I was fortunate to get to watch all 3 SB wins out of 4 years of the awesome Cowboys dynasty. That’s what I will always be thankful for, they always got it done in the SB, never had to see them lose one! This SB win they did get some breaks but going off several highlights that I’ve seen over the years, they had some bad breaks in one of their losses to the Steelers in the 70s, TE dropping a wide open TD catch where the ball hits him in the chest, that would’ve made the difference in them winning the game.
The thing is many Cowboys fans don't know about the dropped TD catch. I use things like that to show people it is not all on the QB. Players around them have to make plays. Even Aikman in one Super Bowl was like 0 TDS and 1 int, but they boasted about his 70% completion percentage. That doesn't happen in today's game. In the opening pass play, he throws behind Novacek and doesn't get crushed by the announcers that he has to throw a better pass. Instead, they tell you WHY he threw that pass behind him because it would have been intercepted. Many fans just don't know everything that goes into a play a decision on passing, running, coverage etc... I was fortunate to see them all. The heartbreak though was that Lynn Swan acrobatic catch. You can't cover a receiver any better on that play and he managed to come down with that pass. But back then we had a solid defense as well as a solid team overall. Playing football we use to pretend to be those players. If I was all time QB I was Staubach. Receiver I was Pearson, Richards, Hill or Billy Jo DuPree. Defense was Randy, Too Tall, etc... you take your pick. 😆 Fun times and some good football.
@@Fultonfalcons86 Thank you--I've been saying that for almost 30 frigging years! That Cowboys team would have probably won 3 or 4 Super Bowls in a row if that idiot didn't run off Jimmy Johnson. Im not a Cowboy fan by any stretch since I am a 49er fan, but this is a very underrated Super Bowl. Great teams are not always great. They are great when they have to be. Dallas made the plays when they had to.
The Cowboys faced a lot of adversity during the 1995 season and struggled at times, but they were able to put it all together at the right time and claim their 5th Super Bowl title.
Dallas bought this super bowl. Their last super bowl btw. Jerry Jones paid both Art Rooney and Bill Cowher money to have Neil O'Donnell intellinnaly throw both interceptions to the same guy in the same area with no receivers in the area.

I’m a Cowboy’s fan. Always have been. The first Super Bowl I remember seeing was 1975 that was won by the Steelers. I was a kid but that’s how long I’ve been watching football. I’ve seen a lot in that time and the truth is, I have nothing but respect for the Steelers Franchise, their fans and their city. They are a classy organization with some amazing players in their history. After this Dallas team ended, I watched Pittsburgh build their own powerhouse org in the post Bradshaw dynasty with Big Ben. I almost couldn’t help but be happy for Steelers fans because I respect them all so much and because I had been able to enjoy this Dallas team so much in the post Staubach era. The old Landry Cowboys were the team of my youth, but this (and the earlier 93, 94 Cowboys) were the team of my adulthood and I consider them to be among one of our very best teams. Our respective teams have had two dynasties, and that makes us pretty unique. Plus our ability to meet in the Super Bowl against each other makes us sort of “linked” together throughout history because of our great competitions against each other. For this Super Bowl, it was just a matter of a good football team not quite matching up with a great football team. Pittsburgh was plenty game and they played as well as they could (minus the obvious 2 or 3 big mistakes) but realistically, they played a top level Super Bowl game against a phenomenal collection of talent and they nearly pulled it off. I agree with you that these two teams have written a lot of history together….
Hated the Steelers in the 70's when we had great teams and should have swept them. They were lucky because the Raiders should have been playing if not for that Franco Harris miracle crap
This was the sweetest of Super Bowl moments, not just for the season, but for the heartbreak i suffered during SB XIV as a ten yr. old.Even sweeter was my boss(diehard Steelers and fellow GulfWar vet)giving me a congratulatory bottle of bubbly and that night off.PRICELESS.

Nah, the only things O'Donnell threw were 2 horrible interceptions. On both plays the Cowboys blitzed, the receiver didn't change his route and O'Donnell panicked. Cowboys defense won the game.
Heartbreaking loss as a Steelers fan. All the 'what ifs' after this one. Looking back though, Steelers could have won, but Dallas had a HOF quarterback and we had a good quarterback . Dallas deserved this win. Haley coming back to play the game was a huge factor I think. He was a force.

