and many other titles that was not well known , battle arena toshiden, last bronx
VF sidestep mechanics did it the right way, Tekken sidesteps are really frustrating indeed with how it might or might not sidestep depending on character used, framedata and which move you end up trying to sidestep that has different degrees of tracking.
BREAKING: Virtua Fighter 5 is getting an updated version that will be on console & pc, 4k graphics, rollback netcode, and updated balance. Learn more here: ruclips.net/video/DGyvU2Z-4BM/видео.html
That's only partially good news to me, for the longest I have been waiting for a Virtua Fighter collection on PC with arcade perfect ports of the the four original games. To me, that would have made more sense, particularly with introducing the newer generations to the game. We still don't have a perfect port of Virtua Fighter 3 or TB anywhere except Japan. That's ridiculous of Sega. Yet another Virtua Fighter 5 release...........
@@Rooflemonger I hope they actually make it match the look of the original. That Dragon Engine is what I wanted but it wasn't what I thought. Plus they redesigned the faces when they should have made it look like the CGI models instead.
Great job showing what makes VF different from the rest, and let's it stand the test of time. Also glad to see my boy Shun Di front and center at the beginning of the video.
For all those of you born post 1990 who aren't too familiar with Virtua Fighter, you missed out ROYALLY on these games dropping for the first time, moreso I'm referring to the first three in the series. What you have to understand is, SEGA at this time had access to NASA esque technology nobody else did, not even in the PC space, so when these games dropped, they were absolutely groundbreaking. Never before had we seen tech at this level and you just knew you were going to be years away from seeing anything remotely as good in your home. This was peak Sega for me, at one point I was almost living in arcades, every spare moment I got I headed to ones which I knew had the Sega goodness. Even if you look at Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown now, it has aged only a little bit visually, it's not exactly looking blown out of the water old, it's still holding up pretty well, which is testament to Sega's work. The game is 20 years old, it has no right still looking that good now. What is crazy to me, is that there's been 8 Tekkens and only 5 Virtua Fighters, when Virtua Fighter came first and hasn't been produced again in 20 years. If Sega go back to their roots and deliver a similar level of technological advancement with VF6, they could literally have a fighting game that can't be surpassed for at least another 3-4 years and only by Sega themselves. It's all on them, but I'm not sure they have the same artists and creative minds there anymore.
Honestly we need another 3D fighter. Tekken has become a weird amalgamated chimeric beast at this point. Feels like Dead or Alive title without a balanced triangle Hold system to keep the hyperaggressive long combos in check.
sega is far from the giant they were back then. probably hard for them to justify a new VF game until now, they were probably waiting for the fgc to pop back off again like it is now. can't blame em really. and you're 100% right about VF being the peak when it came out in arcades, my jaw hit the floor first time my arcade got a cabinet. i remember freaking out the first time i changed views when i got virua racing on the genesis lol.
@@davidscott9257 Yeah that's the worry, as I said. AM2/AM3 as we knew it gone a long time ago. That Genesis Virtua Racing was a really good conversion for what it was, but VF2 you just knew wasn't going to be possible in the home for a while, a bridge too far.
When I first saw VF 3 (i think) in '96 i was like WHOOOOA! I wish the it still looked that way to me. I hope 6 does. But those were the days in arcades, for sure, man.
@@chillbro2275 Virtua Fighter 3 is my all time favourite one, I still get goosebumps playing it now, although the gameplay hasn't aged well at all compared to the latter ones now, so difficult to enjoy as a fighter when you're trying things that wasn't there yet! Hasn't aged as well visually, but actually, it still looks respectable, particularly when you look at the graphical features like the eye tracking. It was geekgasm central back then, absolutely ridiculous looking, I didn't think Virtua Fighter 2 was going to be topped for a LONG TIME, but...... Still also has one of the best in-game soundtracks of all time. VF perfection as an overall package, but VF5 FS was the best technically from a gameplay standpoint, just fell short in the presentation and music department for me.
Yoo Roofle thanks for this vid! Now that I've been dabbling in multiple fighting games, my main question with each fighting game is "what makes it feel unique?" and this did such a great job explaining that. Damn, I'm actually quite excited to try VF now!
VF is closer in gameplay to both Soul Calibur and Dead or Alive due to the three button system. They all feel fluid too. Tekken all due respect for it feels janky by comparison to all 3.
This is legitimately my favorite fighting game. Thanks for the video, Homie. I hope more people get into fighting games, due ro VF, if this one comes back pure.
Dead Or Alive is a closer comparison to Virtua Fighter. It also helps that some VF characters were guest fighters in DOA games. Also, remember when VF had 4 buttons?