In the spirit of educating the uninformed, over half (e.g., 27 players) of the 1995 Cowboys roster never played a down for Jimmy Johnson. This included 2 players (e.g., Deion Sanders and Larry Allen) that were the best to ever play their positions. This 3rd Lombardi Trophy in 4 years was a classic case of links in a chain. The Landry Era supplied Johnson with Michael Irvin, Mark Tuinei, Nate Newton, Jim Jeffcoat, Ken Norton, and Bill Bates. Johnson drafted the core of this juggernaut, and Jerry Jones then added Sanders, Allen, Ray Donaldson, Derek Kennard, Scott Case, and Chris Boniol to the mix. What is remarkable about the 1992-1995 Cowboys is that despite changing personnel and 2 head coaches, they were able to field the most DOMINANT dynasty of the Super Bowl Era. In that 4 year period, the Cowboys were 10-1 in the post-season, they won all 10 games by double-digits, and they scored 27 or more points in all 11 playoff contests.
The Cowboys were not the most dominant dynasty of the Super Bowl era. 70s Steelers, 80s 49ers, and the 2000s Patriots have more titles and lasted longer. 70s Steelers have more hall of famers as well.
Jose Mata Yeah, Jason Garrett will probably be remembered as the most underachieving Cowboys coach in history. All that talent, several winning seasons, yet never reached the Super Bowl.
@@jhbluestar Hell yeah man. I really hope Dak starts playing MVP level again like the first 8 games and Zeke gets healthy come Playoff time. Lol I still cringe when I hear the name Neil O’Donald...guy literally threw the Super Bowl away. Was a QB who would just fall down if any pressure was near him.
What happened on that last interception is the receiver was supposed to cut inside as the hot read when the blitz was coming. He didn't read the blitz and ran his regular route. Since these throws are timing routes, there was nothing for O'Donnell to do but throw the ball where the receiver should have been. Brown anticipated the hot read so he was there waiting on the pass when it came.
@@billdubya9626 I was so disappointed I was rooting like crazy for the Pittsburgh Steelers. I thought it was a miscommunication the first time but how can that happen twice? Neil O’Donnell was terrible.

Yes, it has changed a lot and not necessarily for the better. The physicality is gone from the game now as a person who started watching football in the 1990s that is hard for me to accept.
@@wheelchairmanjon it can be frustrating, but its also depressing to see some of the greats lose their mental facilities like boxers. Its a fine line to walk tbh. My biggest gripe is that the QB gets so much more protection than other players, but I do think some of the rules for safety are warranted.
As a (very young) Steelers fan at the time, this was the first time I ever saw "my team" in the big game. So to see them rally in the 2nd half, come back from behind, and BLOW IT ALL on an errant pass and just a pathetic drive at the very end...well, it was heartbreaking. I think they were just OUT OF GAS at that point, they had been bested by the Cowboys defense. And who can deny that the Triplets were a force of nature. Aikman, Irvin and Emmitt Smith were a dangerous combination. But you cant help but wonder, if Hastings catches that pass (that hits him right in the hands) at 1:48:30, its potentially first down and a new drive to at least tie the game with a field goal, (Norm Johnson was money back then, as solid a kicker as we would see until Jeff Reed)... but more importantly, it PREVENTS the damn SECOND interception Nerd O'Donnell gently tosses to Larry Brown on the very next play. 😣😣 ((Oh but he wasn't done, his hail Mary toss at the end was intercepted too)) This was a case of a pretty good team meets a freakin great team and the great team won. Thankfully, I would grow into my 20s to see the Steelers become dominant and have their own "dynasty" just 10 years later, 3 SB appearances and 2 wins with an actual good QB from 2005-2011. And I think with the way this year is shaping up, everyone in Pittsburgh misses the "Big Ben years" by now.
As many times I watched this game even the original I never noticed the comerottery of the players each team helping each other up after a play much respect to all the players
A lot of HOFers on both sides of the ball in this one, boys. Woodson, Greene, Aikman, Novacek, Irvin, Deion, Emmitt, Allen, Moose and more. Absolutely insane.
Steelers put up one hell of a fight and caught the Cowboys having a down day, but Dallas was head and shoulders the superior team. Between 1991 and ‘97 they played each other four times and the Cowboys won each time, including Super Bowl XXX, in each contest the Steelers lost by double digits.
head and shoulders my ass .. they had them right where they wanted them .. problem was they didn't have a proper qb .. just happens to be the most important player on the team smh