got into fighting games this summer, appreciate the VF rundown! the mechanics actually sound real fun and i'll definitely give the new game a try once it comes out
Virtua fighter is a franchise I've never really played, but I am excited for the new one. The ring out mechanic is my favorite thing about 3D fighters, and this game seems to make a really cool use of that. But the most important part is that this may be a landmark in the return of the 3D fighters to the spotlight. It's nice to have Tekken being as big as it is, but we need more games like this, and if they won't give us a new Soul Calibur then I am happy for it to be VF.
This unlocked a core memory. Just checked my pile of old PS3 games and sure enough I still have my copy of Virtual Fighter 5. I remember putting countless hours into Vanessa and her in-game representation of Vale Tudo was so believable that I took a few lessons IRL. Really hope the new VF is on Steam!
I can't wait to return to this series. Haven't gotten to play one of these since VF2. All the experience I have with modern VF is watching Tricky Eileen play VF5. BTW, politely requesting some kind of team up between you and her y'all are *literally* the only 2 people I know who are talking about this news.
The lack of flashy bullshit is definitely a positive for me. I used to be a big Tekken fan since Tekken 2, but they are slowly becoming an over-the-top anime fighter now. I dropped T8 after a couple of weeks because to me it wasn't fun anymore. The short footage of VF6 really makes me feel hopeful about this game.
Something I always liked about Virtua Fighter is how strong mechanical character identity is. Very character has something that's very uniquely "theirs". Jean having only when blocked effects, Taka being un-jugglable, Brad's fast and furious strings, Kage's moon throw that I've seen get ring outs on tall fence stages etc. The general, "Always works" part like the sidestep system prevents the worst of tekken's died from backdraft type stuff. I've always found the button more logical as well. Kick with all your body weight? Always K+G. Body check or elbow type thing? P+K. Stance related? P+K+G. It's pretty consistent. More intuitive then tekken's limbs to me. Tekken might tell me what button a move is if I squint, but VF tends to tell me more what it's FOR. Less useless moves too.
Roof, you bringing up how "actually this game's fairly easy to get into" is honestly pretty true lol even back in say, Final Showdown. Around the time of its console release I somehow learned how to do things real fast because VF's honestly intuitive enough that it's pretty damn pick-up-and-play. Also copious use of low jab. We all went through there. Also hell yeah lol the Asuka Mocap mention
I sent your video into a local friend group discord so I can convince my friends to play VF5 with me because I'm so hype for a new game. I can't believe it's been so long since we had an entry.
> 08:45 If anything, supers and ultimates are boring. They're a detraction from full control, and consist mostly of a short cutscene you activate, which damages the opponent. I wish neither Tekken nor Soul Calibur had ever implemented those
Looking forward to play VF again! Big fan from the first game. Played in the arcades on my lunch break. I hope to see more counter moves and more fighters.
There’s so many reasons why I love VF, but my absolute favourite reason is how much milage and depth they get out of just 3 buttons. Punch, Kick, Block. That’s all you need in different combinations for an immensly deep and diverse system and roster. Makes it quick to pick up and understand the basics, but with infinite room to learn and explore. And all the tools are available at all times, since the only resource to manage is your health (unless you play Shun Di). It’s imo both the most brilliant and elegant system a fighting game has ever had.
Block buttons blow, why is tekken the only one that figured that out? Blocking while moving is a major part of actual fighting and games are just like, "nah" lol
@@THR33_Dizzle I disagree. The block button in 3D fighters is actually cool. Especially when it can be used to cancel certain actions or strings for the stance characters.
@@THR33_Dizzle You don't need to but can. The block button can also be use to cancel attacks, and strings into stances and said block button can be used to transition one stance into another.
The throws and throw breaks in VF are a lot more intuitive since where your position is helps clue you in on which direction the opponent wants to throw you and the input direction will match that. On top if that, sidestepping in VF feels much more responsive, gives much better feedback on success since you can really hear it, the same way you get feedback on counterhits in most FGs these days. I can’t tell you how many times trying to play Tekken like it's VF has screwed me up, like being thriwn out of an attack. VF just has a much more solid foundation, the rules are followed much more strictly so there is so fewer character specific knowledge checks. Even if you're unfamiliar, if you just know the rules you can do well.
Virtua Fighter 6 and Now Fatal Fury COTW on the horizon?! Aw man we eating good next year. VF is pure martial arts and pure hands. I like Tekken too, but VF always stayed to the same thing that put it on the map.
The reason I got into Virtua Fighter is because of your videos! I used to prefer tekken but once you learn how to play it Virtua Fighter is way more fun! At least it is to me. Can’t wait to see what comes next in Virtua Fighter 6