Better copy than the one I had. Thx Bart! You're the best! If you ever find the 1993 Super Bowl 28 (the second SB between the Boys & the Bills), I would be greatly grateful. I know it's an awful game but still it's missing from all the SBs I downloaded beside SB 16 (I have some parts from that) & 2 (which, from what I understood, is nowhere to be found). The copies I found from SB 5 are partial (for some reason, the video is out for a long while), which is sad cause It was a great game.

Same! I remember this SB the most since I was only 2 years old during the '92 season. I wish I could've seen more success had Jimmy Johnson stayed. I highly doubt I'll see another Cowboys SB win anytime soon...
Jerry Jones, Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer were all at the University of Arkansas in the early 60's. The first two as players and Switzer as a running backs coach. Its no surprise Jerry picked who he did at different times, and its no surprise there was friction, they were teammates in college, peers.

My father and I were at this Super Bowl. We had season tickets and we were shocked at how lousy our seats were. We sat under the overhang and I could never really see the field. I’m just that short lol it was still a great experience to be there though.
My wife went into labor early that morning and gave birth to my beautiful daughter about 3hrs before kickoff. Knowing how big a Cowboys fan I am she told me to go and watch the Super Bowl. I went home and watched the game, Cowboys won and as soon as the game was over I went back to the hospital for the night. It was a PERFECT day. Had a sweet little baby girl and win the Super Bowl. Finally got some revenge on Pittsburgh for Super Bowls 10 & 13.
The last Cowboys dynasty year. Fond memories. There will never be another Dallas Cowboys dynasty quite like this one in this age of crazy free agency and too many dollar signs spinning around in players heads.
Most football writers AND fans have no idea that 26 players on the 53 man roster of the 1995 Dallas Cowboys NEVER played a down for Jimmy Johnson. This included two players (e.g., Deion Sanders, Larry Allen) who may have been the best to ever play their positions. This team was not as deep as the 1992 and 1993 squads, but from Week 1 to Thanksgiving, the 1995 Cowboys may have had the best starting 22 in NFL history.
Thank you, thank you and again thank you for letting me see my team that I missed! Sanders, Smith, Aikman etc. I had the t-shirt with the signatures and I really wish it didn't disappear even though was printed
I'm a dallas fan and I don't blame either interception on O'Donnell. Both times dallas blitzed the receiver never changed his route. That should of been a CURL or a slant pattern
The second one could be blamed on the receiver, but the fault still lies on O'Donnell for throwing the ball before seeing the receiver adjust his route
Neil O’Donnell was a great Quarterback(Said,no one ever)Every throw was high, and the receivers made great catches all day. But his favorite receiver Larry Brown, was wide open all day.🤦🏻♂️
@Sean Boyce Sean if you read his comment. He said (no one ever) about Neil being great. I live in Pittsburgh and he had no business being a starting Qb let alone being a starting Qb in the super bowl. It was all Pittsburgh's D and I suppose coaching as well for them being in the super bowl.
Oh please...He certainly wasn't great, but he sure as hell was solid in '95. Football Outsiders gives him a DYAR and DVOA both within the top 15 in the entire NFL that year. He was a HUGE reason the Steelers even made it to the Super Bowl. I was PAINED as much as ANY Steeler fan on the planet with this game, but people need to keep things in friggin' perspective. He had a bad game, but he sure as hell wasn't shitty overall.
The numbers clearly demonstrate that from 1992-1995, the Dallas Cowboys were the most dominant dynasty in NFL history. The Cowboys were 49-15 in the regular season, 10-1 in the post-season, they appeared in 4 consecutive NFC Championship Games, and they were the first team to win 3 Super Bowls in 4 years. In 11 playoff games, they never scored less than 27 points, and all of their 10 playoff victories were by double digits. In their 3 Super Bowl wins, the Cowboys outscored their opponents by 62 points. To put those numbers in perspective, the 2001-2004 Patriots didn't even make the playoffs in 2002, and they won 3 Super Bowls in 4 years by a COMBINED 9 points.
too bad jerry jones put a stick of dynamite in the middle of it when the team was on top and was young and looked like they would be on top for quite a while. way to go jerry!!!!!!!!!!