I love how VF has a lot of "realism" or is very faithful to representing these fighting styles. Or it gives you a sort of hyperidealized version of fighting styles. And then its not afraid to have icons of wiggling joysticks. Its not afraid of being an arcade or video game.
Thank you for having good tastes!
You perfectly described it.
Thats what I love in VF. All the styles feel so real and the animations are great. I hope it stays and we not get more generic shit like tekken has.
No Super, No Bar, No Powerup or anything else... Just pure strike & grapple like classic golden age of fighting game
That is why I love it so much. Every win and lost feels like your fault instead of the opponent taking advantage of a specific game mechanic.

I never played VF.... I cant wait to go through them.
Everyone here looking for a new look, a new game, a new combo, a good fight it’s all meaningless
Jesús it’s the meaning of life and real happiness and hope.. you are just wasting your lifes on these games
Tekken also have guard break, power crush, counter grabs and a lot of other stuff . So Tekken is about all in one
I like Virtua Fighter very much. I hope you will like it too 👴
It's frustrating but I can't stay away 😭
I had too many fun summers growing up playing this series with my dad, uncle and cousins. Seeing a new VF in development alongside Fatal Fury COTW is the gift that keeps on giving. Us old heads (37) weren't forgotten. Lol

(also a certain trainer can be used to pretty much play the base 360 version of VF5FS, sans online and DLC)
Hells, SEGA Still have the big elaborate how to play video tutorials still on YT for VF5FS.
(Akira, Sarah, Pai-chan, and Jacky.)
But yeah, Virtua Fighter has quite the legacy to it.
That is so cool!
the throw system of final showdown is the best of any 3d fighter by a mile.
High level Virtua Fighter is unlike anything else in the FGC. Purely spectacular.

VF's dopamine hits like no other
Oh yeah..
One thing I'm curious about is what they'll do with the aesthetic.
So, RGG Studio is working on it, so maybe it's just gonna have Yakuza's photorealistic art style, but one thing I've noticed in recent times is that, whether due to people looking at ASW's output or just people wanting to one-up themselves, all the new big fighting games are trying real hard to have a distinctive aesthetic that nails what they want their game to be "about."
Like Guilty Gear of course is going in hard on ASW's patented anime in 3D witchcraft, Capcom finally decided to make Street Fighter feel more like Fighting In The Streets with the paint flourishes and soundtrack, City of the Wolves is going in with a bright comic book aesthetic (possibly to enforce a more American feel for the mean streets of Southtown?), Tekken 8 keeps up with those character-specific hitsparks to give everyone a definitive This Is Who Hit You thing, etc.
For me. They have to improve the animations. They need to make it cooler and more reactive specific to the environment and the hits.
VF best art style was in the VF4 era and then VF5, I actually think these two games look better than VF5US/Esport, I'm not dissing the Yakuza games, but I hope VF6 is not that art style, I would love if they could some how translate VF Remix promotional art into 3D.
@@CrossfacePanda It would be cool if a counter hit had the sweat on the opponent explode off from how hard the hit was, like in real life
I'm hoping for classic "SEGA aesthetics" if that makes sense.
I think people forget just how King VF4 Evolution was back on PS2. EVERYONE played it.
I’m gonna summarize VF’s spirit with a Paulo Coelho quote:
“Elegance is achieved when all that is superfluous has been discarded and the human being discovers simplicity and concentration: the simpler and more sober the posture, the more beautiful it will be.”
I think when people use "realistic" to describe a game, the word they're really looking for is "grounded".
What i love about vf is how each of its characters is completely unique gameplan & mechanics wise
like take shun di, lei fei and vanessa for example, they all use stances, but shun's gameplan is much more about getting those drinks in, while lei fei is about flowing from one into the other while mixing you up to hell (kinda like lei wulong), while vanessa is about switching back and forth from aggression and defense
Hell, Vanessa is basically two characters in one, as her two stances completely change her moveset.
As a Tekken player, you got me at throwing being more than just a quick time event and reliable sidesteps.
its all it takes. Lots of the tekken 8 changes were to make it more like vf, like tracking throws and steps being better. That said neither are as good as VF still.
So glad to see people more interested in VF, trying to get my locals for more interested in it.
DOA has almost the same button layout, which is how they were able to incoperate VF characters in DOA.
the point of comparison is to compare it to a game that is current. DoA is so dead right now VF5 is more relevant than doa6
@rooflemonger This is true. DOA is Dead on Arrival now lol. God bless it. Praying for a comeback.
Well Namco did poach VF1 devs to make their first Tekken
Virtua Fighter is probably the most “grounded” fighting game in terms of its characters. Sure you have Dural whose a robot, but for the most part it’s just “muay thai guy” or “jeet kune do guy”
I hope VF6 continues that, although I do think Sega will try and tap into the craziness that Tekken has and add like “just a penguin” or something.
I hope that they keep the "grounded" aspect of the game and add a couple of rarely seen fighting styles like Turkish Oil Wrestling.
"Majima Everywhere" including in another series.
I'm guessing you never played Fighter Remix
All your videos have been successfully in getting me excited for VF’s comeback! I’ve never played VF before, but your content has me pumped for the next game.
My all time favourite fighter. Don't know why it doesn't get the love it deserves.
We demand more VF content!
I'm a DOA preacher at heart, but VF is the other 3D fighter I've been wanting to come back. Funnily enough the announcement came out the day after I hopped back on to learn a new character, almost like it was fated. Excited to see how VF6 turns out 😌
DOA7 needs a good story, tag mode, and less emphasis on DLC greed.
Yeah: 1.

Not while it has a block button, or at least until they allow movement while guarding

It’s literally just a sega version of tekken 😂
Dude it would be so nice to have a modern fighting game where I don’t feel like I’m getting scrubbed
Oh, sweet summer child
Then Dead or Alive for sure is the best for you
😂😂 Can't think of any fighting game like that
I love Virtua Fighter, my first exposure to it is Jacky and Akira in Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing for Wii and DS.
Shame when most people only know tekken when virtua fighter comes way before it. 90s was a time where 3D fighting went really hard and many other titles that was not well known , battle arena toshiden, last bronx
I'm super hyped for a new VF! Great video as always!
VF sidestep mechanics did it the right way, Tekken sidesteps are really frustrating indeed with how it might or might not sidestep depending on character used, framedata and which move you end up trying to sidestep that has different degrees of tracking.

i learned so much about virtua fighter what a crazy system

You are quickly becoming my fav VF appreciator im soooo hype for VF6 when it comes out in 2035
It's quite funny how VF is more similar in gameplay to SC than to Tekken
VF is the source from which all 3d fighting flows. SC certainly more alike in terms of general ease of use of evasion when it comes to movement
VF is closer in gameplay to both Soul Calibur and Dead or Alive due to the three button system. They all feel fluid too. Tekken all due respect for it feels janky by comparison to all 3.
More like DOA

It's interesting enough that I will almost certainly add it to my collection and give it a good try.
I can't wait to return to this series. Haven't gotten to play one of these since VF2. All the experience I have with modern VF is watching Tricky Eileen play VF5. BTW, politely requesting some kind of team up between you and her y'all are *literally* the only 2 people I know who are talking about this news.
we met at the red bull kumite earlier in the year, we have grand plans do not worry
Great video! I am more excited for VF6 now.
Small detail: I appreciate that you say "Ringed Out" instead of "Rung Out".
I sent your video into a local friend group discord so I can convince my friends to play VF5 with me because I'm so hype for a new game. I can't believe it's been so long since we had an entry.
VF is just pure fun fr. So glad it's coming back.
VF4: Evo was my fighting game awakening. Street Fighter took me away for a while but at the end of the day my heart beats for Virtua Fighter.
The game is so stress inducing but still feels very fair.

If anything, supers and ultimates are boring. They're a detraction from full control, and consist mostly of a short cutscene you activate, which damages the opponent.
I wish neither Tekken nor Soul Calibur had ever implemented those
Virtua Fighter is my childhood ❤
I had so much fun and excitment with VF... Can't wait another iteration ! but Damn VF5 still looks amazing for its age !
@@THR33_Dizzle Block buttons rule
@@THR33_Dizzle I disagree. The block button in 3D fighters is actually cool. Especially when it can be used to cancel certain actions or strings for the stance characters.
@@ThrashMetalWolf666 don't need a button to cancel movement, look at tekken, 😎
@@THR33_Dizzle You don't need to but can. The block button can also be use to cancel attacks, and strings into stances and said block button can be used to transition one stance into another.
I've been wanting a breakdown like this FOREVER to show my friends who never got into VF.
Thanks for this!!
I just recently started playing VF5 in the Lost Judgement SEGA arcade, literally looking up combos and bnbs for Akira and Goh. Great vid.
🙏
I CANNOT WAIT FOR A NEW VF6 , I do not want crazy comeback mechanics though
vf is too fast for any comeback mechanic to matter. What need is there for a comeback mechanic when most rounds are 20 seconds or less
@@RooflemongerThat, and the opponent can be defeated with two or three good combos.
Thank you for making this video. Long time Sega and VF fan here.
When I read the title I’m like “It’s like Tekken but HAHA like not at all.”