1995 cowboys were more carried by their defense than their offense, especially that elite secondary defense. Deion Sanders and Darren Woodson had a great season.
The first Super Bowl I remember watching when I was five years old I was rooting like crazy for the Pittsburgh Steelers, but thanks to Neil. O’Donald Super Bowl championship did not materialize.
The first pick was O'Donnell's fault, but in the second and most critical pick Andre Hastings ran the wrong way on his route. O'Donnell was very shaky in this game though. Weird Super Bowl for me: I loved these Cowboys (not a bandwagon fan though: they were young, I was young in football, I thought it was a team of players I thought I could grow up with. The results were mostly satisfying) but after the first three drives, they just hung on for dear life. At the time, it didn't feel like a win, but an escape. Since the Cowboys haven't won since, I feel better about this game now then I did then (I look at it as the Cowboys doing just enough, especially early, to pull out the win).
It still pisses me off to think about the Cowher era IF we actually had a good QB before Ben. Cowher still won more games from 1992-2007 than any other active coach, even with O'Donnell, Kordell, Tomczak. With a truly good QB in that era, Pittsburgh would have 8 titles instead of 6 I think.
@@caomhan84 Yeah, I give Cowher a pass when it comes to the playoffs mostly due to the fact that the majority of his teams (with the exception of 1998 & 2003) played above expectations; but in the big spots, when the Steelers needed a QB to make it happen for them, things usually went the other way (with the exception of Neil O'Donnell in the 1995 AFC Championship game and Tommy Maddox's comeback against the Browns in the 2002 Wild Card Game).
He was bought off and my Mother could have caught those 2 passes. Plus Mr. Brown was MVP of that super bowl and his career just fell apart the following year at the raiders.
January 28th, 1996 was the last time that the Dallas Cowboys hoisted the Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl victory. It was their third in four years, an established dynasty, and a great bit of revenge over the hated Pittsburgh Steelers.
Steelers fan here. I still have the whole game on VHS. Pittsburgh had their chances but three bad breaks led to their undoing (obviously two in the second half) but sometimes that's how it goes. For 12 years this was the highest watched Super Bowl of all time. Glad it came against a respected rival going back to Super Bowls X and XIII. Go Steelers always!
This was the hardest super bowl i ever watched im from PA and steelers is a way of life but my nick name was cowboy and i loved the cowboys back then and i cheered both as a 8 year old kid 😂😂😂
You guys got lucky you got that interception cuz we had taken all the momentum back in that game with 6 minutes and change left to go the triplets we're neutralized but O'Donnell confused Larry Brown for a Steeler receiver
I was watching this game in the Dominican Republic and the thought came to my mind. Enjoy this Super Bowl cause it will be a long time till Dallas is back to this level. More than 20 years later it is so true.
I loved in how America's game that Moose said that his position coach said that the talent they had overcame the coaching. Imagine if they had a good coach in Jimmy. If both of the men in Jerry and Jimmy set aside their egos. I know for one thing the Cowboys would not have had 3 turnovers in the 94 NFC championship game in 3 straight possessions and been down 21-0 if Jimmy were coaching that game against the 49ers. In the end, the Cowboys were in huge trouble going into the 1996 season. Jay Novacek retired after the Super Bowl. Michael Irvin got busted for cocaine possession and missed the first 3 games of the season. Charles Haley hurt his back and he "retired" early on in the 96 season. The offense just ran out of steam in the 96 season. It was Green Bay's turn and for those two seasons they were the best in the NFC with Brett Favre just on fire.
This was sweet revenge for the Cowboys franchise. Losing two heartbreaking Super Bowls to Pittsburgh by a total of 8 points...each game was one that Dallas could have won if only a break or two had gone their way. In this game, the Steeler defense outplayed Dallas’ offense in the second half but it was Dallas that was on the receiving end of the breaks thanks to Pittsburgh QB O’Donnell.
1:46:24 oh wow .. I remember this play .. the way he was stumbling and falling backwards it was like some symbolism .. as if dallas was stumbling the game away but in the end they were saved by neil o'donnell lol

Let me tell you something you got lucky O'Donnell through that pass cuz by the fourth quarter the Steeler defense had worn down the Cowboys offensive line
Ivan Santa-Maria legit possibility they win every Super Bowl from 92-96. They were close in 94 and they would’ve ran through everyone in 96. They beat GB, NE, and SF that regular season. Maybe Irvin doesn’t get suspended and they probably would still been a 12-4 or 13-3 team without them. This would make them a top seed where they get a bye and home field.
@@derrickvandevelde2066 I doubt Dallas would have beat the 49ers in 1994 even if Jimmy stayed. Also, Packers were also practically unbeatable in 1996 so Cowboys wouldn't have beat them with Jimmy either.
Tony Tolbert and Chad Hennings get no love. Tolbert especially shined in 96'. To bad his knee issues ended his career early we really needed a pass rusher for 97 and 98. Greg Ellis had a great year in 99' until he broke his leg.

Johnson was a great coach, but so was Switzer - something many tend to overlook. In the brief time Switzer was the Cowboy's head man, he won 5 playoff games and one Super Bowl (with just a slight break he could've won two). Since he got fired? Dallas has won zero Super Bowls and a grand total of THREE playoff games - in 22 years! I've heard Dallas Cowboy people say they wish they could have either Johnson OR Switzer back. @klass_1221 you're literally 76ers fan 😂😂😂
Same here but Jerry made one of the biggest mistakes in football history by letting Jimmy go because of his ignorant ego
Fun times and some good football.

Neil O’Donnell was the best player for the Cowboys that night.
Interesting
You forgot Jerry Jones also traded for Haley in 92 and he was a key factor in winning the 3 Super bowls.

I was 7 years old and watched it on a 32 inch RCA television at a apartment in Cleburne Texas.

I still cry at this. Cower's on side kick call was legendary. But Neil "where is Larry Brown" O'Donnell blew it.
they just put to much on O'Donnell they should have kept trying to run it at that stage in the game dallas defense was getting tired.

I was watching this game in the Dominican Republic and the thought came to my mind. Enjoy this Super Bowl cause it will be a long time till Dallas is back to this level. More than 20 years later it is so true.
Wow
The curse of videovegas
Impresionante equipo Cowboys y la victoria q todos los Vaqueros esperábamos go Dallas 🤘🏉
Eran un equipo increíble en ese entonces. Difícil de creer que han pasado más de 25 años desde que ganaron un Super Bowl.
Watched this game while in Basic Training for the Army,Ft.Sill, Oklahoma.
God today's game looks so different. There would be a flag on every play for roughness.
Right
And a social media reference or advertisement every 5 minutes.. smh.
Refs let 'em play.
NFL referees should listen to MLB promo "Just ley the kids play"
Let instead ley, sorry
Thank you for this. This was first Superbowl I ever saw in life I was only 5 years old I don't remember if I understood everything going on but I remember saying I like the team in white they're the good guys.
Indeed they were.
3rd time was the charm for the Cowboys facing the Steelers
(Even if the players in X and XIII were different than the ones in XXX).
Let me tell you something you got lucky O'Donnell through that pass cuz by the fourth quarter the Steeler defense had worn down the Cowboys offensive line
@@ivansanta-maria1328 Shit, the whole league was lucky Johnson left. Dallas would probably have 7 Lombardis had he stayed.
@@derrickvandevelde2066 yeah that was a real shame for them and their fans there's no doubt they would have won at least four in the 90s
That onside kick was a great call, and an AMAZING KICK!!!
DIAZ52 *onside
@@jiveassturkey8849 it's a typo, you Jive Ass Turkey! 🤣😅🤣😅🤣😅🥰😅🤣🙂👍
Find the 30 minute highlight film of this game and watch Cowher call it on the sideline. Then watch his reaction when they recover it. Priceless!!
Tony Tolbert. The unsung hero of that Dallas defense.
Great.
Tony Tolbert and Chad Hennings get no love. Tolbert especially shined in 96'. To bad his knee issues ended his career early we really needed a pass rusher for 97 and 98.
Greg Ellis had a great year in 99' until he broke his leg.
This superbowl was on my birthday. Last time Dallas won. The kid I sat next to in class was as Steelers fan.
I was in 8th grade this Super Bowl! Right before I started playing High School 🏈.
Who could even imagine we were watching the last Vince Lombardi in hands of a Cowboys QB in a long time.
A legendary sporting event for the ages.
PIN THIS - I didn't write this but its the FACTS!!!
Watch the Steelers play at 1:55:09. This play occurs after the 2nd interception and the Cowboys going up 27-17. This is a completion to Corey Holiday who replaced Ernie Mills who was knocked out of the game by Larry Brown earlier in the 4th quarter. Compare this play to the 2nd interception by Larry Brown (at 1:49:08). It is the exact same play call by Pittsburgh. Corey Holiday (the replacement) RAN THE WRONG ROUTE on the interception play but got it right on the next series (at 1:55:09). There was no fix and nobody paying off O'Donnell.
I love America and I love my Dallas Cowboys Let's go boys
Watching in memory of Larry Allen. A true Champion. An everlasting legacy.
As a Steelers fan, I knew we weren't going to win this Super Bowl. O'Donnell just didn't have that greatness in him to take them all the way.
Then went to kordell known as slash
@@ericpackers1700 he wasnt good either.
O'Donnell didn't drop all those passes...
Anybody know how many Steeler drops there were?
I had been Waiting for this Super Bowl for 18 yrs, like the 93 NFC Championship in 1993, I knew UT would happen.
Jimmy Johnson should have gotten a ring for this game. If he would have stayed they would've celebrated four in a row.
AMEN TO THAT!!!!! 👍
@@fredwrinkle Too many injuries to overcome. Road game. Young & Co. in zone.
Both were miles ahead of anything they've had since. Johnson was the best, but Switzer wasn't far behind him.
@@miltonsmith974 Jerry Jones victim of superego. Jordan wanted to prove he could win a ring w/o Pippen. Pippen badly wanted to show the world he could bring it home w/o Jordan. Both Koby & Shaq desperately wanted to prove to themselves & the world one could do it alone. It's the second worse Achilles heel next to not knowing it's time to retire. Maybe now Jones will learn what Steinbrenner realized: it's a team effort & each has a specific task. The owner pays the bills. The coach leads his men to the Promised Land. The GM evaluates & manages operations. Do as Eddie DeBartolo w/Niners did--"stayed in his lane." 🇺🇸
@@miltonsmith974 he was overlooked because he was a shitty coach for the Cowboys. He absolutely wasted the talent Jimmy brought to that team. Switzer was a monster of a coach at OU, but when Jerry called he didn't give a shit anymore. That superbowl he won was Jimmy's team. You're barking up the wrong tree with that Switzer bullshit. Have a good night.
I don’t know the touchdowns for Dallas and Pittsburgh.
This last INT was crucial...Steelers had their momentum and then that...
I was 1 n 1/2 when he won our last Super Bowl . (XXX)
Dallas says thank you Neil O'Donnell, Larry Brown was Wide Open!
The fix was in
@@chrissams6230 Sore loser
These Cowboys didn't have to go against late game momentum in their previous titles. Like the champions there are, they held just long enough to bury their opponent.
Few would have thought at the time that 24 years later the cowboys never made it back to a championship game let alone a superbowl.
The cowboys are going to make a Big COMEBACK AN WHEN IT HAPPENS IT'S GOING TO BE AMAZING
I agree: it used to be that the title drought from 1978-1991 was a long time, yet today that might that looks like a short shave compared to what's ongoing. What's more, the Cowboys haven't even qualified for an NFC Championship Game; the closest they've come was when Dez Bryant's catch was denied in January 2015 against the Packers.
@@gluserty
The cowboys will be back in the super bowl sooner rather than later. The cowboys just need the right coaching staff to LEED THEM THERE
@@annabennett6622 Yeah, maybe it will be Mike McCarthy; I know he has some critics, but I thought he did a good job with the Packers overall.
@@gluserty
I Agree there he did do a good job with the green bay packers NOW LET'S SEE IF HE CAN GET THE COWBOYS BACK IN THE GAME AND WIN
I was 4 days old when this game happened
